  • We compare the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 vs the refreshed 2500HD. These two trucks compete in different classes but when looking at the LT trim with similar equipment, they are priced very similarly. With both trucks now having essentially the same interior, the pick now comes down to whether you need/want the extra capabilities of the HD. The gas 6.6L receives a new 10 speed Allison tranmission which should help performance even further. With towing, payload, physical dimensions, and MPG being some of the deciding factors for many, which would you choose and why? Leave a comment below!

This is great video. It is surprising that the 2500HD cost is so close to that of the 1500. The 2500 makes sense if you pull really heavy loads and tow them often. But if you do not tow really heavy loads (meaning like a 4 horse trailer or a skid -steer), the 1500 is ideal. I have owned both, and the 1500 is far more useful. Parking at Home Depot is easy in the 1500, for example, but you have to park in Home Depot's hinterlands with the 2500. And, there really are not that many people who tow 4-horse trailers or skid -steers on a daily basis. Not even here in New Mexico, where towing horses is common. But the best thing of all about a Chevy Silverado 1500 LT is the way it drives and rides. The drive and the ride are downright beautiful. I tow reasonably heavy loads in my 1500 LT (a 2-horse trailer and a 2-axle dump trailer), but I go to Home Depot more than I would ever pull a skid-steer. Getting into a Chevy Silverado 1500 LT every day for a drive is just fun. Getting into a 2500 just for a drive is more of a chore. I'll just put out there that when I drove a Ford F-250 turbo diesel, driving at all was a pain in the ass. Thank you for your video.

Damn it one of the reasons why I clicked on this video was to figure out the MPG difference!

I could use either but I think I’m going 2500, it’s just better/safer with a larger travel trailer, plus it’s way cooler for the same price.

For $800 more you can just jump up to a 3500

I went with a 2500 to get the bigger more capable truck for roughly the same money.

Husband and wife trucks. My mother-in law drives the 1500 and her man drives a 2500.

One of the reasons I’m considering a 2500 is it doesn’t have Cylinder Deactivation (to my knowledge). Cramming more technology is making engines less reliable. Not a fan.

Would be nice to know the MPGs you spent time to address it but didn’t even compare…

I would love to compare the MPG but manufacturers don't release ratings for heavy duty trucks.

GM (GMC/Chev) offers 2-wheel drive in the half-ton trucks. Ford's XLT (2wd) 1/2-ton truck spec out for $62.205.00. I did find a Ford 250 XL 2wd (CCab) spec out for 54,000. RAM's 1500 Classic you can get 2wd. So too the Ram 1500 except for TDR and Rebel. I am a black-top paved road warrior.

This is very true. 1500s will have rebates and such on them. 3/4 or 1 ton trucks will not.

Good video. For towing, with the 1/2 ton I wouldn’t tow above 7000# with 800# payload. Anything much above that, go with the 3/4 or 1 ton trucks. Thanks for sharing.
