When are you too old to become a pilot? In my opinion there is no perfect age to become a pilot. It depends on your desires and personal goals. Besides, it also depends on a person’s financial situation.
Starting the pilot training at a young age will lead to a number of benefits. For example, you can really build an extensive pilot career before retirement. Basically you can make the most out of it. Since you will gain a lot of experience there is a big chance you will become a Line Training Captain, Base Captain, Type Rating Instructor or you might end up in some post holder position.
The disadvantage about being young though, is that without any other completed study, you are committed to ‘becoming a pilot’. If you lose your medical certificate you end up with no backup.
In my opinion you are never too old to become a pilot. If money isn’t an issue, there is only one thing which is limiting and that is the medical. To give you an example, my grandfather gained his Private Pilot License when he was 74 years old! Can you imagine? As long as you are healthy and fit you can become a pilot.
It is a different story when you want to become an airline pilot since you have to be hired by a company. Most companies look for employees that will stay with them for their entire (or a big part of) their career. This has to do with the investment a company has to make in order to train its pilots.

I am 41 and have assessment invites for two major European airlines next week :P. Those are for my very first job as a commercial pilot. So as DutchPilotGirl says: keep focussed, top fit and DEDICATED (and very resilient against disappointing moments) and everything is possible!

unfortunatly i had not the opportunity of rich parents...so i have been working very hard the last years and safe every penny for my atpl and type-rating.------> atpl finished in the end of october 2017-------> 2 month later i passed the assessment.... I still can't believe it... :D

CLM , as DutchPilotGirl said, it’s harder, not impossible. The comments on this video also state that people much older than you (including me) still are able to get their dreams reality. But as we all say, you have to be extremely dedicated. So we can’t tell you, “do it or don’t”, it’s entirely up to your personal situation. I think your age is at the moment not a major issue. But... the market is good now, no one knows how it will be at the moment you have finished. It’s like a stock-market... so if you really want to pursue this, look carefully which school you choose. Many airlines have cadet programs now, or go for one that has good connections with airlines. Where are you from? I am willing to advise you, PM me if you want.

I am 78 years old and I have no hope of ever being able to fly a real airplane, but I really want to fly in a professional flight simulator on a Boeing 737 to have the sensations. In view of this I am training on my computer with X-Plane. For the moment I only do runs (opstijgen en landen) with almost always perfect landing! Which encourages me a lot.

I second that. Although not the first time I hear this. I read a book from a pensioner, who was bored after retirement and became a private pilot. Author: Helmut Rathert, Title: "Flieg,Großvater, flieg!". Nowadays only available in second-hand market, but still a lot of fun to read.

31? Maybe 10-15 years ago but I don't think that's true these days. More and more people these days are starting their training from zero hours in their late 20s, early/mid 30s. In my flying school (Australia) most students I've come across is in this age group. Things are different in various part of the world but a blank statement saying most airlines don't hire above 31 years of age is unnecessarily discouraging and simply not true.

I turned 29 in december and I just started. If you've got your head on straight, I don't think it'll be THAT difficult to find a job in the near future, especially with the growing pilot shortage in the "western world". Obviously, it might be a little trickier if you're going to big-airline route, but there's so many different paths to chose. Some might go the business route, some are happy with regional airliners, some want to do bush-flying, then there's also surveying, crop dusting etc.

Later had an opportunity to become a military pilot in my 20s ..
It didn't work out as planned for various reasons ..
This year I plan to get my private certificate ..
I have no desire to fly for the airlines or even charted service ..
My goal is to own and fly my own private business jet ..
    Either a Premier 1A or a Phenom 300 ..

I actually learned some companies prefer hiring pilots a little older, like between 30 and 40 because of maturity. I heard stories of first officers becoming captains as young as 24, but it's such a big responsibility to put a plane with hundreds of lives on the hands of someone so young, I think the sweetspot for companies should be people in their 30's to be honest. If I am on a plane and you tell me my captain is a 50 year old with plenty of experience, I surely would feel safer than hearing its a 25 young dude, even knowing all the training there is to be becoming a pilot, surely feels safer flying with someone older on the cockpit. I'm really glad to hear people getting hired after 30 or 40s.

Teaching people is a gift - not everyone can teach. That's especially true in Aviation. Just because someone has x years in an Airline does not automatically mean they are suitable and qualified for any of the positions you've mentioned.
The "Job for life" is no longer true except for a very small group of Pilots. These days as a Pilot you are just a commodity.

Hello Captain, not a video but still advise: join a glider-club! It sets a very good basis for your further career desires. You'll learn to fly, you'll learn what dedication is, you'll learn to get responsibility, you'll build a network etc. Then start saving: big time! Get a spare-time job in the supermarket or so. You won't be able to save up all you need, but with a good positive balance, you'll get a loan much faster. And last bit not least: keep that spirit and dedication!

I’m not sure what a minimum age is, but at least a pilot in training is recommended to go fly the 737-800 simulator at American Airlines. The program is called ATOPJets.com, Airline Training Orientation Program. You will spend a day learning systems, and the next day two hours in the simulator, the first observing other teams, or flying , and being a co-pilot one session, and pilot in the next session, or v.v. Each weekend this is offered, only 8 pilots are on the schedule; the course fills up about 7-8 months or more in advance, so it gives you time to save up ($495.00). Of course, you have to get there and stay in the Candlewood Suites, where most of the attendees stay. Wayne Phillips, who writes for Flight Training magazine, is the organizer and instructor, a former airline pilot, and a great enthusiastic teacher. This is a great line item on your flying resume for an airline interview, which may be a few years down the road. I’ve done both the 737-800 at AA and the Airbus 320 (at Jet Blue University) and it was just a great experience. Since I’m working on being a Flight Instructor, and already am an Advanced Ground and Instrument Ground Instructor, this experience gave me a professional flying perspective for my students. You can FLY! 😎

The U-boot behind you does remind me of this soundtrack: ua-cam.com/video/tUy_zDY4e18/v-deo.html
When TMF and The Box where on dutch television, this song/soundtrack was played alot by the end of the 90's . Great memories are coming back ;-)

Hey, I am young, passionate about becoming a pilot and good at both maths and physics, although I can't afford it. Can u have a video or at least answer my question on what to do or if I can become one?

Khalid Abdulghani if u cannot get in a cadet programme with one of the airlines then you'll have to work for it. Get a job save money and pay for your training that's the hard way

I'm just going by your name, I hope you don't mind, but if your academics are good and funds are short, see about the RSAF. You'll be able to fly both American *and* British aircraft and military flight training does a lot with a little time.

Good video but the massive issue with becoming a pilot is the money. Flight school and pilot training can easily tack up into the tens of thousands.

Hello Michelle how do You do ? Thank You very much for your video. And beside for me The Age is important for the Airlines Who carry Passengers from one point to another. However ; as You told in the video , it is not impossible to be an Airline Pilot at any age if You arte healthy. Beside I am the supporter of young ages rather than the middle age pilots. And I submitted to your Giveaway Entry. I wish Good Luck to every one.

31?! Wow! Would you say that’s generally just the case in Europe? I’m from the U.S. so hopefully there’s some wiggle room with age haha! All the pilots I’ve worked with (I’m a flight attendant) told me I’m definitely not too old. I should have my commercial license by the time I’m 31 in April. And hopefully get hired by a small regional airline by the time I’m 33, latest! Those are my goals anyway 😬
