Awwww so happy to hear that Leslie! I know how it is when starting... I’ve been there so I find it super important to recommend the most affordable gear at least to start with. :) I hope you enjoy my channel! 😍🙏🏼❤️
@@LauraBC I agree with Leslie. Makes me feel so much better that I'm not a professional photographer but it doesn't have to be so daunting. I have an estate jewelry business do you have any specific recommendations for getting soft, but tight and detailed photos? If it makes sense to have this convo in another stream let me know. Thanks! good stuff
For everyone reading this, I'm in the exact same situation as the presenter. I've been thinking a lot about opening a photo studio, but renting a space was too expensive, especially working two shifts. In the end, I decided to sell all the furniture in my living room and turn it into a photo studio. They say you have to pay a price to succeed, and I'm willing to give up the comfort of a living room to pursue my passion for photography. I've set up photo studios in the most unexpected places: the attic, the living room, even a small children's room. I've used every available space, including nature, the forest, the ruins of old castles, creating dreamy sets. I've discovered that with a little imagination and minimal equipment, you can achieve amazing results. The most important thing is to master the art of light and have a solid understanding of photo editing. With these tools, success is guaranteed
That is so funny because I immediately within the first minute and a half also decided to hit the subscribe button because I already felt like she’s going to be great to hang out with. Indeed, great personality.
Your energy is so amazing. This is the first video of yours I have seen, but it was suggested because I'm looking to add a small studio to my home. I have the confidence after watching this video to maximize the space I have and that I won't need thousands of dollars to get high quality work.
Thank you so much Damon! 😍 I really hope you enjoy my channel. Best of luck with the studio. As you see, we can manage not expending much. 💪🏼 Big hug from London! :)
I’m trying to start a little photography studio in my bedroom and I’m so happy to have found your channel and this video!! Thank you! Love how encouraging you are! ❤️ definitely subscribed!!
Awww thank you so much! I'm so happy to have helped you. It makes me very excited to help others with the same problems I encountered myself years ago. :) So glad that you feel encouraged! We, photographers and creatives, really need that from time to time to stay motivated. Any questions please just ask. :) Welcome to my channel and thanks for joining me here! :) Hugs from London!
Yessss!! Thank you Heiko! So nice to know that you also shoot in a small space. Here in London I had no choice. Renting an external studio is not sustainable when already paying so much for the flat! 😅 Big hug! I hope you like my channel. ❤️
Hey Laura, I cannot express how much I admire you. You really highlight that it is all about attitude and hard work. So much of your advice applies to me :)
Some good unbiased advice here and so honestly presented. Should be noted the car size backdrops (think 2.18 metre) are around same price as the 2.72M - if you look at the Tetenal website. When I started there wasn't a car size option but luckily the 2.7 metere drop fitted in my Nissan hatchback and later Camry saloon from one corner of the boot (trunk) through to the passenger seat footwell or resting on the dash against the windscreen :/ I might later saw off a piece to give me a more practical length of backdrop to work with on a client's premises. So I had to use stands which I agree are the biggest pain for using up floor space but lightweight and one of the few pieces of equipment you will never need to replace. These paper rolls are easy to cut with a regular hand saw meaning you shouldn't be put off getting a 2.7 metre drop. You can then cut to the size that suits your needs. As I said price difference between 2.18 (or 2.08) and full size is negligible depending on where you look :)
Back in the early 90's I had to run some film to a local studio. I was shocked at the size of it, both big AND small. Big in the fact they had a white wall and it curved where it met the floor to be seamless. He had a gallon of paint beside it because they would constantly repaint to keep it perfectly white (remember, this is way before Photoshop). It was small in the fact that he showed me an area they did tight portraits, much like your examples. A large softbox, hair light on a black background. I couldn't believe how tight the area was! I had no idea that portraiture could be done like that and it helped my , years later, set up my first studio. Now Neewer and other companies, plus digital make portraiture SO much more affordable and accessible. This was a great video to let people know that they can do this. Keep it up, Laura!
I get you sooo well! Time ago everything was so inaccesible and gear way much more expensive. Now, knowing a bit what to get, we can build a decent studio even in tiny places for professional work. Thanks a lot for watching and bringing me back to the old photography era. 😍🎞 Big hug from London! :)
Laura, this is awesome! I'm currently working remotely from my parent's bedroom as a video editor for financial company, while also trying to grow myself as freelance video editor and videographer. I just ordered paperback drops, and some studio lights and you've given me a lot of ideas on how to make my small space work. Excited to see what else you do, subscribed!
Hi Sam! That's amazing! So nice to hear your story. I'm so glad to have contributed to the set up of your new creative space! 😍 Thanks a lot for joining my channel! I hope you enjoy my videos! Big hug from London! :) Keep creating! 🎥 ❤️
This video is so encouraging. It really motivates me to hear how you started and how small your place is. You have such beautiful work. I would've never believed it was done there! love it! I will definitely get that flash as well. I thought they were way more expensive. Thanks for this!
Hi Sara! Yes! The flash is definitely well worth it and super affordable. It’s the one I use now for professional work and it works great! :) Thanks a lot for your watching. I’m so glad you found it encouraging. 💪🏼 Big hug from London! :)
You just motivated me to use my shipping container for a studio photography.. seriously .. I am using it for screen printing and now I will add a back drop (black fabric) and some lights and BINGO! .. thank you so much. You are awesome!
I love that background. I live in a small place too, and it's difficult to make that depth that a lot of UA-camrs have in a smaller space but I made it work. I might paint my walls matte black after seeing this video. Great job, I've subbed
Thank you so much Samuel! ❤️ So happy to know that you liked the video. Thanks for subscribing! I hope you enjoy my channel. I love black backgrounds. 😄 It’s true that is harder to get depth in a small place. We manage anyhow with what we have right? :) Good idea about those black walls. 💪🏼
I just discovered you and you are a force!! Love that! I’m not a photographer, but I’m a beginner makeup artist and as you know it is important to capture the work and make it visible on social media. I couldn’t find a video specific for beauty but your channel inspired me on exploring the self portrait including my work! Keep up the good work! 😊
Amazing!! I used to built studios in very small rooms. Playing with what I had. So nice to hear that you are building yours! 😍 I hope you enjoy my channel! :)
I have curtains for a backdrop and I HATE the wrinkles it produces. Paper is definitely the way to go. Hey Laura, your channel is really exciting. I unsubscribed from a bunch of old, juggernaut worn down photography channels, I like your fresh and new approach. You seem relatable to a lot of us newbies and the problems we encounter.

All my tripods are Manfrotto, at least for now! 😄 My backdrop stands that are now in Spain, also Manfrotto. For light stands I use low budget ones from Neewer. 😊
I love your video & your energy is fantastic. Great to have it broken down like this - photographers can get much too technical and I'm very much just in my first couple of years as a professional. I'm based in New Zealand and with house prices here we haven't got the ability to go into a bigger house - our house is tiny - to allow me to set up a studio - and I'd like more flexibility when it comes to family photos instead of being beholden to the weather all the time. I'm getting a hobby room built that I wasn't going to use as a studio. but a writing room. It's 2.4 x 2.4 m with double doors that open onto a small deck. I actually think maybe I could make it work as a studio, initially as a natural light studio. I'm really interested in what lens you use for portrait photography. And your portraits are stunning by the way, wow.
Never seen someone give so much fantastic information, thank you so so much! All the while saying "I don't know" a million times, I found that ironic and funny. Thanks again

Hi Laura, thanks for your content and for this video, very helpful. I'm just starting with food photography and regarding lighting, would you recommend the Phottix RGB m200r, I've seen some food photographers using it in different shootings at restaurants. Thank you
Tu qué me recomendarías ? gracias
Gracias :)
Hi Jimmy! Thank you so much! 🙏🏼 As a first backdrop, if you don’t have white wall (it perfectly works for portraits), I would take white. If you separate your subject from the back, you will be able to get the white backdrop looking grey. 😊 I personally love shooting with black backdrop as well. So it is up to you what you like more. :)

Yessss! Such a nice comment to read. I’m so happy to know that this video helped you. Sometimes it can be very overwhelming thinking about building a studio but as you can see here, there are many ways to save money and space. I’m glad you liked my Ikea hack! 😄 Best of luck and I hope you enjoy my channel! :)
@@LauraBC Thank you Laura! I just did a photoshoot using your tips and it went really well. Thanks for much for the great tips and tricks! I love you channel!

Hi Laura, thanks for your content and for this video, very helpful. I'm just starting with food photography and regarding lighting, would you recommend the Phottix RGB m200r, I've seen some food photographers using it in different shootings at restaurants.
Thank you

Absolutely phenomenal work Laura! Keep it on!
Thank you so much Ricardo! :))) ❤️
Tu qué me recomendarías ? gracias
I am learning alots from this and you really made it easy Laura so Much respect for you ❤
Gracias :)

Thanks Laura! Your vids and tips are godsent. ✨
First video i see on your channel. Really helps out a lot. New sub. What color whould you recommend for portrait as a first backdrop? White, grey?
Such a helpful video! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge
