Explanation - Zack Hugh (Banjō Ginga) is the titular "Running Man," the undefeated champion of the "Death Circus" racing circuit and has raced for 10 years. Competitors race in high-speed Formula One-like craft, and spectators bet on the lives of these people for huge winnings. We soon discover Hugh has telekinetic abilities which he uses to destroy the other racers, after quietly observing him in the dark, chronically over-using a training interface inside his penthouse. As the race ends in his favor, the monitors in the pit display "LIFE FUNCTIONS TERMINATED." Mysteriously, though seemingly dead, Hugh continues around the track and is overtaken by a spectral racer. He attempts to employ the same strategy, straining to destroy the opponent, but in truth it is against his own mind. The force of the telekinesis is directed inward which rapidly tears both Hugh and his car apart. The Death Circus is permanently shut down afterwards; Reporters believing the event's true draw was the spectators' need to see how long Hugh could beat death.
I discovered this song/video over 7 years ago and I was never able to find it again. I even doubted I had actually watched it. Tonight I came across it and it is the best feeling ever! This is a masterpiece.
This song immediately transports me to a different world, that is at the same time fascinating, and wonderful, but extremely dystopian, and that somehow makes me feel nostalgic for it.
This makes me feel like I'm on a drive to nowhere, speeding down an empty highway, going dangerously fast, yet feeling like everything is moving in slow motion. It's 3am. The city is asleep, but I'm awake trying to accept how nothing in my life will ever be the same.
the sheer intensity of this has stuck with me for years now. I'm commenting after all this time because this particular song and segment always lurks deep in the darker thoughts of my mind, waiting for me to forget just to remember again - the combination of the art and the song leave me completely breathless and numb in the mind still after 9 years. I cannot fathom a deeper, more meaningful combination of media.
This animation is the best and most intricate style of animation there is, involving more hours of work than any other type. The movie was highly underrated and should go down as one of the best in animation history. Something about riding the last stand is amazing

it's not only that, the driver had a personal disorder and he also had telekinesis, he thought he was killing the guy in front of him not knowing he was killing himself because of his disorder which made him confused.

Probably the best combination of video and music I've ever seen. As if they were made for each other from the very beginning, not separated by 20 years.
No, there are 3 segments and this segment ("Running Man") was directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri and not Katsuhiro Ōtomo. Katsuhiro directed the third segment ("Construction Cancellation Order").
Music is pure emotion, it's crazy to think that a few notes can bring a tear to your eyes. The sudden shift in tone, the essence of a soul embedded into a masterpiece. Art.
lorn i just discovered it and it feels like music i have heard before maybe in another life. i swear i have heard these before even though i just discovered them.
+Rin Tohsaka Not sure where you're from but censorship in the UK 80s was very strict from the BBFC who pretty much banned and cut every video nasty. Today, movies get away with a lot more, a 12a is more like a 15. I don't know what Japans censorship is like or if anyghing has changed but there has certainly been a saturation on anime.
I get full body goosebumps and chills up and down my spine and my mind goes fuzzy every time this song plays. and i don't mind it one bit. not to mention the visuals are beautiful and go so well with the song.
MetaCitizen I only learned of Lorn 1 1/2 days ago on Rage, Australia's music video show. I have listened to this track at least 6 times, and sent the video to all of my friends. I can't get enough of this.
In short: The seasoned undefeated champion “Zack Hugh” of the “Death Circus” has won yet another victory. His trick? While all other drivers are physically there. Zack uses telekinesis to control his car, and a cyborg driver... In this scene: The race is won, and the champ remains undefeated. After all of the other drivers have left the track. Zack goes for a victory lap. He continues to drive on, tearing around the track. A ghost driver suddenly appears. There can only be one champion.. Even after his body is pushed past its ultimate physical limit.. He pushes even further, past death to finish the race. They say it was a ghost of his past self he saw out there on that track...
I remember that day, when i found this track. I was sitting on window sill and watched the city from high building, outside the window was rainy. And this track fullfilled all that, what was happening in the city.
The anime is a short for the Running Man. A racer with telekinesis. The story is told from the narrators', a writer, point of view. It is one of the best ever made. The music at the end is haunting.
I don't know why, but this song brings up feelings of loss, specifically makes me remember a friend I had who took her own life a couple years ago. RIP Rachel.
This music tingles that certain part of my brain. The part that starts sparking up when you think too long about he concept of darkness. The one that sparks up when you try to understand the size of the universes around us. It’s like the fear of the unknown mixed with this helplessness and intimidation that whatever is out there, is better at surviving than you are. That it knows more somehow. The video is awesome and really extends this feeling but just. My god. There’s something absolutely unsettling about listening to this with nothing but your own thoughts too.
Excellent comment. English is not my first language, so I can't put it into words as good as you did. But this is what I associate with the vibe this song gives me: Are you really ready for the world out there? Are you going to make it? Are you ready to face your own death one certain day?
This gives me a more hopeless dismal and truly gray feeling, not yet black, yet decidedly very much so darker than white, despondent dreary and most of all.. Dingy. It feels ironically despite it's dystopian aura, very much so real
Nothing is more motivating than the impending sense of doom. Living our lives, we forget about our own demise, we forget about the fact that all of us will eventually die. When death comes closer, we can just regret that we haven't done more, that we can't do more. How many times do we live shallow, searching for cheap pleasures instead of fighting for what we truly care? Whenever I hear this song, it just makes me a bit more motivated to sort my life because the worst sin someone can do is not trying to fulfil his own potential. The guy in the anime chased his dream so much he eventually tried to catch his future self... . This song is more about life than death. We live cause we die.
Sometimes I like to lay in bed at night, when everyones asleep and not a single foreign sound can be heard, apart from the faint buzzing in my lights, my heartbeat and this song playing quietly on my phone beside me. Sometimes its great to have a minute of silence to yourself, when no one can say anything to hurt you, even my thoughts go silent. Sometimes I let a tear roll down, to remind myself I have come this far, and I will continue to go further. Sorry guys, Im feeling nostalgic tonight...
Vance Apollo I'm doing that right now. It's 5am and quiet enough that I can hear my heart beating. This music really complements the melange of silence.

it's not only that, the driver had a personal disorder and he also had telekinesis, he thought he was killing the guy in front of him not knowing he was killing himself because of his disorder which made him confused.
When you are in this state of mind, it hits twice powerful
Found Lorn on Christmas Eve (technically christmas) at 3am my Junior year of high-school, there will never be an artist to emotionally and physically effect me more than Lorn. In probably the most vulnerable moment of my entire life, I was saved by the most melancholic sounds to have ever been produced. I cannot explain how much this music means to me, Thank You!
btw Anvil is the best song, but this is the best vid B)
It has meaning, I'm glad you found comfort in it.
Omg same. I've followed his work since then... and it's really inspired my general artistic mood and style ever since. It's like this grungy, gritty, textural thing that just stays with u. It's so cool.
Acid Rain for me but I definitely see what you mean
This is amazing. I feel the same and ALSO YES. Anvil is the best one in my opinion as well !!
I just found lorn....his music has so much emotion it's crazy...you can feel it tells a story without any words...
You should do gaming or something
thank you finally somebody knows what i mean..lol its hard to descirbe his music or be ready for it i was at a particular moment in my life i needed it funny someone a long time ago showed me him and i wasnt ready i remember not liking it at first now i love him cant get enough its funny young mind i had i really had no clue then,

Always wind up in synthwave territory around 2 am into my 4th or 5 drink. It's the reset button. Don't even need to blow on the cartridge.

I was tripping yesterday listening to that and my brain exploded. Lorn is amazing
I saw this animation for the first time in the early 90's on liquid television. Pretty surprised and pleased to see it here.
if you're going through hell, keep going

sorry signs if you are going through hell, be there for a reason xD

You know what the devil said about hell? "Welcome to hell! Who gives a shit!".
Sorry signs
Meaning of the video - Zack Hugh (Banjō Ginga) is the titular "Running Man," the undefeated champion of the "Death Circus" racing circuit and has raced for 10 years. Competitors race in high-speed Formula One-like craft, and spectators bet on the lives of these people for huge winnings. A Marlowe-esque reporter (Masane Tsukayama/Michael McConnohie) is sent to interview the mysterious Zack outside of the track and watches one of his races. He soon discovers Hugh has telekinetic abilities which he uses to destroy the other racers, after quietly observing him in the dark chronically over-using a training interface inside his penthouse. As the race ends in his favor, the monitors in the pit displays "LIFE FUNCTIONS TERMINATED." Mysteriously, though seemingly dead, Hugh continues around the track and is overtaken by a spectral racer. He attempts to employ the same strategy, straining to destroy the opponent, but in truth it is against his own mind. The force of the telekinesis is directed inward which rapidly tears both Hugh and his car apart. The Death Circus is permanently shut down afterwards; the reporter believing the event's true draw was the spectators need to see how long Hugh could beat death

thanks for that!
I was wondering about the meaning of the short for over 6 months.
You nailed it! great work, Loved this movie btw

Badass
The YT algo just knows when I'm blazed I swear to god
The combination of art and music here perfectly describe a man's life journey in one word, Suffering.
Probably the best combination of video and music I've ever seen. As if they were made for each other from the very beginning, not separated by 20 years.
yep, best combination, i wait this ispirated for more videos and musics
This has an Akira vibe to it.
thinking the same thing
the music too
This is part of a small movie from back in the 90s called Neo Tokyo, check it out!
omg same director!!!!! now it all makes sense, thanksssss
No, there are 3 segments and this segment ("Running Man") was directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri and not Katsuhiro Ōtomo.
Katsuhiro directed the third segment ("Construction Cancellation Order").
I really miss that late 80s early 90s anime aesthetic...
I don't know why songs like these make me cry. This music sounds like how pain feels. It's intensely emotional.
💙🌌
Music is pure emotion, it's crazy to think that a few notes can bring a tear to your eyes. The sudden shift in tone, the essence of a soul embedded into a masterpiece. Art.
God i just love the older style of anime, such a high contrast between the low saturation of the normal scenery colors and the neons everywhere else.
Corrodan Anime had less of a budget back then and wasn’t as popular around the world why did the animation change
@@magicman3163 Once anime hit mainstream, lazy and greedy companies churn out as much as they can in the shortest time period for more profit.
there is an anime coming out that has a modern and 80s/90s artstyle mix it looks very cool. Name: *Cyberpunk Edgerunners*
lorn i just discovered it and it feels like music i have heard before maybe in another life. i swear i have heard these before even though i just discovered them.
im not happy y
ExEDE exactly
Its like you can picture and feel an image that is within' your mind. A place where have been or going to be. That is some deep thinking haha
Gaby V That's crazy, I feel the same way!!!
off topic but A+ ERASED profile picture
Went searching for Sunset OST themes and Sega. Getting here was entirely by chance. So glad I did.
here from Dave and Dapper, may they rest in peace ❤️
I can't listen to this song without thinking of these visuals. Totally matched the late 80s anime style.
+Ronald Jones Yep, incredible how well it fits
anime use to be scary as shit back in the day....
with the old VHS commercials, does anyone else relate?
***** heh,likewise :)
Fuck yes. One piece is gay.
yep! I agree, ninja scroll and ninja resurrection are still terrifying
Real manga.
I get full body goosebumps and chills up and down my spine and my mind goes fuzzy every time this song plays. and i don't mind it one bit. not to mention the visuals are beautiful and go so well with the song.
i cant believe something like this exists. fabulous. immaculate.

Lorn meets Yoshiaki Kawajiri?! How much better can it get? Very fitting. 😎😎👍
100,000 views! You guys are insane. I'll do a new lorn video this weekend for you all.
For the record, I did 3 of them. 😁
MetaCitizen your doing a great job.lorn is amazing :)
MetaCitizen I only learned of Lorn 1 1/2 days ago on Rage, Australia's music video show. I have listened to this track at least 6 times, and sent the video to all of my friends. I can't get enough of this.
+MetaCitizen this should have double the views
+MetaCitizen sub to my channel please
In short: The seasoned undefeated champion “Zack Hugh” of the “Death Circus” has won yet another victory.
His trick? While all other drivers are physically there. Zack uses telekinesis to control his car, and a cyborg driver...
In this scene:
The race is won, and the champ remains undefeated.
@Ivan Jimenez it's. In. The. Description.
Ivan Jimenez Neo Tokyo. The running man.
@Ivan Jimenez your. Welcome. Not. Smart. At. All.
The Anime is called "Neo Tokyo"
He wasted his life for nothing if we are being honest.
This song and video combo is incredible. Very ethereal and terrifying.
7 years later & im still drawn back into this intoxicating song 🥺🥰
you are your own worst enemy
And you are your best friend at the same time!!!
irrelevant amd lame
well if you believe more in somebody else than yourself, you are the lame irrelevant one(Mic drop)
@@cashiercontrol4392 It sounds like he was talking about the clip, rather than the music.
@@yodaone1574 no im not
I remember that day, when i found this track.
I was sitting on window sill and watched the city from high building, outside the window was rainy. And this track fullfilled all that, what was happening in the city.
What genius put these two together 🖼️ + 🎶
That fact that i saw this when i was so young that i thought it was a dream. NEO TOKYO thank you lorn.
The anime is a short for the Running Man. A racer with telekinesis. The story is told from the narrators', a writer, point of view. It is one of the best ever made. The music at the end is haunting.
this shit trippy as hell
Ewok
check out Kill the Noise by Black magic. claymation and gory as all hell. super tripped out.
blackmagicbyktn
I don't know why, but this song brings up feelings of loss, specifically makes me remember a friend I had who took her own life a couple years ago. RIP Rachel.
Sorry for your friend, bro
aswell right now me too feeling so loss inside
80s 90s anime will never be matched bro
This video just goes so well with this track.
Yes, you perfectly described it.
I would love to know more people like you with excellent feeling of moment and understading conecpts of unknow reality. Thank you for your comment !
I randomly found this a year ago and H A D to find it again. I’m so glad I did.
It's amazing ! brillaint choice of animation
That’s cool In all but I found this song because of the doge sex meme

I feel yah. Discipline is rewarding.
The dude makes the best "Cyberpunk" music in the world. Thumbs up.
This song gives me some good Blade Runner vibes and Lorn and Dolor often collab ua-cam.com/video/mNsL1LLHOzk/v-deo.html
This reminds me of Hans Zimmer, and i mean this in the best way possible. Absolutely beautiful...
Anime used to be so organic and thick with atmosphere. It used to captivate us
with a eerie presence of another world that we could only dream of.
You know those nights when its so silent you can almost hear yourself think?
same, let's all feel nostalgic together lol
Vance Apollo I'm doing that right now. It's 5am and quiet enough that I can hear my heart beating. This music really complements the melange of silence.
👌🏽
Sometimes i listen to this and touch myself innapropriately in public..........
I don't remember F Zero being so intense!
AnyBodyWannaPeanut if this is what fzero really was, I'd be so deep into that shit my face would be gone from all the awesome melting it
Always when I see the intro I think like "that's the newest technology to date at 1987. It was all they had. They want to be able to come everywhere in the future." and now man we are living it.. in 2021 ..
This song was played by Aphex live Twin in Mexico 2019! I was there and i didn't knew that until now.
