Couldn’t have said it any better. Yet a large portion of players still insist on pre-ordering/buying a game upon day one release and are surprised that the game isn’t finished or extremely buggy and glitchy. I consider it one of the most perplexing and mysterious phenomena of our entire existence as to why gamers think pre-ordering is a good idea.

Usually not one to comment, but a bit of a rant. I'm in Australia and the cost of living crisis is crazy here and impacting everyone, while some of our biggest companies experience record profits. Overall, companies don't respect our hard earned money as consumers, and when they do, most of the time they succeed. In the gaming space, we always hear that they have to make it bigger and better than before, but ultimately, I believe it is publishers pushing that agenda. We've seen indie games blow up and succeed and it's pretty evident that a good game is a good game, regardless of the length, graphics etc. I may be wrong as I'm a casual gamer and not deeply involved in the industry, but it feels to me that business' set themselves growth targets based on a crystal ball projection, and our wages aren't growing to keep up and then they blame us consumers for their failures. Start by making a good game that is true to what it stands for, respect your customers hard earned money and stop being greedy.

I think game companies going public serves to the detriment of the end product for the consumer. There’s always pressure to sell millions of copies and one strategy is to push “AAA” gaming which costs hundreds of millions which drives up the price as well.
Valve had the right idea by staying private and they are a billion dollar company with only 330 employees, which is kind of mind blowing. There’s no pressure and devs (in general) and be creative and take risks.

Most of these companies would be better off cutting their production costs and reassessing their strategies.

I remember way back, I paid $70 for the first Turok on the N64. I was pretty young when I bought that, but looking back, that’s just nuts. Now, I tend to always wait for sales before I buy games. Additionally, there’s just too many bugs in games at launch, so it’s a win win in my mind to wait a few months to wait for the price to go down and most of the bugs be worked out.

The funny thing is everybody is saying they won’t buy it, but when it comes out and it is $100 ppl are gonna still buy it. $40 extra for a base game is crazy. It’s bad enough when the “next gen” games come out the GB will be so big we gonna have to buy an external hard drive.

Go ahead and charge $100. I am happy to wait for natural depreciation and a sale.

I remember going to my local Game shop and thinking £35 was a high price for a game
I dont get it, as obviously on paper, charging $100 for a base game would make more money, but when you take into account the amount of people who simply cant afford that, or just refuse to pay that much out of principle, the profit increase wouldnt even be worth it

Could gta6 be WORTH $100 for some people? Sure. I’ve played some games (gta5 for one) across 3 console gens. Ultimately spending more than the original $60 even with sales. But if a great game is worth $100 then a garbage half bake should be worth $40. WE set the price. WE tell publishers what is acceptable. Personally, I’ll play my backlog and wait for a sale unless trustworthy reviews indicate a game is worth the price shortly after launch.

I live in Bend Oregon so I'm always cheering on the Bend Studio. I remember when they first started, one of my neighbors was working on Syphon Filter for them. It was kinda cool hearing the insider baseball.

It is pretty incredible that my parents spent 50 bucks on Mortal Kombat for the Genesis, and yet it only went to 60/70 a few years ago. Feels like costs for many other items have doubled or more in that timeframe.

Triple A standard version games are already now $93 (before tax) in Canada

  • @Ty-douken
    @Ty-douken 10 днів тому

As a Canadian our prices range from $89.99 - $93.49 for most standard editions before tax, which at this point has really made all my friends besides the most die hard "gotta play something new now" people essentially stop buying most games.
For me, I've got a big enough backlog that I could never buy a new game & be happy. I won't do that because I'm excited to play some upcoming releases, but it's made me take pause & decide to not buy or wait to buy many games that I would otherwise be willing to throw down for.
The price increase for us was especially bad as our dollar was on par with USA for the PS4 era which meant we've gone from $60 to $90 effectively in the same period that USA only went up $10. I know this is also the case for many other countries as well.

This is why disc consoles is important because eventually you can walk into a store and get it used for cheaper you can’t do that if everything is online !

I'm personally alright with paid headstarts providing they're not longer than a few days/a week but also cosmetics are the obvious addition they could use to beef up the interest in a higher bracket. That being said it's often a slippery slope and in a few years time games would start removing the lower $ tiers. I can't see myself ever buying a game that expensive anyway unless it was a collector's edition with physical extras.

ANY GAMES COSTING $100 HAD BETTER HAVE EVERY FUTURE ADD ON PACKS ALREADY INCLUDED ON THE PHYSICAL DISCS. NO MORE BUYING ADDITIONAL CONTENT. 😎

Ways you can avoid paying full price for games but be able to play them, especially if they hit $100.
    - GameFly
    - Borrow from a friend (if possible, not so easy with digital games these days)
    - Local libraries depending on where you live. More rural areas might not have a game selection at all or might not compare to urban libraries
These are some ideas, but regardless the possibility of $100 for a game is unreal. I’m totally ok with my backlog, waiting for sales and the previously mentioned ideas.

I don’t even remember the last time i payed full price for a video game. 60$ is already an insane price especially knowing there will be a significant price drop in a years time. To think that a game that costs 100$ will still cost 50$ years later when it’s on sale for 50% off, I just won’t buy it until the set it down to the price that it’s actually worth. Which, let’s be real, is 30-45$ for ANY game. Or y’know, free on the high seas 🏴‍☠️

What devastates me more than the fact that they were working on live service titles this whole time is that all of that time and work is just in the trash, meaning it could legitimately be till the PS6 when we actually see their next released titles with how long development is now.
A lot of people are reminding people that Sony actually gives their studios quite a bit of autonomy so don’t assume these projects were forced upon these studios…. But I just cannot fathom why Bluepoint would be individually enticed by the prospect of a live service God of War. It just sounds unbelievable to me!
