Penny, as a "child of the 60s", I wish I could explain Bond movies... Mostly, they are a Macho spy during Cold War that was an anti-authority rogue, a cad, that reflected a Western male value (mostly European) of taking back "male dominance/male-breadwinner" social characteristic lost during WWII when women becme industrial workers, drivers, storekeepers, & even Intellegence Officers & spies (Bletchley Park, Arlington,VA & Hawaii) because inducting all the men as troops. In some ways, Bond is a chauventistic womanizer as the Post-war male, AND IN TURN THIS IS THE AGE OF THE NEW MODERN WOMAN THAT IS OPEN TO MANY AFFAIRS WITH MANY MEN AT SAME TIME.... Bond was big part of how a guy should be in the "s_ ual revolution".
Harlem Nights -Eddie Murphy 2. Bait-Jamie Foxx 3. American Gangster Denzel Washington 4. Four Brothers- Mark walberg 5. Ransom- Mel Gibson 6. Kiss the Girls- Morgan Freeman 7. Money Talks- Chris Tucker 8. Fallen-Denzel Washington 9. Poetic Justice- 2pac, Janet Jackson 10. Blue Streak- Martin Lawrence
So there is another movie with Robert Shaw in it that is *must* watch. It was written by the same guy who wrote Jaws. Came out 2 years after Jaws, and is a deep sea adventure, like Jaws, and it is good! But you have never heard about it (unless you were around in the 70s.) That's all I'm divulging..someone be the first reactor to react to it!
In the novel, Bond is fighting SMERSH, an actual Soviet organization during the Cold War. Ian Fleming had worked for British intelligence. The book opens with an exact description of a Kremlin meeting room.
29:58 fun fact that cat was not in any of the books they add that cat to the movie so they can have a reason to zoom in on his hands since they wanted to keep that characters face hidden however the actor playing the Hans and the actor playing the voice are two different people and they would only stay in this role for three movies.
@ I bet if you had one in 2025 you would be happy, If i remember correctly in 63 they cost somewhere around $30. Today in good condition or better I see they are going for $300 to $400 on Ebay!
I've been to Venice at least 6 times, and it feels exotic even to an Italian 😂definitely not a standard city...but it feels like home because part of my family comes from very close to it
Fun fact this is the last movie the author of the books watched before his passing away and he actually said he like this one better than the first movie since it was more faithful to his book.
@ I just hope you enjoy it as much as most others. I’m eager to watch you react to it and find out your take. Either way, your mission to watch the Bond films is full on fun! 😉👍
It's commendable that you're committed to watching these early Bond movies. Compared to today's movies, they may seem tame, at the time, however, they were a glimpse into an elusive world. Exotic locations, equally exotic women, espionage, murder, intrigue. Before the likes of UA-cam, streaming, etc, the cinema was THE way to get a glimpse into this 'other' world. Loving your reactions, Penny but, I swear, I could view a blank screen with your reaction. Your outrageous, flamboyant accent mesmerises me. Keep it up. ; )
It's a little hard for me to think of a world without internet! I'm so used to be able to search far away locations and be able to see photos and videos so easily 😂
Fun fact this is based on the fifth novel in the book series with the first movie based on the six novel meaning they had to do a few rewrites to make this a sequel not a prequel plus to remove references from previous books.
Hello Penny, nice to see you!😊 "Goldfinger" is one of the most popular Sean Connery films in the James Bond franchise.🏆 Great reactions to this well made Bond film with a good plot and plenty of action, Penny!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Lotte Lenya, who played Colonel Klebb, was married to composer Kurt Weill, who is perhaps best known for Die Dreigroeschenoper (Threepenny Opera), which features the song "Mackie Messer," better known in the English-speaking world in its various forms as "Mack the Knife." It's a bit complicated, but they divorced in 1933, and Weill fled Germany because he was Jewish. (And although she wasn't Jewish, Lenya left Germany as well.) After a stint in Paris, they ended up in New York in 1935, and remarried in 1937. They remained married until Weill's death in 1950. Lenya died in 1981. I think they missed an opportunity at the end to have Bond say that Klebb was very "curt and vile," but that might have been a little much. Lenya also performed a number of Weill's works. Funnily enough, one of them is "Pirate Jenny" from Threepenny Opera, where her character sings about a hotel maid who ends up becoming a pirate queen. I just made (he he he) that connection upon watching the hotel showdown in Venice... Goldfinger is the one that caused "Bondmania" to explode... along with "spy mania" in the mid-1960s. Very much looking forward to your reaction to that one! I know I need it to escape reality and to feel inspired to return to it, especially now...
This is pretty much as close as what you'd get to Hitchcock directing a Bond movie. It's one that has become much better regarded over the years as people appreciate it for what it is more.
Pedro Armendariz, Karim Bay, was in intense pain during the filming. Unfortunately, he passed away shortly after. He was dealing with cancer. A great mexican actor until the very end.
Wonderful! Now I have something to distract me from my hunger as my dinner gets ready. I was foolish enough to go to the store when I was already hungry, and even more foolish to shop for something that takes two hours to prepare. So now I'm starving and what's in the oven smells so good. 🤤 Only 40 minutes until I can eat...
Brilliant.... and Bond did OK too! 😂 looking forward to Goldfinger and Thunderball Goldfinger has the Aston Martin Car Thunderball has the Vulcan Bomber Plane and both have Sean Connery, some bad baddies and very Bond Bondgirls😂
I love Aston Martins and was starting to wonder when they'd finally show up! Even tho I have to admit, the one I really like is the DB9, and I'll have to wait very long before James Bond can drive that one 😂
I hope you also like surprises in action sequences as a substitute for character-driven surprises. Not all the Bond movies have so many characters with secret identities.
2:20 fun fact in the book it wasn’t Spectre who was the main villains it was actually the Russians spy organization specter they didn’t first appear until the book “Thunderball”.
Love it, I have seen all the James Bond movies and I love them all, I think you will too! 😍 btw the USA has some of the longest trains in the world....Russia has us beat, but we can't really beat them on that, because the USA is simply not big enough to do it lol. We're one of the largest countries (by geographic size) in the world, but Russia is wider. Of course, they are not a free country, and they are the nuclear enemy of NATO (of which your country and mine are members, unless that orange stain who got elected decides to be (even more) stupid...). But the California Zephyr is a 52 hour ride, highly recommended! Goes from my area -- San Francisco Bay Area -- to Chicago! Among the longest, and also among the most scenic trains! Of course, for normal travel between San Francisco and Chicago, we would just hop on a jet aircraft and get there in four hours! But sometimes one wants to take the scenic route! 🙂 If you get a room, you can lie flat and go to sleep, and three meals a day, cooked on the train by a chef, are included! As is access to showers! And everyone gets the Sightseer Lounge, which has swivel chairs that point outward to large windows! There's also a cafe with stadium-style food (like mini pizzas, large pretzels etc), that everyone has access to, although you have to pay to get food from it. 🙂
You sold it to me once you said mini pizzas and large pretzels! I love trains, imagine I even chose not to get a car, so I take a train to go everywhere! San Francisco to Chicago sounds like a great way to check the scenery on the way, so many different landscapes
Have you ever seen Dracula and I in the same room? Lots to think about... (I'm Italian, Italian is a romance language just like Romanian, add English to the mix and you get Penny - a lot of people think I sound Russian, some even think I sound Japanese 😅)
I'm a romantic, so I imagine James is dreaming of Miss Moneypenny and thinking of her when he's with other women. But she's a colleague, so it's hands off while they are working for the same employer. *** Minor spoiler below! *** At least so far. Later on there is someone that can make Bond into a one-woman-man. But that's for another day...
Just found your channel and I like it! Love your reaction! So please proceed with the 007 series! There are many interesting things you will discover by watching the next missions of Bond! Goldfinger is nice, Thunderball as well! And then follows my special favourite "You only live twice"! With a superb showdown which is for me the absolute pinnacle of the series! So I'm extremely looking forward to your reaction on YOLT!😉 Nevertheless keep your perfect way of reactions! I really appreciate your work👌!

The blonde assassin guy is Robert Shaw who played Quint in "Jaws."
First time I heard that I couldn't believe it.

An excellent actor
@@phila3884 He's also great as a British squadron commander in The Battle of Britain.
Wow he was so much younger I didn't recognize him! Great actor, lots of range it seems!

Dr. No is a good introduction, but From Russia With Love hooks you into the James Bond universe. I'll be happy to watch along with you, Penny.
Every Bond movie I watch makes me want to watch more of them!
In the movie Robert Shaw called Sean Connery an old man even though he's older. Robert Shaw is 36 and Sean Connery is 33.
It's just an expression upper class people used back then, he didn't mean he thought Bond was actually older (It's difficult to explain)
One of the favorite kid's Christmas presents of 1963 was a James Bond Attache Case with all the same equipment as the one in the movie. I wanted one.
Me too!
I'd buy one even now, in 2025
@ I bet if you had one in 2025 you would be happy, If i remember correctly in 63 they cost somewhere around $30. Today in good condition or better I see they are going for $300 to $400 on Ebay!
"Venice, feels like home" lol. These locations were impossibly exotic for most of us when we saw these movies as kids.❤️
Not for me (I'm from Austria). 😁

Great reaction Penny!
THE BEST connery bond film! 😁 SO GLAD you watched this, REALLY ENJOYED your reaction! 👍☺
I love “From Russia with Love”!!! A terrific James Bond movie. Really great. However, “Goldfinger” takes it to another level.
Good taste, my friend!
Goldfinger is the one I always heard about, so it's definitely more popular!

Penny has become my favorite movie reactor 🙌🤌
I'm not a huge fan of the early Bonds but I'm a fan of Penny.

Goldfinger is the Bond movie I heard of the most! (of the older ones at least)
One of the best Bond movies. I had a toy version of Bond's briefcase as a boy.
Aww that's cute, when I see little kids with phones and tablets I wish they had toys like that instead!
Always fun watching and listening to you Tish.😊😊😊

Oh no, that's terrible! I really liked him, was a very well written character with humor and elegance
Pay attention Major Boothroyd! I've always tried to teach you two things: never let them see you bleed and always have an entry plan...
33:01 can’t wait for that reaction.
Lady Penelope would look good in a Bond movie as a mysterious Contessa.
Great reaction as always Penny :) (Quint was hard to recognize)
Very hard! He was just so young!
Goldfinger is awesome ...

God I hate that moment of the day, when food is almost ready but not quite, and the smell makes you even hungrier than you already were
I have seen many James Bond movies.
Over time they have become less stylized and more brutal.
GoldenEye felt way less "spy story" and way more "action movie that happens to feature a spy as protagonist"
@@PennyisWatching Yes, it indeed had this feeling.
