    I enjoyed this. I have hundreds of buttons that belonged to grandmother and a couple that belonged to a great grandmother. I'll have to start going through mine. I know nothing about buttons. Thank you.

      Thank you for watching and I hope you find our other buttons videos helpful too. Buttons are just fun for a lone person such as myself to collect and use in art.

    Thanks! Took notes. Learning so much from your videos. Books can be hard to find and expensive.

      I know Lois. The most accurate, most inclusive and best book out there costs $300.00 or more dollars. 😢.

    In the marble collecting world, the mixed colors that were a result of using up the material at the end of the run are called "End of Days". We could adopt the terminology in the button world!

      I've heard end of day used in glass terminology as well and the word slag. I agree we could adopt those to the button world since some of our buttons are made of glass as well and even the plastic ones where they took lots of leftover material and melded it together, yeah that would work. @angstbeforebeauty good idea! 👍🏾

    I had a feeling that there was a health risk to testing. The smell! I had an asthma attack the other day after testing. The smell hasn't left my Bakelite after a week. (Hot water test and Formula 409, Semichrome isn't available in my state, CA.)

      You can purchase Semi chrome online. You can try washing the buttons with Ivory Soap and cold water. Rinse well with cold water, dry well and lay them out in an airy open area to air out for a few weeks. Heat will release the scent more.

      @@TheVelvetLoungeLife Thank you. I'll keep looking. Amazon and Home Depot won't deliver to my area.

    My question is, why would you risk inhaling toxic chemical vapors when bakelite will turn the simichrome q-tip yellow? Or at least get rid of one chemical compound by using hot water if you're going to do the smell test?

    • @TheVelvetLoungeLife
      @TheVelvetLoungeLife  6 місяців тому +1

      The chemical scent comes from the bakelite. Therefore, using hot water to stimulate the scent means you will breathe in the chemicals, if you decide to test that way. I noted Simichrome as a test too BUT in some countries and states in America people can't order it because it contains certain banned chemicals.
