    Yes. When repotting, you do not need to disturb the root to GREATLY lessen the stress on the plant. This is honestly a masterclass on repotting just about any plants.

    My Auntie uses a wick system to water her violets and other plants and a double pot system using the orchid pots inside another pot. She will also take a piece of women's hosiery and put the orchid pot inside the hose to hold soil in but also allow water to go in or out.

    I never understood why my African violets never lasted. Now I know I watered them the wrong way. Thank you very much much.

    Thank you for your videos. A neighbor just gifted me two beautifully little African violets and I have no clue of how to care for them. Your plants are beautiful. Your videos are so wonderfully enlightening and encouraging. 😊

    I bought one for $1 today on a whim not knowing what it is, what color it'll bloom or even how to care for it. But I'm so excited to learn!

    I have an African Violet that has a neck developing above the soil, with small roots out from that. It use to be the same height as the pot, and then I repotted and it is doing this.
    Thanks for the information!

    I guess I’ve been using my AV pot incorrectly. I put the water in it and leave it until it’s all absorbed and then I do it again. My 4-yr old plant seems to like it. It bloomed last year for at least 6 months straight. I never knew it could do that (it’s my one and only violet). I’m needing to repot because it has a baby to be taken out, hence my watching AV videos.

    This video and the amount of information was just wonderful because I didn't know any of the information. I have a little African violet that I've been trying to nurse along so now I know what to do. I thank you so much for providing all of the types of information you did in one video!I took notes and I'll be watching you again because I did subscribe🙂. I used to grow all colors of violets back in the '70s ... under lights in a special room. I sold a lot of them to local garden centers & individuals. Right now I just want a few of different colors. Thank you again, love and violets 💕

    I love your watering method. How often do you need to water (soak them)?

    The only thing I was doing right was watering from the bottom. My AV was almost growing over the side of the pot, I repotted it but took the old dirt off. The root system is very fine and there was only a stem left 😮. I’m not confident it will live.

    I would like to see a video of how to take an African Violet that is not so healthy and get it better. My specific issue is one that doesn't have very many leaves on it and a very thick root that is exposed on top of the dirt. Can I help it get healthy again?

    How do you measure the right pot size if you're going for a shallower pot? Would it still be 1/3 of the diameter of the leaves?

    I did not have success in tenting. I found it created too much condensation and the leaves rotted.

    Can you split them?

    • @buzoff4642
      @buzoff4642 5 років тому +4

      They grow from one central stem, so no, there's nothing to split (if you mean traditional root splitting).
      You can grow a new one, from a leaf though.

    Hi, I know you are busy... I was given an African Violet on Valentine's day. It just keeps getting more and more sick. I'm usually good with plants but this one is perplexing. I have a photo but don't think there's a way to post it here. Thank you if you can help.

    Newbie to African Violets. Getting a lot of info from this video, so I am constantly putting you on pause while I take notes. Big favor - Can you slow down a bit, you know your stuff and it comes natural to you, maybe that is why you talk so fast. I just repeat the segment about 3 times.

    What is root bound?

    • @fore6972
      @fore6972 5 років тому +2

      when the roots have grown to the point that they are pushing against the wall inside pot its in

    • @buzoff4642
      @buzoff4642 5 років тому +1

      If you take the plant out of the pot, and see the bottom and sides are covered with roots, the plant is too big for the pot, and we call that root bound or pot bound.
