- The Hardest race in Gran Turismo 7, the Gr1 Prototype Series at Suzuka. I've re-made and fully re-tested this race with the most recently update to GT7 to explore which cars work the best, what the best strategy for fuel, tires and weather plus a full lap guide to help you along the way.

UPDATE 1.31 Changes a few things with physics and PP calculations, I re-tested this and doing 1 stop strat with the Porsche 919 but using Medium tires still works

@Doughtinator did your car’s PP change after the update? I bought the 919 but my points are about 30 lower with the exact same setup
Yeah it’s way lower than in the video. Which means you can run medium tires. Though the PP is lower it still performs well 👍🏻
on my race it start raining pretty heavy at lap 5-6
its my 4th try and same keep raining lol

I finally beat the race in the time it took for your video to finish. The difference maker, the only thing I even changed, was maxing out downforce. I didn’t even win but I was using the LM55 so I’ll take third in that and collect my menu book finally thank you.
FINALLY I was able to beat this race with the 919. You REALLY have keep an eye on that weather radar. Setting TC to 5 helped too

I'm having a love/hate relationship with this race since it's part of the weekly challenges. Thank you for this awesome (if slightly older) video.
I started GT7 using chase cam. As I got more proficient, I moved to bumper cam, then to hood cam. I love using cockpit view but some, like the Porsche 919 are horrible. So I tend use either cockpit or bumper cam. I love listening to the whine of the transmission.
Yeah transmission noise sounds awesome.
I used chase cam when I started out with controller.
I've always used bumper cam or bonnet cam since gt3 .
I find chase cam alot more harder for some reason
any cam apart from cockpit makes it a kids game, sounds like ego is driving you,

Gt7 is a joke,done this race finish 10th no pit stop at all,ai cars pit in 1 sec they out

Jus finished in 2nd with the 908 HDi Peugoet Gr.1 Car on Hard Difficulty. I also spun out jus as the rain started😂

Thx for the setup, i was really struggling with this race (controller).
Best i could do was 2nd place. I finally won with medium tyres at start en switch to soft at the end of lap 6. I had the race without any rain luckily. FM is switched between 3 and 4. 💪👍
At the finish i had a 12 second lead.

@@Doughtinator funny enough in like the ten different runs I did it only lightly rained once. Now that I know how to handle the course I'm sure it will downpour on my next try 🤣

Changed some stuff around and used the mclaren vgt instead, but the strat helped me get 1st. I rained very hard which oddly helped me i think.

I have done it four times for the accounts, really enjoyed it, I had rain three times 😁. I wish that there were more like this or the divine comedy. I use roof cam, when on controller it's chase cam 😁

After looking last, the SF19 won it easily. I was 100% using the incorrect car in that instance 😅
One pit stop on 8 for gas/ RH the whole time, heavy rain on 5-8 but still managed on average 1:50 per lap. Thanks again for your help!!

I have guides for the other two races. They were made with an earlier version of GT7. The tire wear was much less then. I do think the strategy will still work though.
Great Video helped me out I did the 911 no stop Strategy and it worked out Great even tho I had too stop one time because it started raining and I had too change tires. Dont fuel ur car in this Situation and u will win. 🫡

Does the overtake work on the SF19 in this race? Noticed it had the HUD element for it but didn't see if you used it or not.
It’s a VERY good point. It does work however I found it best to not use it for a few reasons. It makes it harder to plan for fuel. The overtake button does drink a bit more fuel when in use. Secondly. It’s more things to think about. The car is already fast enough. Suzuka is a hard track. Keep it simple and consistent. 👍🏻
A great video, Chris. Every race I've had there it has pelted down. I actually tried the Bugatti Gr1 (Chiron VGT?), and was doing okay until it lost TOTAL grip on the hairpin - more than once - and sorta acquaplaned off, in the DRY.
In your opinion is this a feature of the new physics, where cars can just lose total grip and crash? I've even had this happen with the Porsche 904
But, back to the race :-) The Super Formula looks the way to go, I reckon. I'll try it, but the Porsche fits the bill for the spirit of the race - Gr1 cars. The open-wheeler seems a little like cheating, lol.

EDIT: I use VR, and some of those cars have a REALLY narrow FoV. I guess I could try out the view from the cockpit (which is adjustable in VR) in the VR Showroom, but the Super Formula may be the way to go if I want a good view!
I’ve not experience the loss of grip you mention in this update… yet. I’ll keep an eye out for it.
The weather in this race is VERY random it’s so hard to tell.
SF is definitely the most normal car to drive. Just be careful on corner exit until you’re beyond 3rd gear.

Does this car lower the impeller during the race because it is a hybrid? does it lose power?

@@Doughtinator I even got pushed into the sand on lap 7 from someone spinning out and still managed to hold position. Ran full lean the whole race and put intermediates on lap 6. Rain started lap 7 till the end but the car had consistent grip I was able to push just as hard in the rain 😎👍
I have completed 3 months and have not been able to win. The type of vehicle I use is Toyota TS050 16 Hybrid. What is the solution and what is the best vehicle to use in order to win?

I've been told the lm55 gets the job done fairly easy. But is it the gr1 version or non gr1 version?
I’ve heard that’s a great choice. I would assume it’s the Gr1 version. But check a few other comments that recommend it and ask them. A lot of helpful people in here 👍🏻
I used the stock Gtr Lm Nismo. Level Easy. Racing Mediums. finished 15th place😅.
I also used Racing Intermediates.

From memory I used the 1983 Golf, tricked-out to the max. I think I even had Nitrous, but I could be wrong.
Since I got the PSVR2, I find there's no other way to race! It's SO MUCH BETTER! There's no comparison to being able to look through the turns.

Won this in the 919, started on hards, rain started on lap 4 so pitted for full wets and took it easy for the rest of the race. Fuel map 3 for the whole race and a quick top up during the pit stop. Was playing on a PS4 with a Thrustmaster T150 if anyone was curious. Thanks for the guide!

A used the Super formula 2023 with Fuji tunnig and medium tires
On the first lap the rain started
So i pit, put IM and refuel
Nobody else pitted, so at the same exit lap i overtook everybody
Pitted again on the 8th lap, IM again, no need to refuel
Win with a lap of advantage

Interesting question. Without any setup work or tuning. The mid engine cars are typically harder to drive. Lambo. Ferrari. Audi etc are all hard work.
With a bit of tuning they can be great. But the default setups aren’t ideal.
The newest AMG is a solid choice 👍🏻

@@Doughtinator I was using the Nissan and that thing was rearwheel and sucks at the corners then I tryed the Porsche and it stick like glue on the track due to being 4wd

100% this guy is playing on easy mode. It rains every single attempt on my runs either lap 2 or 5 and A.Wilk dose not pit laps 3, 6 and 9 he pit lap 4
A lot keeps changing with patches and updates.

Nop, Still doesn't work no matter the car I try or the configuration I try, its literally impossible with normal luck. Idk what u do to have that amount of luck to never get rain, or only get a few droplets.
On my races it always rains for 2 to 4 laps, flushing water like crazy, making u do 2 pitstops if u don't want to keep spinning round and round. Then u can't obviously counter this by putting soft tires because it exceeds the PP limit.
So facing this, these 3 races are literally impossible to beat unless u spent 5M on a car that appears once in a lifetime on the unique dealership, or u have an immeasurable amount of luck to never get rain.
And don't come answering this that I drive bad or any other lame excuse, I literally play this game on a controller with no driving assists turned on, and made 1st place in every single other race besides these 3 (and the neoclassic challenge because I don't have 5M to spend on a car).
I'm not hating on you, its just this game is not balanced (as we see from the GTR being broken in a various number of pro races).

The Toyota isn’t quite as good as the Porsche 919 👍🏻
