In the original draft of this episode's script the scene with "Sally the cyberman" was way darker. Instead of a bride the night before their wedding, in the 1st draft the cyberman was originally going to be a 6 year old boy who was supposed to be at his birthday party before being converted. This was deemed too dark for Saturday night viewing, hence the change.
In a deleted scene at the end therescs scene with Jakevand Mickey with Jake revealing he and Ricky were in a relationship and Mickey replies ok definelty not replacing him
I have seen that and it broke my heart. I do think the episode works without it, but it certainly gives more context to how upset Jake was over losing him. And it makes the line about Mickey having the same face more powerful. :(
Rose really treated Mickey like garbage. Even in their goodbye the "what if I need you" really burned me on her character. Like, seriously Rose? You treated him like absolute garbage, even when he came through time after time and then when he finally makes a stand for himself you make it about you? Billie Piper does a great job, but there are elements of Rose that just grate on me.
Andrew Hayden-Smith, who plays Jake, was probably best known as a children's TV presenter to the younger members of the audience, but he first came to prominence in children's drama series Byker Grove, set in youth club in the north-east of England. It's where Ant & Dec, who you may have heard of, also got their big break. Another big name in this is Roger Lloyd Pack, but his UK fame far precedes his Harry Potter role. From 1981 until his death, he was best known as Trigger in the sitcom Only Fools and Horses, and later played Owen in the 1990s sitcom The Vicar of Dibley. In short, he's a much missed national treasure. Although he isn't in this episode, I will also mention Don Warrington, who played the UK President. He first became a household name playing Philip in the 1970s sitcom Rising Damp, and can still be seen on UK TVs today, in the light-hearted murder mystery drama series Death in Paradise, where he plays Selwyn Patterson, the Chief-of-Police of fictional Caribbean island St Honoré.
