State of Xecution: 1966 CorteX Mustang - The House Of Muscle Ep. 11

- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- It’s a street car, a race car, and a rolling testbed for one of the best suspension companies in Northern, California. This is Xecution, the 1966 Ford Mustang coupe that’s been terrorizing West Coast racetracks for more than a decade. To see how good it really was, though, we brought along Ford’s newest bad boy, a 2017 Shelby GT350R, to use as the benchmark for a new-versus-old showdown.

This guy is the type of engineer I always wanted to be. Good job my brother.
Ok, we need Randy Pobst in this mustang on Laguna Seca so we can see how it stacks up to the list. I'd love that!
Agree.
Quenton Millstid Quenton Millstid because every video about cars has to have a logical reason (or be approved of by you obviously) to be made, lighten up princess
Quenton Millstid shut up princess... just shut up, I wanna see that.
Fuuuuck!!! that mustang just has a presence to it. It doesn't look too aggressive either. The way it just sits so flat through the corners while it accelerates looks great. Definitely a great car.
Eratiik I want one in black tho
Doesn't look to aggressive? Massive rear wing, custom front end w/ splitter, slammed, slicks, triangulated cage, huge fender flares, half the hood is venting etc. You have no idea what you are talking about.
Kill the Triggered it's not that aggressive. Especially if you compare it to hoonicorn.
It looks extremely aggressive to me lol but I get what you’re saying
Compare the stock (in the film) to the end product. Biggest difference between this and the hoonicorn is shit sticking out of the hood and a gaylord wrap job. You must be a child with that pic and this disability to discern anything.
That old school Mustang is beautiful.
absolutely amazing!
The ricer wing ruined it, maybe if it had like a duck tail spoiler it would be perfect
Ben Dover stfu
People complain about the wing because it so detracts from the aesthetic. But yes, it's functional and necessary at higher speeds.
Awesome build! Superior engineering, great overall style, gorgeous paint job and crazy performance. Nice work man. Can't wait to see what the 5.2 ends up being like in it you have to show us more when that's done !
I had a 2013 GT500, which i decided to use for track duty here in NY (WGI/LRP/NJMP/Pocono, etc). Out of the box, the GT500 was not a track car. 4100lbs (if i remember correctly), 667hp631tq on 285 rears. I started with RBF660/Porterfield pads. The Shelby was very hard to maintain in the curves, brake diving like crazy and obviously throttle maintenance was key. I ended up talking to Filip for quite a while and ended up putting in his Watts Link/Toe Arm and a few other little things (brake ducts, etc). Cortex completely changed the driving characteristics of the Shelby, making it much more manageable through the curves, didn't lose as much grip in the rear when braking hard and overall just a major improvement. In the end, that car isn't fully made for heavy track days without some serious modifications, which I wasn't willing to do but Cortex sure made it fun
Very cool episode. You’ve got the best job ever. And that young man created an incredible vehicle. He’s got a lot of passion!
I first saw this in a magazine while on community service. Thought it was somethin else, never thought I'd see it in my favorite UA-cam channel, shitts nuts
omg those wheels are to die for, they look so cool!
yea man i was thinking the same thing!! what are those any idea? im searching all the comments for an answer lol

Glad to learn she’s going back to a Ford mill. Should also be factory blue paint as well! Good luck to this pony!
As an owner of a 66 i almost threw up when i saw an LS in there. Shame. Glad to hear he got smart and is building a Ford motor for it.
Sonoma! My second home. I love that Mike drives cars around the wine coountry. Gives me places to go.
I love nicasio! That's my everyday commute! Another great car and video, thanks Mike and crew!
To me that is just epic, i love that looks and i mean that older mustang....OMG, thanks sharing this video whit us
Amazing machine, definetly the coolest car on this show so far.
Great episode, best 12 minutes spent this week.
And another LS makes it way into a different car model! Someone tell Mr. RCR.
bigvirgotube. On a long enough timeline..
The cheat codes of engines.
So bored of LS swaps....
Because it works, smaller package height wise, so car can ride lower than if a bored/stroked Ovalled SB were in it.
bigvirgotube the ls,is hard to beat, the coyote is good too, but the ls,has been there for a long time
5:18 On a long enough timeline...
Yaaas! Mr. RCR would be okay with this...
What damn video was this
By 1:01, great story, like button pushed.
that red mustang is a work of art!!! barred none.
I love Cortex. The added bonus is that they are at my home track, Sonoma Raceway!
God damn, watching that thing stick through corners is impressive as hell.
Amazaing car indeed, but the least surprising outcome possible. Of course a track purpose built car would far out perform a general public muscle car. The 350R still has all its sound deadening, all its carpet, all its creature comforts etc etc. So much added weight, a daily driveable suspension thats comfortable enough that the 350R could be a rental car. Why anyone would be surprised at the 10 sec slower difference is what really surprises me. You need a better HoM host who understands the common sense of car performance. He's too easily impressed by something thats obvious to anyone else. Still, that Cortex Mustang is a great build.
10 seconds is a lot of time on a track, that's a fuck lot of time actually
i thought the same, no shit its faster its a mustang body with a different drivetrain and suspension.
More power from 7 liter engine, 1000 lbs less, race suspension, welded cage/bracing, crazy aero and slick race tires--are you really in shock?
I'm know without a doubt he "understands the common sense of car performance". It's just a fucking car show....
Does the R variant of this car really have all that though (creature comforts, sound deadening, etc)? I know for a fact that an a/c delete is a factory option, as is NOT going with a nice stereo, etc. The regular GT 350 is less track focused than the R, maybe you were thinking of that version? Still, hardly surprising that a factory car, no matter how good, can't stack up to this highly customized build with a modded LS7 motor in it.
This video is a year old!...Has he made the Coyote based 5.2L engine swap yet? Thanks and God Bless!
This guy is awesome! Great work bro!
I'd love to build something like that one day. I'm even cool with the ls7 haha
Beautiful stang fit and finish form and function 👌🏼
2:10 A BULLITT!!!!!!!!! Dammit, I wanted to be the first Bullitt dropped off at Cortex....
this dude is like my hero
Holy shit that is awesome and the coolest Mustang I’ve ever seen
that awkward AF hug... @8:59
Such a great video, you guys are also using my favorite "testing" back roads haha.
That wing dude, BARF
Beautiful ride.
Oh man your cars so good, let me just hug you lol
In Ca its 66 and older that are exempt from emissions law. 75-67 is still subject to the law. They just don't require a smog check for registrations. You can still get pulled over and receive a citation for emission violation and a referee visit.
that mustang is just godly beautiful and i cant quite put my finger on why..
It's always power to weight ratio. Add in slicks with downforce aero and it will ran low lap times for sure 👍
Stunning car 👍👍
Sick mustang bro!!! ;D
what a beautiful story
Thank god he's putting a coyote in this mustang and taking out the Ls7, gonna make it so much better
random car vids no not a coyote but a voodoo
optimusboy1 Even fuckin' better
optimusboy1 It will likely be a 5.2 aluminator. Cross plane crank coyote based.
Mod motors are far heavier and lack the low end torque due to it flat plane crank. The only reason he's doing it is ford sponsoring him.
I'm sure if he wasn't getting a full sponsorship no way would he be putting a ford motor back in it. LS all day, when a mod motor is as cheap to own and mod as an LS then i'll be interested. i can buy 5 LS's for the price of 1 junkyard coyote out of an F-150..
Damn it's like it's on train tracks the way it handles that is a very well engineered car
amazing! Old stang, especially a fastback, STILL looks better than the new mustang too.
Not a fastback.
n.s.
As someone who owns a 1966 mustang; nothing about this mustang will feel like a 1966 mustang, aside from the operation of the original glove box. They are really trying to downplay how this is a custom one off track car; "I don't like the feel of a tub frame car" by looking at that cage and underbody, this is 9/10th's a tube frame car. I like it, I bet it's a hoot to drive, I want it, but it's a one off track car. Related; the coyote is roughly the same weight as the LS7 (20-30lbs heavier) so it's really only a packaging concern, but I don't think that will be an issue. I'm fine with LS swapping all the things - cheap, reliable power, readily available parts.
What a sweet ride. Classic looks and devastating power and handling. I'm wondering how much of a performance difference there will be when the LS engine is swapped for a Coyote engine.
seeing the panoz's randomly in the background made this video salvageable
Dude...your an engineer! All that time and money and you couldn't put a Ford engine back into it!?! Wow
No brand preference, weight, complexity, package, cost, and availability. It was (as an engineer) the best option at the time, especially for N/A.
Plus why downgrade and put in an engine that he constantly would have to fix
Wow! Just wow!
Amazing video
Sweet ride
10 seconds a lap faster than the GT350R? Daaaaaaaaaamn!!!!!!
I don't like the wing but I love the splitter, hood, and flares
I was having a hard time with the import tuner looking wing but when he popped the hood to reveal the LS I realized I had just wasted 6 minutes.
I hope this car is revisited after the modular is dropped in. It would be neat if they documented the change with an instrumented performance comparison.
Insane! Hopefully you guys go back when the Voodoo engine goes in
If he let me drive that car I would hug him too.
beautiful !
What a great owner. I envy him.
my ideal track car
AMAZING!!!!
my home town!! saw the lakes
Wow made it 5min and 28seconds in. It a new record
LS7?! I’m triggered!
I Hear he is in the process of swapping out the Chevy engine for the Newer 5.0L Coyote engine!...I am Just Saying!...God Bless!
That's fucking beautiful
The heart of a Chevy and Ford I love it I'm not brand Loyal lol
I'll be honest with you bud I love roadkill and I love the grand tour but your growing on me I don't really laugh in your shows but I learn and that's alright
Love the look of the classic Mustang in this race trim. Wing is a bit much, but imagine there is function there. That said....smh at what is under the hood...
If you like this kind of " How it's done " programme, you'll love Cold War Motors and Bad Obsession Motorsport. Give them a go, you won't regret it.
Great car, I own a Mustang GT but, you just can’t beat that LS engine. Especially at the price they can be built for. Very cool to see a 66 run competitive.
The audio editing on this episode is shockingly bad, use a frigging cross fade would you!?
dude i forget u got a show .. huh
You dont need a show to know how to mix one, genius.
Critics.. a dime a dozen.
maybe they did use a cross fade but while they were using it, you stuck it up your ass
I hope it was 10 seconds faster. Race slicks kind of give it a advantage. I believe equal Tire it would of been a great head to head.
That cars a monster
That’s really nice. The kind of car I build in forza and only dream to build in real life lol
I have a 1966 mustang coupe and a LS motor but didn't want to wreck it putting in the Chevy engine .I must be 🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔.Great little car very impressed but I am still 🐔🐔🐔🐔
I threw a fit at 5:17. I knew it was coming. FML
Everything was going well until he opened the hood. Even though the LS Engine is a bad ass Engine. I would have slapped a 351 stroker with stacks or a Coyote Engine...but not an LS on a Ford Mustang. It’s like slapping a Coyote on a Camaro, or Challenger. It’s a bad ass machine though...
Didn't you hear when he put the LS in? The coyote motor wasn't even in production. Also ls7 is still better then a 351 performance wise for track use, which was the idea for the car.
tell that to the 408w guys or any other stroker guys, lol
Or putting a hemi in a '55 Chevy! Blasphemi!
He just wanted it to go fast instead of breaking down
He will love the Coyote platform- but as much as I love Ford, we are late to the party. Chev with its six bolt mains for yrs. Check out the hammerhead ford hemi with the LS block- now we're talkin'- cross breedin' aways beats inbred. lol
Mike Musto rules!
Sick car. LS powered too. Impressive
i got a 66 pretty slick mostly og ..but i want to do this to it lol
Yep. This. Every day this.
I'm thinking this Mustang might end up with a Voodoo. By the way, Nicasio Reservoir looks pretty full. So much for the California drought.
1:25 The tape on the headlights... Track requirements perhaps but I feel like some glass will still get tossed about... Why does not someone make a clear sticky full lens cover, or poly-carbonate lenses... Why do I care... I do like the look of the tape tbh tho... Really sweet car tho, looks like it doesn't have a single unmodified part at a glance :P
Awesome
Ford styling plus GM power. Putting the Internet back together in my book. Look at Mike when he steps out.
5:55 ... is he putting the GT350's Voodoo motor in this dang thing?!?!?!?!?!?!
That wing and motor have o go!
Purpose built track car with slicks smokes a production car ... THAT'S A REAL SHOCKER
8:30 that's Cole!
I love the car ... The looks are amazing and looks like it handle great too .... Hate the motor:(
What's with the amber reversing lights? That's like what Australians would do back in the day to comply with the amber-only rear turn signal law.
Call me when you get rid of the LS and put a proper Ford motor in it!
awesome :)
sorry mike but big muscle was a better show when you drove the cars
He did drive the mustang...
and for obvious reasons not a lot of voice recording in the mustang since you know.... loud.
everrybody no i meamt the drovong format from big muscle was way better
love it
We are not responsible for the fainting spells that will occur when the hood is lifted to reveal a Chevy V8. - The Management
How did Phillips car stack up against mike maers really like to see some one to one with numbers on that comparison
Anybody else spot that 2008 Bullitt in the background at 2:19? I'm thinking that might be the same one that I saw on Facebook that's having an S550 IRS (independent rear suspension) swapped into it
Hopefully that 5.2 he's talking about is an alluminator..
