When I saw that McKayla was number 2, I thought: "Who can _possibly_ do vault better than her?" but then I saw the actual number 1. She really did that.
I'm an American but I definitely think that Produnova has definitely earned the top-spot title for her INCREDIBLY difficult vault, and like many others have noted, it's much more dangerous that an Amanar. I think those who are supporting McKayla are trying to say that she preforms a very common vault much better than many others. She has good form and can stick the landing, a hard thing to do with a blind landing, but since Produnova does her vault like no other, she's #1.

Elliot Madar : Love McKayla’s form in the air, but to my knowledge, she stuck that landing only once in competition. She tended to take a step forward as did many who performed the Amanar. McKayla looked majestic in the air, yet I wonder how the comparison with Simone persuaded you to rank her higher than Simone ? Simone’s air was almost perfect, not as great as McKayla’s, however Simone perfected her landing so she stuck her landings or had the slightest of hops. She rarely took the big step like McKayla. No shade on McKayla...she stuck that landing when it counted most-during the team competition at the Olympics.

Produnova is the only person that has adequately performed the Produnova. Others have come close, but her form is far and away the best.

I was so confused when McKayla was second, but I had forgotten about Produnova. She’s amazing at her vault, I wish Dipa could do it that well too!
from someone who knows nothing about the sport the 2nd place vault looked the best it was amazing it looked graceful and elegant and effortless 1st place looked more difficult but less polished
Corry Lorenzo Stewat me being a gymnast myself of course the hard skill will look unpolished if you don't know what a stick landing for each trick is re reason she got 1st is because the move is named after her and she one out of maybe 3 or 4 people that can do it and stick every time makayla got 2nd because she did the same vault Simone did which is not as high as the girl in 1stk

That's basically correct. McKayla Maroney's vault, #2, is beautiful. The Produnova vault, #1, however, is so difficult that I think only one other woman has managed to do it without falling, let alone landing it cleanly as Produnova does here. Part of the reason it doesn't look polished is that it basically requires having the legs to the sides of the torso to minimize the moment of inertia so that one can get the required rotations, rather than together in front of the body in a normal tuck position. Personally Maroney's vault is my favorite of all time, but I favor execution over difficulty; given the current judging balance, I can see Produnova's being higher ranked. I would be interested in an analysis of which involved a higher center of mass at the peak; I've seen a video superimposing Maroney's over a male medalist which showed that Maroney got almost two feet higher.

I remember the pre Yurchenko days and my coach saying a handspring front somi was the most difficult vault possible.

Our first vaulting horse at school (I trained at school in terrible facilities but our coach was the Olympic coach) was an old men's pommel horse, possibly actually covered in horse skin- yuk- with the pommels removed.
The UPB were some weird hard, inflexible composite material and they split eventually. The flexible replacements- heaven!
Mindrolling it's true! look at the vaults from '76 Olympics. they are what? level 4 or 5 today? lol. I don't think anyone dreamt of a back handspring yet. I can't remember for the life of me what our original vault looked like. but these kids these days with tumble tracks, spring floors, safer vault tables and more padded beans have no idea how good they have it! lol.
I just love Elena's pure joy at landing her vault.

Dominic Robertson 04 event finals, that will be the best that vault will ever be performed.
Dominic Robertson Produnova landed on her vault like no other. Dragulescu had been executed well by Vernaiev.

This list is very accurate, but it's also a statement about the staleness of modern-era gymnastics in general that they're all Yurchenko style vaults and are all Amanars with the exception of Prudonova.
It's an indication that the difficulty scores are off or are overemphasized.
Mckayla execution was brilliant but produnova is so difficult and so beautifully done... So produnova might not look like an awesome vault but the doer knows
My internet died literally when McKayla Maroney was completely horizontal in the air XD I find this rather amusing.
That exact mckayla maroney vault is the definition of perfection.
While I appreciate the difficulty of Produnova's vault, her execution was mediocre. That vault is just about impossible to perform without cowboy legging but even still, I found McKayla's vault to be superior. Great list though.
i can't get over the cowboy legs. i'm a dancer, so appearance means a lot to me. Amazing and terrifying vault though. McKayla flew in hers the same height as men!

You need to understand that only 5 women till date are able to perform produnova at minimum threshold level and this performance of elena was divine.
You need to look other 4 women who did produnova to appreciate elena.
i think produnova should be 3 simone 2 and mckayla 1
it was "best vaults" not most difficult, you have to take form into consideration just because its hard doesnt mean its the best

You know what's also very impressive, and I know it's not very difficult, but Keri Strugg landing a 1.5 Yurchenko on 1 FOOT. That's quite impressive. Even though the difficulty isn't there, that's extremely hard to do considering there's all that pressure on your feet.
Maroney ends that vault looking like Winged Victory at Samothrace. Gorgeous to see.

I’ve been told slightly off center, slight leg separation before the vault, may not hv completely stuck the landing

They counted it as a stick because she was able to salute to the judges right after she landed
I suggest Anna Pavlova 2004 Athens Olympics vault. It is wonderfully executed and the English commentators in the video are good ( and she is a nice looking girl too, age 17 at the time 😊 ). Not as difficult a skill as Prudunova but if I had to choose an exemplary exercise this would be it. Watch it and see what you think.

I bet McKayla could do a 3.5 on vault if she worked SUPER hard. In her floor routine, it's so polished and clean, and it's not easy either, but I think if she really works she could do it.
mckayla will always be my favorite on vault
I reckon the Produnova should still be number one, simply because if you get it the slightest bit wrong you're either paralyzed or in a coffin. It is nicknamed the Death Vault, perhaps it should be the Are You Fucking Insane Vault
I have to say, I didn't think I'd every put anyone above Mulroney. Her vault literally looked like a video game recording where everything was perfection. But for Produnova to flip 3 times before landing, and landing on her feet. I mean, I have to give it to her. I realized she hopped at the end where as Mulroney didn't, but 3 flips forward has got to be so much harder then Mulroney's vault. Again it comes down to a subjective call, but I agree with you on your list. And even if I didn't, as you said it's an opinion, but darn hard to argue against your opinion.

Out of the 4 apparatus, vault really just makes physics come alive (to me at least). It translates horizontal velocity into vertical. Very cool
Only Americans would think McKayla's superior. The number one spot is well deserved as it is the most difficult vault for women. You can die by executing it and only five gymnasts have been able to do so. Good for Produnova.
Fernando Cázares People say McKayla due to her execution,not because she is American. Produnova's was incredibly difficult but execution lacked. Some people prefer cleanliness over difficulty.

You can die regardless of any of these moves if you land it wrong.
Fernando Cázares everyone always says you can die by trying a produnova but you can literally die by anything in gymnastics if you fall badly. If it was that dangerous people would’ve died in practice before they made it to the olympics. They have mats for a reason.
Although I’ve watched many fantastic gymnasts attempt and successfully land Produnovas eponymous skill - the height and speed with which she does the skill is unmatched in every performance I’ve seen of her.

Nellie Kim’s vault that scored a perfect 10 at Montreal in 1976 is still my favourite vault, but boy hasn’t the sport moved on since then

I'd have thought that Maroney would get the top spot but ... yeah Elena Produnova is like the Bob Beamon of vault. She'll keep that #1 spot for a long, long time.
While produnova's was extremely difficult, it wasn't performed nicely enough look as good as a "perfect" amanar
In 2017 the D-score for the Produnova vault was reduced to 6.4 ? It should be at least 7.0 . It's called a double front somersault , but it looks like she goes around three times. McKayla Maroney's vault was awesome but I can see why Produnova's vault might be considered higher.

elena had a beautiful vault, but the hop on the landing meant her execution was lower. given the criteria listed at the beginning, makayla should have been 1, even though the judges robbed her of a 16.5
No the first vault is way harder then the Amanar. For her to do tbat vault so well is amazing. That’s why she’s #1

What IS true is that it is absolutely unfortunate that someone who was as consistent as McKayla, including at some HUGE international events, bowed to the pressure of the Olympics. She "should" have won gold like everyone expected her to, but not based on her actual performance at the Olympics.
She would have if she hadn't botched her second vault. That's all on her. Still, with a terrible second vault and to get silver is nothing to snub at either.
I mean, the reason she got silver is because it wasn't a terrible second vault. It was just a terrible landing.
The vault that Simone did was amazing but I think it was also the year that she fell on her floor routine quite badly :(

Simone Biles!!! Always amazing amplitude...of course she can land well. The higher you are off the floor, the sooner you can spot the floor so as to land well. Simone flies! Makayla's 'retired' - unsure what she's doing now - from gymnastics, but she will GO DOWN as one of THE BEST!!!! I give Produnova credit for difficulty, but Maroney is virtually motionless with "sticky feet" - term used by the girls for being able to "stick" to the mat for a landing....

With respect to amplitude, both Produnova and Maroney get substantially higher in altitude than Biles - by at least a foot. Biles is lucky to be third on this list.

I agree with u on all but Yelena whom I'm a huge fan just bc she was best st forward landing skills which she is known to preferred due to ankle and feet problem (however she also preferred forward elements bc she had better air awareness going forward than backwards. I think its bc she was soooo powerful it was harder for her to control, she had alot of height and rotating power In her fwd tumbling think how much she probably got going backwards..((Bet she could easily triple into the pit.) Anyaay that's the only one I dont agree with however I do believe she belongs on the list just not number 1 yes her vault is crazy hard but its also a speciality vault great vaulter are normally great at ot hff er vaults as well. Yelena whom I adore has a great vault that captured all her special qualities - great air and body warmers going forward- powerful and fast grear run unbelievable block.. the perfect ingredients for that vault..
Not to knock her I Adore Yelena she is one of my all time fav .I adore her style' she was powerful and sassy she showed a different side of Russian gymnastics one of personal style and personality. Her coaches didnt try to make her into a elegant pixie gymnast.. the emphasize her power and fierceness in her cherograpy helping her to stand out ..Her cherography was just like her vault (anyone couldnt pull it off her style of dance was sassy, powerful and look at me kind of routine) it took personality. It's the one thing I truly miss in Russian gymnastics they nolonger have that attention to detail on everthing .if u dont agree look back at the Sydney Olympic that was the last time that the entire team had that attention to detail in their cherograpy we have had flashes since like Anna Pavlova whom I LOVE but it's no the same watching the juniors I saw alot more of that great Russian cherography very musical. But it's not the same at the senior they do alot of spins but the musicality isnt the same .

Bc Produnova herself has been the only one to execute the Produnova. While 2 1/2 twist has been performed by many.

Cheng Fei is one of the few Chinese gymnasts who was excellent on vault and floor. The second vault that the likely top 3 in the vault event finals in Rio will do is named for her, which she debuted in 2005.

I don’t think people understand that produnova had an advantage because of the vault height, and how the vault was set. If she did the same thing on the new vault table, she would have sat it down. McKayla Maroney was hands down the best vault, and she will forever be the GOAT.

on the same level as previous gymnasts from a long time ago in my opinion. I wish they were still just as good. I miss that kind of action. There's still some that do some of the amazing stuff, but over all, not really.
