I always loved the Les Paul Juniors they may be simple but their sound is complex to replicate I knew a couple of artist who used it stars such a John Lennon and Billie Joe Armstrong and more.
I have owned a SG styled Junior since '71. I have researched the number in Gibson archives and it gives date of manufacture as 1961 but it doesn't have the Les Paul decal (only Gibson inlay) This a been a source of mystery all these years. Any comment?
Cool bit of history for those who dont know, les paul hated the sg design as his fingers kept bangin into the horns and he demanded Gibson take his name off of their headstocks.
Great vid. Love these guitars. I'm going to mod a replica of a double jr that I own (already have a genuine single cut 😊). What tone, volume and capacitor values would you recommend? Or in your opinion what is the best combo? Many thanks in advance, keep up the great work 🙂🤘
Those are Gibson "TV" models. I don't think they were technically called Juniors or Specials, they'd just be TV models with one or two pickups. Weird technicality, I know, but I'm pretty sure George Gruhn would talk your ear off if you asked for a Les Paul Junior in TV Yellow.
Why do all the cheaper p 90 single pickup guitars sound better than the more expensive models? Your best playing is with those guitars. wish I had one.
I've owned 5 juniors in my life, single and double cuts, the last one I had was a '59 double cut. in 1999 I paid $1000. THAT is just about ANY junior is worth, even the TV's (limed mahogany). I don't even want to ask what those 3 guitars are priced at. notice I said "priced at" not worth. up until the late '90's you could pick up a junior for about a grand. in '94 I bought a '55 single cut, all stock, original tuners and that cardboard case Gibson had. this guitar was never played, it was "collector grade" (what ever the hell that means) I paid $500. yes, that's two zeros. I see these things along with the specials going for 15 or 20 grand. you need your head examined to pay that.
yeah, but that was, in all fairness, 20 years ago. With what Gibson is asking now for new guitars (which is ridiculous) the classic ones are pulling in higher premiums, as well.
Blake Wright yeah man, but nothing becomes more "valuable" in only 20 years. most juniors were at best so-so, their has never been one worth 25 grand. I do however agree that the new gibsons are crap.
Hey Joey! I own 4 jr's, '55, '56, '58 & '59....love them! I know they were an economy model originally, but hard to beat them thru a Marshall...more punchy than distorted. I agree they're not really worth the money people ask.....mine were all around $1100 to $1300(58 tv jr)....one refinished for $500.....back in the mid 90's.....I had a friend who bought one in the early 70's for $75!!! I guess they cost so much now, because there are fewer of them, or the good ones have been bought up, so the ones in not as good condition go up in price also.
I think gibson really have been spitting out pukey juniors however me thinks they might surprise us next year or maybe the year after that..hmm or maybe never.this year's 50s lp tributes seem nice though..
please do these kinds of evolution videos for more guitars so we can learn the difference between the years of guitars like strats and lp's
I love my Junior
Great Video! Love the shop guys If I ever go elsewhere I would love to visit Normans Rare Guitars and Andertons in the UK
Jrs have the best tone and sustain . And they feel great in your hands. Once you play a good Jr you will never want to part with it
Ooh guitar history is so cool!

Would love a ‘59 in TV yellow to fulfill my wanna-be Johnny Thunders fantasy.
SG Jr. Reissues are affordable, plugged into a Plexi is tone heaven.
Such a classic tone
I agree with you Joey , One hundred percent !
Been looking for a bJ Armstong les Paul Jr in burst or black..
Good job explaining the Juniors. Gibson should give you a job
Rebel, Rebel that P90 is the perfect tone for some classic Bowie!

the 500k pot on a single coil helps drive the amp.
Voltage, a shop on sunset, sold me a reissue Jr double cut for around 3 hundred. I started building them and Teles. The prices now are robbery.

You are a profit, my 2019 sg Jr is the best guitar I have ever owned. And it feels just like the 63 sg jr I learned to play on.
