I think it must have something to do with this Oknife using 7000 series aluminum vs 6000 series. My understanding is that 7000 series aluminum is stiffer and stronger than 6000 series aluminum. I'm guessing that the 6000 series aluminum normally used in some knife handles would not work very well with a frame lock design. 😎
Case marilla and kinzua frame locks are aluminum.. I’m sure there are others. Compared to steel and titanium the blade retention is weak and the action feels bad imo. I’m wouldn’t buy another aluminum frame lock personally
There’s much more to this knife than Jared shared. The scale material is tougher than titanium and it is extremely scratch resistant, it’s basically self healing since the green color is the natural color of the material. You can take a knife and scrape the scales and it won’t leave a single scratch. It weighs 2.5oz as well.
Since Oknife is OEM'd by Kizer, I hope the premium Drop Bear clip fits in this- the milled one with rounded out section in the middle. That should help both the aesthetics and the ergos.
I have the standard Arkfeld Pro, and have owned it for a year. Great light, but the Ultra didn’t have much more of an upgrade in performance over the Pro, so I waited. In the rewards section (unsure what tier you need to be), they have/had a batch of Navy Blue Ultra’s for 50% off. Sold!
Id like to see how this holds up over time, both the aluminum and the blade steel. Oknife/Kizer has been known to run their premium steels somewhat soft. Kizer has used S45VN before, not sure what the hardness turned out to be. As for the scales, I’d be curious to see how the lock bar holds up after x amount of cycles opened and closed.
Very cool knife! I think I'll have to get one but I'll be waiting for it to go to regular retail. I already love aluminum knife scales so this is awesome but it looks like Oknife implied this is propriety aluminum, not 7075. I don't know, they claim they developed this material for 3 years but I get the feeling it's more marketing than substantial change from 7075. Being into knives I'm also a bit fascinated with metallurgy (maybe "naturally") and other material science so I'd certainly be interested to hear more (nitpick) about it. I'm also a bit confused about the "natural olive" color as well, I've seen some imply that this means it's the natural color of this propriety aluminum or it's oxide, instead of the color coming from normal dye anodizing that is done with aluminum.
Seeing the forest for the trees. Every once in a while I wake up and realize that I’m riding a Consumption Carousel. Been at since my “Ego” developed. Been collecting coins..Comics..Baseball cards..MTG cards..gold..silver..guns..Knives..cars..now I hunger for acerage. Land in states that have pretty sh:t. A brief period of sexual conquest in my teens. And being born poor a lot of it was fueled being a successful thief. And then I met wonderful woman..and a close call with the law..and saw I could make Bank easier with less stress legit. Mirror Mirror on the wall. Thanks J for letting me unwind and pontificate at ya the past few years. Cheers
The kid in me wants to make inappropriate jokes about the UV light, but I will refrain. Knives look kinda cool. Any idea if they make them in-house or if it's another OEM?
If they made a left handed version, or at least if it had a reversible pocket clip, then I'd definitely be interested in backing their Kickstarter. Unfortunately, it seems neither of those options were even considered in the final design of the knife. And I say "final" because at this point in its development, those options are nothing more than pure delusional fantasy.
Take a look at original concepts sketches from Ken Onion - definitely great and original blade shape, typical for kens designs... I don't get why, just why Olight cut blade shape to this poor common shape! Definitely a big miss!!!
I cant believe no one tried an aluminum frame lock, i always just assumed there must be some reason why we couldnt do that.

How ab we focus on all the other way better locks for once
Aluminum framelocks have been done before by companies like Lionsteel. This is just the first time this particular Al alloy has been used
It’s not typically done because aluminum is much easier to Bend and thus damage a lockbar.

I'm so glad they didn't put the oknife emblem on the blade this time, made them look like has station knives, these look nice
I use uv lights to clear my sons room of scorpions in the warm months. They make the rubies in my rings glow too... Pretty neat.
Cool. That's the first Oknife that I've liked in 2 years.

Black lights are great for searching for scorpions.
Correct!

Nice blade shape on the Ken Onion piece.
Love Olight and especially my Arfeld Pro!
The clip and plunge grind are deal breakers for me

My Arkfeld Pro has a UV light, and I've had it a couple years. Something wierd is how a bottle of coke floresseses under UV lihjr
It's those delicious chemicals.
Ken Onion and Oknife?!?! Sweet! Does Kizer still do OEM for them?
Once again, I wouldn't send a knife into production until I sent it to you first!

Ken Onion has designed so many knives.
Ahhhh. I thought it was going to be a KA!nife with a flashlight in the handle.
Deal. If the throw in the flashlight.
hey jared, who is neeve?
That handle/clip looks super uncomfortable. I like that it's a Ken design and that it's using an aluminum handle.
Thanks bro
The knife looks nice but their "new" aluminum seems like snake oil. I also dont like frame locks
The kid in me wants to make inappropriate jokes about the UV light, but I will refrain. Knives look kinda cool. Any idea if they make them in-house or if it's another OEM?
OEM by Kizer
I think they did a great job but jerad is right thr clip sucks and im usually not to picky on pocket clips

Black lights are great for searching for cheaters 😂
Also where people missed the toilets. 😂
IT'S GOT BUCKHORN VIBES

The branding sucks.😐
