- This applies to 2008-2010 F250 and F350 with the dual climate control. This video shows the locations for the LH and RH blend door actuators and explains what's involved in replacing them without removing the dash or the HVAC housing.
You'll have to remove:
glove box
passenger airbag
center trim fascia/bezel
radio
a pillar trim
grey panel with vent register on it
dash side panel
one duct elbow
Tools needed:
19mm socket to remove passenger seat- 3 seat bolts and one nut
8mm socket and wrench (2 on each actuator, 4 on A pillar handle/trim, 2 battery terminals)
7mm socket and wrench (4 on airbag, 4 on radio, 2 on center trim bezel, 1 on each end of the air duct that traverses behind the airbag)
10mm socket to remove passenger side air bag - 4 screws
needle nose pliers to remove air bag connector
pry bar or screwdriver
trim removal tool
small flat blade screw driver
sticky goop to hold screws in sockets and wrenches so you don't loose them inside the dash. (windshield strip adhesive works good)

Fantastic video. Followed to the tee. It was tight getting bottom actuator bolt off. I replaced both and found that the bottom passenger side actuator controls the drivers side. I would add a pic here of what ford sent me today but it won't allow me to. The service rep sent me a pic of a truck they were currently replacing actuators and had the entire dash out down to the firewall. Not necessary. Parts $56 bucks and 2 hours later done. Thanks again MostExcellentDude!
David Jolley Thank you David, I appreciate the feedback. Also good to know that the lower one under the dash controls the drivers side blend door. Not the fanciest/most polished video production but the information provided is comprehensive and detailed. Glad to hear that you are back in business and were able to do the repairs yourself.
Another thing I mite mention. The actuator passenger side under glove box. Once I got the bolt out I used a flat hex drive bolt in replace of the crown bolt. That way you can use an allan wrench to get in easier if it ever needs replacing again.
WOWOWOW!!! Excellent video! Excellent production! And yes - most definitely very, very helpful! Many thanks for this tutorial!
Pulling the Dash isn’t as hard as you think it’s way easier than pulling these vents out of the way and it gives you a lot more room. You just need to move the dash forward you don’t have to take it all the way out. 10 -10mm bolts, release steering column 1 bolt , release parking brake cable , and disconnect transmission link cable under steering wheel took me 11/2 1st time and 30 minutes the second.
That’s a great idea. I didn’t think of that!
Micheal, I didn't mean to sound ungrateful for your video... if I came across that way, I apologize sincerely.... just having a problem getting to the drivers side vendor motor... in fact, your video was very helpful... thanks!
Thanks so much dude!!!!!!! I got it done quick with your help!!! This video rocks!!!!
Hey Braedon, glad it helped! Hope it saved you some hard earned cash!!
Thank you for this informational video. I have to replace the same actuator. I can do this myself now that I know what has to be done.
Thank you for this video, 45 dollars and 20 mins later. I've got heat on the driver side!
I’m glad to hear it! Love hearing success stories like yours. Glad you have ~$1500 extra bucks in your account that you didn’t have to pay Ford. 😄
Any advice? You replaced it quick!
Your video helped me a lot. Now I know where to start. Good job...thanks for the info.
+Coal Morris Glad I could be of help. Good luck on the repair.
Perfect. Thanks for the info. Starting on mine tomorrow after I found your video.
I have a 2008 F350 King. Passenger side just blows cold air. So if I’m hearing right the top one I need to change. Will do that this coming spring. Not using it in the winter but would like it fixed
I liked the gum ideal, I've used that ideal before. Great video and very informative.
I did not pay much attention to the shaky camera, but it was informative enough to help me see what and where, Thanks!Even if the passenger side is located deep in the closet leading to Narnia buried in an ice cave guarded by gargoyles! I guess they never planned on changing them out?
I'm about to do this on my King Ranch. Thank you for the share.
same here. 2008 King Ranch, and mine's been the same way for a bit.. now, it's just stuck on cold , freezing air full time. That's great during the summer, but winter time is coming and I ain't gonna be stuck with freezing my tits off.
What a messed up design.. for serviceable parts to be stuck that far into the dashboard, that's quite upsetting.. I never imagined they'd do this.. but then again, that's why they have well paid mechanics there at ford. Ouch, this is going to suck.. but worth the savings.
awesome video. helped out a whole lot. thank you so much..
Edwin Parker Jr
Thanks so much for the feedback! Glad it helped you fix your truck!
Great video
Which blend door actuator fixes the passenger side not working? My driver's side works great.
Instead of gum, put a 3/4 inch piece of electrical tape on the head of the bolt. But the socket on the head, tight like a tiga
Very informative. Thanks for the tips!
In a 2010 F250 with dual climate control, the driver side is a pain. I'm blessed with flexibility and narrow wrists, long fingers. I could barely reach, but good enough. The dash should probably come out unless your into contortions. I replaced both, since it would have died if I hadn't.
My left side on my 08 f250 is blowing warm. Question is do you have to take the whole dash apart to get to the left side motor? I have not looked under my dash yet but my shop said it was 978.00! I will crack that plastic tube to save almost 1000! I probably should replace the right side too I guess.
wow i have that problem right now and i guess i better start working on it
ROCK ON BROTHER! THANK YOU
You bet! Happy it helped!
Took me about 4 hours. The bottom one is the real pain. Getting the hidden screw tightened is tedious to say the least.
Tape works as well as gum
thanks bro. my kind of vid.
FYI - Make sure to check out the description for more information including a tool list, a parts list, and links to other videos and forum postings for this exact year/make/model.
Why did you not show taking it apart?
I just replace mine but still won’t work do I need to reset or something
Man!! Can you give me some details on how you removed the hidden screw on the bottom motor? I did the top with no problem at all.
I'll tell you what Pat, it requires patience and turning the screw a tiny bit at a time. That one screw on the bottom motor might take 30-45mins with an open ended wrench. IIRC I used a pry bar to get the duct out of the way to gain more clearance. I laid on my back looking up and just inched the screw out. Have fun putting it back in!
Michael LeCompte thx Michael but I followed one of the other guys recommendations here. Thought I would post this so others could see what I did. I took out the front screw "the easy one that is". Then basically pride down the motor and broke off the back bracket. Then took out the back screw. At this point I decided to just break off the same bracket on the new motor and install it with just the front screw and made so plastic spacers to help support it. Crap, it's so tight in there I did not feel it needed the back screw. Works great!
Thanks for the video. I'm going to tackle this over the weekend since I'm tired of freezing my butt off while driving this winter.
I may have missed this during the video, but what was the reason behind the removal of the passenger seat? Just to give you room to work, or is there another reason for it?
Thanks, again.
Yes. Removed so I could lay on my back and look upward. I'm 6'5". I wagered that since its easy enough to remove, it would be worth it, since it gives you more room and makes the whole job go easier. The bottom one is a major pita.
Michael LeCompte smart move. Thanks for the reply.
Where is the blender door located for the drivers side?
Bottom below the dash on the passenger side. The one inside the dash behind the radio controls the passenger side.
Quick question , what is that pipe running length wise , it looks like it has sensors in it , thanks
The pipe running lengthwise under the dash is just the floor air outlet for the passenger side. It doesn't have any sensors in it.
curious how long it took you to do this yourself?
After I had the parts in hand, It took me a few hours after work. I would say 2-3 maybe 4 hours with hand tools. I was home in time for dinner. :)
If i dont have dual climate control, would there be only one to look for?
One blend door indicates manual HVAC, it would be same procedure as RT side blend door for dual climate vehicles.
Was the driver side actuator the the one under passenger glove box?
I don't know. Just replaced both.
ok Great video by the way. The air bag make me a bit nervous. You just disconnected power when removing air bag right? No sequence to removing it other than power?
David Jolley Yes thats correct! Disconnected the ground terminals on both batteries. I still steer clear of the airbag when I remove the connector.
I disconnected the ground and power on both batteries.... Taking off power as well won;t hurt it right?
Can't hurt!
The video didn't come through. Black screen. I tried it several times.
Dd Powell works fine for me.
what is this for
Which one was the driver side one
I’m not sure. Thats why I replaced both. Figured the other one couldn’t be far behind.
I just read thru the comments and found this:
Bottom below the dash controls the driver side. The one inside the dash behind the radio controls the passenger side.
600$ to do it at the dealer? Thats weird cause my ford dealer quoted, and told me its $1400 to do the job parts/labour
To bad Ford doesn't make orange coolant anymore
man, hard to watch with all the camera movement. good info though
One handed with an iphone and I was hungry for dinner. At least the info is documented thou.
Or you could just do it this way without taking half the truck apart. (142) 2008 F250 Ford Superduty passenger side blend door duel climate control actuator replace quick easy - UA-cam
That works for one side but both.
Ford is shit.. every ford I've owned has been a pain in the ass. The dealers are the biggest
bunch of crooks going.. I'm on my last ford now and will never buy another.
