Nice build! I've got a 1.4l Turbo Getz that is making 335hp at the wheels. If you're using pump fuel then the low octane is your problem if you want more power because you have to pull a lot of timing out at higher boost levels so you don't get detonation. Get a water meth kit or even better run an ethanol blend like E50 and you can run as much timing as your engine wants with as much boost as the internals will hold. It makes a huuuge difference. to put it in perspective, I only make around 170kw on around 1.1bar/16psi boost at 17degrees of timing on pump fuel but with E50 I can run 2bar/30psi of boost with 20 degrees of timing and make 250kw+. You engine is direct injection though so you should be able to get away with higher boost and timing on pump fuel. Even a water meth kit will make a big difference
Yeah I spoke to Bart about running ethanol. It was gonna be a segment in this video, maybe I should’ve kept it in 😂 We need to sort out a couple things that are wrong with the car like our PCV system - we’ll install an oil catch can setup. Then look into fixing the boost leak - maybe it’s the BOV or boost tap? Plus that noise my turbo makes… we might need to do a rebuild on it 😂
awwwh man, what a punch in the face! Guess it's time to do a full rebuild whilst you're at it with forged internals and up the boost, no more misfires and lack of horsepower then !
I think it might be worth doing another dyno before we forge it, we have a bit of a game plan for what we can do to get it running better on stock internals.
Sharing the same sentiments as some of the others here You have spent mega time and effort into this build! Instead of changing tuners, rather spend way more time on logging requested vs actual of ALL Parameters (Boost, Timing, Fueling etc.) Perform the relevant hardware checks as well (Boost Leak, Compression etc.) The requested vs actual boost is pointing to hardware rather than software so I am sure you may find your missing ponies there Keep it up! Really loving such a different build
I’m still sticking with EtunersColumbia, we’ll try a stock DV setup and run new logs to see if this fixes our issue Should get to the bottom of it soon :) thanks for the advice
Ah gutting bro, hope you sort out the problem soon! This is really interesting to find out as I'll eventually be going to stage 3 on my 1.4 at some point so it's good to know the ins and outs!
Yeah I’m trying be as transparent as possible with the build. Next time we dyno it, I’ll have a camera on the boost gauge and hopefully data logs running too
I have the same problem with the whining coming from the stock turbo on my car so whatever it is hopefully I can apply on my car. Great video as always 👌🏽👌🏽
I hope you can find your leak problem bro, etuners numbers doesn't fail 🤔. The stock intercooler may be an obstruction for sure, but still can run this 280whp that they promise. Dont give up!
Yeah the car was not running right on this day. I can confirm we’ve gone up in boost a good amount since this dyno, so if I had to estimate were maybe around 260bhp now. But it’s hard to say because of the boost leak… sometimes the car performs really well, and other times it’s not making much boost. But we’ll get to the bottom of this, hopefully proving that their numbers are legit 😎

Yeah, possibly could mean your turbo is on it's way out... We will try a couple of things, but if they don't work - we'll do a turbo rebuild on my IS20
Man I used to have a scirocco (not this engine, the 160hp twincharged) and the rtmg bov was leaking on me too. I switched to gfb and everything cleared up. Consider a GFB bov it is very worth for the money

As i said few videos before, rip off these aftermarket BOV and try installing stock IS20 or every other IS turbo Diverter Valve, should do the job and the turbo should spool quicker!
So your turbo runs max boost at 4000 rpm and then just falls on its face sadly if you can get either a tune of whatever to hold that boost you can easy get more hp. So on your dyno you made 226hp at ≈6000rpm So hp calculator is Torque x rpm = hp Your peak torque is 240 but at 6000 around 198 so 198 x 6000 = 1188000 : 5252 = 226 hp so if you get the torque too last longer at higher rpm then more hp :) 240 lbs of torque at 6000 rpm would be around 274Hp
Thank you for the explanation! We’ve been tweaking a few things and I believe we might’ve found a way to hold higher boost past 4000rpm! Couple more improvements and I reckon we could hit our target. We without a doubt are running more torque across the whole rev range now with the newest tune.
No hate? But all that effort I’m running a 140hp model. Different compression ratio. And I’m running 21psi on stock turbo. I’ve seen is20 etc fitted to these and they make 280-300hp. Something not right there. But get rid of the blow off valve and boost tap. Mine ran like shit and lost boost while driving. Can’t see from idle. But most Dyno recommend taking bov off for dyno
Yes, on a low-boost map unfortunately, with a possible failing turbo and maybe a boost leak :( We'll be back to dyno it again once we sort the boost leak out, or whatever is going wrong with the turbo...
It’s such a bad idea to remove the diverter/blow off completely, you do understand what they do? You can cause turbo failure by doing this Vws are notorious for not liking blow off valves, stick with the oem diverter valve and you will be issue free
boosting for engagement love the content, imagine i found a 290rs on facebook from dec9th ... 550 aud, 290 gbp+ shipping..... thats crazy and i get to keep the stock turbo but 🙌🙌🙌 thx for putting out the content. may i suggest a front strut bar i have seen it should improve handling and road feel alot in a good way along with an anti roll bar for the rear and maybe front now that the car is banging you wanna be able to carry the speed better atleast thats what i am hoping to do. praying the guy hasnt sold the turbo in 8 weeks and its not as crazy as what youve done but

you know that beep sound when u hit max boost at 2:17 does that mean the turbos on its way out? i got the same sound on my 1.2 tsi
Yeah, possibly could mean your turbo is on it's way out...
We will try a couple of things, but if they don't work - we'll do a turbo rebuild on my IS20
told that the pressures on regular valves and hoses are too strong, that's why its becoming hard to maintain high pressures
The boost tap spacer under the MAP is bad. Heat soaks IATs and probably skews boost readings leading to issues with tune and how the car runs
Will be going back to a stock DV and no boost tap spacer temporarily: to see if this fixes our issue.

We suspect it was something to do with fueling, we've since changed the map and installed colder spark plugs - there have been zero misfires since.
