Fire starting is no joke. When I was in junior high, I went on a 4 day 3 night canoeing trip. It was a coed camping trip, where the people in charge had just graduated high school or college students. So there was always something going on. Well one night people did not cover our fire wood. both great hauls but ima have to go with cam on this one, the lifestraw bottle is top tier and the $12 machete really sealed the deal, cam’s got a good eye
These items gave me a very obvious idea for an FTX video: Cam & Izzy are blindfolded, taken to the middle of nowhere, and have to survive and find their way back.
Milsurp clothing is great. Cheap, good quality winter jackets, those $5 US Army beanies are great, good boots, etc. Looking forward to the ghillie suit build.
My grandpa is a military surplus enthusiast lol. Seriously though my family uses surplus stores because if you need to do work outside then the stuff you can get there is reasonably priced and often pretty durable. When ever we need gloves, reflective gear, or just some tarp a surplus store typically has it in abundance. Edit: Cam even got a damn machete lmao
Good one Cam and Izzy, the fish net and plasma lighter were interesting choices I probably would have overlooked and making a ghillie suit as a civilian is pretty cool. I'd say my favorite purchases that I would want to make when I go to a military surplus store is the lensatic compass and another Lifestraw. The compass because I remember how reassuring it was to have one during land nav and it's still valuable to have as a civilian and the Lifestraw because if you're out of water then being able to drink even brackish water is literally a lifesaver. Good job again guys. 🙂
I would watch every second of a ghillie (hope i spelled it right) suit building tutorial, no matter how long it is. I always wanted to make my own for airsoft games at my buddy's farm
I've been getting a lot of Eagle Industries pouches from Venture Surplus and other miscellaneous items. I like to be organized and having a pouch for each specific item is key to that.
1 reason why I use surplus stores while I was in the army it was a easy great way to get patches, name tape, badges, awards & ribbons, dog tags and uniforms. It’s the best place for buying a piece of gear you lost. It’s the only place to sell issued gear. Now that I’m out my main reason is to support the local community, veterans, small businesses, local economy and to keep these niche stores alive and killed by the internet. They have great prices and are willing to work with you on pricing
I think it’s funny cause literally every item you bought and a bunch more I just keep in my wood/hunting truck just because it’s all practical. The thing I love the most is that I’ve never even been in the military but apparently I have a lot of the same thoughts. I would love for you guys to come back packing with me just to compared and see what you guys carry in your bags for a five day trip and what me a civilian carry’s and just see how much the military taught you or didn’t.
My idea for a series, capture cam/finding izzy. Each video is cam or izzy hiding in a different environment (urban, desert, jungle, etc,) while the other tries to find them. Both of them get to pick the equipment they go out with but have some budget cap ($100 maybe). It’d be hide n seek but it’s a manhunt
Surplus stores are my favorite because of airsoft and it reminds me of my family members that served, me and uncle would walk the entire store just talking about almost everything in there and hearing about his time on deployment
I've been watching this channel for almost 7 months. I've heard cam and izzy say multiple occasions about milsim. I think it would be super awesome to get some airsoft videos of them. Maybe a force on force game play or them going to a milsim. There is a huge amount potential with that. That would also open up an opportunity to attract a different group of viewers. I never served and I've always been attracted to the military and airsoft enhanced that curiosity for me.
For the belt, I can think of five uses at least. The obvious one is of course, use it to hold your pants. The belt can hold bags and pouches (near your body). It can hold a bunch of things together like firewood or metal pipes for transport. Someone here then also mentioned to use it as a tourniquet, although that may need to have a bit of modification to actually be used like that effectively. You can use it as a sling. Again, with modification, you can use it as temporary handcuffs. You can use it for extended reach as a lifeline for those who can't swim. You can use it for pranks. I hear that it can be used to sharpen knives, but never tried it. Finally, you can use it as a improvised Whip/flail/club/strangle tool in a fight. Let's joke around and say that someone had to fight Izzy and Cam. A normal person would think a knife is the higher priority to take out while the belt user seems like a silly choice.
@@IsraelWright Eh, you shouldn't be too impressed. Other than the knives part, I mostly applied what could be similarly done (if more difficult) with a towel instead of a belt. Why I mentioned a towel? I'll give you two hints: 'Know where your towel is' and 'the answer is 42'.
My favorite things to pick up at milsurp shops. Wool cold weather gear. The ecws3 wool base layers are amazing for around 30-45 you can get wool long underwear and and compression shirt. Ours has 100% wool caps for 8-15 each and 100% wool finger gloves for 5 and the seals wool gloves are perfect for wearing under a pair of mechanic gloves during winter because they get ripped up easy but are super warm. Additionally we use the shooter gloves/mutant mitts with wool inserts for when our kids go sledding. If they are small then they can use the shooter finger as a thumb finger and it keeps them really warm and pretty dry .
Once you pulled the socks you won. People don’t realize how that small comfort can make one of the biggest differences in the field, fresh socks are like gold

I'm assuming that's age-old Green Beret wisdom that Izzy's been saving for the right moment to share with us. As for best haul, that's a tough one! The water bottle seems super useful, but then most of the stuff Izzy bought is the sort of stuff I'd buy thinking 'I'll actually USE this.' Plus I really want one of those plasma lighters now. Then again, Cam was thinking ahead with the netting for the ghillie suit vids. Since I already made a ghillie suit years ago, I'm going to give it to Izzy as it's closer to what I'd buy myself, but Cam obviously gets style points for 'MACHETEEEEE!'
When you were talking about surviving without water I remembered the rule of three - three min. without air, three days without water, three weeks without food

I go to surplus stores for many reason. Camping equipment, in PA if they have an FFL, I bout my Springfield 1906 there, bought some Chinese SKS chestrigs to salvage and turn into AK mag holders. Foreign uniform like my M81 alpinflage that I lined with denim to make my motorcycle jacket.
"The Three Rule"- 3 minutes without oxygen to the brain, 3 hours without some sort of shelter (in adverse conditions), 3 days without water, and 3 weeks without food.
Great video! one thing i will say about Lifestraw. There have been independent lab tests done, as well as at least one youtuber that i know of (project farm) that show that lifestraw is barely better then unfiltered water when it comes to ppm for solids. So in a survival situation i would highly recommend you to get some addtional iodine/chlroine tablets to double treat the water on the go if you can. I mean in a pinch a lifestraw is better then nothing since some filtration is better then drinking it raw, but i would not put much stock in not getting massive diarrehea just from a life straw filtration if you got to drink out of a suspect stagnat water pool and are unable to boil it safe.
In Sweden I have a rule of thumb, the more a military surplus store smell of “mobilisation storage” the better the store and prices. The problem is how to explain the smell of a mob storage for some on “not in the know”. I’ve asked around, even my military friends and we can’t really explain it. Mob storage smell of mob storage, the same way a rose smell of a rose and peanut butter smell peanut butter. But what that smell Intails and or how to explain it, is yet to be determined hahaha
@@taylorbennion3706 precisely! That what we concluded to, but as you put it “that special something” what is that hahah, still a interesting smell that is not unpleasant (at-least to me)
This was not a competition, Cameron is the winner. If you see someone with a camouflage net and a machete, you say hey, don't joke with this guy. If I see someone with a bag, a belt, some socks and a lighter, I would give them a hot plate of food.
I think that Israel's haul is better for someone that's a beginner and needs the basics that are pretty easy to use whereas Cameron's haul is a bit more advanced for someone who knows what they're doing, especially in terms of the Ghillie suit and multiple applications for Tarp.
Sorry Izzy but you bought stuff for comfort while Cam bought survival stuff. In the beginning you said you had very little money while Cam said he had a lot. And that machete thats the stuff of legend. Giggly legend. That's where you get the most fun. For me your best buy was the medical scissors. Hope you do test drive your buys in a future episode. I love your channel.
1:21 The Supply Sgt. that's in Burbank California, I can't believe you guys didn't show the military vehicles that are outside? I have always heard that military bases have a surplus store in the area. I was expecting one of those to be the place they visited.
I would like to see @The Fieldcraft Survival try this as well. But nicely done guys, but I think you missed a big point on the life straw bottle. Drink though the Life Staw at the watter source and fill up yourself, and then fill the bottle for later use.
I'd give it to Cameron for the better haul. The only thing I'd change is I'd trade out the cheap machete for the plasma lighter, but the rest of it is a solid pick.
Get J. Neilson to test that machete. 😁 And I think both of you had some good items there though I'm leaning towards Izzy as the winner. I'm all for them belts and socks.
As an airsofter surplus stores often carry good gear at the same of better prices than Airsoft retailers and ninety percent of the time the equivalent gear cost wise is the real thing and infinitely superior quality
You guys always have the best survival equipment my uncle told me to not trust the new stuff but you two have my attention keep teaching me pleaseeeee I need ut
Kinda funny how none of that stuff was actually military surplus :P That's a common problem in most "military surplus" stores I come across today. VERY little is actual military surplus. Most stuff is just cheap chinese products that either try to trick people into thinking it's military gear, or try to entice the outdoorsy types with the price for something vaguely survival-oriented. I've found that I have had to resort to foreign military surplus sites for actual military gear (like Varusteleka, but even they are starting to stock less real military gear!). Not sure why this is happening. Maybe actual military gear doesn't sell as well as it used to, and stores make more money on the chinese copies?
Because sometimes you find some nicer stuff, Crye, Patagonia, Beyond, even just some issued level 7s or a cool woobie, and lastly is usually for knives, flashlights, or guns (my local milsurp store sells guns)
i would say both because you can use all of that im not wrong and also you can use the belt to keep someone from bleeding from the leg or arm if you dont have a something in your kit that does that but over all both are pretty good

Would be nice to see you guys do a 100 dollar survival challenge. Take a few GoPros along and document it.
I go to surplus stores for cargo pants.
I hate jeans. Hate shorts.
Love cargo pants.
This was not a competition, Cameron is the winner. If you see someone with a camouflage net and a machete, you say hey, don't joke with this guy.
If I see someone with a bag, a belt, some socks and a lighter, I would give them a hot plate of food.
I think that Israel's haul is better for someone that's a beginner and needs the basics that are pretty easy to use whereas Cameron's haul is a bit more advanced for someone who knows what they're doing, especially in terms of the Ghillie suit and multiple applications for Tarp.
can we get a whole actual compilation of the bloopers! we love it
Sorry Izzy but you bought stuff for comfort while Cam bought survival stuff. In the beginning you said you had very little money while Cam said he had a lot. And that machete thats the stuff of legend. Giggly legend. That's where you get the most fun. For me your best buy was the medical scissors. Hope you do test drive your buys in a future episode. I love your channel.
I go for the older military stuff and the vintage stuff it is just amazing to me kinda like a toys R us but military
At 8:45 o legit thought,” wait why are they showing us a random fores- ohhhhhhh!”
As an airsofter surplus stores often carry good gear at the same of better prices than Airsoft retailers and ninety percent of the time the equivalent gear cost wise is the real thing and infinitely superior quality
Clothes for airsoft , give me the og green camp all day
Cameron’s water purifying bottle gets my vote
Cameron’s inner Mall Ninja jumped out today
Well shit you guys should get Life Straw to sponsor you because I for sure as hell am buying that bottle now! Great Speech!
You guys always have the best survival equipment my uncle told me to not trust the new stuff but you two have my attention keep teaching me pleaseeeee I need ut
You guys should do a video where you make an obstacle course for each other that consist of military training exercises
I was always taught it was the rule of threes, three weeks no food, 3 days no water, 3 minutes without oxygen.
He save it for the end and was showed at the beggining, that makes it better as you realize is all real and not an scripted tv show 😅
Kinda funny how none of that stuff was actually military surplus :P
That's a common problem in most "military surplus" stores I come across today.
Israel saying he gets lost in the sauce sometimes had me fucking dyeing
One video should be you guys going airsofting and showing some of your skills in the field. Y'all are doing great keep it up guys
Because sometimes you find some nicer stuff, Crye, Patagonia, Beyond, even just some issued level 7s or a cool woobie, and lastly is usually for knives, flashlights, or guns (my local milsurp store sells guns)
I feel like you should you do this same idea for another video but choose a budget an a survival situation for each shopping session
I think I and other people would like to see a ghillie suit making competition
i would say both because you can use all of that im not wrong and also you can use the belt to keep someone from bleeding from the leg or arm if you dont have a something in your kit that does that but over all both are pretty good
Yes please make a video about you both making a ghilly-suit!
This is a supreme episode. this is the show your kids episode.
