One of the reasons I genuinely love this manga/anime series. Folks lose who you'd never think lose and it shows that simply being strong or skilled isn't enough to win and no wins are guaranteed

One of the things I loves about Kuroki Gensai, is for an OP character he doesn't just one shot people effortlessly. He is defensive and alert and studies the movement of his opponent. He has the sense to block attacks instead of tanking them, and he's not arrogant. He is actually serious. All business, and all martial arts. You can hit him with whatever flashy gimmick you want, he's ready to block and parry and never let's his guard down.

@@cpkeyes1823 I love that about Kengan, they occasionally do that with good guys and underdogs too, like they get you to think they are about to win, and they break your heart instead. Kengan is full of surprises.
He's not OP he's experienced and patient. He also plays smart for a tournament setting, most fighters don't preserve themselves in any way, Seki for example was never going to win

What's also impressive is how humble lihito is... to the man who really put him in his place at that! Most anime fighters would have demanded a rematch or trained to catch up, but he was like, you're better than me and how do I get better? That's inspiring in a way.

I'd like to say writing overpowered and/or broken characters is hard as they get uninteresting quickly but Kuroki Gensai is overpowered done right he is not arrogant but confident, he is ruthless but not bloodthirsty, and he is mild mannered but not bland He's exactly what he needs to be in the kengan verse.
Also you do get a bit of feeling like he earned his broken status rightfully. Not to mention he still gets damaged like with lihito or kiryu unlike other characters who are smug and never get touched in any episode
He is also more of a skill, experience and technical check than a stat check.

Gensai's karate is some of the most beautiful fighting I've ever seen in anime. The cat stance, those parries, always staying in the right distance so that he can parry rather than block, and of course, the spear hand strike.
This is why I like Kengan's 3D animation. The correct movement of bodies through physical 3D space allows for an accurate depiction of martial arts moves, their details and intricacies, at least so far as possible within the context of an exaggerated manga/anime like Kengan.

His karate is based on Uechi Ryu, a Okinawa fighting style of karate. Very old and strong

Gensai is the truth. His experience and knowledge of other martial arts gives him an edge over all the fighters.
Was still a relatively close fight but for the most part over one the opponent can only use the twisting technique effectively with 1 hand

I love that Gensai is not only vastly technically skilled, he's also fucking STRONG. His punches repeatedly crater the ground, his parries hit like baseball bats, and every punch he lands is either a guaranteed knockout or a totally punctured organ or fractured bone. Kengan Ashura is the best fight anime you can watch to me. Some realism with a little bit a fantasy. Great characters with great styles. The animation of the show really brings the fights to life. I can't wait for the rest of the season.

Just like how Gensai made quick work of Lihito, he shows remarkable reaction time for his age. Karate may seem a bit less flashy than everyone else's martial arts in this series but using the right technique at the right time makes all the difference!

I agree. People look down on Karate. But its fundamentals ( whilst properly used ) along with stealth, can be powerful.
Gensai in his youth took part in an exercise where he was holding two massive pots filled with sand with his two hands, and had another guy shoot him with a gun. He successfully raised one of his arms fast enough to block the bullet before it hit his head.

Gensai's focus is top notch. I like Setsuna's appreciation towards Gensai when he pierced his palm. Also awesome to see Setsuna's highly instinctive quick thinking moves and Gensai's game plan to hold his right hand until the perfect moment to counter and being unfazed by blood splatter straight to his eyes is so cool too. Awesome battle.

It particularly goes from annoying to nightmarishly psychotic if you’ve read his backstory in the manga. To call his childhood messed uo is an understatement. His obsession with oh mama isn’t eben a rivalry with heavy homoeroticism but a literal religious fanaticism. He views ohms as this god of war and death whi is the omly one worthy of judging and killing a sinner like himself. But to him niko “tainted his god” by giving some humanity. Then along came the other niki and his use of his a technique that damages the wielder’s psyche,on a guy who’s already a mental case? Not a good combination

I liked how irritated he was when Ohma defeated Raian with the Niko style instead relying the "Advance" which he views as Ohma's true self. I did kinda read that Setsuna orchestrated Niko's death in order to get Niko out of the way & so Ohma would forgo the Niko style, but even in death, Niko continues to thwart Setsuna. "Niko Tokita! Why do you always get in my way?"

@@CalmLake-ge3dh Personally I believe so, after seeing all Fangs fights majority of them were with very experienced fighters don’t get me wrong, but Kuroki to me has deadly strikes that end a fight quicker. Though Fang is beyond resilient.

I thought it would,but in the manga the moves looked more powerful
I actually liked that effect in the manga. It made Kiryu seem very dangerous, and also showed how skillful kuroki really is. This fight just kinda seems one sided.

honestly the top tier's of kengan can definitely fight the mid range fighter's of baki only guy's like yujiro, baki, mushashi and pickle, etc would be impossible to take down imo.
