Some singers are technically wonderful but lack an emotional connection to the material. Some singers miss notes here and there but sell the performance with their interpretation of the lyrics. Dusty had it all- flawless vocals and a great storyteller. She truly was one of a kind. Performers nowadays should study tapes like this as a master class on how to simply stand on a bare stage and deliver it.

I agree 100%. she was an amazing singer and told stories through song which is what a good singer is supposed to do, and she gave a stellar show even while just standing in the same place. she made every performance her own which is why I love her so much

oj shilinski Yes! I've always loved Dame Shirley Bassey. I don't know how true it is, but someone said that the Welsh people are such good singers because of the way the Welsh language trains them to use their vocal chords. Whatever the reason, there are so many extraordinary singers from Wales!

I got to spend an evening with Dusty Springfield in 1966. She was in L.A. for something and my friend introduced me to her at a little club, where she sang a couple of songs for the audience. It was totally unannounced and completely wonderful. I remember after we left the club we went to Denny's and she asked for a cuppa tea (it was IRIS tea). Someone came up and asked her name; she looked down at the teabag, then looked up at the person and said, "I'm Iris!". What a hoot! GREAT lady. GREAT talent. Gone too soon!!!

The studio version with photos that someone added to enhance the emotional impact, But both versions are emotionally impactful. UA-cam " Glenn Campbell if you go away" let me know what you think. By the way, Glenn recently passed away , too. This was my favorite song by him.

Just imagine, if everyone who loves these vids went out and bought a CD or two of Dusty, think of the message it would send to the music companies. We could maybe have a revival of Dusty's music. Wouldn't that be great? Younger folks would soon be captivated as we were back in the day; and then, who knows? I think everyone should have a chance to hear this lovely lady sing and know how truly great she was.

I always come back to Dusty’s version. It was great in the 60’s and 70’s and still is today. The best English version by a female singer. That cry in her voice is perfect for this ballad. She does Jacques Brel great justice.
