I love the idea of using tubing. I hadn't thought of that but it makes perfect sense. And even though I don't have a drywell access I think I can use my rod holder openings for this purpose, if not a little more challenging. Thanks for a great helpful video.
Thanks great tip on sliding foot brace as far forward as you want it to turn, I'm quite sure you probably saved me some time adjusting the braces. I just finished putting in the 1/4" irrigation tubbing in my yak tonight, just have to fish the cable tomorrow. I couldn't get the string thru more than a foot or so, so I'm just using thin wire cable. Fish on!
Nice video. When you are screwing in the foot steering brace are you screwing straight into the plastic? How does it hold? It seems like there would be a lot of force on those screws to hold in plastic. Thanks
Straight into the plastic. It has held up pretty well with a year of use. I’ve done it a little differently on my rig for this year and will have a video on it in a few days. I mounted the foot braces on the Hrail this time.
You could probably still use the bottom one on each side the way I have it rigged up. You can also mount your pedals above the gunnel and keep full access to them. I personally have never used the horizontal rod holders. I keep a couple rods beside me but they lay up on top and the rest are verticals in the crate.
I’m still using it the same way. I may raise where I have my foot steering a little to help with steering while standing but I don’t want them on top since I lay my rods there.

Glad it helped. I like the idea of the tubing keeping the lines from getting hung on stuff
Solid work Wade thanks for the breakdown on this much needed upgrade to my boat
Glad to help

Awesome. Thanks for the feedback. Good luck out there.
Good video! Good luck with the Hobie event this weekend.
Thanks. Yesterday was a bit of a struggle but today was great.
Very helpful. Thanks for the great content.

Should have run the tubing closer to the pedal. They have 30 degree ports for the exit of the tubing at the pedals.
I’m aware of those. I didn’t want anything else run in the gunnel where the rudder cables are
Hey Wade, what’s that trailer you kayak is sitting on?? I’ve been looking for one, I’m about to build my own.
Thanks
It’s made by Tennessee trailer
Are you able to use the horizontal rod storage while using the foot steering?

How can I attach that steering triangle to my motor if it doesn’t clamp on does it slide on because the head of my trolling motor is very big
The steering triangle slides over the shaft. It’s made specifically for the Newport motor
@@garrettwadefishing thank you Garrett for your response
No problem
Great vid!! Question, where did you get your fish finder bar mount?
It’s just a short Hobie hrail with the hrail mounting plates.
Is this still the same setup you use or after some time on the water did you, or would you make some adjustments somewhere?
I’m still using it the same way. I may raise where I have my foot steering a little to help with steering while standing but I don’t want them on top since I lay my rods there.
