There were many who came before her but she was certainly the one who, more than anyone else, benefited from having the most powerful gentlemen in the industry producing her and forcing her presence unto us for years and years.

And like sexuality, she also paved the way to talk openly about other subjects related to the human condition long-since considered taboo: from rape, to teen pregnancy, to alternate faiths/religions, to AIDS, to homophobia, to sexism, to racism, and everything in between. And on such a mainstream platform with such a mainstream audience, no less.

She didn't even start working with "powerful" men until well into her career. She mostly worked with under-the-radar producers who HELPED her craft her sound, NOT create it for her. Of course, those are clear facts to those with ears, brains, and who were actually ALIVE back then to witness it all; not snivelling little Zoomer babies who know nothing of the world outside of what TikTok tells them.

In the beginning you say that this song is from the same album as "justify my Love" this is in fact a whole album dedicated to the media´s backlash of justify my love. Where Madonna is acussed of going to far and just releasing suff for mere shock value. The interviews of this era are specially interesting as she states her ground and questioning the role of media in art. She says that how come media can show violence and hate openly but a song about sexual liberation from a woman's point of view is just unthinkable. This was also during the HIV crisis and abstination as a solution. Erotica is a F you to the media and a way to say "If you tought justify my love was extreme, you know nothing" and a way to play around the sex taboo specially gay sex.
You made me laugh about ten times on this one 😂 btw, I think Madonna was playing a character here, not herself. She was trying to make the distinction between fantasy and reality and demystify it all but I think the message was a bit clouded and frightening to the general public.

Actually the album was the lowest point in her career in terms of sales. Her career was already fading and Grunge had taken over the world.
No one was talking about Madonna but everyone was crazy for Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. An entire new chapter had taken off and there was no room for the PoP $tardoM product that Madonna represented.
This is also why after the album _Erotica_ she had to change direction and began a series of collaborations with some of the big names of the '90s, from Bjork to Massive Attack and all the rest.
