  • Mimi the Black Tufted Marmoset is a tiny monkey and has lots of specific needs. Join Jessi as she shows you Mimi's morning including her breakfast prep, enrichment, and a training session.
    Mimi is not a pet, she is the unfortunate result of someone trying to make her a pet and when it didn't work out she was discarded and ended up at a rescue facility unable to be reintroduced to other monkeys. If you're interested in having a monkey as a pet please watch the videos below for more information on what it's like to care for them. Mimi should not be living alone and we're sad that she can't have companionship. We try to make up for that by offering her lots of enrichment, but it just doesn't compare.

    Wow she is so so beautiful... you’re doing such a wonderful job with her.. I am one who truly with all my heart believes that monkeys should never be kept in captivity as pets. I am so so happy you (as a rescue) have her. But I see them for sale at expos and things as tiny babies and it breaks my heart. People have no idea how much they need to be happy and even then they are never as free and happy as In the wild. Thank you for this wonderful video. 💗

    • @Mardavj
      @Mardavj 6 років тому +19

      It wouldnt survive on its own in the wild. This is the next best option. Jessie only accepts animals that wont survive in the wild on their own due to something or the other

    • @melissasmith6762
      @melissasmith6762 6 років тому +2

      Of course it wouldn't survive, it is a pet. There is no option to obtain and keep animals that can be released. The question remains, ho w is this any different?

    • @Mardavj
      @Mardavj 6 років тому +22

      I dont think you understand the situation at all. Pets in this case would be monkeys that are stolen from the wild and/or bred in captivity and then sold as pets which people buy for their pleasure. Jessie rescues such animals who in most cases due to the complexity and the challenges of keeping a monkey are returned by their owners (discarded like trash). She works to give them a better life for their benefit. There is an mountain of difference between a pet and rescue when you talk about a exotic species. Please inform yourself before making a comment which makes zero sense.

    • @melissasmith6762
      @melissasmith6762 6 років тому +6

      I keep exotic pets, and I've written about this topic extensively. I suggest you not insult my intelligence. My point is that she's keeping the monkey as a pet, "rescue" or not. Any average person can keep a monkey like she does or 'give it a better life'. Monkeys are not the only animals that get discarded or are treated poorly, that can apply to ANY animal. My dog is a 'rescue' and is also a pet. There is no mountain of difference, maybe an anthill.

      Donna Brooks the one and only! When I was in my teens, I lived in Ballard Wa for a little while, and walked to the zoo. In those days there were many entrances and me and my boyfriend went there when it was closed. The orangutans were kept in a small barred indoor/outdoor run that was separated from the walking path by a short steel fence. The large male was reaching for a bamboo branch outside of the cage that seemed just out of his reach-so I stepped over the fence and bent the branch to him so he could grab it, but instead of grabbing the Branch, he grabbed my hand! It was an unforgettable experience to have that enormous gentle hand holding my own. I was a bit frightened, and he didn’t hold on but for a moment and I quickly got out of his much greater reach. Great zoo.

    I love this video. You can really see the care you put into your animals here. And the fact that they ARE your life. Besides your family, of course. But then again, Augusto and the boys are animals as well, anyways. ;)

    Thanks for the great video on Mimi..she is so cute. I would be afraid of her ..afraid of her jumping on my head and ripping my hair or biting me.. Your brave Jessi. Happy New Year. Love your videos and how you explain about taking care of all the animals you have.

    Question: Did Mimi's enclosure used to belong to a different animal or did you make it just for her?

    Great video as always. I really liked how you show how much goes into training and daily care of a monkey. Hopefully that will teach some people that monkeys don't make great pets.

    This is the first time I have ever seen a marmoset. She is the most adorable and strange creature. Are you sure she is not an alien that crash landed here by mistake?

    Love watching you interact with all the animals! You said in the beginning of the video that if you didn't give Mimi her food fast enough she'd start screaming, so I wondered if you have a timetable or schedule for when each animal gets food/interaction?

    I'm seeing a lot of interesting similarities between Mimi and one of my cats. I know monkeys are definitely not meant to be pets in any way, but just seeing her reactions (her curiosity, the way she moves her head, even the way she jumps) reminds me a lot of my little Beo :)

    Awesome video, always love seeing how each person cares for their exotic animals. You’ve made awesome progress with Mimi, hope you’re able to harness train her as planned. Out of curiosity, would she be at risk of catching illnesses by being out in public?
    Also, do you have any links to where you purchase your puzzle feeders? I have a coatimundi who’d love something more complicated than I can make for him by hand.

    Hello. So I was wondering, so I just bought a 6 month old Alexandrine Parrot and the guy I bought him from was very clear that the parrot was friendly and was already hand raised and that it would be easier for me to handle him. But now, whenever I put my hand in the cage he charges so I take my hand out and I try giving him some sunflower seeds just to confront him and then try again. But it never works. So what do I do for him to actually like me
