    P.S. I have a mango (about 7-1/2 or 8 years old) which was much bigger than the one in your video, but Hurricane Ian basically snapped it in several places, including the main trunk, and now it is a stump, BUT, within weeks, it impressively started to sprout out several tiny sprouts from the stump. It's going to survive! That said (and I'm so happy about that), the new growth will be very low to the ground, as it is coming out the sides of the stump. Hopefully, those will head vertical enough to create a few new main limbs. Anyway, lesson learned: from now on, I will keep this tree at about 6 to 8 feet, so it will be better able to survive future hurricanes (not to mention that it won't start getting perilously close to power lines).

    • @SulcataGrove
      @SulcataGrove  Рік тому +1

      Happy to hear it’s coming back. Mangos are surprisingly resilient. Hopefully your fruit will be easier to pick once it fruits again.

    • @PeppermintTwyst
      @PeppermintTwyst Рік тому

      @@SulcataGrove Thanks and yes: lesson learned: I think I let the mango get way too big, and thus is was susceptible to Hurricane Ian's lashing winds, whipping it in all directions. The trunk was basically not wide enough to withstand snapping from that, given the weight of the canopy. So I will keep it to 6 to 8 feet, once it comes back. It's currently a stump, but a stump with quite a few impressive, tiny little sprouts coming out! Awesome!

    Great video. Will heavy pruning slow down the fruit production next year ?

    • @SulcataGrove
      @SulcataGrove  Рік тому +2

      If done early in the year, it doesn’t seem to affect production much as new growth can be topped to encourage more branching. If the tree fruits and then us pruned heavy late in the season, there can be fewer fruits the following year.

    • @SulcataGrove

      It will still most likely grow branches upwards over time, but it will branch where you cut it if you cut just above leaves. It can branch lower if you cut below leave. I usually cut where I want branching to begin if it’s not well branched, but many 15g trees already are nicely branched.
