  • YOU MAY FIND THIS VIDEO DISTURBING. This is my dog Bluey the Chihuahua. She has heart problems that started after New Years. She's 11 years old and in this video, she passes out from lack of oxygen after going up the steps by herself.
Her heart valves aren't working and she's on 4 medications. She won't ever be "okay" again and I've had to make some changes to accommodate her weakened state.
I created this video to show people what it looked like for Bluey's illness. This video is about reality. It's about pain. It's about the anguish I go through each time I look at her not knowing when she's going to pass on from this world. Since writing several blog posts and videos about her illness, other people with dogs have contacted me to share their stories of their dogs. I hope this video helps you understand your dog's health.

Update: Bluey passed away April 23rd, 2011. Her heart valves became progressively worse and she passed away peacefully at home.
Rest in Peace Bluey. You were a bright and shining light in my life. A great companion. Thank you for being a part of it while you were here.
    Love,

thank you for posting this. 2 day ago my baby boy, a rottweiler who was only 7 years old and who seemed to be in good health was playing with me outside in the fresh snow. He was so xcited running around the yard then charging at me full speed and veering off at the last possible second. Suddenly, just like in your video he fell down gasping for breath. He died in my arms a minute later and I had no idea why. This video basically confirmed he had a heart attack. Thank for helping me hav closure.

Thank you for posting. As hard as it was at the time. I’m here awake at 3am watching my dog who was just in the vet and found to have left-sided CHF. She is 10 and my favorite companion.
    I’m sorry for your loss.

I'm so tired of people who are Ignorant to science and education. This video exists by the kindness of the dog owner to illustrate the problem. She is trying to help others and she has done so. For all you OCD animal owners who know nothing of science -look out ! Pay attention to your own heart health or suffer the fate of this little dog ! ! !

Hi, just wanted to thank you for posting this video of Bluey, i hope that you can have peace of mind knowing this video has helped my dog. We toyed with the idea that our girl was having seizures but was not the same. this is a perfect example of what happens to our old girl and i am forever thankful that i found your video so she could be treated and she may live the most happy and comfortable life possible, thank you :)

I agree with JimBeTubing.. as tough as it is to put Bluey through the process it is very helpful for those of us with aging chihuahuas and who have little experience in health problems known to the breed. You have given me a lot of information in this single clip and I thank you enormously...

I does give me a little piece of mind watching this. I was with my 10 year old Pomeranian while he die last week and I had a suspicion it was a heart attack, but now I am certain. His final moments were spent playing with my wife and daughter, I think he just over exerted himself. No idea he had a bad heart.

😒 Wow, this is exactly the issue that my dog has been experiencing. For a while I didn’t quite know how to explain it to make others understand, even having medical knowledge; but your video explains it perfectly. The key words you used to describe the onset are so on point. I feel so bad as you too have indicated seeing my dog have those episodes. I am afraid, while I am comforting her, that she may not come too or get back up. She also has diabetes along with a bad heart, so she’s vulnerable both ways.
Your dog is adorable, and I’m sure that it feels your compassion - which helps give it life (the desire and will to keep bouncing back) in and of itself.

Our dog is now in this position. Last year, he was diagnosed with heart enlargement. Never had an episode but he was coughing.
Just a few months ago, this was happening to him. He will get excited to see us then collapsed. He will play with other dogs , then collapsed. Typical rush of adrenalin made his heart pumping more. His heart muscle are getting weak and oxygen is hard to get into the brain. Please keep in mind that fluid also builds up in their lungs.
We are trying our best now to make him comfortable and relax as much as possible. No more long walks for him, nor swim in the river (he love doing this during summer). Heat wave are not good for dogs with heart issue.
We also switched to boiled chicken and rice as his stomach could not handle his kibbles since last year. He is sleeping most of the time and he is more content and better that way. I know one of these days, we have to let him go so he will not suffer anymore.

Hi Adria! Thank you so much for posting this. My little 10-year-old Mali had some sort of an attack this morning after running up the stairs and was relatively fine after 5 minutes. But I was in shock and couldn't figure out what was happening. We'll go to the vet of course but it's good to see a video like this. All the best!

My 8 year old fur baby was coughing and having a hard time breathing for about 2 weeks and he coughed up massive amounts of blood today so we took him to the vet and he was diagnosed with end-stage congestive heart failure and his kidneys were shutting down so we had him euthanized today to keep him from suffering any more. We had no idea he was so sick, he was a trooper.

my dog had left-side congestive heart failure going on, she didn't want to eat or go out, coughing and high heart rate, so I had the vet put her to sleep to avoid the pain and distress, she was a 16-pound poodle mix, only 12 years old. I loved her very much so it was hard to do expediently.

@xXIRaWrxYOUXx Don't speak too soon. My 10 week old puppy got Parvo and the vet told us with her other health problems there was a 80% chance she would die. As you probably know Parvo is very painful for a dog, everyone told me to put her down as she entered the 3rd week of Parvo and stopped eating and drinking. I refused and she made a full recovery, the vet was amazed she even lived. So don't put the dog down, you'll wonder, "what if" the rest of your life.

I hated to see that but I thank you for showing it. I thought my dog was having seizures but then I started leaning more towards heart issues. We had consulted a vet when it first started happening but they said it was probably a seizure... After watching your video I see that’s exactly how our old guy does. We’re gonna go back to the vet this week. Thank you again.

God bless- my baby got diagnosed Tuesday morning. I hope I caught it early enough. 3rd day of meds-scared to death-nobody wants to see their baby suffer! Meds, faith & miracles-praying for the best for all. I am doing anything & everything that my dog wants-as we all know-sudden death can happen at any time with CHF. The 1st sign of unusual coughing, especially on soft bedding, sleeping in a way you have never seen (some have it so bad they sleep sitting) my dog is unable to lay on left side-which I assume that would be MVP with regurgitation. You will hear a wet cough or fluid when you listen. If it is on right side, it would be tricuspid valves, if my memory hasn't failed me. It is usually a breeding problem. It starts with a murmur and toxins, age or breeding problems cause the regurgitation (heart valves leaking blood into the lungs) as well as excess fluid buildup.
It is very important to take your dog to the vet if you notice anything abnormal. CHF is easy to diagnose & if caught in time you may have some quality time left with Gods greatest gift. You can't afford not to have your dog checked. My heart is breaking everyday- wondering if I saw symptoms earlier or if I would have just thought to ask to check for this.
I let him do whatever he wants now (restricting salt or anything that causes H20 retention) I will share vlogs when he feels like it. Hopefully others will learn the more we share. Best wishes to all and your poor babies!
Ty 4 sharing your vlog as I will no longer let my dog use the stairs. I know you only did it to show what happens- my concern, we have to restrict excercise, that's going to cause muscle wasting. Ugh! I feel for you, your baby is so young. I wish you the best-it is a total 💔. God bless! Watch for JJs vlog, will try to get him when he wakes for his every 2 hour pee pee. ✌😇

My Chihuahua has done this exact thing, he would run run and then pass out. I literally have felt his heart stop. We spend $1,500 on a procedure to have monitor implant installed. But then the dog knew not to get worked up anymore and would not let it happen so we could get a reading. His heart was checked every way possible buy a specialist. few years later it just happened again. He refuses to run but this time he was coughing and lost his breath and passed out. so confused because specialist can't find anything wrong with his heart but yet this happens. My dog's only nine and love him like a child. I do thank you for showing the video but please don't make your dog do it again it breaks my heart. If anyone has any ideas please feel free to let me know.

Seemingly out of the blue last week my chihuahua started coughing and breathing heavily. Vet says he has a heart murmur. We will be getting xrays soon. His stamina has deteriorated seemingly over night. He is winded after a short walk. I don't understand how or why this came on so suddenly? We had been mixing grain free dog food with cooked food for several years now. I have just read the grain free dog food can cause a taurine deficiency which causes heart issues in some dogs. I'm going to start him on some heart vitamins soon.

Ignore the asshole comments by the ignorant.
This is a sad but true reality of CHF in dogs and most dogs do this no matter if they go up the stairs or simply get excited depending on how far into CHF they are.
These videos helped us prepare for the potential death of a dog we had in CHF and helped us see the actual signs vs. what we were told by our vet might happen.
People who've never had a dog with CHF that still wants to do stuff will post idiotic comments on cruelty, but when they find themselves in that same position, they'll maybe delete those comments.
    RIP Bluey.

This video is more benficial than it was harmful. The dog would have to climb those steps anyway, How many of you knew that was one symptom of having a heart attack? How many of you (humans) had similar symptoms and did not even know that you could be experiencing a heart attack?! Now that you know, you can do something about it... Dont just watch the video read the description, it was not meant to be funny, or cruel, but informational.
Im very sorry for your loss, so sad.. Hopefully no pain

  • @rmyersjohns3353
    @rmyersjohns3353 4 роки тому

This is an episode of syncope. Dogs and cats with congestive heart failure, CHF, cannot avoid syncope at end stage of their heart disease. This is not a seizure, as it's not neurological in source/cause. Even on pimobendan (Vetmedin), furosemide (Lasix), enalapril/benazepril, and spironolactone, these guys eventually have productive coughing of fluid, increased breathing rate and effort, multiple syncopal episodes, heat/cold and exercise intolerance to the point walking 10 feet is fatiguing and results in syncope. Euthanasia by injection is a very humane end before the dog is drowning in lung fluid secondary to the heart failure. Bluey was very fortunate to have a pet owner that understands when Bluey couldn't manage daily and her quality of life decreased despite prescribed therapy for heart disease. Many dog breeds are predisposed to heart disease. Filming syncope is not inhumane. Rushing to the ER for syncope in a known heart disease, treated patient will just lead to stress traveling and being in a hospital. Blue gums (cyanotic gums), coughing up fluid, and persistent increased respiratory rate/effort (>40bpm) while at rest are emergent symptoms needing immediate veterinary intervention, not syncope. We carefully catheterize these patients while administering flow by oxygen, recovering in oxygen chamber between steps securing IV catheter, or intubating if arrives unresponsive. Dogs and cats recover from syncope in 2-3 minutes average. Recovery from a seizure in 30-90 minutes, as the post-ictal phase varies per patient and length of seizure (20-60 sec). Collapse immediately following exercise is classic presentation of cardiac syncope. No drooling, no paddling, no vocalizing, no tremors, no eyeball rolling/rotation (nystagmus) during this episode indicate no seizure. Sorry for your loss of Bluey. Relieved he was given quality care and love, from a responsible pet owner who managed his heart disease with a veterinarian.

@TheEsotericDesi She states a couple of times during the video that the dog weighs four pounds. A four pound chihuahua is typical size if not a little on the small side. Pay attention..

I lost my teacup chihuahua this morning July 8th at 2:30 in the morningshe had been acting strangely just going into different places and wanted to be alone. Although when she see my fiance she would brighten up. Last night out of no where she woke me up she seemed very confused and could not catch her breath. I was convinced that she was choking on something. She loved me to put my fingers down her throat I felt nothing. I gave her some ice cold water thinking because of the heat she may have been hot. Nope she drank lot of it. Then again she gasping for air with almost a kind of honking sound if you will. I started walking with her holding her like an infant because she only weighed two pounds 1/4 oz. Out of nowhere she tightened up I felt her urine go down my leg she went into full cardiac arrest I am devastated I am lost that was my baby girl my little Maria so tiny so much love to give so much fun. I'm wondering my first thought was congestive heart failure. Her tummy had looked swollen but I thought she's getting fat in her 11 years of life. I'm sick hurt and devastated. What happened to my little girl dear God she made me so happy. I'm lost. Does anyone know what that could've been. Please share with me if you do. RIP Maria, my mosquito, and my little sangria. All her little nicknames. Mommy's gonna miss her forever 💔

Our 13 year old Chihuahua is going through this now. We do what we call CPR on her to gently compress her chest to "bring her back".

My 15 year old Chipin did this for the first time this morning, he got up out of his bed to go out for his morning walk then suddenly his legs gave out from under him and he collapsed to his side then urinated all over himself and was breathing really fast then his eyes closed, I just knew he was about to die as I was freaking out! I rubbed his side and then his eyes opened and he went to stand and I grabbed him took him to the tub to clean the urine off he seemed fine afterwards and is now finally eating (4 hours later) if he dies my 8 year old son will not be able to a deal with this 😓😢
