thanks too much. it worked for me today at the interview. l was able to tell the employer how much am worth and end up putting the employer in a defensive position. That lead to a good offer and what l should expect in the near future
one bone to pick: My prospective employer doesn't care what others think their salary range should be---they just know what THEY THINK it should be. The only way I can know that number is to ask them if they have a written job description for my position. If no, they are not for real. If yes, it will have a salary range---even if they don't choose to share it with folks outside the company. If they've settled on a salary range and won't share it with me, I'll offer some guesses and if they still refuse I'll thank them and leave. If they are committed to playing games, it's a clear window into what it's like to work there.
Thanks, great video. But if we tell what salary we want based on my worth and they move on to the next candidate ??? Always remember they have a back to back candidate's on their list. And it's my dream job n I don't want to walk away. So what's my answer to what's your salary requirement question???
Darnell Clarke I got one more small question , well two to be honest! So in interview they ask questions like "what is your greatest weakness ? " And "what is your greatest strength?" How do I answer those questions ? I mean telling something stupid could , really give a clear indication that I am a serial procarstinater (if even that's a word) , or I don't follow deadlines given properly. So could you help me here a tad bit . Thanks Mr. Darnell in advance 😄
Akash, First of all, you should never apply for a position that is in the area of your greatest weakness. So when they ask the question “What is your greatest weakness”, you tell them the truth, because it would have nothing to do with the position at hand. For example, here is how I answer the weakness question. I am impatient (speed is everything to me). I determine my priorities quickly and expect others to have similar attitudes. I process issues quickly and want to move on, even when other people aren’t ready to. This causes frustration in people and puts undue pressure on them to perform. Therefore I slow down to give people enough time to figure things out. For the what's your greatest strength question, here is what I say. I am Results and Goals originated, Action-Driven, have the ability to get the job done and I need little to no supervision. I’m frank, candid, straightforward and a problem solver. And I'm reliable and dependable for results!. I’m trying to build a Reputation for execution. This is how I address the strength and weakness questions... I hope this helps.
Walk away (respectfully) not bad thing either, I have had calls within hours..or days after with employer counter offering once more, or agreeing to asking salary.
Hi Darnell. I wrote to you almost a year ago about an interview that I had. I got the job and it's going on a year since I started. The same day I got hired they all so hard an African male part time. From our first encounter, I gather that he was very upset, and perhaps he thinks that I stole his job. He seems very angry toward me. Anyways, I notice that my boss has been teaching him a lot of things secretly. A couple weeks ago he went to Africa on vacation, and since he came back he has had all the big clients accounts she's doing all the in-depth onbording my boss has been teaching him secretly. And, whatever he wants to learn something my boss will teaches only him. But whenever I ask for my boss to teach me something he teaches everybody on the team. I feel the pinch. I also noticed since I started four females left the company. And it's a very tiny company. I feel my boss is teaching him so much things that he's going to surpass me . What should I do at this point.
I am also curious to know after a phone interview with a recruitment agency, how long does it take to hear about the next step in the hiring process? like to go for the face to face with hiring manager
Hey Emmanuel, thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it. It takes about a week or so if you haven't heard anything back by then contact them. If they don't engage you... move on!
Hey Chinwe, thank you for your comment, I really appreciate it more than you know. Cover letters are not necessary anymore in the marketplace unless an employer asks for it.
Excellent valuable information. However, my job is local municipal government where the salary is posted in the job announcement. There is no negotiation lol. Thanks for the videos 👍
So i am trying to move internally within a company. The market place say i am definitely not paid. Here is how it went: got hired to do one function, asked to back up someone else, did that. Then that back up role became my primary role which was a lot more than what i was hired to do. Then my initial role is taken away and i am just asked to do yet another role and still be part of another area. The downside is that the company gives you raise based on your CURRENT pay which is BS! I was under paid to begin with. Any advice?
The job will pay what you agree to, if you don’t then you don’t end up working there. But I agree it is frustrating when they are only willing to offer less than what you will accept and the wasted time having to go. Its an opportunity cost.

Darnell my question is lately I nail jobs pass the interviews but the salary is we're in not getting the value that I ask. I look online my experience pass W-2 forms but I be getting low ball as much 20% less. How can I ask the hiring manager how much are you willing to pay me. Some managers tell me what can they afford and settle but lately is way off or they don't want to tell me. How to appropriately ask how much can you pay me?
Hello Greg, two things might be happening. (1) you might be going after the wrong types of jobs. (2) you might not be doing enough salary market research. You never want to ask a hiring manager how much they are willing to pay, you must have that figure in mind already, and if they don't match it, then you must know your walk-away amount. Never go into an interview without that information. You must know your true value to the marketplace.
Well I nailed a job and the salary is higher then I expected. They published the wage online I wrote down on the application what I wanted pass the interview and drug test. And Monday I start the job. Now do you have any tips on making a good impression to my new bosses. I asked people about this particular company but no one knows it's a small business. I just want to make a good impression on my new coworkers. I'm a team player and hard worker so I'm going To give it my best shot.
Hello Greg, the first thing you need to do is create a 90 days action plan that's connected to your boss goals and objectives. You need to make sure you guys are on the same page. Then after 30 days, go back to your boss to ask how are you doing. Take their feedback and adjust your plan according. Do the same thing for 60 and 90 days. You make sure to let you boss always know what you have accomplished.
Darnell Clarke Hello Darnell Clarke, Well so far I've stayed on board and I'm past six months just barely it's been hard and very challenging but I adapt and persevere and business is growing were I work. I'm sort off a productive employee and my manager who was hesitant of me now says we got lucky with "Greg" I'm a Forklift Mechanic for four and a half years prior to that I have worked on Military vehicles, passengers cars, and some construction equipment vehicles. So now they want me (management) to train a employee. This person doesn't have any forklift experience but has worked on cars. I'm not the greatest mechanic of all time. But I'm not the worse anyways. I've told my supervisor that I don't want to train anybody and that if I do I want it to be written in my job description. Now I do understand them this is a business profit driving company. So I'm not asking for more money but at the same time I want to be recognized for my contribution to the team on paper. And when my review comes up im going to ask for some more $$$. And when they say why, I will remind them why. And when I move on somewhere else I will use this to my benefit. Is it that hard to make adjustments to my job description Darnell? The HR manager lady is very friendly so is my supervisor, my manager well that guy is a bit weird sometimes. I never been in a management or leadership role in my career. Much less trained somebody. But this could be my first is it a bad idea? What are you suggestion for my dilema
@@gregterrible Just train the new guy, dude. This will help you later. You can already talk to your manager on what it means if you do the training well if you can get more responsibilities. This will mean in the end that you will have a good position during the yearly review; better salary and bonus. Never say no, except if you are sure you will get issues or it's something you cant do.
Hello Darnell, first of all, your videos have been very helpful! Question that I have: I recently applied to a job with a union. Last Tuesday I did my second interview with them. I sent all the panelist a thank you note and according to them, the position has been closed for the public to apply. Since it has been a week, should I reach out to them or no? What do you recommend?? Thank you and hope to hear from you soon!
I think answering with a number is a loaded and a no-win answer. You say too low and you may have sold yourself short. Say a number too high and you will be considered asking too much and may have ruled yourself out of the opportunity.
I did my research, asked for a salary that was 5k more than what I wanted and 10k more than my last job and they just said "ok".... I think I could have gotten more... damn I suck at negotiations
Thanks alot Sir for your helps, but I want to ask, what if you are been interviewed by one of the companies that has fixed price on any position in there organization and u went ahead and get told them your salary requirements maybe it happens to be that what they pay for the position u apply for is beyond your expectation, so can they make it up for you??
Hey, My Friend, thank you for your "outstanding" question, I really appreciate it more than you know. If an employer has a fixed salary requirement and it's below your min salary, then you must walk away. Unless you are unemployed, then accept it! You should always know your min walk away salary figure before you go into any interview.
I'm having trouble finding my salary average on the salary search sites. The position is a lead supervisor for a juvenile facility, and I have over 18 years experience in juvenile justice with 5 years of management. Any help would be appreciated, sir!
I disagree you have to know the companies budget for the position first. For example if the role you’re applying for only pays up to $70,000 but you go in there asking for $100,000 you’re done they’re going to disqualify you.
If they low ball you and insist you can tell them you will consider their offer and are interviewing other candidates and they can call you if they don't hear from you in the next week.
Hello Darnell, thanks for the tips, recently i had a phone interview with online recruitment agency, they asked me my salary expectation, i refused to tell but he asked me what was my last salary drawn i told him so he added 500 extra to what i was making before, which i was willing to accept. now am still waiting on the feedback to meet with the hiring manager, its been 1 week now, what do you think? i emailed to know the update but he told me they have no update from the employer yet but i should keep my phone lines active. what's your advice? i really want the job cause its what i really have passion for
Hello Emmanuel, first, thank you for your comments. Whenever anyone asks you for your salary expectation, "GIVE IT TO THEM"! But, first, do your research to find out what's the salary for that position. You can find this out by going to: www.glassdoor.com/. Second, did you reach to the online recruitment agency or did they contact you first? If you contacted them, then, keep contacting them. If they contacted you first, then, blow them off! Don't waste any more of your time messing around with them.
Thank you, they contacted me first for the phone interview, and after 3days i followed up with an email for an update which they replied me back that the employer has not gotten back to them yet regarding the next stage, however that i should keep my mobile phone active
I've noticed when being asked for my salary requirements a lot of companies can't even match what my previous employer was paying me. It's really discouraging because I really want to work, but I'm not into to taking pay cuts.
Hello, thanks for your comments. If companies can't match your salary requirements, ,then your job search is broke. You are applying for positions you should not pursuing. Do your online research to determine what is that position is paying and if it doesn't match, then don't submit.
Rather than repeating yourself I say just tell them the same number for your last job as you told them for your salary requirement. I don't think they should be asking that. I would hope that is rare.
This is SO refreshing from the usual bullshit of "don't give them a number" approach that everyone else is preaching. Give them your expectation. tell them that it's not a "final" and could change if the process goes further and the more you find out about the role. It's not a weakness to tell them what you are aiming to make.
Hello, thank you for your comment, I really appreciate it! That's a behavioral interview question. Here is my UA-cam video to address this question (ua-cam.com/video/GX666jGeYzc/v-deo.html). It's a 4-part series, so make sure you watch all of them.

Thank you and hope to hear from you soon!
he died hun so u will not get an answer ..is legacy lives on
Could please send a word document of question & answer with an example for IJP?
HA! "Don't mess around ask for what you want!"
I think answering with a number is a loaded and a no-win answer. You say too low and you may have sold yourself short. Say a number too high and you will be considered asking too much and may have ruled yourself out of the opportunity.
This is very very helpful..
However, the links are not opening when I'm clicking them
Who else is still here? DARNELL WAS THE BEST! hope you all find what you’re genuinely are looking for
I did my research, asked for a salary that was 5k more than what I wanted and 10k more than my last job and they just said "ok"....
Tnk u sir
@@ChidubemChidubem-fe4ln You are welcome!
Great video
Hello Benson, thank for your feedback, I really appreciate it more than you know.
What does the marketplace says???? Huh. What does the marketplace SAY... That's the correct way to say that, Sir.
RIP 🙏. This helped me greatly.
I'm having trouble finding my salary average on the salary search sites. The position is a lead supervisor for a juvenile facility, and I have over 18 years experience in juvenile justice with 5 years of management. Any help would be appreciated, sir!
I disagree you have to know the companies budget for the position first. For example if the role you’re applying for only pays up to $70,000 but you go in there asking for $100,000 you’re done they’re going to disqualify you.
rest well ...ur legacy lives on
If they low ball you and insist you can tell them you will consider their offer and are interviewing other candidates and they can call you if they don't hear from you in the next week.
Mr. Applewine, yes that an approach to take as well. Thank you for your feedback.
Yap, Situation here, I want to leave a company and the asked me , what did they do to let me stay?
Hello Darnell, thanks for the tips, recently i had a phone interview with online recruitment agency, they asked me my salary expectation, i refused to tell but he asked me what was my last salary drawn i told him so he added 500 extra to what i was making before, which i was willing to accept. now am still waiting on the feedback to meet with the hiring manager, its been 1 week now, what do you think? i emailed to know the update but he told me they have no update from the employer yet but i should keep my phone lines active. what's your advice?
i really want the job cause its what i really have passion for
What do you think? any chance of getting the feed back from the hiring Manager?
Yes, keep your phone on!
okay thank you, will hope for the best
I've been at my current employment for 4 yrs and 6 months. Is it advisable to promote myself as having 5 yrs of experience in the industry?
By the way. Great content! Inspiring, motivational and educational!
lol o.g i wish i was as savage as you great advice !!!!
So grateful; May GOD almighty rest your soul! Thank you LORD Jesus Christ for this piece.
Great stuff! Thank you Darnell!
Rather than repeating yourself I say just tell them the same number for your last job as you told them for your salary requirement. I don't think they should be asking that. I would hope that is rare.
Mr. Applewine, sorry to say, that happens more than you know!
Also, is it ok to ask them what's your range
How do you tell them in your interviewer. You are being offered more at another position?
thanks for all the tips.
thankGOD4all .... Lad Whiteorse
Hello, thanks for your comment, I really appreciate it more than you know.
My favorite video!
Thank you for your comment!!!
soooo....i had an interview today and i made the mistake of doing the range answer...what should i do?
Hey, don't worry about it, what's done is done. Now you know for next time.
This is SO refreshing from the usual bullshit of "don't give them a number" approach that everyone else is preaching. Give them your expectation. tell them that it's not a "final" and could change if the process goes further and the more you find out about the role. It's not a weakness to tell them what you are aiming to make.
Your gr8
Sir.how to answer the question 'if you are not happy with your coworker how to handle such situations?"
Hello, thank you for your comment, I really appreciate it! That's a behavioral interview question. Here is my UA-cam video to address this question (ua-cam.com/video/GX666jGeYzc/v-deo.html). It's a 4-part series, so make sure you watch all of them.
Hello, Darnell. I appreciate your efforts. Your videos are top notch. There was a typo in the link leading to the behavioral interview question, and I think that it should be: ua-cam.com/video/GX666jGeYzc/v-deo.html
Hi everyone!!
I did some interview but they didn't asked how much do you expect the salary but they asked how much did you take your last job or how much you are getting?
then what should be the answer?
Please advise me.
You say what you want for the salary. What you were making has nothing to do with your current offer.
Darnell Clarke thanks 😊
what if they didn't ask about the salary requirement ??
Does this work with hourly/wage based employment?
Hey Sara, thank you for your question, I really appreciate it more than you know. And YES, it works with hourly/wage-based employment. You have not, cause you asked not!
Great. Thanks
Thanks again!!!
I cannot access www.darnellc.com/pl/44585. Please, can you share the correct link? Thank you,
I just say "whatever you're willing to pay me"
What If they ask you for you salary slips ??
I made the range mistake
Why did you change so many jobs?
Hey Alfredo, thanks for your question, I really appreciate it more than you know. The reason I had so many jobs, was because I didn't my purpose so any job would do. I never stopped looking until I found it. That's when I began a career coach, to show everyone how to do it and what to do.
interesting,if you want 70 then ask 75

Hello, thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it more than you know.
