    In the original draft of this episode's script the scene with "Sally the cyberman" was way darker. Instead of a bride the night before their wedding, in the 1st draft the cyberman was originally going to be a 6 year old boy who was supposed to be at his birthday party before being converted. This was deemed too dark for Saturday night viewing, hence the change.

    Rose really treated Mickey like garbage. Even in their goodbye the "what if I need you" really burned me on her character. Like, seriously Rose? You treated him like absolute garbage, even when he came through time after time and then when he finally makes a stand for himself you make it about you?
    Billie Piper does a great job, but there are elements of Rose that just grate on me.

    Andrew Hayden-Smith, who plays Jake, was probably best known as a children's TV presenter to the younger members of the audience, but he first came to prominence in children's drama series Byker Grove, set in youth club in the north-east of England. It's where Ant & Dec, who you may have heard of, also got their big break.
    Another big name in this is Roger Lloyd Pack, but his UK fame far precedes his Harry Potter role. From 1981 until his death, he was best known as Trigger in the sitcom Only Fools and Horses, and later played Owen in the 1990s sitcom The Vicar of Dibley. In short, he's a much missed national treasure.
    Although he isn't in this episode, I will also mention Don Warrington, who played the UK President. He first became a household name playing Philip in the 1970s sitcom Rising Damp, and can still be seen on UK TVs today, in the light-hearted murder mystery drama series Death in Paradise, where he plays Selwyn Patterson, the Chief-of-Police of fictional Caribbean island St Honoré.

    I remember after this aired they released a couple of flash games on the Doctor Who web site where the idea was you play as the preachers & take out the cyber factories in Paris, like Mickey said he & Jake should do at the end of the story
    One was a real time strategy game where youd send so many preachers to a particular factory, play rock-paper-scissors to try & clear the factory of Cybermen before moving onto the next. The other was a side scroller using Lumic's zeppelin to rescue people from Cybermen

    It did occur to me that when you said you loved Jake’s accent - it’s north-east England - that you might care to watch (not necessarily react to) series three of ‘Auf Weidersehn, Pet’ (it’s on BBC i player I think) which is set in Newcastle upon Tyne, so many of the cast speak in the same accent (only stronger mostly). Three of our heroes speak in the same accent and the rest of the gang have other regional accents: Moxy - Liverpool (you might recognise him from Guardians of the Galaxy!), Bomber, Bristol/West Country and Barry (brilliantly played by Tim Spall who you might recognise from some of the Harry Potter films), Birmingham/Brummie. The final cast member has a London accent and a VERY familiar face!

    I like this two parter a lot which I feel like I say form most of Russle T Davies era because it is mostly full of great epiodes but with these two inparticular there are things I love but also things I hate.
    I feel like the way they got out of the cliffhanger was a bit ridiculous as they build it up to be this inescapable situation and then BAM solved, moving on. I remember my firend missed the first few minutes of the episode and asked me how they escaped and I honestly couldn't remember. I also think the way they defeat the Cybermen is a bit meh as there is a convinient phone shaped socket there just so the Doctor can blow they Cybermen up with feelings. I like the idea, them seeing who they are and going insane I just think the execution of the scene was a bit rushed.
    But I do like Mickey a lot in these episodes and the emtions of all the characters. Rose and her Dad, Mickey and his Grandma, Rickey and the Woman with the EMP bomb and even the Cyberman that was going to have awedding the next day. As well as this it feels tense with them sneaking around at night

    Question, I feel like at the start the mid season thoughts were for thoughts you had after time processing and the thoughts at the end of vids were your immediate impression, however it now seems you're holding back talking about your immediate impression in order to save it for the thoughts video, I know you're quite far ahead so I just wonder if it ever goes back to the original idea? It's just at this point I don't feel like I'm getting a lot of reaction in your reaction videos just the mid season one

    • @BritanyBinges
      @BritanyBinges  Рік тому +2

      It's disappointing you feel you're not getting a lot of reaction in the videos when the majority of it is me reacting to what's happening in the actual episode. Now, the review/reflection at the end, I can see where that feels lacking (although there are some reactors who never share their thoughts at the end).
      The reason is, in the beginning I did need extra time to process because the world of Doctor Who was all so new. Even if I did have thoughts right after watching the episodes that it seems like I'm holding back, my perspective would sometimes change once I watched the episode again because I had missed something or didn't quite understand something the first time around.
      These separate thoughts videos take a surprising amount of time. Between watching each episode a second or sometimes third time, taking the notes, filming the video, editing the video, etc. just one of these videos can take 10-12 hours to make. Because of that, I actually stopped doing them once I had a better grasp on the world of Doctor Who in general. So, the last thoughts video is the mid-series thoughts for series three. After that, my immediate thoughts are shared at the end of each video.
