Never will forget this song. It was late March in 1968; I just finished basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio TX. A group of us went to the base bistro just inside the main gate for 3.2 beer and pizza. There was a jukebox in the bistro and I played The Look of Love by Dusty. I played it over and over missing my girlfriend who later became my wife. I now have a 1966 Seeburg Stereo Showcase in my basement bar and an original 45 Dusty Springfield recording of this song. It always brings me back to that wonderful cold late March day in Texas after going through a challenging six weeks of basic and enjoying friendship, 3.2 beer and below average pizza (for a New Jersey Italian) at the base bistro. I remember absolutely everything about that day and that moment which I will forever treasure.
I didn't look it up but it sounds like A Burt Bacharach song pretty sure . It fits what ever mood yer in Meghan check out her singing with Burt on House is not Home . Stellar ✌️❤️
Magic. No lip synching, no dubbing, no 'post' work. Just a woman with a great voice, amazing musicality and charisma, singing a great Bachrach song. And since she's a real singer, she doesn't have to stick the mike up in her face in order to be heard. She's taking good deep breaths, supporting her sound and making music.
Actually he only wrote the music: the music was written by Burt Bacharach, and was originally intended to be an instrumental. But later Hal David added the lyrics, and the song was published in 1967. Dusty Springfield first did the song, and everyone else followed.....
@@jonathanedwards8696 you can tell it is live because the music is different from the original recording, and pay attention to the sax solo. And she is definitely live.
Proves what I say (and what you say) you don't need that microphone stuck to your lips. I wish record producers would wake up to the fact that the public want to see the singers' faces not the arse-end of a microphone and some cable. Their face is a big contribution to their fortune.
I found 453 that covered this, including Dusty. But this is such a great rendition. And it was originally done as an instrumental, four months later this magical piece came out.
I remember this marvelous song from the movie Casino Royale in 1967. It was playing in the scene when Peter Sellers visited Ursula Andress in her apartment. That was among my favorite actors and scenes from the movie. And Thank you Dusty Springfield and Burt Bacharach.
As a child I saw that movie and besides Sellers quirkiness and Ursula's beauty, that scene made such an impression on me. Only later in life did I realize the song was a big part of it. I had zero appreciation for this incredible song, but I noticed it subconciously.
I saw her live 4 times - once with The Springfields, then for one of her BBC TV shoes ( Jimmy Ruffin guested), live at Drury Lane and at the Dame Edna taping. Wonderful!
How can she sing such a demanding vocal and make it look so effortless? Impossible! Yet she makes it possible. A vocal genius. Oh Dusty, they'll never be another like you.
I have to thank Dusty Springfield for helping me out of a very difficult time in my life. I was in my 30's and had heard and loved her singing this song. I couldn't get enough of it. At the same time, I was diagnosed with Acute Anxiety Syndrome and spent three months in the Institute of Living in Hartford, Connecticut working on my issue(s). I spent time in a "locked unit" but gradually along with my doctor at the hospital gradually worked on my problem and my way out of the unit and onto the open campus. On Saturday nights they had a singing contest for patients backed by a small group. I have a good singing voice for a normal human being and of course I chose The Look of Love. The lyrics are amazing and I tried to sing it like she did. I won the contest every Saturday and must have bored a lot of people but the way she sang/sings it right here seems to me like she was meant to sing it. No one else, just her owning it. The eloquence of her phrasing and the emotion that comes from her during her performance of this song makes me cry and feel happy at the same time. It is very therapeutic for me like a sweet drug without consequence. The song is about love, which I needed and got from her voice which for me exudes and promotes sensuality and sexuality. Both of those things I was dealing with at the time. To me she is so sensual and sexual in the way she performs this song, her voice is very smooth yet raw with emotion and draws you into it. Bacharach and David created this for her to sing and they were so right in their choice. So, thank you Dusty although you are not with us now. You helped me through a crucial time and this song brought me to a brand - new reality, a happy one and I am enjoying life still listening and watching you perform it like no one else could, ever, and enjoying great experiences in love and loving women because of you.
dude...spend some time realizing that there is no such thing as a normal human being and you will be amazed how your anxiety melts away....once you truly understand what that means.......
Amd she always sang "live" as opposed to miming. There are few people who did this. In fact, I can only think of the 5th Dimension and Rick Springfield.
dusty springfield is without doubt the best female singer the world as seen then now and always ,,what complete joy this beautiful woman as given me all these years ..thank you so much xxxxx
I’ve recently got into her music my god what I missed out on She’s a goddess who touches the soul and takes you away from these dreadful times She’s a dream maker who can stop reality and then return you a much happier person Taken to soon
Amen. And to think she wasn't really crazy about the song. Cut the track in three takes (very rare for Dusty as she was such a perfectionist in the studio and would sometimes record a track 40 times over before agreeing to a take).
The one and only Dusty Springfield! I wish I had been born a few years earlier. Probably would have seen this on T.V. along with all the other Great Performers of that era. Her delivery was impeccable, for someone to stand in front of a live audience and sing with such ease is a testament of true talent unmatched in this era.
I love this ever so much! Dusty was truly an original - and she is an archetype for so many of the soulful British ladies we're lucky to love today(Adele and Amy) Dusty is the first though. Definitely Dusty
It's not just talent that makes a singer. In addition to her amazing singing talent, Dusty expressed herself in singing with such soul! That makes all the difference between good and amazingly great. Her soul still coming through from her recorded performances even today. Thank you Dusty, you moved my soul with this performance.
From the time imfirstnheardnthismsong as a child it has never ceased to stir my heart the many times I've since heard it and I'm 60 now. One of the all time classics she was. Ad the mold was broken with her. That voice will always belong to her.
Live performances like these, performed by true, talented artists WITHOUT excessive backgrounds, dubbing, lip synching and whatever other sh!t current music stars need….it’s just breathtaking. What a voice! And perfect accompaniment! This is the best stuff YT offers the public. Oh…and cat videos.

What a great memory and how Dusty and her beautiful voice and song is forever part of it!
❤
My husband was in Vietnam during this time. It takes me back to that time ... beautiful song. Loved your story.
I adore this song, for some odd reason it makes me sad and happy at the same time. Anyone else? Anyway she’s amazing and I love her voice.
No not sad, romantic and sexy. Her voice is very full and rich. I love it.
i have tears of joy🥲
Makes me cry too!

I can't imagine anyone else in the world ever singing this as well as she did.
Diana Krall did a great job on the song - years later, of course.

You're right. Nobody can sing like her. My girl pitbull is named after her. I love her ❤
Her voice reminds me of silk. She was magical ❤
Nina Simone
Dusty owns this song. Nobody else
One of the greatest singers of all time.
One of the most beautiful voices in the history of pop music.
Just pure class. Beautiful, talented, gifted, didn’t have to perform half naked like today’s

Listening to this music makes me feel that the best days of our civilization may very well be behind us.
BEAUTIFUL! Nothing's better in music than when the right song meets the right voice.
🎶🎵Yessss Pure Love 🌹
Sublime. On top of the whole vocal color, musical phrasing and interpretation ... her pitch is amazing. Love her.
Absolutely, sopranosd. You know how hard it is to sing this well. She is so elegant tall, queenly. A lovely performance.
Yes, doesn't get any better. You say it well. Dusty at the top of her game. Made it look so easy, and maybe it was for her. Only one Dusty.
Che eleganza, sotto ogni aspetto!irripetibile
Dusty Springfield had the most smolderingly luscious voice of all time. I can listen to her sing forever!!!
Rest in peace sweet angel
Christ I would've loved to have heard her live in her heyday in an intimate venue. What a voice.
I saw her live 4 times - once with The Springfields, then for one of her BBC TV shoes ( Jimmy Ruffin guested), live at Drury Lane and at the Dame Edna taping. Wonderful!
Lucky man.
You and me both. We missed out. Thank God we at least have the music and videos.
Reason to brag and be thankful!
I know but sadly I never got the chance to hear her live.
I was singing this song in the kitchen and thinking how much my late mom loved it!! RIP

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT SONG FOR A NEW BOND FILM IN A RETRO STYLE. A RETRO STYLE SOUNDTRACK.
YOU CAN HEAR HER BREATH WHEN SHE SINGS......SHE IS RARE
Sexiest song ever. Without any explicit lyrics to boot.
When you have a great songwriter getting together with a singer like this, it's magic.

Best version was Janis Hansen/ Lani Hall and Brazil 66
and no boobs hanging out and short dresses....beautiful.
I was very young and it still touches me. So so pretty.
Sublime, hair, eyelashes, gown, hand motions, nails, her voice, the song, love it
She was absolutely the best in class. so talented, so musical, she really raised the bar. This country was so lucky to have her.
(:
She's hypnotizing!! Beautiful. What a voice and what phrasing.
The best version
