having off roaded Landies i would get a roll bar for your soft top. My ex military 90 soft top had one and having been in one that rolled its essential.
I'd put a roll bar in a hardtop landy tbh, because the hardtops just rip straight off the body cappings and the cast windscreen surround snaps as soon as you roll them.......
Would love to have an ECC electric Landy here in California! Building my wish list including lockers, links, Kings suspension, etc etc. A man has to dream in color!
As we slowly come to realise our beautiful countryside is a finite resource, one thing i have realised is that electric traction is really so much kinder on the tracks and terrain. Practically no wheelspin, high bandwidth torque control in both positive and negative direction down to zero speed. It's the ultimate "Tread lightly" facilitator 🙂
You can tell some peoples shiny toys don't get used off road much ;) My mates take the pee out of me with my "magic buttons" saying it's cheating... Meh I've been greenlaning since 1990 with a fully open diffed Series 1. I just want an easy life now. I'll take my mountain goat and a couple of ARB's and an air compressor over any other set up now adays
lockers are always welcome for offroad no wonder other land rovers were struggling, the mercedes gwagen comes factory with 3 locking diffs which means literaly no wheel spins when offroading.
@@carholic-sz3qvPeople often speak of G wagen 3 lockers as is this was super special. It's nice to have front and rear, but the "third" locker is just what other brands call 4wd and very few off-road cars are not 4wd.
Yeah with Three locking diffs mate! The other land Rovers did had only center diffs as he said in the video. The grenadier had no struggle just like the Porsche cayenne
Looks fun. Couple of points,. You forgot to mention the 4th set up demonstrating how to get over the cross axles and that was the Traction Control in the Porsche. And secondly the britpart man was completely wrong as the civilian 110 and 90 sliding windows also open both panes just like the military ones. I think he was getting confused with te earlier Series windows.
@@ElectricClassicCars maybe on the 90 then? My 1983 110 on an A plate definately slides with both panes and is original as far as I know. Time to do some research me thinks. Happy to be proven wrong, If you did fancy some dual sliders I have a spare set of military tops I was going to use on another project but never did.
Very interesting part with the cross wheels lifting. I am wondering how my Disco 2 would perform with its traction control which supposedly applies brakes to the spinning wheels to provide more traction to the wheels on the ground.
@@carholic-sz3qv My Disco 2 is 25 years old so not modern. It does have a center diff lock but no way to engage it without a hardware mod. It has the Bosch traction control which senses wheel slip and brakes individual wheels separately to transfer torque.
Another good video...did you really think you'd suffer with your rig off roading? No way, however, if you do get the bug to do more extreme off roading, consider getting yourself some ARB Air Diff Locks, best kit available from the Aussies.
They look to work really well even when you’ve a wheel in the air they “grab” a lot better than others I’ve seen. Suppose torque delivery of the ev also helps? Followed you and Jimmy on instagram for this trip looked great.
Is there advocacy for battery swap stations in UK? Where people owning a EV, monthly lease a battery for a battery's lifetime. Each actual battery is switched out whenever drained, at a station, for a charged battery, in a manner similar to the old school full service stations, check tires, wash windows, basic maintenance check list, etc. Maybe an automated lift & removal & replace machine but staff are trained mechanics and even alternate loaner vehicles could be included in a discounted service & montly fee if repairs are needed on the owned vehicle.
@@carholic-sz3qvThe EV Landy was the only vehicle that made it up one obstacle. The Porsche and Grenadiers didn’t make it up, neither did the ICE Landies. 😉👍
Just caught up on these videos, what a great event. I was surprised at how tough those obstacles were and it was nice to see the ATBs in action. The traction control in Jimmy's Puma Defender didn't seem to be working, time to check the fuse! I need to put new tyres on the Defender I just bought because the ones on it are 14 years old, I was planning to go for BFG trail terrains might be perfect, they seem to have lots of grip.
I think an electric motor provides torque more evenly, giving you an advantage on lesser tires, with a petrol engine, you hit your torque band and start spinning the tires and next thing you know you're stuck.. Another win for EVs.. 😊👍
no! the lockers makesd all the difference and you dont need 300hp to do that! ive seen 100hp old land rovers with triple locks and bigger tires literaly rock crawling.
@@carholic-sz3qv Not a joke. Range & overall functional superority can and are definitively greater with an EV, simply by how efficient solar/wind/wave/pumped hydro is faster, more affordable and more efficient in conversion to mechanical work than oil. Besides carbon & over abundance of waste heat, Diesel is just too expensive & wasteful to produce.
@@idontagree9658 Unfortunately who is going to have massive solar arrays, additional batteries and all the costs of the EV conversion?! Do you even know how much it costs?! People also tend to travel to places like Africa cross forests and other very harsch environments. Diesel is simply better and old diesels can run on vegetable oils.
@@ElectricClassicCars well, pretty much for the same reasons, just regarding your body. And, personally, I avoid making a driving license since years now. Not because I couldn't if I wanted, but because my lungs hurt every other warm and windstill summer from all of the ICE cars, and meanwhile even when standing next to someone refuelling their car. Similarly, any kind of animal products produce the same kind of issue, just a lot worse. So yeah, hence my comment. In both contexts, it's just amazing to get rid of all the pretty harsh and avoidable waste connected to the basics of how each works.
The electric Landy makes it looks so easy! Love it!
Yeah he had three locking diffs so nothing to brag about seriously!

These videos give me life, I love the extended runtime and the detail of certain vehicles we get to see. Thanks Pam! Thanks ECC Team!
Glad you like them!
Great adventure movie Moggy, you are a natural at interviewing people and explaing techy stuff also. Real enjoyed part 1 looking forward to more 👍😎

The electric Landy does very well here. I remember being impressed by Nathan on Great British Menu 2 years ago.
