    Woorde:
    Ek staan verlate langs geraamtes
    Gebeende vingers wys na my
Hier tussen stof en roet en haat
Staan net die duiwel langs my sy
    Alles is weg
En my hart en my siel is vertrap
    in daai modder en bloed
    Staan nou op
    staan nou saam
    Nou staan ek hier
    Gesak op my kniëe
En my hart en my siel is vertrap
    in daai modder en bloed
    Staan nou op
    staan nou saam
    Want net 'n goddelose aarde
Vermoor sy kinders in die aand.
    Uitgevoer deur Bok van Blerk.

From the Congo, the blacks came with the Boere. We were once vety close. I listen to Bokkie because he is searching for a better life for Afrikaners. So do I as a black South African. Here's a prayer that one day we might be close again. I sing this song with all my heart because I empathise with both our ancestors. Resources and life, are our life blood and could be the end of us. One day, we will sing this together and respect both pur ancestors.

In 1969 my family emigrated from Liverpool to Johannesburg - I was 15 years of age. I was at John Orr's school. Where I learned South African history the Boer war and the teacher a female with pretty piercing brown eyes stared at me now and then as she explained the concentration camps in place by the British. I was perplexed but understood why the Dutch hated English immigrants in particular. And referred to as a Soutpiel by Afrikaans kids at school. The conflict reached its zenith when I only wrote my name and signed the Std 8 Afrikaans exam paper then folded my arms and stared at the Afrikaans Examiner. I wrote nothing.
In 1975 I completed national service with the Rhodesian Light Infantry 3 Commando 13 Troop. In time Rhodesia passed as has South Africa to the communist.
I can tell you this. I lived worked loved and spilled Blood for Africa as any Afrikaaner had would and still will do. It is a virus - Africa - that gets into your veins and gives you backbone memories that never die and make a grown man cry if he lets those memories rise to the surface.
The Afrikaaners - I learned in my 25 years in Southern Africa are Great people. And I really love them. As for my kith and kin, their judgment is coming - Jesus told me that is certain!

In the 1970s, I came close to emigrating to Rhodesia (from the U.S.)...but the country then fell. I was sure that Bishop Muzorewa should have won that election. He probably did. For years afterward, they were finding locked ballot boxes floating in the Zambezi. Mugabe stole the election, just as the brain-dead zombie, Biden, did, here.

Jeanne, for what it's worth: After 20 years in the UK we are back in South Africa, now nearly a year, I am (still) very happy to be back. It felt like 20 years in exile, if I'm honest. Comfortable exile, but exile nonetheless. I do not however begrudge or blame anyone anyone who decides they want to or need to to leave South Africa for security, a better future or any reason. It is always a costly and complicated decision, a sacrifice, whether you know it or not. That feeling of being an "ausländer" never leaves you, and is part of the permanent recurring cost of leaving.

As a Boer I'm also proudly a Brit citizen today to give my family a chance away from that mess. And remember for the bad that happened (lost family in those concentration camps too), we also had great English Boer fighter's and hero's, one of which we build a monument to:

If you really like his music, you should learn Afrikaans. There are other Afrikaner artists who make music similar to his. You should also see if the appeal for his songs isn’t just in his music but in the sound of our beautiful language. Apparently Afrikaans is the easiest Germanic language for English speakers to learn, so you should give it a go in your spare time, even just 30mins study every day on a consistent basis would be enough.

    I stand abandoned along skeletons
    Bony fingers pointed at me
Here between dust and soot and hate
Stand the devil by my side
    Everything is gone
    I lost everything
In the ground bleeding man's actions
For what lies below our earth
In the name of war murdered
My heart and my soul was trampled
    in those mud and blood
    Now Arise
    now unite
for your people and your country perish here
Inform yourself as a man of the dust and sand
    turn yourself back to God
find your soul and your heart
    in those Mud and Blood
    in those mud and blood
    Now I stand here
    Fell on my knees
And I know what I should ask him now
Be the fire and the steel in our bodies
    To defeat the enemy's hatred
My heart and my soul was trampled
    in those mud and blood
    Now Arise
    now unite
for your people and your country perish here
Inform yourself as a man of the dust and sand
    turn yourself back to God
find your soul and your heart
    in those Mud and Blood
    in those mud and blood
Only the devil strong his actions
    For a killer's hatred
    For just a wicked world
Killed his children in the evening.

Taneli Do My many thanks I have waited so long for these words. I understand most not all of the lyrics in Afrikaans. We were migrants to South Africa. I passed Matric Afrikaans and my family and teachers were so proud of me. My Mother and two sisters lie dead there now. How can one love and hate the same thing at exactly the same time? Agaon, thank you for the words of this great and remarkable song.

Even if ya all are gone we care for to save your home tounge and let its survive in other cultures. Afrikaans is so nice a love it and its different to netherlands after 500 years its a own language and for me in ma ears much more nice as dutch. I speak paladin touge(extreamly rare palatinate germany the offspring of modern german, english, netherlands and many many other europe tounges) . Even our prime language die so we know how it feels. But i learn your language to teach others. Afrikaans is too nice to die. Dw we are millions of hackers and i share ya vids. And bok... ya vids tell me all even if a do not understand all.

This was a war (1899-1902) with many dimensions. Some of the related facts are often forgotten over time, such as: Boer weapons: These were plentiful and modern. German support provided the Boers with the latest Mauser rifles, 155-mm Creusot fortress guns, 37mm Maxim Nordenfeldt guns, and plenty ammunition.
Boer forces: Were supported by foreign volunteer fighters. They formed their own volunteer corps and came from Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy, Ireland, Russia, Poland, Georgia, and Sweden-Norway-Finland.
Blacks: Who worked on the Boer farms, were put in detention camps. Based on the Fawcett Commission report, about 20,000 black people died in these camps.

As for weapons they were not given free- the Boere paid for them, they were unlikely to be sold Lee Metfords or Lee Enfields by the English so they bought Mausers which were better.

I know it's 7 years later, but while your comment is insightful, I feel it's a bit misleading.
The volunteers were at most a few hundred or less from each of those countries, and often they just provided medical aid (ie. didn't fight). Their support is still dearly appreciated though.
The weapons were advanced, but the Boers had to buy them. They weren't given anything for free.
What the British did to black people is striking though. The genocide they perpetrated on Boers is inexcusable, but at least they were the empire's enemies. They really just killed tens of thoudands of black people because they couldn't care less.
