How to Field Test Bakelite

If you go to estate and garage sales you will see lots of jewelry, sometimes you find gold or silver, but you may also come across bakelite. Unlike gold and silver bakelite is not marked, so you must know how to test it in the field to know if you are buying bakelite or fakelite. Hopefully this video helps you.

Just sayin..I was told anything composed of pressed wood cespeciallybunfinished dispels formaldehyde into air( in your room for ex) research whether this is valid info.

Here is the important thing, formaldehyde is known to be a CARCINOGEN so maybe don't be rubbing it on yourself too much, same as smelling it...simichrome, 409 is better for YOU.

iv tried dipping the necklace into boiling water and it’s stinky. but with 409 it’s not showing yellow on the Qtip. confusing.

the chemical is simichrome (that 409 has in it) that shows a positive.
