You've never played Homeworld? You are really missing out - it's not only a seminal strategy game, it's also one of the very best examples of how emotional storytelling can be done with relatively little on-screen. You absolutely MUST play Homeworld. Homeworld 2 is fun but can be skipped if you're not a big fan.
I can't find anything that close enough that scream "SPACE OPERA" than Homeworld series.
I see you're taking a lot of damage from enemy railguns. Your armored assault units' smoke ability is really useful for blocking LOS which will allow you to move in on them without losing as many units.
The holes in the ground with the giant ships look to me like something along the lines of drydocks used to salvage the ships that are in them. The dirt mounds on the sides are more than likely to be the dirt that was removed from the drydocks, possibly to be used to bury the ships after all the valuable resources have been removed from them.
Radio : Rachel is under attack
Raptor : Rachel is fine. She's got the biggest land rover out there
If you want more, I really recommend playing through the remastered collection, Deserts of Kharak is to the Homeworld like a Hobit to the LOTR.
47:20 "He was one day away from retirement too.."
XD
IT'S OVER ANAKIN! I HAVE THE HIGH GROUND!
Star wars fan?
love raptors reaction to the gunships. O7
Now that's what I call entertainment! Another great mission and battle! Love it!!
ships that were emergency exiting from interstellar traveling ended up inside of a planet
I think the bunkers get covered by panels to provide secret docks for battleships
23:23 that airship's entrance engagement chance to look cooler with insta death got wasted
RE The ships in the ground: I think what we may actually be seeing, given the Homeworld back story, are the original settlers ships being buried and hidden from either their pursuers, or from future generations to help prevent their discovery and eventual demise, and that many of the bluffs surrounding this area may be the 'graves' of other already buried ships.
Am I right.. probably not. but it's a cool sounding premise. :)
Raptor, if you find this, just 2 questions about the game
1: How "free" is it? Is it like Wargame where battles are just 2 armies fighting, with no 2 going the same, or is it heavily scripted, and objective orientated like CoH?
2: How steep is the learning curve?
What if for the next Homeworld they combined the land AND space warfare of all three games? That would be crazy but amazing.
you asked what the ships in the holes in the ground were. Previously Rachel said something about a fleet of ships materializing into solid rock. This is that fleet.
Intel guy : the galsian are escaping with a artifact
Raptor : o you uh uh hell bah
From the markings on the fallen ships they are obviously Polish. That red and white checker marks are the same as their air force.
Imagine if they were crewed by polish women?!
I love all the nodes to the previous games.
I'm guessing that all humans on Kharak ,or whatever this planet is name, are descendants of a large group of either settlers or an intergalactic expedition that visited the planet. The ships that you saw were probably in some sort of dock or something. A sandstorm came,(or some other disaster) disabling all the ships, and forcing the crew to disperse and survive off the land. The North guys, the ones that you are playing, are probably the descendants of settlers who cared more for surviving and starting their own life; the knowledge of the ships and how they got there were probably lost over the ages and due to the fact that they really didn't give a damn. The southern guys, the guys you're facing against, are probably the descendants of scientists or a military expedition that landed south. The leadership has always known about the ships, but refuse to tell the populace because they're afraid to lose power and they created some weird-ass cult that prohibits space travel. It would also explain how they have the upper hand in technology and knowledge of the desert. But you know, not like I've been thinking about this for a while.
+Aidan Otero Yeaaaaaaah, not really. You learn about all of it in Homeworld 1. But a very good theory if the other games didn't exist!
They're descendants of an ancient Empire forced into exile and they're trying to uncover artifacts that will eventually help them find a way back home
That's all I'm gonna tell ya ;)
since these comments are two years old, might as well. The guys you are playing as well as the enemy you're facing are all Exiles. They were banished by a force that defeated them to this planet, and left to die. They were forbidden from ever developing hyperspace technology again, among other restrictions placed upon them by their Victor, but they eventually lost all memory of this, and eventually returned to the Stars.
When they did, it was through use of artifacts they find later in this game, including an intact and functioning hyperspace core. This sets into motion the events of Homeworld.
The Hiigarans fought a war with the Taiidan Empire. Their flagship, equipped with the hyperspace core, allowed them to outmaneuver their foes. The Hiigarans came close to wiping out the Taiidan, when the Bentusi got involved, defeating the Hiigarans, and forcing them into exile. The Hiigarans landed the Khar-Toba in the middle of Kharak's deserts, forcing them to flee to more habitable temperatures.
You got it half true and half wrong, A long time ago, some precursors (humans) went to the Galaxy, settled it and more. Then after this, a bunch of hyperspace cores are left, the precursors die off robots were the only eople who knew how to build things so humans loose tech and start off from scratch. they Bentusi find one of the great hyperspace cores and establish the outer colony. When the 2nd core was found (hiigarans) with it came blood and terror after this the taiidan who got the 3rd hyperspace core try to destroy them and a pact is established the hiigarans will be displaced forever into Kharak, banned from hyperspace technology but when they leave 1 oif the colony ships goes to the angel moon of hiigara and gets the hyperspace core. the game is a prequel to homeworld 1 (1999) that talks aboput how they found back their hyperspace core since after the colonization hiigara only meant heaven in the Kushan Language (new hiigarans) then they discover it build a 40km tall mothership (much bigger tan these) taiidan try to kill them make allies with the bentusi and taiidan rebels the taiidan empire is now corrupt and decadent and get their homeworld back wich is now the capital of the taiidan empire.
For those who do not want to wade through the comments: Sadly, the Gaalsien were in fact fighting for their survival, however short lived it was destined to be. But not for the reasons they thought. Once hyperspace travel was rediscovered and tested, most on the planet were doomed in the short term. Homeworld 1 explains why. Long term, the planet was doomed in any case. The artifacts recovery was tho only path for the survival of anybody from that planet Kharak, however few they would be. Of interest, when Homeworld first came out, they included an actual physical book of over 150 pages, much of it explaining the recorded history of Kharak and its many religion-based wars.
Aboard the Kapasi during the recovery of the first Artifact: "Support Cruiser Nagal, capture that Artifact!" "Understood sir!" Starts driving right over it and derping as the Nagal's crew starts to form a human chain struggling to pull it up. Aboard the Kapasi: "...RACHEL! WE NEED YOUR HELP"
its a Desert so satellite imagery will most like be obscured by sand storms and since its hot as hell in desert no real thermal imagery is useful either and lets not forget sand normally covers everything
I think the're either ship breaking them for resources or this whole place used to be an old base of the people who built the big spaceships and that hole you saw in the beginning was an elevator and the the sand has cover the pits they held the ships, that's why there was sand piles next to the ships so the Gaasians mightve been trying to dig them up. But this still doesn't explain the broken ships.
+Spectre417 Just an awesome theory man!
Homeworld 2 was the best. Best thing was you could teleport your sub units from above and below. Whilst your main units are engaging in battle. And just watch your subunits rain hell on the enemy
These ships are ancient colony ship and at some point they split in to factions and civil war began. And there are only two factions left this is lost forgotten tech since it past war destroyed everything and they had to begin again.
And here I was thinking that the power of the high ground was unstoppable.
At 31:22 the blue ru display showed 911 lololol
LOL, that's not a bagpipe, you dork, that's a suona!
Now I understand how the martians from WOTW movies version landed their walking machine to earth.
It's over anakin, I have the high ground! And I also have sand!
Knowing what happens in Homeworld 1...it makes me feel abit sad for the Galcians since (in their own, somewhat twisted way) they were just trying to protect the world.
If the Kushan had stayed on Kharak, they made maybe a few centuries left before the planet became totally uninhabitable. They had to leave, or they would all have died. Yes, the Gaalsien were trying to stop the Coalition from breaking the treaty, but their way of life was going to end one way or another.
putting the ships in pits to hid them from sat view and either fixing them or taking the tech out of them
Lol, watching this for the first time it's obvious that the ships were stationed here in the bunkers.
Yes another episode. Thanks
+Martynas Šulga You're welcome, thanks for watching!
appreciate all the efforts you put into each uploaded video,is it possible to arrange all the videos in one playlist ?
It's kind of weird how nice the Intel officer is after so much halo
Your commentary is hilarious LOL keep up the good work
Lol! "One day away from retirement"
I think originally the ships were attacking those remains when they blew up
i think the galsians are repairing the spaceships and lowering them into the ground to conceal them for radar
+Digiti9 Not quite. Not gonna spoil it though :)
+Digiti9 o7
Must be amazing to come into homeworld blind. Not knowing the previous established lore.
Well I remember playing the first game when I was like 11 just absolutely enthralled with the game. Quite possibly my favorite game from my childhood.
Because back then, the Internet was a lot more sparse with info and if you wanted to know the lore of a game, you either had to play it or dig for a long, long time.
waited like three days for this! so happy to see it in my subbox
+Matthew Harris Sorry to keep you waiting! Much more to come!
Raptor Awesome! So looking forward to it. Will you be streaming some PVP later?
Your baserunner can launch a scouting probe that can be used monitor the area
+Ocian Price Good point. I did not use it much through the campaign.
+Raptor #lithium?
it looks like it used to be a bunker complex and the gelsians are pulling them out to dismantle them so no one can get back into space
+hawkorxen Interesting theory!
Let me ask you this. If the ships showed no sign of atmospheric burn, how did they land on the planet? Or make perfect holes without any interference? My hint: What's the one thing in homeworld that can instantly transport a something from one area to another?
FedEx!
Hyperspace !
o7 for Brian and his honoruable salvage mission
Those huge ships are smallest in homewrold 1 and two
P.S.: That hexagon symbol by the resources on the UI. Click it to see all collected Artifacts
#lithium My god those strike fighers. i first tought it would be tiny aircraft but then it was like a ac130 and OMG what was that beautifull. o7 the fuck out of this video.
57:30
Incident Report
We bombed the fuck out of it
I'm surprised that they don't allow you the option to rebuild the space ships
Also take the initiative. take the fight to the enemy and flank them.
It was suppose to a fleet of space ships but when they tried to take off they broke!!!Did you hear me a fleet of space ship hole shit
What's hilarious is the bad guys a right.
They get into a serious furball once the go into deep space
You violated a 4000 year-old treaty that you had no way of knowing about! Therefore, we should Exterminatus your adopted homeworld and send bloodthirsty pirates after you!
And make you fight the lost members of your own race in the Garden. That part was SUPER sad. They just wouldn't listen. We're all Kushan!!! And still they try to ram the Mothership with their Needleship, so great was their fear of the Taidan.
It made slaughtering the Emperor all the more satisfying.
Well the planet was dying anyway and running out of water and resources so either side is wrong and right at the same time, and both equally fucked.
Would you rather your race slowly die of thirst and starving...
Or do you prefer a quick nuking?
if you want to know abaut the story more play the rest of the games (awsome games)
There's something like Jurassic Park going on here
They may be trying to preserve the ships for history or sacrificing them its very strange and watching this is almost like a movie i love it. o7 raptor i am in the middle of watching btw
+Max Hvasta Happy to have you watching!
But the holes were already there. No human interference
hey raptor, another great video! you should check out the home world remastered collection on steam and play the originals! Thanks for all the great videos:)
+Sam 32120 Thanks for the kind comment! Hope to see you in the next video!
your assault guns can deploy smoke so rail guns cant fire at them
The sounds are like homeworld 2
K'HAD SAJUUK Hahaha !!
They're rebuilding them
the ships were hidden after they landed so that noone may ever rise up to the stars again ;)
if play the other home-world games you will understand the holes the ships are in 5:15.

The holes where made buy the ships jumping into hyperspace NAV coordinates must have bean wrong or the NAV computer was damaged and when they came out of hyperspace some where in the ground others where in the air and fell to the ground there may even be some way underground. i don't know how these hyper-drives work but by logic there should be some big rectangle blocks of stone in space somewhere.
Amazing gameplay as always o7
garaki does not sound like a world anymore
ship rebuilding and use of force
its a ship building yard
You should play Homeworld 1
These definitely would be considered artifacts. Even if they're obviously ships.
They are thousands of years old and have been buried in the desert for most of that time. They are mysterious, in that we don't yet know what they were for and the tech, while similar enough to ours to be hackable and usable, is way beyond ours by several centuries at least. Add to that that they are not from our civilization any more than the Roman Empire or Chinese Empire are our civilization, despite being our ancestors, and the moniker "artifact" is simply a dispassionate label to put on it.
Calling it a "ship" outright, while more accurate, is a little less appropriate in a situation like this. After all, for all we know at this point, they may not be the actual vessel, but rather, a component of modular ship or station. If this is the case, then calling them ships would be inaccurate... So, yeah, they may not be ships after all. "Artifacts" is, therefore, a more accurate and appropriate moniker at this time.
i think before they were like that they where shot out of the sky before the could fully land
that be the truth
you crazy man
+Carson Petro I be cray.
btw this game looks a little bit like planetary analition
Hm... Look like SDF-2? Hehehe
had to switch to another channel after this, please create a playlist for homeworld its difficult to follow the chain of episodes.....
Bomber is haveing a course....comander gives new move directives evrytime he is near halway through his turning arch....comander whines he got hit by AA...XD.....I dont think I want to be part of Raptors fleet ona dessert planet
Wow!!!
Back to Back Hstor
I have never played this game, but it seems to me that the humans on world, are the degenerate descendants of starship crews who in most cases crashed their ships upon landing. Perhaps they were the remnants of a large fleet that was running from some enemy out in space. As the game continues, you should get a better and better idea of what happened long ago.
enough from me,
the Frank Gamer
Frank Smedley you're correct, mostly. They were exiled to kharak
You're missing out, big time, on a great story.
Frank Smedley have you played the original game? no insult
if you play the original homeworld series, you would know exactly what is going on. lol.
I had to take a look to see how old the video is XD
Somebody buried the ships.
+madman3470 That must have been one big dog...
hi
well I see the North Korea missile advancement is going great
1min before his ship gets shot at he jumps out and one of light veichels pick him up
