I have been a Rajnikant fan since Shivaji The Boss..The movie was so explicit in it's subtext like it was a parody of itself but Rajnikant made it so entertaining that only he could make. The man brings authenticity to every role with Rajnikant you know you will be entertained no matter how absurd the plot is. I can watch him reading newspaper and I won't get bored. Rajnikant is like Coca Cola in a weird meal you have never heard of but you order it because at least you get the Coke. I think that is the reason he is loved in whole of India or the world.
Rajini has fans in Telugu since Dalapathy & basha times. Not from Robot.

I always wondered what if Rajini played Raj Kiran's role in Power Pandi. He can pull it off and show a beautiful side of him. The film shows vulnerability, beauty of love and challenges of being a neglected parent. Watching certain scenes in Kabali, Kaala and Petta, i miss Rajini being romantic, comedic and vulnerable. It shows a different side of him. Being "massy" does not define strength or mean they are a "real" man.

Can we all stop drawing comparisons between legendary actors? They are considered legends for a reason. Each of them have uniqueness. One actor may be better in doing a certain kind of role than the other. However, I think they are all equally "Good Actors"

BR if it’s a Rajni Kamal movie - I would love to see a film like Face-Off - two stellar roles performed by two phenomenal actors. Seeing Rajni and Kamal as both hero and villain in the same movie ... wow ... I would love to see that !
That's exactly the problem with our director-writers.. as a fan we could use another film as a reference, but the ppl who actually do movies don't have the skills to get inspired from such movies and create their own screenplay, rather choose to recreate the same movie..

MGR- stylish superstar, Sinaji Ganesan- pure concentrated actor. After them Superstar Rajini= As great as MGR and Ulaganayagan Kamal= As great as Sivaji. The next MGR/ Sivaji was found. But the next Rajini/ Kamal is far from reality. Vijay Setthupathi has the potential to be the next Kamal though

Why is it your perception about petta is changing from time to time? You said ' petta didn't work for yourself' on former interviews, now you are praising petta as if like top ten of the decade.

Most of us always complaint of his age and he should do age appropriate roles etc. It's basically from our incapability and envy. Who said that actors should do age appropriate roles. When youngs actors do old roles we don't have a problem then why the other way we are too critical. We just are a bunch of hypocrites and jealous immatures. That's all. Let Rajini be Rajni of his choice not by our biases!!
I am not a great Rajini fan, but when it comes to a combination of Stardom and acting, Annamalai, Netrikann and Sivajai were good. Sure some of his old films without stardom like 16 Vayadhiniley, Mullum Malaram, Thappidha Thaalangal etc were also good.
Watch his older movies Ragavedra, bairavi, mundru mugam for his acting skills
Thambikku endha oru (except for climax) brought out a fantastic natural comedian in Rajini. It can be watched anytime. Thillumullu was another good one though it was like typical KB drama.
His role was so small in 16 Vayathinile but he was so good

Whatever the reasons are, and whoever the actors and thalas, thalapathis are, whatever the box-office numbers are, it's always Rajini and there will never be a replacement!

The reason why Rajinikanth became bigger star than Mohanlal is because Mohanlal plays Everyman while Rajinikanth plays Superman. To like Everyman , you need to be relatable. Someone from North cannot relate to Kerala as people in these states are different and so are life experiences. For example movies like Varavelpu is relatable to Malayalee but not to North because we neither have Unionism nor people going to Gulf this much.
Whereas in Rajinikanth, you do not need to be Tamilian to enjoy Rajinikanth movies. It is not that Rajinikanth would play a Sri Lankan Tamilian like Kamal Hassan did in Thenali. You can just Wow to his style like any Tamilian would because style are universal. Since I was 10 when Shivaji was released , Shivaji was first time I became fan of Rajinikanth when it came Hindi dubbed on repeat viewing in TV.
About Chiranjeevi, it is another matter. While his Indra the Tiger is a hit on TV viewing, he appears serious in comparison to Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna in movies like Gang Leader and SP Parashuram. This is Nagarjuna is more famous than Chiranjeevi because of repeat viewing of Hindi dubbed version of Mass and Don on TV.
One thing people are forgetting is that we look forward to seeing Kamal and Rajinikanth in different “avatar” in next movie. While Chiru will play a rowdy or Mohanlal will play a family man on scooter , Rajinikanth will be a Robot in one and Malaysian gangster in next. Same with Kamal who will be women in one and a Hindu extremist in next.
Even Mohanlal had to Lucifer to get pan-India appeal because he was playing Superman basically. Coincidentally Lucifer was second Mohanlal movie I saw with first being Company.
P.S. Between Kamal and Rajinikanth, I am a Rajinikanth fan. He is my favourite Tamil actor.

Kamal said it was about remuneration, the producers used to play less when two of them are in the film than in their individual films.

@Seshadrinathan K I'm a hardcore Rajini fan and yes 2000s was a really weak decade for Rajini but I think the best one was Baba even though it has problems story wise.

Actually it's right rajini is not a very good actor but a very popular star.
I think rajinikanth should do more reliastic films and content driven films ( for eg like pink,drushyam)where character suits his age and look more natural rather than doing masala films like darbar because his character didnot look natural and it was exaturated I think he should do films with directors like vetrimaaran, ramkumar, manikandan,Mari selvaraj etc rather than siruthai siva, murgadoss
Seshadrinathan k but rajini combo with vetrimaaran, manikandan works because there films are dealt with ground reality but the thing they have to do is to balance rajinikanth image with the story for eg asuran became huge commercial success because it had commercial elements filled with ground reality
