So from a mechanics perspective, the raw fuel has a lot of detergents in it so the gas washes out all the oil film from around the rings and effectively lowers compression. This would account for reduced power and poor idle
Heaps of 2 strokes run just fine on 50:1 fuel/oil mix. There would have been heaps more oil in the mix than that, just considering what would have remained in the filter and oil passages. My guess is that engine would have run for ages, however the gasoline boiled away fairly quickly, and once below the oil pickup could no longer circulate.

I have a theory. It wasn't necessarily the gas that killed it, it was the lack thereof. Gasoline has such a low flashpoint, as it heated up in the engine, it boiled off, and by about 5-10 laps in, there was no gas left, thus the low oil pressure light. I have heard stories of a fisherman out in the ocean that had changed his oil and didn't tighten the drain plug on his outboard (Some yamahas use a weird bung thing like a brake bleeder, so it can seep if left loose), he shut down miles and miles offshore, fished for a while, then started the boat back up and found all the oil had leaked out, so he tightened the plug, filled the crankcase with saltwater (the only liquid he was surrounded by) and ran it back to the marina, but had to stop every mile or so because the engine would boil the water out of the crankcase, so he'd refill and keep trucking until he made it back safe and sound, pulled the boat out and changed the oil several times, and it still runs like new. No idea if that is a true story, but it does make me curious about boiling off having an effect on longevity, and what salt water would do inside a crankcase.
Ok so what your saying is they need to redo it except put a gas can next to Cleatus and rig it so he can add more cushion when needed....Chicken dinner
@@1STGeneral as long as it isn't a spill proof gas can, those things don't pour and leak everywhere, otherwise it sounds like it'd meet OSHA standards lol

@@ctdieselnut yeah the 2v isn't a 'powerhouse', but it had plenty to do what ya need to do for the most part as a standard consumer. Just an ls for sure has more power potential
that lasted WAY longer than I expected, seeing as petrol is a solvent and not a lubricant it must have just been the residual oil that didn't drain out keeping it "alive" for a few miles.
@@jackass123455 "no oil" never means NO oil though, unless it's just been put together and never had any in it, there is a surprising amount that stays behind, the better the oil the more it will cling, it would be interesting to compare what they just did, to draining the oil and then going out and counting the laps without adding anything, the petrol/gasoline would have washed the oil out if the oil pump was able to pump it. Coolant is overrated if you don't care about the motor, they will go a very long time so long as they have some lubrication, takes a lot of heat to lock up through expansion alone
@@derekgardin1512 yeah that is what I am impressed with, the only thing that makes sense in my mind is that the oil pump wasn't "pumping" the fuel, merely splashing it around inside the vanes of the pump, and the residual oil reduced the rattling/knocking/grinding for 6 miles. Gasoline/Petrol has absolutely ZERO lubrication properties it is 100% a flammable solvent so by all reason that engine should have died before it even made it onto the track.
Everyone bump this so he can see it!!
Very right it totally boiled off causing a NO OIL issue
Yeah exactly this. Don’t forget most two strokes blow fuel through the crankcase, but there’s a constant supply of it so it won’t boil off like it did here.
Would love to see the oil/fuel drained to see what it looks like
Guarantee there's none left. The heat of the engine vaporized all of it.
You should try it again with diesel and see the lubricating properties of diesel vs gasoline
The PCV system added extra boost to the intake system with the hot gas fumes.
I love how you guys where worried about fire filling it up but filled it right beside the 1000 gallon fuel tanks lol
George’s head shake after he pulled the dip stick out is what got me 😂😂😂
Reason it wouldn't start at first is because it most likely vapor-flooded it self through the PCV.
That was my thoughts as well. If they used fords clear flood mode it might have helped.
It seems like a good idea to fill it next to full oil and gas tanks
You definately want to do that next to several large fuel storage tanks.
Because merica
Quite possibly the stupidest thing I have ever seen them do on this channel
@@1fat66 they came so close to being responsible😭 fire suit, full helmet, then threw it all away
Youuuuuuuu don't need to worry aboot the huge fireball next to the 150 gallons of greasy ol 1203
@@1fat66 Spot on , the 2nd was Cleetus messing around in the snow in the dark and not knowing the area or the lay of the land..
Not sure if it was for the thumb nail or they really wanted to do the oil change and refill at the Gas station, if that was the case, they really did not think of all the risk involved..
definitely need to drain the gas in one of them and run it on straight octane booster! 😆
For the next test we should see if gunpowder can be as effective as nitrous. Need to find a way to send it down the intake and see if gunpowder equals more freedom. 😆
That's a brilliant idea,.
Check out a video by warped perception, he did that and it was very interesting!
Please get waterproof cameras in case you were to ever get hit by a hurricane... It would be wild to get footage an what not as the storm gets close an during the onslaught of rain. You guys are awesome .. keep it 100
love how no one thought to maybe move it away from the fuel tank! I LOVE THESE EXPERIMENTS
I did this with my mate 25 years ago. Drained the oil, filled it with diesel, ran a lap around the block. His theory was that it'll clean the engine out. Re oiled and good as gold.....until a week or two later it burned a piston out big time!
Awsome to see science making a come back 😂 can you show us what the "oil" looks like when drain it ?
Love how they didn't even push it away from the fuel reservoirs to start it 😂
Edit: okay, nevermind they actually acknowledged that afterwards
The fact that Cletus hopped back in after the 1st fire ball is just nuts
This could be a whole series with various car fluids. Coolant, brake fluid, ATF, blinker fluid..
To make a good baseline they should run it with nothing in the crankcase....
Don’t let your insurance guys see this.. policy gunna go up! 😂
Yea, might wanna hide the whole channel 😆
I'd more worried about the environmental guys.
@@retsaoter Why?
@@--_DJ_-- environmental regulations are much tighter for commercial entities. Since Cleetus is a business and the racetrack is a business the fines for intentionally mishandling fuel and oil are steep. They start throwing around words like negligence and punitive.
@@retsaoter It was a gallon of gas, you could pour it directly onto the ground and not have to report it, at least where I am from anyways. It wouldn't be the environmental people coming after you for antics with a little gasoline, it would be the workplace health and safety folks. Not a brilliant idea for a video.
Another epic vidoe. Tiny wheels and tires for "stock" marauder drifting. Like solid rubber forklift tire/wheel.
I think Ty deserves a lab coat for his astute observation. Have to protect the money maker.
Doing this next to an entire storage tank of gas... Darwin award nominee!
His garbage pail kid card would be "Crater McFarland"
Flordia man.....
Ya I think this was a little more dangerous than it looks on the surface, but then what do you expect for an idea from whistlin diesel
@@KPSchleyer *Nebraska man
@@bepbep7418 there is no more Nebraska man , Florida man killed him years ago , just look at he handles the cold
I can't believe they actually tried starting it right next to the GASOLINE STORAGE TANK!
Imagine if they did it at the gas station!! 😂🤦🏼♀️
New to the channel?!? Ha Ha Ha!! Yeah @ gas station may have opened a can of those fancy 'litigation worms' that nobody likes!!
@@jasonaldenhaley1 Been here since the beginning. You new?
@@TorchFpv You dump gas in your crank case and start it at gas stations????🙄🤔🤦
@@guitars415 hey that was the original plan! Glad he changed his mind!
Be cool to see the same thing with diesel… might actually last haha
I'm very surprised it lasted that long running that hard. You really can't say those 4.6 2v arent tough motors. I had a 1997 p71 Interceptor and it was tough as nails.
And yet people still shit on them.. they really are great motors.
Ford has been making engines for 100+ years, they do and should know how to engineer an engine that lasts. The 300 i6 has cummins-like levels of reliability. I've seen many many of them in f150s get past 300k. 4.6 is a solid engine, nothing wrong with them, just not as much aftermarket power available as say an ls.
I've seen destruction runs where engines are run full chat no oil no coolant for 30 minutes+
The gas would have washed that bit of residual oil off in no time though
@@derekgardin1512 yeah that is what I am impressed with, the only thing that makes sense in my mind is that the oil pump wasn't "pumping" the fuel, merely splashing it around inside the vanes of the pump, and the residual oil reduced the rattling/knocking/grinding for 6 miles. Gasoline/Petrol has absolutely ZERO lubrication properties it is 100% a flammable solvent so by all reason that engine should have died before it even made it onto the track. But then just maybe the fuel was being pumped and was actually floating the bearings, and the lack of lubrication is what brought it all undone. Further research must be done I reckon, cleeter has quite a few crown vics :D FOR SCIENCE!
@@Muffin_Masher yup pretty crazy. I'm surprised, I would have thought fuel would have made it past the rings, especially considering it had 120k miles on it some of which was hard driving and maybe tons of idle time if it was an ex cop car. I knew the Panthers were tough but even tougher than I thought.
Y'all should try diesel, as that has actual lubricating features as well as isn't explosive
Boring tho
I'd like to see this too. It might go for days tho
And it would never die
I love that you give respect to Dale Sr and he was my favorite driver. Racing is not the same without him
"Don't want too many reckless things" as he straps himself in to a potential fire ball 🤣😬
I could listen to George laugh all day. He's a riot.
Those mod motors got such a large quench distance they can actually last until the bearings go without the pistons hitting the head
Good info there Dr Cleet!.. but from what I was told, oil is just for the warranty.
My guess was 15 laps pretty close. I figured there would be enough tar built up that you could get a 0w-10 out of the gasoline mixing with the gunk in the engine
Should do a full on demo derby until they are smashed. With the best UA-cam guys and friends.
The look in his eyes when the thing went up in flames was priceless!!! That was so freaking incredible 17 laps on gas in the oil. Amazing!!!
Ive been driving crown Victoria or grand marquis for several years as daily drivers and i am very satisfied with their service. I haven't abused my cars more than the occasional overdue oil change or a little harder than normal driving but i feel like you can't go wrong with a car like that.
19:21 can we appreciate George wearing the lab coat while not in camera 😂
