    It was an awesome decade to be young in the UK, so many great Indie/rock/alt bands and then the whole clubbing/rave scene, it was incredible really, I was an 80's Indie kid coming into the decade and it took a bit of arm twisting from my friends to get me into the clubbing scene, but when bands like The Prodigy came along I think even the most hardened rock kids started getting into the clubbing scene too, I even ended up being a podium dancer for a while! 🤣There was something for everyone, this video just concentrates on the US mainstream acts of the day though, which of course there's nothing wrong with, it just skips a lot out.

    I believe that you would have like 90's eurodance genre. It was a HUGE thing in the mid/late 90's in Europe, when I lived my teenage years. There were few of them on the list, such as "Barbie Girl" by a Danish group "Aqua"and "Cotton Eye Joe" by Swedish eurodance group called "Rednex". Oh, Ace of Base could be considered also into that genre, being the very first ones pop up into the charts.

    Yes, "Killing Me Softly with His Song" was originally from the 1970s, most notably by Roberta Flack.
    "Candle in the Wind" really stands out here as would seem so out of place if you're too young to remember Princess Diana's funeral.

      I agree with you about the 90's music. I didn't think much of the stuff in the late 90s. In 1991 I was 18 (19 in December) and 2 weeks before Freddie Mercury died I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis so not a great year. My first symptom was losing my vision in the left eye in May. The vision did eventually return but it was not perfect.

    The version of Toni Braxton - Un-Break My Heart was the original, but you seem to like dance music and there was a dance mix version of this song that had everyone on the dance floor dancing all the time back then. It was Toni Braxton - Un-Break My Heart (Soul Hex Anthem Vocal). Here is a link to it on UA-cam and I'm not asking for a reaction. This is for your own enjoyment. It is almost 10 minutes long which was about average length of club mixes back when music was good: ua-cam.com/video/L4-gfXk5oKA/v-deo.html

      I agree with him about both Madonna and Whitney over Mariah. I still like Some of Madonna's music but it's her mid 80's stuff I like best. I like Marriah's earlier music but for me her whistle note stuff is overdone. If she used that less Of probably appreciate it more. I do like her original Christmas album though. Please remember I'm just sharing my opinion as is he. It may not be the majority opinion but having a different opinion is allowed.

    Hey Connor, love watching you getting down to these music reactions, we get to see the fun side of you. Not a huge fan of the 90's music, especially those annoying R & B groups we were subjected to, it felt a lot like torture. Their whole look and over the top facial expressions at times read like they were straining themselves on the toilet!! Despite that there are a handful of good & memorable songs. Couldn't stand those talentless Spice Girls or that God awful All Saints, but each to their own. You should consider making a separate channel for music reactions. At least you can react to the songs from start to finish instead of these compilations where you just get a few seconds, hardly enough time to get a taste of a song.. Really enjoy these music reactions Connor....keep them coming buddy, Lots of Love, have a Great Weekend!!....PS. You should consider doing a reaction to the iconic Queen Live Aid Performance, tons of other reactors have done so, would love to see that, I'm sure loads of others would too. Take Care.

But it might be the biggest confused clusterfudge - obvious remnants of the 80's, ballads, soft rock, rap, hip hop, electro-dance, europop, movie soundtracks....Boybands and girlbands were also a big part of it so I'm surprised there was only 1 Spice Girls, no Take That. Also no Oasis or Blur, who were in a rivalry for the Britpop crown.

    Judging them out of context 3 decades later is kinda unfair. Madonna today is overrated, I agree, but back then we had seen no one like it. Same with Snap or the mix of cartoon and real person in a video. It was the decade of the power ballads, constant battle between Whitney, Mariah and Celine. At school we'd have heated arguments about who was better ;P same discussion about Prince or Michael Jackson. You had to be there. Late ninety-nine the media had convinced us we were all gonna die in the new millenium so we were in a party mood☺ you'll see in 3 decades when they discus todays music how weird it feels ☺ this was a nice throwback. Wonder if this was European or American...

    • @140cabins
      @140cabins 7 місяців тому

      Even if it was UK-only I don't think there would be much Britpop in it. Robson & Jerome's version of Unchained Melody should really be the top song for both May and June 1995 but the no-repeats rule would probably allow Pulp's Common People to take the title for June. I think that's the only Britpop song that would make it. (Well, unless you count Three Lions. That would certainly be in the list.)

      @Stevenc1984 7 місяців тому

      @@140cabins I was mainly thinking of Oasis or Blur with maybe Pulp or The Verve making an appearance. I guess it depends if it's based on singles sold (most likely) or radio plays etc.

    For me, most of the 90s is "meh" and overall this countdown is a noticeable step down in quality from the previous two decades with a lot of bland so-called R&B boy/girl bands, lame hiphop (Vanilla Ice, Snow, Salt n Pepa, Kriss Kross) and what I call the screamer/warbler singers (Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston), none of whom really do it for me. But I'm with you on tracks like "Genie In A Bottle", "Tubthumping", Cher's "Believe", "Gangsta's Paradise" and, against my better judgement, "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" being iconic among the songs of that decade!
    Other highlights from that playlist for me include 4 Non Blondes, Scorpions and of course that iconic Bryan Adams song from Robin Hood that everyone hates cos it was at the top of the chart in the UK for a million years! 😆 (Actually 16 weeks, but it's still holds the record for longest time as a Number 1 of all time) I also have a soft spot for All Saints' "Never Ever" even though it is in that genre of fairly bland pseudo-R&B that I mentioned earlier.
    I'm surprised by a few omissions but I think this list is more US-centred and some artists and songs were probably more successful here in the UK than over here.
    A UK list would probably include: Maria McKee "Show Me Heaven", Chesney Hawkes' "The One And Only", U2's "The Fly", Shakespears Sister's "Stay", The KLF, The Shamen's "Ebeneezer Goode", The Bluebells' "Young At Heart", Gabrielle's "Dreams", D:Ream "Things Can Only Get Better", Robbie Williams, Blur and Oasis.
    On the plus side, there's no Take That, Boyzone, Westlife, Steps or Robson & Jerome either, as they didn't do as much in the US as in the UK, so that's a mercy! 🤣

      You definitely sound like a yt person based on your "tastes" and who you prefer. lol R&B music in the 90s was GREAT!!! And I don't want to see any UK list. I don't care what anybody says, those songs are horrible!!! That's why most of them didn't hit in the U.S.
