I'm from the United States, where honoring our fighting countrymen is extremely revered, and listening to this while reading its lyrics brought me to tears. So many men fought for their lives and their nation only to be treated like shit to this day from even their own government.
they were not fighting for their nation. this were racist whites that were fighting to keep Namibia as a south African province, they introduced a system of racial segregation(apartheid) where blacks were to walk around their own country with passports, blacks could not marry with whites, blacks were not allowed to go to the same schools with whites, black could not buy white bread, blacks could not leave in the same suburbs with whites, they could not seat on the same bench with whites this and many caused a continuation of black uprise in Namibia and South Africa which in Namibia it started in 1904 to 1989. the battle between a racist SADF/police and the People's Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN) was launch in 1966 inside Namibia. There is nothing to celebrate here for SADF coz what were they fighting for? they should be embarrassed coz they got nothing from that war, they just wasted their resources and men in the end Namibia remained with Namibians..
@@markuscrause8762 I am giving the world the other side of the story. the mistake Boers and pappets did was to illegally enter Angola apparently looking for SWAPO combatants there u met 3 forces, Cuba, MPLA and SWAPO the journey was long coz time and again you had to go back to refuel. the locals rejected you, the 3 forces defeated you which you will never agree to. today you leave among us becoz we say lets forgive and leave together but you still leave with that shame, regret and fear of the another black uprising. A great song, My Husband is a bush war veteran 84/85 8SAI. To the youngsters out there Namibia to you is just another country but to our generation it was a war, and we fought well. We were to focused on what was going on over there, our backs were presented to the real enemy, our own politicians. While patting us on the back for a job well done they were actually looking for a place to stick the knife.
The most powerful armed forces in the world at that stage, brings tears to my eyes every time. We were a superpower, a first world country and now we are a joke.
I'm Xhosa, 20 years old. There could have been an alternative solution to apartheid rather than the one we know. I believe I could have grown up in an amazing nation❤🇿🇦
Indeed, my people were so very committed to our black brothers ... our nation ... and yet St. Mandela was selected by the World Economic Forum for the plunder of our nation .. so I fought ... signed up with Gen. Viljoen for the coup that never came .. and then just left South Africa never to return. Sad beyond words.
Yes friend you are right.Propaganda, lies , power and control.Using the past as a narrative to hate.Afrikaners made that mistake and now ANC etc are doing exactly the same.New methods better deception tactics same old story.Born a white in apartheid and became adult during freedom I've seen all the similar patterns. We the people are always the losers.

+sean brown - Many English speaking SA's proudly fought for their country '66-'89, in all arms of service. Many made the ultimate sacrifice. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he today that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile, This day shall gentle his condition...
While some Afrikaners use the word 'Boer' to give an unique identity to themselves - a similar word for English-speaking SA's may be 'Pioneer' (in the mould of Frederick Selous, Arthur Neumann and many others).
I miss my country, I want it back.
We were the best of the best.....

Somehow I feel this is the South African version of "Born in the USA", the story of young men that were taken away from their youth to fight in an impossible war to end up being forgotten and treated badly by their own countrymen.
No matter what the politics of the day, these boys remind me of the lads I joined up with. Risking their lives to protect their homes, their loved ones, and the stability, freedom and security of their nation. Rest easy boys, god bless.
Great song, Bok, old son - takes me back to the days - vuurvertonings at Ondangwa, klaarstaan at Eenhana and driving on Oom Willie se pad in a Kwevoel after the marines had swept the road. We, the boys and girls of my generation, we did our duty and we paid a price. FW de Klerk did not do his duty and he's paid no price. Honour and glory to the lads who paid the ultimate price. We remember you and we are eternally grateful. God bless you.
Frederic de Klerk was a Coward and many others in the Government. They did`nt care about the Cause of Southafrica. From a First World Country SA became a Third World Country. So sad.I never want to forget.
This video brings back many memories. Some good, some NOT so good. I lost good friends in "The Forgotten War" . We did what we had to (& what we were told to do) . I feel pity for those that judge the "troepies" but yet have no idea what really happened on the border. I was one of the lucky ones that came back too "the states". Well at least my body came back. My heart & mind is still with my fallen brothers. My mother has always said that she sent one son to war and got another back.

Greetings from England. This is a fantastic song and an excellent video. The SADF was outstanding and it is pleasing that so many people around the world are interested in the exploits of the former South African armed forces. It is interesting that the video shows the tombstone of a soldier whose first language was English, and the tombstone of another soldier whose mother-tongue was Afrikaans. I admire the Dutch (they have always been good fighters) but many white South Africans who fought in the SADF were descended from other European settlers as well. For instance, a large number of Germans emigrated to South Africa. Moreover, many white South Africans are of British or French ancestry and there is also a sizeable Portuguese element too.
Yes, but the people mostly are called Afrikaners. The boervolk don't like the english much so you won't see many english descent. German, french, dutch are the main heritage of the folk. English kept one side. At armslength

Lyrics:
Net een slag toe was jou lewe verby
Roep jy na my
Roep jy my terug na die Kaplyn my vriend
Deur die jare het die wêreld gedraai
Toe ons jonk was hoe sou ons dit kon raai
Soek jy na my
Soek jy my nou in die stof en jou bloed
Jy't gesê jy hoor hoe God na jou roep
Toe's dit als verby...
Na al hierdie jare
Ver verlore dryf ons rond in ons dade
Net soldate leef met grense se skade
Hoe kan ons verstaan
Want daai bos vreet ons spore
In die donker bos was broeders gebore
In die donker saam gebid vir die more
Net een slag toe was jou lewe verby
Roep jy na my
Roep jy my terug na die Kaplyn my vriend
Deur die jare her die wêreld gedraai
Toe ons jonk was hoe sou ons dit kon raai
Waar is jy nou
Is jou naam dan op ons mure behou
Jy was nooit vereer en niemand gaan nou
Oor jou lewe skryf en wat jy nog wou...
En by daai muur
Staan ek vir ure
Maar waar's jou naam nou my vriend
Kan hull nie verstaan...
Jong soldate vergaan...
Sonder rede dra hulle die blaam...
