Yujiro himself said he could not match Oliva during his age. There IS a progression of Yujiro's strength, stated by Baki himself. When Yujiro cheapshotted Doppo when Doppo was drunk, Baki said Yujiro has only gotten stronger since his encounter with Doppo. It's only logical that he's been getting stronger, in order to remain the strongest. Because if his strength plateaued, then others would surpass him and he wouldn't be the strongest anymore. Plus his demon back is basically a cheat code that overrides everything in the story.

When Retsu appeared he defeated Toba who was suposed to be one of the greatest japanese wrestlers and he also 1 hit ko d Katsumi who was hyped to be Doppo level. Also Oliva and Pickle were the bosses in son of ogre besides Yujiro and neither is japanese. In fact Pickle beat Retsu, Katsumi and Jack, 2 of which are Japanese. Indeed Baki dou did some cruel injustice to some characters for the sake of hyping new characters but up to that point I'd say it was all fair. Besides Musashi gave shameful fights to all characters(maybe not Hanayama and of course not Yujiro) japanese or not...indeed Retsu had it the worst bu if the author would've done it out of nationalism, he could've just let Pickle eat him. Not to mention that he let Retsu beat Joe Frazier and Wilbur Bolt and I don't think a nationalistic Japanese person would make a weakened Chinese guy defeat one of the greatest American boxers in history.

It doesn't state that Yujiro is too weak, I don't really see why people always come to that conclusion. He and Oliver seemed equal in comparison and Oliver says something like "I see he is going, to get stronger." He says nothing that indicates Oliver is stronger. It is more likely that he see's Oliver as the closest thing to an equal he has faced and wants them each to reach their full potential.
Imagine being let go from Yujiro to get stronger which foreshadows they will fight in the future but after all that time, you couldn't even beat up his son which is about the same age as yujiro was when being let go to get stronger

In the Bakiverse, there is only one who can be recognised as unchained. If you bring up that name to anyone who ever reads Baki, they will all answer you with “Biscuit Oliva.” You can reason it the way you did, but can’t deny that the voice actors made a mistake

He is similar to Goku in a way, he will sandbag the fight to see what his opponent has. Then he'll either finish them with a non-combat strike (flick to the forehead, tap on the temple ) or he unleashes the demon. He doesn't make the same mistakes Son, Goku does, he finishes fights. He's the antihero. Not a villain.

I dont think that was the case. Yujiro could have won against Oliva for sure at that point. The problem is (in my opinion)...the victory would have weakened Yujiro significantly. And he had a war to fight so i think he played it smart and placed his survival over a battle that he would win but would cost him his life.
