My Tula was on the same medication that your Gracie is on. She remained with me for three years. She did end up with pancreatitis and became septic very quickly. Just days before her passing my vet suggested that I feed her salmon and sweet potatoes because of the potassium in the sweet potatoes and the fats in the salmon would help her stay healthier with all the meds (which can cause pancreatitis). I wish I had known sooner about the salmon and sweet potatoes. I hope that you look into this and I am sending Gracie healing energy and love. Best wishes from Texas.

I have an 8 year old Havanese who was diagnosed with CHD two months ago. Her symptoms were only a cough.
At that time the x-ray showed her heart was enlarged to the size of her chest cavity, she had water in her lungs and her heart murmur was a grade 3-4.
Since that time her diuretic has doubled, her heart med (Vetmedin 1.25 q12) has stayed the same and the blood pressure (Benazepril .5 q 24) has stayed the same Two weeks ago her heart murmur was a 5-6.
I was hoping to decrease the diuretic but her breathing is still bad, between 40-80 breaths per min and she is still coughing.
She is starting to sleeps a lot, she doesn’t like to be picked up if you do so around her chest and has become a very picky eater. We have changed her food to a high quality caned food and have to add a wee bit of scrambled egg.
She has started to figure out the medicine so I give it to her as best as I can.
Hard to believe but if you looked at her you would never know that she was sick.
Sorry for the long comment, this is such a hard situation.
Our vet says she is not suffering because she is on so many meds. This seems so wrong but as I said, this is all new to us.
We said to our vet all along that we don’t want her to suffer.
She seems to have more good days than bad. I am going to start putting a Penney in a jar for every good day to help us.
If anyone one has gone through this with the progression of the disease so fast in a relatively young dog, please let me know if there is more we can do for her.

Check out five leaf pet botanicals - Can't promise anything but helped our dog and switched him to balanced raw diet from the prescription canned food we had him on previously. Coughing has decreased and his liver values have improved too.

Praying for you and sweet Gracie🙏. My 11 yr old Yorkie is going through the exact same thing including the disk problems. He is on all the medications listed except the 2 you are eliminating. We recently found out he also is in kidney failure. It is heartbreaking watching him go through this. We were told the same time frame that you mentioned. Thank you for telling us about the Facebook group. I will be checking that out for sure! Sending lots of loves, hugs and prayers to sweet Gracie ♥️🙏🤗.

Thank you on this video. Most information I received for this condition. My doberman I have on dafodil and co x and fish oil. It seemed to work but I am taking him again to the vet to see what they will tell me to do next. I heard from them he was a stage four and now it's stage five or six for his enlarged heart and heart congestive failure.

My pup got diagnosed with chf a month ago
She is a chihuahua mix about 16lbs
Currently she takes 2.5mg enalapril daily
Furosemide suspension 1.6mls twice a day (16mg twice a day)
And the pimebendan 3.75mg flex pills twice a day
But I want to switch her to vetmedin which is not a compound.
Anyways I also check her breathing everyday day at rest and document it on Cardalis app
Listen to her lungs. I have lasix IM available if needed (emergency) and also oxygen.
I’m an ER nurse so this is t new to me but new because caring for a sick dog is scary 😟
I also switched my baby to nom nom and home made food so I can regulate her potassium intake
Was told you can supplement food with ms. Dash-
No salt for needed potassium in diet.

This video is very helpful! I had no idea that too much of the medicine could cause the fluid to build up again. I’m going to try reducing it for my dog. She’s 15 years old. Thank you so much for taking time to make this video!

    Whats the update on Gracie??

  • @justhere3794
    @justhere3794 2 роки тому +1

Long comment here and thank you for you video: My dog also has CHF. You have to understand that it is a natural process for mammals to eventually stop eating as that is a natural process. Same with humans. As a human gets past the age of 85, 90, 100 it is common to turn their heads to food and eat very little or nothing. That is when liquid supplements can help unless they choke. Breathing at this point is more important as it takes effort to coordinate breathing, chewing and swallowing. It's called energy conservation. When forced to eat aspiration can occur. Everything just slows down. As a healthcare professional (for humans) I perform swallowing evaluations on dying patients and it's more difficult for the family than for the patient as we have the mindset that the elder and/or dying patient needs to eat like us and not lose weight but its called palliative care and this applies to dogs when they are very old and coming closer to dying. Comfort measures and keeping the dog comfortable is what's key when they are at the point of no return. For "hospice" care for your dog Urgent Vet has veteranarians that can be contacted virtually for $19.95 where you can talk to them and you can even show your dog on the monitor to them. Urgent Vet and Chewy are the go to places for me. I even have lab strips that I bought from Chewy with no prescription. My dog started taking Vetmedin 1.25 mg. Folks it's heartbreaking. My dog Belle is the most docile sweet white and brown chihuahua with the cutest squinty eyes. She looks like a little briar horse and use to be so active. Now she lies on her bed and gets winded a bit. I carry her on my shoulders for some sun now being careful not to push on her abdomen as her heart is enlarged 😪

How is Belle doing? My 11 year old dog just got put on Vetmedin 2.5 but I keep reading bad reviews in the medicine and idk what to do 😔

Great video, enjoyed watching from Ireland! 🇮🇪 My 16 yo jack russell has this too. Hope gracie is doing well. I've had great success using herbal remedies, which have no side effects compared to vets drugs and are much cheaper. Dandelion, Hawthorn Berry and ubiquinol are more effective than the vet pills in my honest opinion. I was told to put my dog on vetmedin 18 months ago but I took her off them soon after. The side effects weren't worth it and Id only use them as a last resort.

I agree. Natural remedies would have been a better fit for my Tula. She may or may not have lived as long but I think she would have at least had a better Quality of life on natural remedies. On the pharmaceutical drugs she became tired all the time. And of course the meds shut her pancreas down or overloaded her pancreas. So, yes I agree with you. Sending love and light to your baby.

Hi there, I know this is a long shot since I can see it's been a long time since you commented, but I was wondering if you could tell me a little bit more about your journey with your dog? I'm in a very similar situation with my sweet girl Molly. She had a lot of side effects on vetmedin etc and I really want to try herbal remedies like you suggested here instead, but I can't find any information on the right remedies and dosages. I'm willing to try anything. Any information would be amazing. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

@@user-jl8mc8xf4r my jrt is 19 soon and still going strong. I wrote that 2 years ago and was subsequently won over by vetmedin and furosemide - even though I only gave half the recommend dose for a long time. I continue with her herbal regimen daily too - dr mercola ubiquinol is the best product. Hawthorn powder and dandelion too. Each dog is different and sadly my dog has been blessed with an early diagnosis. I will send you some videos to watch of youtube let's me.
Check out veterinary secrets youtube channel, it has excellent advice for herbs for the heart.
Also all fur dogs youtube channel has great advice, the lady's dog was given 6 months to live but is still alive 4 yrs later
