It's what I'm here for.
I was lucky enough to talk to Zach for a minute or 2 at Cleetus and Cars Houston last year. Such a cool and humble guy. Love seeing him more and more on the channel. He deserves it
Garrett this is info you need. I worked on and maintained a Rip Chair 3.0 for a number of years, (its a wheelchair tank) Howe and Howe came down for the delivery and initial set up. Great bunch of guys! Their stuff is very well built, but very specialty and unique in setup, mill spec switch gear and unique one off computer controller hardware and software controllers. You need to call and talk to Daniel Rowe from H&H about possible software/programing upgrades. The speed limiter is a probably a controller limitation set in the accelerator switch programming limits, like line voltage #'s being sent from the pedal potentiometer. These can be changed. I had to reprogram a Hall effect sensor for a joystick repair on the Rip Chair. Daniel sent me the controller program (HGConfig-V1001-Executable) on a jump drive and a usb dongle to connect my mac to the RipChair. You NEED to have this stuff to run a H&H vehicle long term, and for future maintenance!
I checked that chair out, so cool!

Everytime ol' Cleeter does a shakedown run on Ripsaw or any other car in the fleet to expose their weak points, Zach, Ty, George, Jimmy, Sam and crew come to resolve the issue. That's true mechanical engineering! What a fantastic team this has become!
Garret suncoast makes a 6 speed kit for your tank, it’s a strong engagement with the C2 and C4 clutches, the C3 is the weak one. So you will get an extra 350 rpm or maybe 10-15mph or so
Hopefully cleetus see's this

So cool doing dirt drags with a tank. You really need to set up that field as a dirt drag track, so you can do tractor, 4x4, Tank, and other types of dirt drag racing on it. It would be so cool to get people excited about different types of dirt racing again. Maybe even a dirt oval for sprint cars and dirt bikes. Even as Pay per View only, it would be cool.
Can't believe Cleeter is part owner of a High Perf. brake company and they put Wilwood Calipers back on there. I see an upgrade coming.
Do they make calipers for road racing too? You need something that can sustain the constant high Temps. Not saying tbm can't just genuinely curious if they offer road racing. Drag brakes are light but you need those heavy iron rotors for sustained high heat applications
Aren't the TBM brakes manual as in not boost assisted? That would be a MFer on a tank I would imagine.
As much as tbm cost they’d bankrupt the company putting them on lol
I hope the Ripsaw gets fixed and stays fixed so you can throw spanners on Leroy, the people's champ
Excited to take the ripsaw for a rip at a future Freedom Factory event!
Military Tank engine repair is super easy, aside from using a 1" drive socket set. There are quick disconnects for the electrical and pluming, and then just the mounting bolts. The engine and trans get pulled with a crane, and is brought to the engine shop for repair. It is replaced as a unit. One engine, one tank. The entire tank is super thick steel. The most important thing on a military tank is track maintenance. Again, with a 1" drive socket set, a sledge hammer and a tank bar. All the track bolts need to be checked every day. If one is loose it could throw the track. Putting the track back on can take 3 to 7 days.

I agree! I was thinking the same thing
No.. no they aren't lol
Hell yes they are you can get 300+hp out of them lol
@@johnbean2596 I get it. But for an equal amount of money you can get a factory turbocharged solid iron block heated leather seat all wheel drive fancy looking car.. and a tune on tiny oem turbo will get you to 300 hp... as the bottom. Super cheap builds will net you 400+ reliable. Little more money for rods/bottom end and a bigger spooly Boi and you can easily pass that x2 if you wanted to dump coin. The cobalt. (No hate) is a cheaply manufactured cheaply engineered platform that will shit itself into 2 separate pieces when you pass that 300 crank mark lol. For this show. It's a perfect car and I love it. For anyone looking to break into cheap and worthwhile car modifications.. a cobalt ss is uh... not where you should start lol
SS would be a cool upgrade, but id vote for a cheap dodge neon, or an SRT 4 if he can find one. i have raced against a couple of those guys on the highway and they gapped the fuck out of the mustang i used to drive, you can make a nutty sleeper. even a toyota celica would be fun. those things are also insane if you build them right. put some big brakes, some suspension parts and a turbo and your in buisness.
You should consider safety wiring the bolts for the brakes
Shit safety wire everything. I have to safety wire bolts on my motorcycle before going on the track so why not with something that bangs around like that.

Loving the Ripsaw content so far, I was able to be a driver for the Abrams tank when I served in the Army in 2013, and it’s really interesting seeing the contrast of the mechanics of the Ripsaw to the Abrams, and watching you guys have a blast tearing it up reminded me of how I felt driving the Abrams, it’s the most badass feeling ever and I’m so stoked to see what else you can get into with the Ripsaw! 🤘🤘
Guys.....running a solid lifter cam in an all aluminum engine is always going to be needing you to adjust the valves because the pushrods are steel and they don't expand as much as the block and heads. So if you set lash cold...as you should...it'll increase a LOT when the motor warms up and things will start to get pretty noisy. Adjusting them hot like Dr Bend-em-all was doing is really kind of dumb...because when the motor cools back down the valves will be held open...as you discovered. Hard to believe that you didn't talk to Steve Morris about how he runs the solids on his motors.
Why you are even messing with solid lifters on this motor is beyond me. There are hydraulics that will do what you need just fine. Set them hot with '0' preload then when the motor cools down the lifters will accommodate the contraction and it'll run like normal. I know you guys are young and still learning...please take this as a learning experience and think about what I just typed...it'll help you. Or ignore it and continue to thrash and be frustrated...makes for more entertaining video seeing you fail than succeed I guess.
Yeah, not sure why they switched it up on this. Know plenty of guys over 2kHP with hydraulics.
Things that happen when you listen to Texas speed.
Wouldn't the valves get looser when cold if you set them hot?
@@Rockymountain11 no because as the engine cools everything contracts and since aluminum (the block and heads) expands and contracts more and more quickly than steel (the lifters and push rods) it will make the problem worse.
@@jeremymann8930 could a solution be to get aluminum lifter/pushrods?

16:15 I'm telling you, the front left wheel of that Cobalt is about to come off with the lower control arm. If you're lined up with a tank on your left side and that lets go at 70mph, that little Cobalt will swerve hard into the path of that tank and squish right under it with Georgie trapped inside. I get that the dangerous stuff is great content, but there are hidden dangers happening here that I think you guys might not be seeing. @@douglasm3310 there you go, apologies
Doesn't need a Steve Morrison engine to get into the 6s or bigger tires. Sure they would help to get into the 5's but what he has is more then capable of getting a 6 already.
@@Loki_Trickster why would Cleet fuck around. He has the budget to go faster.
@@RustyRaine1 Because he is not using what he has to its full potential yet. That engine is capable of running mid 6's. And radial cars are more then capable of that. You mentioned that this is the first generation of Ripsaw. Have some of these issue been improved in Gen 2 and can you take parts/ideas from later models?
Curious about Mullets engine…obviously zero expense spared when it was built but the comment “probably just needs better valves” was made. Can someone elaborate? It would make sense that the motor was built for high power and the cheap valves weren’t used. Thanks! 🇺🇸🇺🇸
"See if we can get some better valvetrain in there" probably just means not broken ones.
@@TurtlDrip could be for sure! My knowledge with anything like that is about zero beyond the basic fundamentals of what things do lol
It's not that "cheap" valves were used per say but they were likely matched with the original build of the engine. Since then Cleetus has upgraded the Con-rods to aluminum and put new Frankenstein heads on it, but used the old valve train from the original build. So the valves and pushrods-rockers/springs were all focused around the original setup. Now that the heads are flowing better air and they can shove more than 35 PSI of boost in it, they need a more heavy duty valve train to match those needs. There is all kinds of wizardy involved with valves like sodium filled and titanium metal with thermal-nitride coatings and other exotic stuff. Certain exhaust valves do better in certain RPM range and all kinds of technical beep boop science stuff associated with specific uses and trying to match them up with your needs.
@@aSinisterKiid I would have figured the Frankenstein heads came with valves. Those things are not cheap and you'd figure they want to do their own lapping/seating etc

Bummer to see you guys having so many engine issues. I wouldn't be very happy considering the operation you seemingly are trying to run and the caliber of people involved.
They have explained a few times with Leroy's transmission, when they are pushing things as hard as they are, stuff happens. Even with them having become more mechanically sympathetic recently.
@@DeatGaming I understand that. There is a difference between abused parts/poor maintenance and incorrectly spec'd components for the purpose. There are other examples of LS engines, making more power on methanol with trouble free power for a year or better. Of course those are certain examples and every operation is different, but then there is going to the people who know, especially when the information is very public and used by others in the same communities. It's like someone spec'ing components for a PC build that will not survive the scenarios you put them in. I commented on their video when they put the powerglide in, along with others, that it would never last. It's the wrong transmission for the application. I'm not hating on anyone... I just hate seeing people go through all the work and money only to have failures when there are other prominent examples of equipment that works in the same or very similar conditions.
@@MThompsonjr115 ...So, what do you propose? If you have all of the answers, then I would think they need you in the operation.
The engine issues have been so frequent because they keep repeatedly building stuff that meets the job at hand instead of building stuff to 15 steps past the job at hand and then some
@@54raceman but didn’t they just get a brand new bigger better motor for Mullet that should easily be able to handle runs in the 6s? Why did they not get valves that were a good match for the engine at that time, if they were going all out?
They have a decent amount of experience with this stuff, and they have some very knowledgeable friends in the racing scene and are buying engines from pro engine builders. Unless they told the engine builder to use specific parts in the heads I’d be annoyed the builder didn’t spec it better.
I bought RAYCONs about a year ago. PERFECT! Everything there saying and more. The best earbuds out there for the price!
