"We moved Kizmit to the only room with walls she couldn't chew through"
Kizmet at 3:36 " Is that a challenge?"
Also, when our goats flip over their water bowls for fun in winter, we found settling it deep in the bedding (while being careful of the electricity) and moving the water bowl further away from the door helped keep the water bowl accessible while not freezing the door shut.
I kept my bearded dragon warm using animal shipping heat packs (used for transporting animals) for a week while I was out of power. Thankfully she did great and is back in her normal enclosure and is back to her normal routine.
Many years ago I had a bearded dragon that I thought had died in the cold. Moving the enclosure away from the window and waiting until I got back to work to decide what I was going to do brought him back.
It looks like it ha been a challenging time for you all! Hope all the animals are okay! Make sure you look after yourselves too! 😊
i saw ur comment on each and every video of the channels i m subscribed too . except snake discovery i suggest u too check 'em out too!!!

Please do a meet and greet with Gwendolyn soon!!! You're doing great work, Jessi and team!
Yeah Turkey Vultures are very cool so a video about Gwendolyn would be very nice to see.
yes please
Are you self-sufficient when the power is down ? For how long ? It may be too technical for your audience, but I would be interested in a video about the tech side of things at Animal wonders : power system and generators, ventilation, water, etc.
Thank you for your condolences on the animals lives that were lost in the cold snap. And also thank you for taking such care for your animal ambassadors, and tell Augusto and Taylor I said thank you for there help too!
If you hang a roll of kraft paper on the wall behind the hawks pen trap door. Then feed it on that board from behind. Couldn't you paper the box so the poop doesn't make a mess in winter?
Ah, great idea!!
That must be amazing to have a beaver happily sit in your lap like that. :)
Ikr it would be amazing
Huckleberry has become the prince of this channel
i'm sooooo excited to learn more about gwen in the future!
I know of people who's pets froze to death in Texas last week.
Not just the pets but some of the people too.☹️
Me too 😢 it breaks my heart. Poor babies 💜
Ringo wanted to wash his sheets lol xD
What a silly racoon hahaha
Don't think we've met Gwen yet. This was fun to see. Great work, Jessi, Augusto, Taylor, and whoever else is there helping!!
The most amusing thing for me was listening to Kizzie and Huckleberry cronching their cameos. Jessie was laying put the info to a chorus of chomp cruch chomp crunch.
Im interested in hearing about Gwen. We have turkey vultures here in the midwest that are experienced with the cold. Curious to hear where she hales from that is different. Not surprised to hear there a various adaptations for such a wide ranging bird species.
When -9°C are mild... (Thanks for adding Celsius, btw^^)
-9°C to -15°C do occur where I live, but that's definitely on the cold end...
Hi Jessi! I was just wanting a meet and greet with Gwendolyn and an update with scarlet the macaw, sugar gliders, and the cavys and the rest of the animals in the romping room thanks
Ringo ice-sculptures... I'm sure there's a arty way to turn that into a Patron or P4A perk 😂😍
Your channel is so helpful and fun! I love watching your videos, because your personality is just amazing! I love watching all the video, especially the bird ones! Thanks for being a great UA-cam creator!
Its party parrot but its colored to be a green cheek conure
Loved this look into how a sanctuary needs to prepare and problem solve to a cold snap! Thank you!!
I'd love to hear about Gwendolyn's story and how you're caring for a vulture! So glad you've been able to keep everybody safe :)
I'm so happy to hear that Ringo is causing problems on purpose
And it's seriously so creative and impressive how you managed this situation.
I love the way you sound! You’re so informed and your voice is so kind, I love all your videos :)
I have a betta fish. While I keep her water at 76-78F normally, I know that she should be relatively safe even if her water slowly drops to about 60F in an emergency. It takes longer for water to cool down than air, so even if I lost power, she could be safe for up to a few days, so long as I could keep the external environment warm enough. Bettas are pretty forgiving when it comes to water quality, and she's in a 5 gal planted aquarium, so the lack of filtration shouldn't be a problem either.
Were I to lose power for more than about 2 days, or my apartment dropped below 55F (which ever came first), I'd be leaving anyway, so I'd take her with me. I have a 2.5 gallon jug that I use for water changes, so I'd put her in there with some tank water. I'd bring a plastic cup, her food, her tank thermometer, and tap water conditioner with me so that I could hopefully exchange some of the cold water for warmer water via the tap. Though I probably wouldn't take the tank heater because it wouldn't be safe to use in the jug that I have.
Gwen looks so great! I remember back in college my heater broke so I wrapped my bettas tank in my scarf. A bit silly
In my part of Texas, we do get freezing temperatures in the winter, mostly at night, but nothing on the order of last week. Thank you for your compassion!
I would give my life for huckleberry. I didn’t know beavers were so cute T-T
A turkey vulture! They are one of my favorite types of birds (a little weird perhaps, but I think they’re fascinating). I’m looking forward to an eventual meet and greet video with Gwendolyn. 😊
I love the little title cards and species for animals you do btw. This is older so not sure you'll see, but it really helps not just search the animal on UA-cam, but also on Google to learn more specifically about their species.
I loved how the zoo on Waco moved their pelicans (all I could think of was Hank Green lol) and other birds into bathrooms!
We've had a mild winter in New England (nothing below double digits) which has been nice, and we even had snow this year (last year was a dud, I was even fighting seasonal allergies at this time).
Glad all your animals are safe! Can't wait to meet Gwen!
Maybe getting a bowl that mounts to the cage wall would work for Ringo.
Thank you for including temperatures in celsius!
huckleberry is so big and beautiful, i always remember him as a tiny baby
I'm also thinking of animals that love the cold. Like those poor husky dog owners that can't get them to come back inside. lol
I absolutely adore Gwendolyn! Turkey vultures are some of my favorite birds; will Gwen be available to sponsor in the future?
Thank you Jesse and everyone at Animal Wonders. Your dedication is astounding!
I’m so glad you guys were able to keep all the animals warm! It’s so cool you got a turkey vulture! I have some near me and it’s always so cool to get to see them circling around the fields. Thank you so much if you do a meet and greet with her!
I havent watched in a while but I’m glad everyone is doing good in the winter! And there’s a vulture named Gwen I love that so much what a good bird!
I love you waiting for 1M subs but I hope in the future you will have 💯 M subs
Thank you for taking such good care of the animals!
I'm glad all the animals are ok.
I never knew you had a turkey vulture! How cool. Love to you..stay safe!
Farmers in European mountains would keep their animals and themselves warm by keeping their animals in their houses in earlier times. That also caused the first diseases to cross over between humans and their animals ...
Thank you very much! Stay safe and well!
God Bless you all for what you do!
Ringo: Your carefully-laid plans mean nothing to me!
Hawk pro-tip(maybe?) How about using a staple -gun to hold either sheets of newspapers (3-5 layers?) or plastic sheets like cut open trash bags as a sort of temporary wallpaper. Either could be pulled down in the morning as a quick clean up vs trying to scrub down the wooden walls. What do you think, am I on to something here?! I'd be slightly concerned with plastic, I don't know if the hawk would be tempted t chew it...
At least you don't have to roll in horse manure like Giant Pandas to stay warm.
Only feel warm, doesn't actually make them warmer.
@@IMortage You both watched the same video. Why correct them?
@@rayhs1984 because other people read these comments? And I'd rather they walk away with the full picture, or at least a mostly correct one.
So much work! Goodness gracious.
Animals in captivity be like: how do I inadvertently make my life more difficult On Purpose
Thank you for making this video! I look forward to learning more about Gwendolyn.
Really good ideas
I love your videos! You have a lot of animals and care for all of them!
Hi Jessi I really like want you do to keep the animals save I'm pravalika from india and I really like your channel and I have a 2 year old female Alexander parrot its name is bitu by the way
Stay warm, little guys!
I hope the animals are cozy and warm now
love, anna
I never realized how tricky it is to keep your animals comfortable and safe.
5:45 New friend?
5:48 BABYYYYYYYYYY
I LOVE VULTURES
I own an aquarium with tropical fish that needs their water at around 26 degrees Celsius.
Now winter isn't a problem since tropical fish require a heater anyway, however we had a heat wave the second summer after I got the aquarium and the temperature indoors reached 30 degrees, and so did the aquarium water temperature.
I had to fill tupperwares with aquarium water and freeze it, then put the iceberg into the aquarium to keep the water temperature down. The heat wave lasted almost a week. One fish got sick and died shortly after, however I'm not 100% sure it was due to the water temperature.
The next summer I had air conditioning installed.
Oh, I hope you guys are staying safe!!!!!
Kizmit is just so cute!!
oh wow a vulture! that's so cool! can't wait to meet gwendolyn :)
this video was very interesting to me, living in australia i don't need worry about extreme cold, snow pretty much never happens unless you live in the mountains BUT we do have to worry about extreme heat which brings it's own set of challenges
Iive in norway and what I do for my birds in the winter (lovebirds) I pull their cage away from the window and put it near the space heater but not too close, 2 meters away, they still get the heat, but not too much, keeping them warm and safe!
I have a rabbit I took in 3 years ago..Petey...and I feed his wild cousins in the winter with some of the Italian dandelion I buy over the winter. I call it his donation to his kind. I know they have been there because of the tracks...I put it under a cedar at the front of my house, because under the tree you can feed without having something eat you, and rabbits are very paranoid of that...so a safe place is key.
always 👍👍👍👍
Ok turkey vultures are so darn cute
Great work, wishing you all the best!
Soo good . . . I love animals
JESSIE LUV UR VIDEOS do a update on all the rabbits been a while since I have seen the rabbits. Also chili pepper who is so cute I have 2 guinea pigs that are super cute. Lucky me in California doesn't have snow. :) Hope u have a great week hope to see ur video next week
this vid was so heartwarming (no pun intended)
I love waching your videos
The cold weather was very bad, particularly in those southern states that don't have the infrastructure to deal with heavy snow and their houses are built to let heat out instead of conserve it. I've seen pictures of fish tanks frozen to a solid block, people keeping their pet reptiles warm by keeping them in cloth bags under their sweater and unfortunately some people lost animals 😔
my dogs got covered in road salt during the cold snap and needed a bath, so in addition to the whole bath song and dance there was blow drying one of them, wrapping him in blankets in his bed and the other(who has a very different coat type) curled up in her crate near the radiator. our poor boy figured out years ago that it takes hours to dry out his undercoat and now wants a quick blow dry to get out most of the damp after every bath. honestly i think there must have beet half a cup of sand and road salt stuck on two 20lb dogs, i hate to think what that stuff does to their paws.
Thank you for making this video, I found it very interesting. I have a question for you, what did you do with the dogs?
Wait, have you had a video bout Gwendolyn, yet? We need one! Vultures are cool.
she has enough energy for all the people
I love vultures! Hi, Gwen!
could you make a video on the turkey vulture?
How do you handle the dip in humidity that comes with extreme cold? Here in Minnesota we had two weeks straight where the temperature didn't get above zero even during the day, and we were at the tail end of it when everyone else was getting crazy weather. The indoor humidity was less than 5% and I felt miserable because it severely exacerbated my allergies. I imagine humidity that low can be an issue for some of the animals, too
As long as Kimosabe is OK we're all good.
And huckleberry!!!
@@RamenNoodle1985 Nyehhhhh!!!
Awwwww
Cool!!!
im not sure if this is the issue with the ice in the raccoon enclosure but if you make the door open out instead of in, then the ice couldn’t block the door from opening.
🖤🖤🖤
Does Gwen have avian borna virus? Does she get along with the other birds? Also, can you do a meet and greet for her, I don’t know much about vultures and I want to learn more. Tell everybody I say hi ❤️.
Where is kizmit now
hop you can make the impairments :)
Can you tell me how to make birds eat food their not familiar with because their on a seed diet I know its bad but we've tried feeding them fruit and they wont and their suppose to eat fruits cause their love birds
Stay toasty, my friends.
THANK YOU FOR TAKING SUCH GOOD CARE OF ALL OF GODS CREATURES❤
3:08 Clover? I thought your newest rabbit’s name was Apollo!
We changed her name when we learned she was female and not male. Oops!
I thought rabbits were nocturnal, often seen them at night or early morning on lawns etc.Actually most wild ,use to be a fox on edge of city were I work.
Are Turkey Vultures not cold tolerant? That surprises me. I live in Canada and see them around all the time. But maybe they migrate or hide away somewhere for winter...
I lost power twice during the cold front
I have a fish and i want to know how to train it can you do a ask jessi
How do i know where to send you guys a pet package?
You can find the info on the video description
Re: Hara, no cold adaptations for a desert hawk? I am not doubting your expertise, but it is my understanding that it can often reach freezing temperatures on desert nights. Am I misunderstanding the specifics of her species' environment?
Thanks for asking! Freezing temperatures can happen in Harris' hawk native habitat, but -20°F is well beyond just freezing (32°F). They are fairly cold tolerant if given proper shelter and perches above 4', but they're not adapted to extreme cold and blizzard conditions.
@@animalwondersmontana That makes perfect sense, thank you for responding.
How is kemosabe
are there going to be 2 vidos a week
Hi animal wonders team. Send love to all animals from me. I was wondering if you are taking in a new macaw. Please answer.
What are the ropes? around Harris's legs. I was trying to figure it out but I couldn't understand what they did.
I forget the official name but the ropes help with the bigger birds (hawks, falcons, eagles, owls) so if they are on Jessie’s hand and get spooked, the bird doesn’t get injured.
I think they might be called Leads? We have a raptor center near where I live and the animal trainers use them when doing group presentations for safety.
@@justjules327 They are called jesses :)
@@justjules327 thank you! Normally I'm good at googling things, but it was late and my brain wasn't working.
