Thanks for the video Capt. I must be the one who requested this video before. I started my schooling 4years ago. Then 2years ago, Covid pandemic came. Im forced to survival mode until now. Its good I got my PPL, passed my CPL exams but forced to stop my career since I have a family to feed and there was no opputunity in aviation. Now just watching your video. Hope this pandemic be over soon. Safe skies Capt.
Thank you so much for your video, it gave me the courage to seriously consider pursuiting this idea
WOW! New for me....thank you for video :)
Ive done the same thing, started flight training at the age of 17 (minimum required age in the Netherlands), finished when l was 19. Started to apply for jobs everywhere but without luck unfortunately. Then l decided to increase my chances of getting a job by doing a private typerating for the A320. Luckily during my typerating, l met a representative of an airline who was doing their assessments in the same sim center in Holland. l was lucky and managed to secure an assessment with them and got hired as a F/O, based in Istanbul shortly after finishing my base training at the age of 20.
Im 24 now and with my second airline, based in Hong Kong. My point is that you're absolutely right about moving to where the job is. I'm from Holland and would love to work there, but unfortunately there are no jobs here at the moment. So l had to move literally to the other side of the world just to be able to fly. Had l been a family man, this would be impossible, also because the salary, though much higher than in Europe, is still being used to pay back my flight training loan, which including the type rating is totaling in excess of 120.000 Euro's.
You got a loan to do a type rating in an A320?!?! I admire your balls, and I'm glad it paid off for you. Around 10 years ago a colleague of mine did the same thing in his 30s but unfortunately never managed to find a job as a pilot.
I absolutely love your videos!
Great video mate
you are the best ,thank you
When you made this video I was in the SEVEREST most UNSTABLE part of my illness. Maybe something you would'nt think of approaching. But 4 years later I'm onThe Sick Side Of The Fence! No Delusions of flying as a Commercial Pilot, but HOPEFULLY I am in the process of Applying for The Douglas Bader Disability Flying Scholarship. That's the RAF fighter pilot who shot down Jerry in WW2. Was shot down twice. First loosing his legs, told he would fly a desk. But RAF was so desperate for pilots, and he was Very Experienced. Put back in the cockpit and got shot down again over Europe. Taken Prisoner. At wars end Came back to the UK and ended up flying the rest of his life in commercial Airliners. He was'nt ill as I am. Just missing two legs. THAT SHOULD'NT STOP ANYBODY FROM ENJOYING WATCHING PLANES OR HOPING AND DREAMING TO FLY IN THEM!
Thanks Petter, it’s your vlog that got me into flying (sim of course, B737-800). Love every bit of it, and love your channel!
Love your ”it’s no dance on roses” which is a Swedish expression :).
Again, Thanks for the fantastic channel.
Thank you for supporting the channel! I’m so happy that people like you like what I am doing.
Thank you so much for this video. I am 25 years old, and I want to start my training to become a commercial pilot and you gave me more than hope today through this video. I know It's a bit just but nothing is impossible.
Are you now a commercial pilot?

I missed it! But in my dreams I can fly ✈️✈️✈️✈️

I have a quetion after performing my entire flight training im planning to by an type training+ line training because anyway i worry about my age a bit and i wanna get job so soon as possible after the training, what do you think about ? is it a good option ? I'll be grateful to you if I get any advice from you
Leonel Linares does having 1,710 flight hours help? I have that but don’t have my Commercial license yet.
Hi captain ! sounded like we are about to hijack something lol .
Can you make a video on the need for pilots in europe during the coming period of time ( 2022 on ) , if not please share how we can do our own research for that , and if you can explain more about the cadet pilot programs , when it comes to numbers or opportunities and what are the odd of getting a spot in those programs . one more thing , im lebanese would that make it harder for me to compete and land a job in a european airliner . I hope to hear from you soon in a lovely video . thanks a lot
Most people are not too old, but too poor to be pilots:/
+NetAndyCz It's a sad but true fact.
You can earn upto 40 years and be a pilot if you have hunger to become a pilot.MAKE NO EXCUSES.DON'T SAY YOU DON'T HAVE MONEY,DON'T SAY YOU DON'T HAVE TIME.DONOT MAKE EXCUSUES.GET YOU ASS UP AND STARTING WORKING ON IT.

Thanks for the infos. I'm Brazilian and am preparing myself to start my training at Hillsboro Aero Academy (PP+IFR+PC+MULTI+CFI+CFII+MEI), with the possibility to work as flight instructor for 2 years, accumulating 1000 - 2000 flight hours. I'm 46 years old, but flexible to move to anywhere in the world. Hope to be hired by some company with no such restrictive age limits. Hope to succeed! Thanks again!
Hi, I’m Brazilian and 46 too, living in the US and thinking about change my career and start a pilot career from zero. I would love to know how your experience was. Abraço!
I just turned 33 and I am left with just CPL to do. However due to my age I'm contemplating if I should do it. This video makes me want to just go for it!
33 is fine...could be with aiines by 40 and have a 25 year career
Most skilled jobs demand that newbies move around. I'm a American computer guy. Fresh out of school I had to take a job 1500 miles away. It took me a decade to work where I wanted.
Do you have time for Prepare 3D or FSX? Do you have your own simulator?
Hello Petter,
I have a question please, i'm 36 years old and i would like to start an Ab-Inition Training within a Center with a Worldwild reputation, is it too late for me or not? thank you for your response and for all your videos .
Very interesting video! I got my PPL license at 35 and some time later I decided to go forward and started my ATPL training. I got my frozen ATPL with good results when I was 41 and then I moved to Oxford to do my MCC-JOC. I've applied to some companies, but most require many flight hours and TR. In Europe I only know about Ryanair that offers a cadet program. Most of my friends were called, passed the assessment, and got hired, but I'm still waiting for a call. I'm afraid this is related to my age and it's a shame, as I know I can do the job as well as some one 10 years younger.
Mentour Pilot Sure I will! Thanks a lot for your reply and motivating vídeos. BTW I think to remember to see you at the airport while I was doing my training. ;)
DreamboyCat, did you ever get work on some airline?
Did you got a job ?

I'm 24, and in my class at university, we have some students in their mid 30’s studying, the eldest is almost 40.
Thanks for not killing my dream! To still have a backup plan in case my pilot training and career doesn't work out, I am currently studying aviation engineering at university and want to work in an aviation-related job or in the Air Force before I start the ATPL training. At least if everything goes as planned, I’ll be in my early 30’s. I guess it can also be of advantage when most people would consider you as “too old” for that career. I mean… you bring 10 to 15 more years of life experience in your flight school class and see things probably from a different aspect than your younger classmates.
So are you a pilot yet
@@thebigint-hw1on I have the eye examination for my medical in two weeks. I’m planning to have my assessment in March/April, so if I pass then I could start school in October or November. I have joined the Air Force currently serving until April 2024.
Sorry it cut. To keep it short, my experience would classify me somewhere along the lines as an aviation consultant (I can email you my resume or add you to LinkedIn if you're interested). How can I become an airline pilot by my own means and eventually leave my work to make it full time. I'm 36. Id like to have a deeper discussion with you to know what you think.
Well, My first demo I had done in Santa Barbara, CA was when I was just14yo. I piloted a Cessna C-150D. It was FUN, especially only being a child! Then my family fell into poverty as McDonnell Douglas had cheated my dad out of his normal pension of USD2000 monthly to a mere USD120, monthly! Thus I had to place my dream job ever since until very recently onto to the back burner.
Now about two years ago I watched a VERY discouraging video on the upper age limit of 65 for the States and for all of Europe for the ATP rating. Then at the end of this one video was stated that there are (were?) 7 countries that did (or hopefully still do) have NO upper age restrictions. I can't remember all of them, but I do remember 5 out of the 7. Namely Australia, Brasil, Canada, Russia, and Surinam. (I wish I could remember the other 2 countries!)
Are you aware of this, is it true, or more importantly still true today that there are 7 (maybe less now) countries that are not subject to this 65 year cap? This has to do with whether it would be worth as to pursue my dream, as it has NOT died, as it has become even more 'venomous' the aviation bug now?
I have enjoyed your programmes over the years on YT. I had bought 2 shirts, the original 'Positive Attitude' and just recently the red shirt with the yellow warning triangle about a talkative aviation buff! The first shirt had to be cut off oof me in hospital in London for a double fracture in my humerus bone in my right arm as too many tourists 'shoved' me down these century and a half steps at Piccadilly Circus Tube for London station. That is now past history as it had taken me 2 months for that to fully recover.
One day i would like to meet you if you are at some future airshow event or the like. Thanks!
I am definitely not too old to start, I am just fresh out of university, but whether I will be able to make those personal life stability sacrifices for an airline job is really hard to know right now, especially when it comes to physical location. I will at least complete private pilot training for my own personal sake once I have the means to, hopefully in the near future, everything else is up in the air though (excuse the pun).
Did you start your private pilot training already?
What if you become a pilot for an airline that is originated from where you live? For example if your family lives in Dubai and you fly for Emirates, would you have to move somewhere else or stay here after every trip? thank you :D
Just ran across your videos and subscribed...good stuff. Question...I am 54 years old and just got a job a few months ago flying charter. I am working on my ATP and have plenty of hours for the rating. I'm just trying to get the money for the ATP-CTP course. I'm trying to build my turbine time and eventually jet time with my current job. I do however have a glitch in my past which is the reason for my question.
I was arrested back in 2011 for flying drugs. It was a bad time in my life and I have no excuse. I got 3 years probation and was let off early for good behavior. I've never been in trouble before or since the incident. After withholding my medical and me having to submit 3 letters of explanation AND get a psychiatric evaluation...the FAA saw their way clear to allow me to keep ALL my ratings including my CFI, CFII, and MEI ratings. The company I work for knows about my arrest and the chief pilots comment was..."you seem like a good guy that made a mistake and needs a break. I'm going to give you that break. And he hired me.
So my question is this. Although it is very possible for me to have a fairly lucrative career where I fly because there are plenty of airplanes all the way from Cessna T210, King Air 90 and 200's, and even a Citation jet. Having said that it's like you say… The schedule is horrible because you don't find out if you're flying until the day before! Eventually I would like to get on with a major airline or even the "corporate" gig. I know flying is also a lot about who you know. Do you think there's even a chance for me to get a flying job with either a major airline or a corporation? What about overseas? Are their policies on Felonise more stringent? I know that Canada has a policy where they will not admit a felon in but after five years you can get it exonerated by paying a fee and filling out some paperwork. How was that on an international level? Sorry and advance for the long questions… LOL! Looking forward to your response!
Curious how it turned out for you now?
hey was just wondering is there much hassel with having tattoos when trying to get hired by airline? i have tattoos but all above my elbows that can be hidden fully with long sleeve shirt, would that be any trouble?
thank you
Is it 7 years with out university or with uni
When you're airborne, do you get to talk and chat and chill about stuff while monitoring your instruments?
Yes once your usually at cruising altitude..otherwise its a sterile cockpit..all yalk relating to the flight
Hi there,
I'm 40+ and want to pursue flying as career, I am told that the chances of getting job are low because of age factor, younger pilots are mostly preferred. What is your suggestion.
R u from India?
Hi there Mentour Pilot, thank you for the very helpful videos.
I am a 36 years old woman, just had my first flight experience ever, and I am in love with idea of becoming a pilot. I don"t have a college degree because I haven't find a profession I would be really interested in until now. I am running against time here. Is it possible to get a commercial pilot license( hands on flying hours) and a Bachelor degree at the same time, in one single school? USA?
I am single, no kids, a truck driver, a traveler already :) so.. is it too late for me? will I be able to be enjoying my pilot career when I am around 45 years old with a reasonable salary ? Where should I start? Whats the fastest way?
Thank you!
Catiana did you become a pilot???? Because if you did, I have a few questions if you.
Do airline companies consider you reaching 65 when applying? Say you are 55, and they think there's no perspective in you.
do I have to stop though at 65? I'm 47 now and about to start. thnx
How did it go? Are you working now?
Fell in love with Thailand now I'm living here and flying higher than any plane can take me. 🙏🏻
@@ThaiTastic don't planes fly over any surfaces on earth?
I'm paid pretty well and I'm about floe to getting my cpl. Do you think it's wise to maintain my current employment while paying for hours? Also I have a technical college degree in aircraft maintenance engineering. I've also done many different types of work in the industry from ground handling to operations
Could you help me that how can fATPL holder with 220 hour increase flying hour if he can not apply any job without experience. i do not want FI because of my age it is 38, can not spend mor 2-3 year in flight instructor.
Hi, thanks for your reply, i think p2f can give me 500 TR which is still low hour then 1500 hour and what about 1000 pic. The situation is going worst, for your first job u need
1000 PIC
you need TR.
you need line training
f**..how can i deal with that?
ok and TR is i think 500 hour, So 220+500= 720 hour, after what should i do?
So as of now, European airlines do not require a college/university diploma?
No
I am 20 years old
Can I be a pilot with ligament injury
Nobodys too old to be a pilot
im 47. money isnt really an issue. i always wanted to fly, but i sold out for software. is it too late?
Not too late my friend 65 is required retirement if you bust your ass off you can definitely have a solid 10 year career with the Regionals as a Captain with 100k a year
I'm 35 years old from Israel and watching this video in 2020.
Dreaming about becoming a pilot.

Biggest regret of my life, over 30 and life ruined over the "dream". My advice is to think carefully if its worth your financial future. Mentor flies for Ryanair and they only recruit old guys to meet the quotas, over 90% are young recruits.
+rafarafina Sorry to hear that my friend. I'm sure you haven't exhaust all Orion's yet though. Keep at it!
Is it not ILLEGAL to ask your age on an application there in Europe? What kind of a terrible place is that? At least here in the US and also in Canada it is ILLEGAL, due to the strict anti age-discrimination laws!
I am an older person (will not disclose my age on the forum, for obvious reasons) going through training right now (instrument) and hope to get my CPL, Multi and Flight instructor ratings by the end of the year. Then work for about 1 to 1.5 years as a flight instructor to build the 1500 hrs required to join a regional airline.
In my case, I have always dreamed of being a pilot, ever since my first flight as a young kid on an Airbus, and the "feeling of flight", but as many have pointed out, the REALITY OF THE EXTREMELY UNAFFORDABLE COST OF FLIGHT TRAINING, made this an impossibility right after finishing high school.
I worked in finance and real estate, a career I was fairly successful at, but got no personal satisfaction from. A year back, I graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and so have something to "fall back on". But you only live one life, and so I decided to make a go for it in aviation!
The other thing is, here in the US, there is a severe shortage of pilots in the regional airlines due to the low salaries. So I don't think they can afford to be picky. The fact that I am very fit (go to the gym 6 days a week and eat very healthy), and look a ton younger than my real age, is a big plus too (not that I think it matters anyway, here in the US, due to the shortage, but still).
do you 100% need a 4 year college degree to get hired by an airline ??
thank you:)
Well I am 20 so I guess I am good.
hi. I'm 38 years old. am I too old to start a career as a pilot?
Same situation here! 39 with family
What do you think considering the actual situation of the business??
Never knew what i wanted in my life.. till now.
Depends on what you wanna do
