Shaking a cocktail causes the ice to break down more quickly, resulting in greater dilution. For an operative, this means having a watered-down drink, helping maintain sharp senses while still enjoying the experience.
As the first James Bond movie, "Dr. No" didn't have the huge budget of the later Bond movies. They had to see how it would go, and when it went very, very well, the later movies had much bigger budgets. Sean Connery will always be the ultimate James Bond, even though he didn't really like the role, he thought it was limiting. Ursula Andress was also the original Bond Girl, and set the standard for exotic beauty and vulnerability.
I always loved the way Bond got his signature line "Bond...James Bond" by mimicking Sylvia Trench's introduction "Trench...Sylvia Trench." As for the "shaken, not stirred" preference, there's a scene in "You Only Live Twice" in which someone offers Bond a martini and says "Stirred, not shaken...yes?" and Bond, to be polite, accepts this as correct. In "Casino Royale", a very agitated Bond hastily orders a martini, and when the bartender asks "Shaken, not stirred?" Bond snaps, "Do I look like I give a damn?"
Penny, this was what I call a primitive version of the James Bond "formula". The movies get more entertaining with each one. There are debates if each is better or worse than the last one, but they are almost all universally fun.
Chemin de fer: French card game played mainly in European and Latin American casinos. The game derives from the Italian card game baccarat, differing from it in that players bet one at a time against each other instead of against the house.
Dr. No is the first Bond-movie in what is called the EON (official) series, but it is actually NOT the very first Bond-movie. The first movie (made for TV) was CASINO ROYALE in 1954. Thus, Connery also is not the first Bond-actor, but Barry Nelson.
Its a cool movie which led to the character still being in movies today. With old movies I always enjoy seeing the hairdos, the way they dressed, the cars, the use of lighting and camera work as well
After your Goldeneye posting you mentioned you might go 'back' and check out some other Bond flicks, I didn't think you would do it so fast and go right the the beginning, this is so welcomed. And as you said, yes, it is an "evolution" that will happen; each one building and building. "Never on company time" is still one of my favourite Bond lines... just showing his sarcasm/wit and commitment to 'king and country' 😂
23:15 fear not, beautiful Italian lady, I was in the US Navy on submarines! And of course I wear the "silver dolphins" meaning I am "Qualified in Submarines." Our submarines, like those of France and Britain, are nuclear powered! Soapy water will wash contamination off the body. Even just water will work, although soap helps to remove things. The idea is that you are washing off bits of soil and particulate matter that may be radioactive. Of course, this will not help with anything you might have inhaled. 🙂
From Russia With Love is a big step up from this one Penny, better action, villain, story and cinematography, definitely worth a reaction. Looking forward to your next video.
The special effects in 60's movies took a HUGE leap with the movie "2001" in '68. Then again with "Star Wars" in '77. And I'm STILL impressed with the robot from the silent movie "Metropolis" all the way back to 1927. There have been a LOT of very ingenious special effects people throughout movie history. You can create a lot of images you can't see in real life with CGI, but those practical effects from the past are still impressive to me.
Loved your reactions. It's pretty good film for the first of the series. Maybe of interest, the photographer girl was Marguerite LeWars. She was Miss Jamaica in the 1961 Miss Universe Pageant. Very pretty lady. Keep 'em coming. It's a fantastic journey through all those films. As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.
Thanks for this enjoyable video. I must say that young people cannot really understand how exotic and wish-fulfilling these movies were. Even the tarantula scene was more terrifying because it was before we were all pseudo experts on everything. I'm afraid you might find some of them a bit of a chore, but "Goldfinger" and "The Spy Who Loved Me" are generally considered the pick of the pre-modern ones. ❤️
Great reaction Penny! I really love the James Bond movies! I am glad you liked this one. I am Glad you are watching more of them! Best wishes always!! 🙂❤
Though rather 'tame' by today's standards. At a time of quite rare foreign travel, Bond showed us exotic locations and equally exotic women. Add to that, a 'hidden' world of espionage, and it's little surprise that Bond became an instant hit. ; )
You hit the nail on the head. Someone not from the era wouldn't realize that part of the adventure was seeing places that many people had never been. International travel wasn't as common, especially for the average person, and the settings were just as thrilling to many as the action. Also, the older movies are a bit more like the books, with the intrigue, investigation and story development. The non stop over the top action came in later movies. I kind of feel like For Your Eyes Only was one of the last of the deeper Bond movies with a lot of exotic locations and a real investigation.
Haven't seen this movie in decades!! The third guy who ended up telling James about the Chinese is Jack Lord. He had a TV series called HAWAII FIVE- 0 (OH). and his on going enemy was a Chinese man named Wo Fat!! Great Reaction Penny! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼
I hope you'll watch them all. It's a journey not only through the movie techniques and formats through the decades, but also how they adapted the novels from the 50s and 60s cold war to more modern settings and politics. And the big question will be who your favourite Bond is. Mine is (young) Connery. Very conventional. But my second choice is the unpopular George Lazenby. He was Bond in only one movie that wasn't very popular. But I blame the movie, both script and finished product. But it's a very important chapter in James Bond's character development, so don't you dare skip it. Both Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan are good, but way too old when they actually got to play the part. Moore could have worked if he had been chosen from the start instead of Connery. And Brosnan had been perfect when he played Remington Steele in the early 80s. I guess the role was somewhat of an "honour" that the actors had to deserve, but by the time most did they were too old.
I've been thinking about it. Maybe a patreon pole for one or two movies per James bond actor should be adequate. The next guy only had the one, and you are totally right... There are a ton of these. Ones that I've never even heard of. You'd never finish.
As the first movie in the series, this had a fairly low budget. If you keep watching the Connery movies you will see Goldfinger (the 3rd one) which was a worldwide block buster. It happens to be my favorite.
Just finished your video, first one of yours I have seen! You are very beautiful 😍 and have an exotic accent! 😍 I am glad you speak excellent English, as I do not speak Italian hardly at all! 😃 Have you been on a cruise with Costa, the famous Italian cruise line? I want to go with them on a med cruise someday. I am drawn to them because they use the Italian flag rather than a "flag of convenience". 🙂 I have seen every single James Bond movie....you are right, the pacing does get more "modern" with each movie! I hope you will watch more of them, and also Star Trek and Star Wars 🙂
This isn't the best Bond movie, but it's the closest to the character in the books. That James Bond is smart, but also a cold-blooded killer who eliminates any potential enemy using his, "license to kill."
Great review Penny!!....Another great Sean Connery, James Bond movie worth watching and reviewing is "From Russia with Love." (1963). It has lots of action, an excellent plot and fits well into the political climate of the time!
Hi Penny, If you ever want to watch some black and white movies, I'd like to recommend both, "Casablanca" and "It’s a Wonderful Life." 1942 & 1946. "It's a Wonderful Life" is a Christmas movie. One of the best.
If you want to watch them all, I'm with you. The quality can be a bit uneven, but it's a lot of movies, so that's to be expected. When they started this, I'm sure they had no idea they'd end up making so many films and over so many years. As for old films, the oldest film I can recommend for you is "The Wizard of Oz" (1939).
Hello Penny! Ha! The spider saying it "enjoyed the night together". I attended university in U.S. and one morning, my friends and I explored a cave. Had to climb down into a crevice to get to the entrance, which was long and so narrow we had to expel all of the air out of our bodies to slip through. Once inside, our flashlights showed it to be beautiful. Colorful stalagmites and stalactites. And the ceiling? Not so beautiful. Wall to wall Black Widow spiders. Hundreds. We chipped rock in our wake hurrying out of there. Ian Fleming (author of the Bond novels) had an estate in Jamaica called "Goldeneye". And Goldfinger is where movie Bond began to hit his stride. All of the elements that would inform the rest of the movies.
Penny, for many From Russia with Love is the best Bond movie in Sean Connery's era, but for many others Goldfinger is the Everest for Connery as James Bond. From Russia with Love has an Alfred Hitchcock's atmosphere. On the other hand, Goldfinfer is by far the most important movie in the entire franchise because established the formula for the saga. With these movie James Bond became and icon of the popular culture and Connery became a super star. But if you are looking action, you must watch Thunderball or You Only Live Twice.
Sean Connery is rather legendary. First for the early Bond roles, but later more diverse characters. Here are three you must watch at some point: "The Rock" with Connery and Nicholas Cage "The Hunt For Red October" with a host of stars " Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" which is the 3rd in the series about Indiana Jones. However watch the first two in the series first.
Don't forget Sir Sean's bit and voice work either. Draco in Dragonheart or King Richard III in the end of Robin Hood (that was parodied by Sir Patrick in Mel's version)
Great video! I think many would say that Goldfinger (1965) is the best one or most famous Sean Connery, James Bond movie. 🤔 Also, almost all the female characters in James Bond movie has those unique & funny names on purpose, one name trying to outdo the others, with every movie. Honey Ryder. 🤭 Maybe Pussy Galore takes the price from, Goldfinger movie. 😅 I think Xenia Onatopp would be my pick. 🤫
As some others have said, IMHO the best Connery James Bond movie by FAR is Goldfinger, followed by Thunderball in second place. Many people like From Russia with Love as well, but I personally find that one a bit slow, even for a movie of this period, although I will admit the plot of it was very good. I was a very young boy in the early 70s when these movies were regularly shown on ABC on Sunday nights in the states and I have very fond memories of watching them with my parents.
From Russia with Love and Goldfinger are must with major introductions. Don't want to say more for spoilers and I do like Thunderball as well but One per Bond will fail you in understanding. If you must skip, Dalton is the easiest to skip with Lazenby on rewatches. (Lazenby is the least popular Bond but is a critical point in Bond's timeline that is history for the return of Sir Sean, all of Sir Rodger and Timothy Dalton) The fact the two longest running Bonds get knighted should tell you how key they are to all the film industry. Without Bond there would be no giant film stage in the UK (Pinewood Studios) that would be used for things like Star Wars, Close Encounters and many others. The famous 007 stage has been used for many films and even had to be rebuilt do to fire nearly bankrupting a film company responsible. Also Bond would create enormous public outcry when Eon Productions chose to film outside the UK for UK bits when the economics were bad spurring political change in the UK. I won't tell you to watch every film but just that it is a huge disservice to pick a top film here and there with such an ongoing franchise. Goldeneye was the first soft reboot and D. C. a hard reboot starting with the beginning of Bond. BTW there is one bond film that predates the franchise that in B&W covers Casino Royale and why it was not done first was the rights to that lone novel were sold only to be reunited with the franchise decades later with the second generation fully in charge as the original Producers and Ian Fleming (the writer) had by that point all passed. The daughter and step son of the Producer Albert R. Broccoli is now in charge. If you dive deep you will find that Bond is a sort of a family business with many interwoven relationships and at least a few members of the royal family as well. One filling in for M later and an actress in the Moore era are both cousins once in the top 20 list for the crown, the later even taking part in a dangerous stunt herself in a spinning double decker bus. Honestly I would rather you not do Bond at all if you do less than half the Connery era. You can't do a valid book review without reading the book and each movie is like a chapter. Any teacher would fail you for a book report based on single chapters.
Great reaction Penny!! 007 Would play numerous games like Gin Rummy, Craps, Sic Bo, Backgammon and Blackjack, but the most recognisable one of all is Baccarat. 26:39:- Spectre is a criminal organisation. Penny, if you are only watching one movie of each actor that played Bond, may I suggest the following: George Lazenby - 'On Her Majestice's Secret Service', Roger Moore - 'The Spy Who Loved me', Timothy Dalton - 'The Living Daylights', (You already did my favourite Piece Brosnan Bond - 'Golden Eye', and Daniel Craig - 'Casino Royale'. But, if you are going the whole nine yards, then I'm looking forward to more of your content!! Please do 'Aliens (Special Edition) - 1986', 'Equilibrium - 2002' and 'Taken - 2008 (Extended Version)'.
People had less distraction back then, so they could concentrate on a slow build. By the time of Goldeneye, people had cable, video games, and the dawn of the internet. Movies had to grab you and hold you.
If you want to be a real stickler, this isn't the absolute first Bond movie. They made a TV movie of the first published James Bond novel Casino Royale before this one (1954), but they changed a lot so it's not worth watching really. This is where the long lived franchise started. Also, they made a Bond parody in 1967 called Casino Royale. And in 2006 they made a "real" Bond movie based on it. And this is when I lost interest in the series. It could have worked if they straight out made a reboot at that point, but instead it was James Bond's first mission even though he was well established and obviously had experience in the organization. It got quite messed up. But then again, they have spent over 50 years with bad adaptations of Ian Fleming's work when trying to fit them into contemporary settings and views. So just watch it as fun entertainment and don't take it as serious as I sometimes do. It's probably much more enjoyable.
It's not spoling any plots to say that Italy does appear as a location if a few of the movies, but I don't think it really appears properly until Casino Royale, and the Moonraker appearance is so ridiculous.
Venice appears in the second Bond movie, "From Russia with Love", but also in "Moonraker", and Casino Royale". Cortina appears in "For Your Eyes Only", and Rome appears in "Spectre". I might have missed some.
Oh dear me. When it's 3 A.M. it means three hours after midnight (A.M. is Latin for 'ante meridiem').So 3 P.M. is early afternoon (P.M. means 'post meridiem'). Doesn't Italians understand Latin?
I meant it as "the night is still young at 3am for someone like James Bond". Understanding Latin is not really necessary, I learnt how hours work in English in first grade 😅
Well, comparing Dr. No with Goldeneye is difficult, because gradually the movies would become more action than spy. Also, the evolution of the series is uneven. The movies usually get more and more over the top and then there is a more serious reboot. It is interesting that almost everyone has at least 2 "unpopular" opinions in their favorite bond movie list, usually ranking a popular entry low and ranking a not so popular entry high. In my case, my "unpopular" opinions is that I don't like Skyfall that much and I love The World is Not Enough
As always a great reaction! “Dr. No” is the first Bond film and deserves much respect, but not among the best (IMHO) . . . for the reasons you mentioned. It does set up Connery’s bond as very charming and sophisticated, but really and brutally deadly too. He’ll charm you with a wink of the eye poolside as he strangles an enemy agent with a towel. You may have chosen the red dress, but the purple really pops!!! Very Advent-esque!!! Best regards! 😉👍
Personally, I think the most James Bond of them all is Roger Moore. Sean Connery is right behind him. The rest I don’t see as James Bond, especially the latest guy Daniel Craig, he may be my least favorite of them all. But definitely check out Roger Moore as Bond.
Another great video, Penny. Also, iirc the Sean Connery James Bond don't really pick up on the action scenes until Goldfinger/Thunderball. Both which are great watch. Looking forward to you reacting to other James Bond movies for each actor. As each actor adds something different to the franchise.
There is a shop where "reactors" bought their stuff ? Because i swear, they all have the same kinda of shit in the background. Damn they even speak all alike.

Shaking a cocktail causes the ice to break down more quickly, resulting in greater dilution. For an operative, this means having a watered-down drink, helping maintain sharp senses while still enjoying the experience.

My favorite old school Bond film is ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE.

fear not, beautiful Italian lady, I was in the US Navy on submarines! And of course I wear the "silver dolphins" meaning I am "Qualified in Submarines." Our submarines, like those of France and Britain, are nuclear powered! Soapy water will wash contamination off the body. Even just water will work, although soap helps to remove things. Yes it has Quint from Jaws in it. The legendary Robert Shaw of course.
17:58 Ice cold movie scene.
The Connery Films do get better big budgets , more sets , more action, and some really great stories. Great reaction as always Penny Dear.

Pick the red one says purple Penny!! Lol Fun reaction Penny, your one liners are the best! I look forward to the next one, whatever it may be...
13:25 Penny vs Spider 🕷
Funny story Sean Connery hated spiders too, so they had to put a glass window between him and the crawling spider scene. 😅
The first four Bond movies are my favorites with the third, “Goldfinger” easily my favorite of all. Good job, Penny (Penne? heh.)… keep it up.
I have a video of me getting to visit some of the filming locations for this movie. Jamaica was so cool!! I'm always happy to see blooming Bond fans!
Great reaction Penny! I really love the James Bond movies! I am glad you liked this one. I am Glad you are watching more of them! Best wishes always!! 🙂❤

PART II 😁 Yes. Big difference between this and Golden Eye. About 33 years. Didn't know Dr No came out the year that I was born! ☮️
The second 007 film with Sean Connery is "From Russia with Love". To me, each new Bond film was better than the last.
I've been thinking about it. Maybe a patreon pole for one or two movies per James bond actor should be adequate. The next guy only had the one, and you are totally right... There are a ton of these. Ones that I've never even heard of. You'd never finish.

Both the cars at the start were Chevrolets. The black convertible was a '57, the one tailing it was a more current, early sixties Impala.
Whoa. That’s an old classic movie. Nice one
Awesome! I can't wait! I say Dr Yes to Dr No!
I'd love to hear you say "We need to get moose and squirrel".
Great review Penny!!....Another great Sean Connery, James Bond movie worth watching and reviewing is "From Russia with Love." (1963). It has lots of action, an excellent plot and fits well into the political climate of the time!
2:15 Penny first time meeting Bond, James Bond. 😊
Great reaction video, hope you watch all the Bond movies in order 👍💓💯
Hi Penny,
If you ever want to watch some black and white movies, I'd like to recommend both, "Casablanca" and "It’s a Wonderful Life." 1942 & 1946.
"It's a Wonderful Life" is a Christmas movie. One of the best.
You should react to the old G.I. Joe cartoons from the 80s. You'd make a perfect Baroness. Cooobraaa! 😄

@PennyisWatching The tourist-y caves with paved paths and lights and a guide are MUCH better! The beauty without the bugs! =)

I don't remember much about Dragonheart since I watched it when I was a little kid, but I do remember crying my eyes out 😅
When you get to Daniel Craig's Casino Royale, you'll understand and get the name of his signiture drink.
The ''Chemin de Fer'' is a game similar to Baccarat.
Hope you end up watching the rest of the Bond films as they are timeless classics
Great video!

Also tubi is a free movie channel if available in your part of the world I would think that it would be
Great reaction Penny!!
At Le Circle they are playing baccart or Chemin de fer in the French speaking world.
It was/is good enough to start a major franchise! Sean Connery IS James Bond.
Hey Penny are you running you voice through a filter?? Wow so deep....🧐
you described it perfectly 👍 as time goes on, you will see how bond and the movies change 😉 LOVED your reaction, thank you! 😁
I much prefer the Roger Moore Bonds. I like the humor and all the crazy stunts.
Did anyone keep count on how many women Bond went "fishing" with? 🎣
I kind of lost count. 😑
You have an interesting accent, Penny. May I ask where you're from?
I'm Italian!
Cool! I'm an American of Italian ancestry myself!
The card game (Railroad, in English) is similar to blackjack, but the best hand is a 9, 10's don't count.
Chemin de Fer, a form of Blackjack!
he was 31 then
You just don't understand the first movie is on a budget after popularity big budget bigger action that's the way things work 😊
As always a great reaction!
I think Dr. No is Chinese and German according to James Bond Wiki. It’s an old movie so
Another great video, Penny.
Also, iirc the Sean Connery James Bond don't really pick up on the action scenes until Goldfinger/Thunderball. Both which are great watch.
Looking forward to you reacting to other James Bond movies for each actor. As each actor adds something different to the franchise.
cmon james...get it together james...
Actually the best way to remove external radiation contamination IS just soap and water! And are you related to the guy from Portugal?
Chevy Bel Air and Impala
Started the great spy movie craze of the 60's and beyond along with launching Sean Connery to superstardom. Even in 1962 he was bald!
Penny is old Russian name ....means I love purple.

Skipping the gunbarrel in the reaction was a choice.
Watch all until Diamonds are Forever, THEN watch Austin Powers!!!
There is a shop where "reactors" bought their stuff ? Because i swear, they all have the same kinda of shit in the background.
Damn they even speak all alike.
Both are Chevrolets.
Tarantulas look scary but there not very venomous.
They are very ugly though 🫣 (they probably think the same when they see a human)
@@PennyisWatching They should. Humans are much more dangerous.
Glad you are liking the IP. You are going to enjoy watching how it evolves for sure
Rammstein James Bond lol
He did look like Till Lindemann 😂
Penny is my dream woman 😊
Oh dear me. Quite the opposite for me.
I saw her first! 😉😁
Great Reaction 👍👍👍
