    You look beautiful Courtney, and your glowing. I like the idea about cutting your hair shorter. It makes sense.
    I remember when I was pregnant with my son the prenatal vitamins made my hair grow very long as well (3A, 3B curls), and it seemed thinker and more full. After a while with the hair loss, I noticed my curl pattern changed and my hair got thinner and had a wave, but no curl. After a year my curl pattern came back and my hair got slightly thicker. It takes a while.

    I had always heard that pregnancy can change your hair but I was NOT prepared. Before, my hair was sooo straight. Wouldnt hold a curl ever. After kids…well, you can see my profile pic on this comment. I’m totally curly now. And it was such a strange change. About 2 weeks after birth of my son, my hair got incredibly oily for a full week straight. Then the oil stopped suddenly and boom 💥 curly hair since then. And then it got even curlier after I had my daughter.

    I just watched this. I have five children, and with each pregnancy my hair lost more and more of my natural curl. I used to have ringlets to where only the bottom half of my hair was natural curl and the top was loose waves that needed to be helped along with a curling wand.
    Fast forward to 2019 when I was diagnosed with a rare disease called Idiopathic subglottic tracheal stenosis (ISGS). My airway grows scar tissue below my vocal cords, upper trachea, closing up my ability to breathe. My first procedure to open up the airway caused a hyperactive response and began to swell shut. I had to be intubated with a pediatric breathing tube & sedated until a riskier surgery with multiple specialists could be done. After a month long hospital stay, a tracheotomy placed, 11 months and over 25 procedures with general anesthesia to breathe normally again finally happened a few days before the pandemic shutdown. My hair was processing all that trauma with increased thinning and hair loss. After that phase, my hair started growing & filling in. Not only was it coming back, it was coming back with my pre-children, 1990s curly ringlets! It’s one of the nice surprises during it all!

    Quite interesting how hormones change our hair so much. I've had a hormone imbalance for a while now, and I've been taking herbal supplements and things to balance them, and I've noticed that my hair is getting more straight and wavy like rather than my normal 3a curls.
    I've heard that when you are pregnant the growing phase of our hair lasts a lot longer so your hair grows quicker.
    I wish I only lost a few hairs a day, I lose an absolutely ridiculous amount of hair everyday! Way more than the average person. But somehow my hair is still very thick🤔🤦🏻‍♀️
    I think you should go for a shorter haircut when your baby is born. Very cute hairstyle that not everyone can pull off, but you are able to😄

    My hair grew faster during pregnancy, too, and I lost almost no hairs at all. When the postpartum hair shedding didn't come after three months, I thought I'd gotten lucky, but no, ist only took longer to start me (possibly due to nursing?).
    I like your idea of cutting your hair shorter, it'll also take less time, and with a baby, what you don't have is time ;). Also, If baby girl turns out to be a hair puller (mine is), shorter hair might be a little harder to get a hold of...

    • @777kat777
      @777kat777 2 роки тому

      @@SwavyCurlyCourtney I think the hair shedding ist mostly due to the changes in estrogen levels, which can be slower when you're nursing.
      I do also have an autoimmune thyroid condition that can affect the hair (and my thyroid levels have been very wonky since I gave birth), so there might be several factors in play here.
      As for the hair pulling, I actually grew my hair out because of it, because mine was so short I couldn't pull it up and out of reach of these tiny hands. It's shoulder length now, that hast turned out to be a pretty practical length.

    It will be interesting to hear how you take care of your hair during the wonderful postpartum recovery period. I had a baby 4 weeks ago and my poor hair definitely got neglected once baby came home. It feels like some days new moms are lucky to even get a shower and putting your hair up in a pineapple and covering it for the night is too much to ask of yourself when the hormones are raging and baby won’t sleep.

    Oooo next time I get pregnant I wanna do that haircut plan. Maybe go 7 weeks before due date (first baby came 6 weeks early due to severe Pre-Eclamsia and HELLPS so worth factoring in) and go like proper bob length or shorter. Get real crazy with it! I usually like my hair just past my shoulders. Only cut it short to like chin length once in middle school.

    I made the mistake of leaving my hair long before my son was born. It didn't take me long to figure out it needed to go! Thanks for sharing this, Courtney! I'm currently 14 weeks pregnant and already noticing both a looser curl pattern and that my hair is inclined to become over-moisturized. I took advantage of Trēluxe's labor day sale, in hopes of the line helping with that balance, and I did a gelatin treatment a week ago, but things are already feeling mushy after two washes. What are your go-to protein treatments right now? I know you mentioned the Curl Junkie Repair Me-- do you think that still had too much moisture?

    It's normal for your hair to grow faster and to not shed much during pregnancy. It's because your body is providing for both you and baby. I have heard that after pregnancy the hair shedding starts and the growth reduces, so there's a period when you feel like your hair is falling, but it's just catching up on the shedding process. What was your hair like the first months after you had your little one?

  • @abigailgopher3043

    I’ve found lately that when my hair hair protein overload I can clarify, use a regular conditioner (skip the deep condition, of not depending) and then use protein heavy stylers and that balances my hair the best. I think this might be because most of the masques I use with protein are balanced or still moisturizing.

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney

    Ok, I got a question. I get the change with hair growth or loss, the oiliness...all that.
    But how would hormones affect the curl pattern or the hair's reaction to protein and such short term? I mean, the hair has already grown out of the head, it shouldn't be affected by anything going on inside of your body anymore at that stage.
    Is there an explanation for why/how that would happen?
    I think your plan to do a 'chop' towards the end of the pregnancy is very sensible, btw. I had bra strap length hair forever, then a pixie and now an about chin length curly bob and don't plan, to grow it much longer. Certainly not past shoulder length. Because, yes, long hair is gorgeous...but the time and effort it requires...uff.
    No thank you. Short curly styles are hella cute, too and it only to takes me 30 minutes to wash, plop and diffuse my hair.

    • @VengefulAngeI
      @VengefulAngeI 2 роки тому

      A change in oils alone can cause different reactions. More oils can affect your cuticle and definition. It can also weigh hair down. If u figure that the last couple of inches has come out both straighter & oilier, it could impact what the rest of the strand will do.

    • @raraavis7782
      @raraavis7782 2 роки тому +1

      @@VengefulAngeI
      Hm...at 4 months or so... that's about 2 inches, maybe 3 even. Yeah, I guess that could have an effect.
      Maybe it's not intuitive to me, because my hair definitely curls from the ends. When my hair was too long, to hold a curl overall, the last couple inches would still wave/curl just the same.
      But the oiliness...I mean, I could see that affect second or third day hair, certainly. But why wouldn't the freshly washed hair style the same as before?

    • @glocode
      @glocode 2 роки тому

      You're right, it's not logical at all. It's not like the hair strands are alive and somehow get affected by hormones down to their tips.

      @raraavis7782 2 роки тому +1

      @@glocode
      It just really makes me curious. Because I don't doubt, that those experiences are genuine (obviously). Lots of pregnant women seem to experience this, so there must be an explanation. Curls are such a mystery and I've only recently (at age 41) 'discovered', that I have quite a bit of natural curl myself. Which is quite funny, because I wanted curly hair all my life. So much so, I even contemplated a perm, but got discouraged by every hairdresser, I asked about it. I did ever 'heatless curl' style under the sun, but would always end up a bushy, tangled mess, after a couple hours of wearing my long hair open.
      If only I had known, that all that was required, was the right styling 😆

    • @JBUHJBUH
      @JBUHJBUH 2 роки тому

      @@glocode not sure if you're being facetious but hair itself is not actually alive. It's keratin. But if we're talking about where the hair originates then sure, it's possible the hormones affect the hair follicles & therefore the curl pattern (which is what I believe @Rara Avis was asking originally?)

    Definitely enjoy a shorter cut ... see what your hair does ... you may love it. If not ... it will grow.

      Just think if her little girl ends up having curly hair, she will know how to take care of it at a young age, unlike some of us who start learning now and struggle through the transition phase!

    I was promised lucious locks during pregnancy, especially when expecting a boy, but instead it's gone greasy, flat and limp. I'm having to wash every day. :(
