This is a great introduction to the cybermen in the modern era! The parrallel universe concept is also very strong and meeting the equivalent characters from that world and how different they actually are to ours.
The scientist that gets killed at the start is played by Denis Lawson, probably best known as Wedge Antilles, from the original Star Wars trilogy. I still remember when they revealed the look of the modern cybermen and i was so excited, and thought they looked sooo cool. The design of the cybermen was always changing in classic who, each time they appeared they had a new costume. Until modern who they stuck with this design.
This story was a soft reboot to the Cybermen, since RTD felt that reintroducing the classic Cybermen (like the one in the museum in S1) would be confusing for new audiences, so gave them a clean slate (unlike the Daleks which were left the same save for adding the last Time War lore- e.g the Dalek creator from classic who, being the genius that the Eccleston Doctor referred to) In classic who Cybermen had more 'human' bits left underneath the cyber-parts e.g organic eyes being visible behind the cyber-eye and visible chins, (like getting a pacemaker to help the heart or metal replacements for bones, just on a whole body scale) whereas, as the episode said; these Cybermen are pretty much just the human brain in a robot suit

So glad you're enjoying the reactions! I feel exactly the same way when I watch people react to my favorite shows. :) According to my schedule, I'm due to start series 8 over on Patreon on May 12th. So, I'm not too far away. :)
Yes - as an old WHO fan - the teasing of seeing the new Cybermen was agonizing! LOL And yes! You got to experience a cliffhanger. Again as an old-WHO fan, that was one of the best parts - going to school the next day, talking with your friends about how the Doctor was going to get out of this one! Each story in the old days was around 4-6 episodes, so you'd have multiple cliffhangers per story. Yes, the writers HATED them cos they'd need to pace the story with some huge dramatic moment every 25mins... but - as a kid, I loved it. :) The new era hasn't necessarily done well at this when it does do multiple part stories... I mean - some great cliffhangers I guess, but sometimes the resolutions haven't been great.
I'm actually in season five of Classic Who over on Patreon, so I definitely get what you mean about the pacing of the stories. I remember doing the same thing with my friends and the shows we watched growing up. We'd even call each during the commercial breaks to talk about what had just happened since the last commercial break. lol
Well, thank YOU for watching the reaction! And, yes, this was a fantastic episode for Mickey. I really started to see him in a completely different light after this (as we're clearly supposed to).
My first experience with cybermen as this episode came out about 3 years before I was born and apart from Doomsday and the army of dead, I believe and will always believe this is peak cyberman. (P.S this is my favourite series despite it's flaws, the most nostalgic)
I'm reacting to Classic Who over on Patreon (currently in season five), and found their first story a pretty interesting one even though the Cybermen aren't my favorite.
I meant that I thought the Cybermen were going to be "robots", not that I thought that's what the Daleks were. I could have worded that better in the video.
"I just gave away 10 years of my life, worth every second!" later: "I dont wanna go" maybe you should have thought of that before you used your own lifespan to charge the tardis 10 lol

By this point in my life I had seen many of the iconic Doctor Who stories so I knew of many of the iconic characters and stuff but I was always interested in the Cybermen after seeing the Doctor's Reaction to one in Dalek. The Daleks were the most iconic Doctor Who enemy but the Cybermen were an easy 2nd place. Out of curiosity, how much of classic Doctor Who have you seen?
The most recent episode I recorded was episode 5x23; The Web of Fear: Episode 1. I didn't react to every story from the first few seasons, though. @@BritanyBinges Fair enough. I do like the 2006 Cyberment but as you probably saw with the Moonbase, the Cybermen do start to become more robotic as time goes on. But the 60's is an era with many lost episodes and very few people have missed out on many good stories.
