I'm also in the area, and don't blame you - Hi-Proof is doing god's work out here. Made so many trips recently, including getting (2) James E Pepper & Knob Creek 12 year @ $50. Bulleit 12 year rye also under $50. Their pricing and bundles for a small shop is a breath of fresh air compared to the other liquor museums around here.

I really like these videos. Knowing what, where, and how much is fun. Especially since we are both in So-Cal. Haven't heard you speak of Hi-Proof in Fullerton. (Great score on the Old Carter by the way.) I should start following them. I have seen the JD Bonded at Sam's Club for about the same amount but like you said it was a 700ml bottle. It's funny when you run into goofy pricing. The same thing happened to me with Buffalo Trace at Sam's Club. I had to really take a good look at both displays to find out the 1 liter was a buck cheaper than the 750 ml. Sam's Club (at least in California) has consistently had Buffalo Trace on the shelf for 21 to 23 dollars and Eagle Rare has been made available for $29 ish. I'm hoping for maybe a Taylor or Old Carter one day...the world needs dreamers right ? I haven't been out searching or buying lately. But the "KaVaLan" Whisky from Taiwan that was gifted to me was a nice surprise. I have a sample poured up for you. Keep up the good work and stay healthy. D

Nice haul! Rationalizing is strong with this one, lol. I picked up couple lower proof SiB this month, Sazerac rye and evan williams. I'm going more towards 90-100 proofs lately for the ease of drinking.

Wow, that Michter’s bundle is a hell of a deal. At the distillery in Louisville you get the M10 and 1 of those for $265. You figure each of those is 50 (at least where I live) that puts the 10yr at 140. You can never have enough backups of Michter’s core lineup!

I probably would have skipped over most of that as well, including what you missed out on and what you ultimately did get. I'm really fizzled out on all the high retail prices, let alone secondary prices. There is a Four Roses store pick that is supposed to be dropping soon at a liquor chain in another town about an hour away from me. I'm on their call list to be notified when it's available. In last months allocated raffle at my local grocery store I finally got called! I went with Elmer T Lee for $49.99! I have lemon lime soda to go with it, just like how Elmer himself enjoyed drinking it! Other than that, I've really started to narrow down on what I'm willing to put money towards. Many of the 'unicorns' I have tried or that I currently own just aren't that great. I'm still on board with any mash bill #1 Buffalo Trace products namely Eagle Rare, EH Taylor small batch and Stagg. I can always pick up the cherries and that grape soda note in them and it's just fantastic! Especially on ice! Elmer T Lee is okay stuff. I definitely prefer it mixed. I would never advise anyone to pay anything but MSRP for ETL though. It's just not that great and it never was meant to be either, it was meant to be a low cost offering. These scalpers just take advantage of its low production output (same with Rock Hill Farms, which I have not tried yet). My main focus lately has been budget bonded bourbons and Driftless Glen (Baraboo Wisconsin is only a couple hours drive for me). I currently have one of their single barrel store picks and their bourbon de naranja finished bourbon. Still looking for their rye and wheated bourbon.
That's a great strategy and if I didn't have a UA-cam channel to review, compare, and contrast these bottles, I would probably do the same. But not only do those "allocated" bottles get the most views, I also need to compare them to any other bottles to get people interested in watching and give them some perspective. But let's be honest, I also like drinking and who doesn't like a good allocated bottle 😆. But I certainly would cut back a lot, especially the hunting, without the channel. 5 of us did a blind with 4 small batches along with Caribou Crossing. Caribou Crossing took last place among the $30 small batches. Sure, it's a cool bottle for $46

I passed on a CYPB for $1,000 today. Lol. I also saw a Voyage for $280. I did buy a PHC DBB for $475. Halfway done with my current DBB and can't see a way its price comes any lower. Love that pour

Would love to see your review of the camp Nelson F! I know a store locally that’s selling it for $450 and I was thinking offering them $350 and maybe going up $25-$50 if they don’t take my offer. It’s been sitting on their back shelves for six months. All the reviews I’ve seen and read have been amazing. Many say it’s better than the even more expensive generations. But is it unique and amazing or just great all around? I have a feeling I will love it but unique is something I want when spending $350+ on any bottle. I have so many good Russell’s SIB picks, multiple bottles of their 12 year exports and RR 13. But I always want the very best! Curious what it does for you on your nose and palette! 🥃

That $300 EHT BP is a bit criminal if you think of the retail price but in my area it is so rare I would have bought the EHT BP bundle. Also Hakushu 12 year was fine at $78 years ago. At current pricing Hell NO!! That Russell’s bundle I would have hopped on.

Ive tried every E.H. Taylor bottle and they are the weakest, and dullest bourbons i ever had for the price. Im so glad i never wasted my money on them.
That's the beauty of whiskey where all palates are different and one man's bad bottle can be another man's treasure bottle 😆. I love all things EH Taylor (small batch, single barrel, rye) and so barrel proof is a must get for me. I'm lucky and fortunate that I was able to find it at a great price and will be grateful. Warehouse C is my fave but the rest can collect dust. EHT rye is on of my least fav ryes ever. EHT small batch is a joke. I finally tried EHT BP and was not impressed, I’d rather have an EHT single barrel pick. But I’d never hunt a tater tube again
@@huntermcdougal5013 never had warehouse C before but sounds amazing! I understand, I feel that way about the Weller lineup as in I like the 107, but others are good but definitely not worth the hunt for me 😆.
I'm sure it's a good pour and a experience but I should have mentioned that it was more that I was not interested all the hype surrounding it instead of the actual whiskey. But as I mentioned, I don't particularly like low proofs and if I do choose to have an easy sipper, it'll be a michter's most of the time 😆. Happy Friday and cheers ~

@@WhiskeyBank It was behind the glass 1 bottle left!. I had a pour of the last batch in Savannah Georgia and it was delicious. I have not opened batch 12 yet. I had to ask for Weller 12 last year, but finally got a bottle.
The 2024-01 Bookers was my first Bookers. I did not enjoy it. I plan on sharing with friends to see their thoughts over time. I may go back to a pour at the end of the year, or in a blind. But I've tried it neat and on rocks and I just can't do it.
Bookers at first can be very harsh and hot at first but like many things, if your palate adjusts and gets to love it, you can't drink anything else 😆. I would compare it to Tabasco in terms of something you might not like at first but can't live without it later. Happy Friday and cheers ~
Solid bottles even the skips. I skipped on the same you did except for EW SiB and Caribou Crossing. The EW is lower proof but still a nice start to the evening and one of the very few sub $30 bottles I would buy again. Caribou Crossing I just like. I have to be in a mellow mood wanting an easy sipper but I go through several bottles a year now. Used to not drink it or have on bar for guests. Not a go to but a nice quiet evening pour. I think CC gets a lot of fake hate. Just people hating on something they have never even tried. I love high proof but I also love my Irish (though have dozens of high proof ones) and Scotch sonIncan appreciate the CC which I think has a very nice nose and great mouthfeel just a very fast finish. I would have passed in bundles but I have yet to find an EHT BP 😢 Can’t pass on Booker’s at msrp. Even “bad ones” are good. I passed several times on Michter’s 10 Rye since cheapest I found it was at $350 I would have bought that Michter’s bundle. Frustrating missing out on it but always another bottle down the road. Score in the KC 10 yr rye. Never had an Old Carter or Four Gate. Not sold in my region of country - urghhh 😂 I passed on the Russell’s Rickhouse at $350. Looking forward tonyour review. I am sure I made a mistake but just never had a bourbon worth that much before. Hope you love it. My biggest score so far this month is buying a Redbreast 27 year for $449.99 with no tax.
Redbreast 27 at that price is a steal! Probably the best obtainable scotch from what I hear 😆 but don't quote me on anything scotch 🤣. I should give caribou crossing another chance. It is a single barrel so maybe I just got a bad one. Next time 🫡. Hopefully you'll be able find that eht bp in June! Happy Friday and cheers ~

I forgot to say. In May I passed on Henry McKenna 10 year at multiple places because it was $68 to $74. Also passed up on Elijah Craig barrel proof store picks that were 8 years of age and $94 before tax. Picked up Pursuit United double oak store pick and Smoke wagon UCUF store picks for $65

The Evan Williams is a decent bottle for $26. Good for new bourbon drinkers or a low proof pour.

Nice haul! Rationalizing is strong with this one, lol. I picked up couple lower proof SiB this month, Sazerac rye and evan williams. I'm going more towards 90-100 proofs lately for the ease of drinking.
Hey Danny! Hope all is well. There is no issue with liking lower proofs! I wish I did as I would save a ton of money 🤣. But they are easier and smooth to drink as I do often start the night with a 90 or 100 proofer 😆.

Wow, that Michter’s bundle is a hell of a deal. At the distillery in Louisville you get the M10 and 1 of those for $265. You figure each of those is 50 (at least where I live) that puts the 10yr at 140. You can never have enough backups of Michter’s core lineup!
Yes, the Michter's 10 year Bourbon bundle was a great one and the reason it sold out within minutes 😆. Let's hope I'm fast enough next time to get a great deal like that again.

I probably would have skipped over most of that as well, including what you missed out on and what you ultimately did get. I'm really fizzled out on all the high retail prices, let alone secondary prices. There is a Four Roses store pick that is supposed to be dropping soon at a liquor chain in another town about an hour away from me. I'm on their call list to be notified when it's available. In last months allocated raffle at my local grocery store I finally got called! I went with Elmer T Lee for $49.99! I have lemon lime soda to go with it, just like how Elmer himself enjoyed drinking it!
Other than that, I've really started to narrow down on what I'm willing to put money towards. Many of the 'unicorns' I have tried or that I currently own just aren't that great. I'm still on board with any mash bill #1 Buffalo Trace products namely Eagle Rare, EH Taylor small batch and Stagg. I can always pick up the cherries and that grape soda note in them and it's just fantastic! Especially on ice! Elmer T Lee is okay stuff. I definitely prefer it mixed. I would never advise anyone to pay anything but MSRP for ETL though. It's just not that great and it never was meant to be either, it was meant to be a low cost offering. These scalpers just take advantage of its low production output (same with Rock Hill Farms, which I have not tried yet).
My main focus lately has been budget bonded bourbons and Driftless Glen (Baraboo Wisconsin is only a couple hours drive for me). I currently have one of their single barrel store picks and their bourbon de naranja finished bourbon. Still looking for their rye and wheated bourbon.
That's a great strategy and if I didn't have a UA-cam channel to review, compare, and contrast these bottles, I would probably do the same. But not only do those "allocated" bottles get the most views, I also need to compare them to any other bottles to get people interested in watching and give them some perspective.
But let's be honest, I also like drinking and who doesn't like a good allocated bottle 😆. But I certainly would cut back a lot, especially the hunting, without the channel.

At 80 proof, I just don't think it can bring enough to the table but many people do enjoy it so maybe it's just us 🤣.

Honestly, the PHC DBB is impossible to find and if you know you love it, that's a fair price. Luckily I never had it so I don't know what I'm missing out on 🤣.

Would love to see your review of the camp Nelson F! I know a store locally that’s selling it for $450 and I was thinking offering them $350 and maybe going up $25-$50 if they don’t take my offer. It’s been sitting on their back shelves for six months. All the reviews I’ve seen and read have been amazing. Many say it’s better than the even more expensive generations. But is it unique and amazing or just great all around? I have a feeling I will love it but unique is something I want when spending $350+ on any bottle. I have so many good Russell’s SIB picks, multiple bottles of their 12 year exports and RR 13. But I always want the very best! Curious what it does for you on your nose and palette! 🥃

That $300 EHT BP is a bit criminal if you think of the retail price but in my area it is so rare I would have bought the EHT BP bundle. Also Hakushu 12 year was fine at $78 years ago. At current pricing Hell NO!! That Russell’s bundle I would have hopped on.

Ive tried every E.H. Taylor bottle and they are the weakest, and dullest bourbons i ever had for the price. Im so glad i never wasted my money on them.
That's the beauty of whiskey where all palates are different and one man's bad bottle can be another man's treasure bottle 😆. I love all things EH Taylor (small batch, single barrel, rye) and so barrel proof is a must get for me. I'm lucky and fortunate that I was able to find it at a great price and will be grateful.

Warehouse C is my fave but the rest can collect dust. EHT rye is on of my least fav ryes ever. EHT small batch is a joke. I finally tried EHT BP and was not impressed, I’d rather have an EHT single barrel pick. But I’d never hunt a tater tube again

Caribou Crossing is not bad. We had a drink through of CC, Blantons, Gold, SFTB and CC was a-ok. Great beginner drink and easy sipping.
I found one for that same low price at a TW and bought just for the looks on the shelf. Haven’t tried the actual juice yet
I'm sure it's a good pour and a experience but I should have mentioned that it was more that I was not interested all the hype surrounding it instead of the actual whiskey.
But as I mentioned, I don't particularly like low proofs and if I do choose to have an easy sipper, it'll be a michter's most of the time 😆.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the Old Carter Bourbon. I also have the American and Rye and have passed on the Bourbon before, I don’t think I’ll pass if I see it again.
I'm very curious as well as it's my first bottle. Samples are nice but getting the full experience from neck pour to the bottom is always more fun 😆.

The 2024-01 Bookers was my first Bookers. I did not enjoy it. I plan on sharing with friends to see their thoughts over time. I may go back to a pour at the end of the year, or in a blind. But I've tried it neat and on rocks and I just can't do it.
Bookers at first can be very harsh and hot at first but like many things, if your palate adjusts and gets to love it, you can't drink anything else 😆. I would compare it to Tabasco in terms of something you might not like at first but can't live without it later.

I skipped on the same you did except for EW SiB and Caribou Crossing.
The EW is lower proof but still a nice start to the evening and one of the very few sub $30 bottles I would buy again.
Caribou Crossing I just like. I have to be in a mellow mood wanting an easy sipper but I go through several bottles a year now. Used to not drink it or have on bar for guests. Not a go to but a nice quiet evening pour.
I think CC gets a lot of fake hate. Just people hating on something they have never even tried.
I love high proof but I also love my Irish (though have dozens of high proof ones) and Scotch sonIncan appreciate the CC which I think has a very nice nose and great mouthfeel just a very fast finish.
I would have passed in bundles but I have yet to find an EHT BP 😢
Can’t pass on Booker’s at msrp. Even “bad ones” are good.
I passed several times on Michter’s 10 Rye since cheapest I found it was at $350
I would have bought that Michter’s bundle. Frustrating missing out on it but always another bottle down the road.

My biggest score so far this month is buying a Redbreast 27 year for $449.99 with no tax.
Redbreast 27 at that price is a steal! Probably the best obtainable scotch from what I hear 😆 but don't quote me on anything scotch 🤣.
I should give caribou crossing another chance. It is a single barrel so maybe I just got a bad one. Next time 🫡.

Hey Rich! It's one of the bottles I haven't got into as I had a sample and it was good but not excellent. Very similar to Peerless Double Oak so if you like that profile, you'll like the Hirsch double oak. Hope that helps!

I forgot to say. In May I passed on Henry McKenna 10 year at multiple places because it was $68 to $74. Also passed up on Elijah Craig barrel proof store picks that were 8 years of age and $94 before tax. Picked up Pursuit United double oak store pick and Smoke wagon UCUF store picks for $65
