@@user-xt4gh7tn9p Same, that shit was wild. I'm actually interested to see how far he'll go with CSM compared to that, you can see that Part 2 feels more in-line with Fujimoto's typical way of writing.
@@jasmintea8825 Content-wise we've definitely got similar stuff to this before in CSM, but I'm talking more so about how far it went and the way it felt/was written. Also the narrative structure of this arc in general. It's difficult to explain, but when you read the latter half of Fire Punch you'll understand exactly what I'm talking about.
I think a big theme of part II has been ignorance and how that ignorance breeds destruction. Fami has a whole scales motif going on with her earrings (as well as the whole Justice devil thing at the beginning). The idea of people living their lives, ignorant to the starvation and destruction of others, fits into her deal as a horseman. While the entire city is falling apart, Fami steers the conversation to food and sushi restaurants. When Denji is worried about the body at the train station, Haruka shrugs it off and says that it'll be taken care of and they shouldn't worry. When Denji beats himself up after Nayuta's disappearance, Yoru turns it into a "romantic" situation. Every time the characters are close to recognizing how bad things have gotten, they get sidetracked and distracted.
Fujimoto's style of storytelling for chainsawman is basically great writing behind a layer of juvenile crassness and dark humour You either enjoy that layer, tolerate it or you just probably don't like it Nothing wrong if that sort of style isn't your thing, but it's part of what makes chainsawman and Fujimoto great in general. And I wouldn't have it any other way
I do not understand why there are still Chainsaw Man readers who hate Denji and write him off as just a dumb, horny character on numerous occasions when we have seen him prove time after time that he is more than just that. Do readers willfully forget that Denji defeated Makima by just a simple *hunch* ― that she only perceives others through scent and has never really seen Denji for who he is and only had eyes, or in his words, "scent," for Chainsaw Man? I can totally see Denji realizing in the alleyway that perhaps Asa/Yoru is more like him ― a devil hybrid. My *_theory_* is that after Yoru told Denji that the "other her" likes him and that her feelings (Asa's) flowed into her, Denji's eyes widened just like all his other epiphany panels/scenes in some of Part 1, and a lot in Part 2. See, Denji is not stupid. Granted, we all know that Denji is not very clever when it comes to book smarts; it is obvious that the boy has no formal education due to his impoverished upbringing (old news, I know). However, what he does have is street smarts to survive the hellish childhood he endured. He is still incredibly, and understandably, ignorant and socially miles behind in many ways, but Denji knows how to pick up on things. Plus, I think Sufferents may be on to something with the "building" theory. Because if a hand is going to come cascading out of the sky and instant transmission them to Hell... then we could meet Power again, but as enemies ― "When devils die in this world, they're reborn in Hell. I won't be me anymore though. So if we meet again, it'll probably be as enemies. Denji. Go find the Blood Devil. Find them, and make friends with them somehow... and turn the Blood Devil back into Power again." ~ Power from Chapter 92 (pp 14-15).
Part 1 felt like Adolescence, we see a young kid deal with shit, he gets a small tease of little things in life that he can appreciate all for it to go down the shitter in the end and now Part 2 feels like a mindless Adult who is just going through the motions. Theirs no fun, everything serious, school has been over for awhile and Denji is a back to square one before Poochita. Who does he truly even care about besides maybe Nayuta?

I’ve been rereading part 1 of CSM and there’s a distinct difference in the way he draws chapters now but I’ll say the foreshadowing he’s done is incredible. It answered a few questions I had for part 2 but done in a way that’s not blatantly obvious at first. I believe some folks that are new and old to CSM have to understand that pacing also matters in a work of fiction and Fujimoto is doing that just not in a way to their liking.

The lighting in the alleyway is definitely intentional imo cause like you said, you see the same thing with Asa and Yoru before Asa pushes Yoru into the wall and punches her
Theres a lot to unloop here. Denji is not really in love with Asa. He likes her, but not has much to write poems and having her stuck in his head. This is bad for both Yoru and Asa, because loving somebody and not being loved back is awful Then is the autism of Asa. She is stunted, she is emotionally hurt or undeveloper or is just the autism that make her act like that, or a combination of that, but the result is a person that is not good for denji, that can receive love but is very bad at giving love. Denji is uberconfused with this. Who would not be confused here? more he since he lack the experience and street smarts. Our denji is stupid but is not a idiot. He outsmarted makima, and makima outsmarted everyone else. He need time, and maybe some friendly hand to sort all this and make choices. But I don't think fujimoto is here to help these characters, he will probably operate the manga like a torture room where we will be trapped.

Thats bc most of his assistants have thier own mangas now. If u see thier manga u will see they are brilliant as artists. And thus without them the art truly is lacking from part 1. Possibly the reason fuji tries to avoid fight scenes.
