Happy belated birthday, kevin!!! “WIP section…also known as Ray’s portion” 😂😂😂😂😂 haaaha! Y’all make my day. I’m glad I’m finally able to watch your ‘cast! ☺️🫶🏻🧶
Just purchased the Salish pattern to knit stocking stuffers for all my boys. I have two adult sons and my partner has two and this pattern looks just like the hats they love! As always, a great episode!
Hi Kevin and Ray, beautiful work and hope you get the yarn to finish your dad’s cardigan. Love the bags and it was lovely to hear you had a wonderful birthday Kevin. Have a fabulous week ❤❤❤
Hi boys it's Thursday morning here in the UK I watched your post from my hospital bed on Monday evening after just going through surgery to have a facial abcess drained and 6 teeth removed, one of them being a wisdom tooth my old dentist overlooked which had receided into my gum and lay there slowly decaying for years until it finally gave way and the puss tracked and started to attack the rest of my teeth and I ended up as an emergency intake what fun, anyway thank you for cheering me up I was trying not to laugh or smile because I was sore and swollen but it was impossible with you two, you both cheered me up so much I thank you from the bottom of my heart stay well looking forward to your next post love Julie xxx
Omgoodness that sounds so painful! I hope you feel better soon. This is a great podcast isn’t it? I really enjoy it too. You are going to feel so much better now all that gunk is cleared up. Safe healing.
Thanks! Ray-wishing you luck finding a skein of yarn to finish your Dad's cardigan-think most of us have had this happen but you just have it happen very publicly. Deborah Harkness of the Discovery of Witches is releasing book 5 around 7/16- I get to see her on her book tour in San Diego-so looking forward to it!
I have often knit a "man's" pattern for myself because, at least in the old days, patterns for men were always more tailored and crisp than the foo-foo patterns for women. Thankfully, things have changed and we can now knit any pattern for any person. Hallelujah! 🙂
That’s funny-I am tall, with broad shoulders and I would knit men’s patterns because they weren’t as fitted or unforgiving like women’s patterns-which were much more detailed and needed more detail adjustment to get the fitted sleeves shoulders, bust line and waist shaping to fit correctly. Of course I don’t understand what “foo-foo” means so maybe that’s what you are referring to.🌻
Hello to you both and thanks for another interesting podcast. Kevin, I just returned from my local FedEx Office where I had my Sock Project book by Summer Lee spiral bound. They did a great job, while I waited, not too expensive, and the margins still have plenty of room. I look forward to practicing my sock knitting and reading her book. Love that you both are doing some crochet too! 🤗😺
I’m sooo excited for you Kevin about getting the Sock Project Book. I’m a super fan of summer Lee and looove her book. I ordered mine in February and have been reading every chapter. I think I mentioned on a comment last episode and I have mentioned her book several times on my little UA-cam channel. There is so much great information in it. I’m sure you will love it ❤
Yay! I'm happy to participate in the For the Boys MAL again. I've got several projects I want to make for my dad plus this is more motivation to find the yarn for Stephen West's surprise sock-along again. Granny square projects are always fun. Looking forward to seeing your finished Jethros! Sorry about your yarn woes, Ray. I get a lot of yarn when it's on clearance so I have a horror of running short on yarns that are no longer available. Good luck in your hunt for more! I'm sure someone will come through for you.
I love when I see a new episode … you (Ray) made me laugh sooo hard when you said you bought pretzels on Instagram. As always, you have such an amazing collection of beautiful projects. Loved spending part of my Sunday with you both. Happy anniversary and Birthday again Kevin 😂
Thanks for the podcast! I’m just about to start my Jethro, and will review your system for making squares…makes perfect sense (sort of)! Thanks for the suggestion. Hope to wear it to Rhinebeck this year.
When you come to Flock Fiber Fest I hope you build in an extra day to visit LaMercerie and Lamb & Kid shops. You can literally walk on ferry from downtown Seattle to Bainbridge island and the walk to shops.
This has been one of my favorite podcasts. Both of your projects are awesome! I'm so inspired to cast on something new. Now to choose colors from your shop...???
Excited for Let's Here It For The Boys. I've got some great projects coming up that will fit in well with that. If you need a bit more insight on sweater patterns for a male identifying person, always feel free to drop me a line. It's one of my favroite knitting things to talk about. Knitting is fab as usual.
Hi Kevin and Ray...Skylar too🐦! Happy belated Birthday Kevin🎂🎉🥳. Thanks for another enjoyable and inspiring episode! Thanks Kevin for the measurement on Ray's beautiful hat...looks great! Happy Knitting 🧶!
I thoroughly love you both so much. I enjoy your videos. And I appreciate. Every moment so gratitude and kudos and you have my maximum risk for being here
Ray, I needed a yarn that was no longer available and reached out to six folks on Ravelry. Two of them were willing to sell their stash to me. Don’t give up!
I've been knitting since I was 6 years old (I'm 62 so a long time!). I recall many more patterns for men back in the 80s and 90s. I still have many issues of Burda Anna from the 90s which always had loads of pattern for men and I frequently go back to those patterns now.
Love your podcast! Very excited about the Let's Hear it for the Boys KAL!! My husband watches me knit sweaters for myself and lots of others, and he recently declared that he would love a sweater as well, so I wasted no time finding a pattern and some yarn and got started! I chose the Gib II pattern by Andrea Mowry. Her husband (she calls him Spicy Pete) models it well and so far I love the pattern. I'm using Berocco Vintage yarn in a tweedy green, really lovely. Pattern with raglan cables and a bubbly texture is light and stylish. Let me know where I can post pictures of my progress for the KAL! Thanks!
I finally got around to making myself a shawl. It was such a fun pattern, I made one for my sister. Chal Raices by Marianela Galo. My question is, how do i store it? 6 months in a box, will it get wrinkles or creases?
Hi Steph, If it does get wrinkled, you can block it again or just hit it with a steamer to get rid of the wrinkles, that is how we typically get them out.
I am thrilled to see you next MAL- let’s hear it for the boys…i just finished 2 sweaters for my nephews, as per their request!!❤ I just saw a post for testers for a male pattern and it commented that the preference was for male knitters and if they did not receive enough males, they would ask female knitters knitting for the male(s) in their lives. This is awesome, hoping more designers take this approach. 👏😊 Happy belated birthday Kevin!! 🎉
Shoot! I thought I had the yarn for your sweater but I have Wilbur & Wanda and Wordsworth and Wanda. If either of those two can be used in some way let me know....I have tons of each 😬🫣
Men's patterns may be easier to find in more vintage pattern collections. Most of mine are from the 1980s or earlier, but I do have some from the early 2000s. Naturally, the vintage patterns are vintage styled, but they also tend to have enough of a basic form that one can play around with different stitches and colors to update the style.
I beat you to let's hear it for the boys! Tonight I went to my favorite restaurant and gifted my naughty boy something naughty. I made him a scarf of larksfoot stitch with instructions to wear the stitch upside down. If you know, you know. Quite a statement if I do say so myself. Great WIPS and FOs. You get the best stuff to share with us. When I watched Fiber Hustle I heard your name come up! I have my pattern bought for the granny cardigan. I haven't decided on yarn or color scheme. No more international snacking? I miss that. Glad to see you after your busy two weeks!
Always enjoy your podcasts and love to see what you are working on. Everthing has gone wrong today printing out my patterns “for the boys” and Stephen wests new sock along. . Here in Chicago we are having a little contest between 4 shops, celebrating baseball and yarn. They have special yarn for each of the teams somehow, the tv went to a political podcast (Told you everthing was going wrong) so I finally devolved to my slightly younger years and put in linkin park good and loud. I’m going to make my son the Dustland cardigan by Stephen west. Love you guys
Oh and by the way I have been trying to learn two at a time ducks for the longest time. I’ve decided I hate magic loop, hate two at a time, hate toes up. Give me double points or 9 inch circular all day long. Will never complain about second sock syndrome
I've been looking for a simple hat pattern to make for one of my sons for Christmas. I think I'll make the Salish hat! But a bit shorter because he doesn't like a double brim. Thanks for sharing Kevin!
If you don't manage to source more yarn for your Ivan, could you put in a lifeline and rip back some of the length in the body so you can finish the sleeves?
Try Inge’s Knitting Lab podcast she has a great new pattern out that is modelled by her husband, herself, her daughter, her grandchild and it is a basic sweater with all the info for ensuring the fit is great whoever it is knit for.
Mina Phillip, The Knitting Expat, has a lovely sweater she designed for her husband - Gardener’s Gansey. I knit it for my husband. I also knit him the Adirondack Pullover.
Hi Ray Me again with another idea!!! LOL Sleeves are huge width ways maybe you can reduce the width by about 10 stitches or so and this may give you enough for both the sleeves........goodluck in whatever gets you finished xox
I have fingers crossed that one of your 20K+ subscribers will have your yarn so you can finish your Dad's sweater. I see Paramount+ is advertising a new season of Criminal Minds!!
Happy belated birthday Kevin!!!! Yay! Its NATRLHIFTB time!!! I don't have any males or male identitifiers (or those that are knit worthy or they just want hats. ☹️.... the last one washed & dried a wool scarf. 😭 He didn't think it would "hurt", even though I attached a washing instruction label). Just making sure that male designers & dyers still qualify. Honestly, (sacrilege here), I don't care for the musselburgh... I HAVE made a few & the people I gifted them to didn't either. 🤷🏻♀️ Most preferred a sockhead. LOVE the ribbed cap! Especially the purple!! The last one looks like a Georges Seurat, pointillism. 😉 I knit the loose ends of a cap in as I go, completely invisible, no it doesn't look "bulky". Such enablers!! No no no no, I don't need more bags!! 🤣😂🤣😂 Have a wonderful fortnight!
Hi guys. Happy Birthday Kevin. This is directed at Ray. Wouldn’t Pedialite be better than Gatorade? Isn’t there less sodium in Pedialite? Sorry I may be mistaken. Diane from Boston
Hi Kevin and Ray. An update on my problem below. I wanted to let everyone know that I received my order today from Fox and Pine, with one exception, they gave me (1) more stitch holder than what I’ve purchased. So I reached out to them to let them know and to charge me for it. Hey Kevin and Ray. I watch the two of you all the time. In the last episode you mentioned Fox and Pine. I really liked the stitch stoppers you get from them so I ordered (4) sets of stitch stoppers and (2) sets of tags “made with love”. Unfortunately I never received the order. When I reached out to let them know, they just said to reach out to my postman because they say it was delivered. The only information I received was that it was accepted at the post office Kensington PE. I’m not sure what that means but the zip code and city I had it sent to was Oak Lawn, IL. 60453. It’s very disheartening to pay that kind of money and be told that the package was delivered with no proof.
A question and a comment😉 for rays Cardigan: is there a lot of purling on the wrong side? And also - another dip that goes amazing with pretzels is a spoonful of pesto and a spoonful of cream cheese mixed… I recommend the Kirkland pesto from Costco. My mom makes it and it changed my life 🤣
As always, a great episode. Ray, I'm in love with your color palette for your granny squares and the sequence you have chosen. In a previous episode, you also were going to use Carrera. Is that your 5th color?
If you guys are into video game fantasy books, check out “The Ripple System” by Kyle Kirrin. It’s fantastic and at time so funny I find myself laughing out loud. The audible narration is so good. Great episode, as always. Happy knitting and crocheting 💚🧶💚
I’m waiting for rosso.cardinale (Dario Tubiana)’s hoody pattern to be released in late summer. I will be knitting it for my husband. I’m also wild about Andreas Ruthemann’s designs. He has only been at it for about a year and every one of his designs is exquisite. Love, love the Elbbrucken sweater. There is a symbol over the u that I don’t know how to add. No offence intended.
Aww that’s so sweet!! When my son was like 1 or 2 he started calling my sister in law Wee-Wee whose name is Sammy and and we have no idea how that happened 😂but now Sammy has a girlfriend named Taryn so she has become Tee-Tee so he can call them WeeWee and TeeTee! lol
I think you’ll like the last episode of JimmyDoesKnitting on UA-cam. This will gone a be my first knitfortheboys year with a pattern of him. Nice pride🏳️🌈
Ray, you might try contacting Knit Picks to see if they have any skeins of that color left. There might not be enough to post on the site, but they might have one or two. Also, did you do a swatch that you could undo for a few more grams? Also there is a cast on for knitting called the "disappearing loop" cast on (ua-cam.com/video/kNp78kOv23c/v-deo.html) which works like the magic circle in crochet. I've tried it and it's VERY good. It would be a good start for any top-down hat like your Musselburgh. Enjoyed your episode, as always! It sounds like you have great families to enjoy and I am enjoying them by proxy.
Hi guys good podcast today
I hope you are lucky getting some yarn for Dads cardigan 🤞
Those bags are FABULOUS 👍

Hello Kevin and Ray, from Swansea, Illinois.
Hi there 😊
Great podcast as always
Great episode Kevin and Ray! Always a treat to see what you two have been up to and making, THANK YOU! 🇨🇦🥰Sharon.
Ps; I didnt hear any squeeking🤔😉
Awesome thank you for the feedback ❤️❤️❤️
Kevin you could so rock the flower knitting purse/ bag. Flowered bags aren't just for ladies.
Yes 👍🏻❤️❤️
Knitty Natty has a great podcast about the multiple musselburgh hats she has made.
I’m currently knitting one for my husband.
Awesome thanks 😊
Kevin, happy birthday!!! Those marled hats are gorgeous. I'll be buying that pattern. :)
Thank you so much!! And the pattern is simple and well worth the price ❤️❤️
Ray, I needed a yarn that was no longer available and reached out to six folks on Ravelry. Two of them were willing to sell their stash to me. Don’t give up!
Found some 😀
Can't wait for Flock. I'll be there on Sunday.
I've been knitting since I was 6 years old (I'm 62 so a long time!). I recall many more patterns for men back in the 80s and 90s. I still have many issues of Burda Anna from the 90s which always had loads of pattern for men and I frequently go back to those patterns now.

I have often purchased yarn from knitter's Ravelry stash. Good Luck.
Awesome! Thank you! 😊
Oh boy! So excited to see you! Where did the last two weeks go!
I know!! Time just flies 🤷🏻♂️
Omg Kevin, with this hat pattern you've surely found the answer to sock knitting addicts leftovers?! Brilliant x
It really is such a great pattern for leftover sock yarn, will probably cast on another one soon.

Hi Terri! We hope you had some better days, following that day.
I've been looking for a simple hat pattern to make for one of my sons for Christmas. I think I'll make the Salish hat! But a bit shorter because he doesn't like a double brim. Thanks for sharing Kevin!
Absolutely!! Hope you love it 😊
Just watched some "Toni and Ryan", OMG!! Laughed so hard I almost fell off my chair!!!
lol 😂 they are sooo great 😊
I have made 2 Musselburgh hats with 2024 Eclipse colorway. There’s a fade from all color (red) to all black. Worked beautifully!!
Oh how fun!!
If you don't manage to source more yarn for your Ivan, could you put in a lifeline and rip back some of the length in the body so you can finish the sleeves?
Great suggestion! But I was able to get some sent to me by an amazing viewer 🤩🥰🥰
Try Inge’s Knitting Lab podcast she has a great new pattern out that is modelled by her husband, herself, her daughter, her grandchild and it is a basic sweater with all the info for ensuring the fit is great whoever it is knit for.
Oh that’s so great! Thank you so much 😊
Oooo Dot's pretzels are yummy! Ray, I am on the last inch of my granddaughter's Musselburgh. Her size is 16.25", and yeah, I am ready to be finished🙃
Haha you definitely get to that point quick lol 😂
Mina Phillip, The Knitting Expat, has a lovely sweater she designed for her husband - Gardener’s Gansey. I knit it for my husband. I also knit him the Adirondack Pullover.
Oh that’s awesome we’ll definitely check it out ❤️❤️❤️
Oh forgot! Can’t wait to make the cool hat… thanks Kevin!
Absolutely!! Yay 😁
OMG! Toni and Ryan are hilarious!
lol 😂
Hi Ray Me again with another idea!!! LOL Sleeves are huge width ways maybe you can reduce the width by about 10 stitches or so and this may give you enough for both the sleeves........goodluck in whatever gets you finished xox
Thanks for the tip! That’s a great alternative ❤️
❤
The sweater got Roman is going to be so cute
Thank you, love the sweater and it is such a great pattern.
I have fingers crossed that one of your 20K+ subscribers will have your yarn so you can finish your Dad's sweater. I see Paramount+ is advertising a new season of Criminal Minds!!
Can’t wait to watch!! We saw that too. So excited 😆
You do look adorable Ray :)
Aww 🥰
I had that moment of panic of running out of yarn on a sweater. It worked out for me. I am sure someone will come through for you. 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Yes!! Whoohoo it did work out 🤩
Happy belated birthday Kevin!!!!
I knit the loose ends of a cap in as I go, completely invisible, no it doesn't look "bulky".

Yes make designers and dyers ABSOLUTELY count 😊
The cinnamon sugar Dots are awesome
Ohhh yes they are!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hi guys. Happy Birthday Kevin. This is directed at Ray. Wouldn’t Pedialite be better than Gatorade? Isn’t there less sodium in Pedialite? Sorry I may be mistaken. Diane from Boston
Yes 👍🏻 pedialite would definitely be better. There is a newish product out there called Liquid IV that is great too 😉❤️

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Kevin the pod about Musselburgh is called Mostly Knitting.
Yes!! Thank you so much, that’s it
Can you make that first sleeve a little smaller and recoup some yarn?
Found some that someone had leftover 😉❤️
Hi Debbie! So happy to hear that you received the package and everything turned out okay with your order.
I’m SUPER! Thanks for asking! Song is from South Park.
Yes!! lol I thought so 😊
A question and a comment😉 for rays Cardigan: is there a lot of purling on the wrong side? And also - another dip that goes amazing with pretzels is a spoonful of pesto and a spoonful of cream cheese mixed… I recommend the Kirkland pesto from Costco. My mom makes it and it changed my life 🤣
Omg that sounds AMAZING!!! For the cardigan it’s a row of knits on the right side and alternating 1x1 ribbing on the wrong side.
Happy Pride Month from our family to yours.
🎉 yay thank you so much ❤️❤️
As always, a great episode. Ray, I'm in love with your color palette for your granny squares and the sequence you have chosen. In a previous episode, you also were going to use Carrera. Is that your 5th color?
Hi Lisa, Carrera is one of the 5 colors in my square and my main color will be black.
I just bought Dots pretzels at home depot lol, they are good
Omg right?!! Definitely an obsession of ours lol 😂
“You have to pay extra to see that…” 😂 😂 😂
lol 😂
If you guys are into video game fantasy books, check out “The Ripple System” by Kyle Kirrin. It’s fantastic and at time so funny I find myself laughing out loud. The audible narration is so good. Great episode, as always. Happy knitting and crocheting 💚🧶💚
Really? That’s so awesome, thanks for the recommendation ❤️❤️
Dots pretzels are made in North Dakota. You’re right…they’re delish. Costco carries the gigantic bags, as only Costco does. 😂😂😂
We were ordering them my Amazon for a good year and always getting the large bag.
❤
I'm coming when you meet Ryan and Toni, they're gonna kill me laughing someday...raunchy is great lol gore meh but watched some with hubby
Deal!! We’ll pick you up! lol 😂
I'm curious - how much knitting time do you get a day on average? Or week?
Hmm, good question. Maybe about an hour or so per day. More on the weekend if we don’t have much going on.
@@NeedlesattheReadyPodcast I was just curious, cuz it seems like you both get a lot of knitting done is a short amount of time! 🙃
Im super thanks for asking is DEF from South Park LOL!
lol 😂 I thought so haha
Oh Ray! I feel your pain on your Dad's sweater. What about shortening the back and front panels and reclaim that yarn?
All good, an awesome viewer is going to send me some ❤️❤️
Ray try Happy Crafty Homemaker. I know she has Knit Pick yarns. Fingers crossed. Hope it's OK to drop names.
lol thank you!! Absolutely perfect to drop names ❤️❤️❤️
Oh wow thanks so much for these recommendations 😊❤️❤️❤️
I'm wondering if what the person is hearing is your bird. I hear Skylar every so often. I love hearing him.
Hmm maybe 🤔 we might just be so used to his chatter and whistling lol 😂
Ray, why not shorten the bottom to regain the needed yarn. It would be slow but it would work. Or you could cut and shorten.
Good idea but i was able to get more from an awesome viewer 😊😊😊
I'd be happy to gift you a skein If I had any. Kevin would just have to promise to dye some Rhubarb DK.
lol 😂 no worries, I found some 🤩
Aww that’s so sweet!! When my son was like 1 or 2 he started calling my sister in law Wee-Wee whose name is Sammy and and we have no idea how that happened 😂but now Sammy has a girlfriend named Taryn so she has become Tee-Tee so he can call them WeeWee and TeeTee! lol
When I was young I called by aunt Tee-Tee and my uncles Big Unca and Little Unca 😊
@@NeedlesattheReadyPodcast so cute!! 🥹
I think you’ll like the last episode of JimmyDoesKnitting on UA-cam.
This will gone a be my first knitfortheboys year with a pattern of him.
Nice pride🏳️🌈
Yay!! Welcome to the fun 🤩
Thank you for sharing that link Kim, we will check that out.
What if I am making a sweater for my husband but the sweater is unisex?
Absolutely 👍🏻
I don't hear any weird noises, could it be your bird that people hear? I love hearing him in the background!
I hope that’s what it is. lol he’s definitely a vocal one lol 😂
I thought you had a bird!!
We do 👍🏻
I thought that was the noise people was hearing not your table ! lol
Yes! First comment! I win! so happy to see this today.
🎉 lol 😂
