Today we have something Tommy literally knows nothing about besides movies and tv shows.
Today is all about the prohibition in the US during the 1920s aka the Roaring 20's.
We all know America is an insane place to be and a clown show, that will be even more solidified after you see what happens during this time in history.
Gonna be learning a lot today, from Al Capone and Wayne Wheeler to how women rose up and made some big changes happen when no one was expecting them to.
IT'S PROHIBITION TIME!
REMEMBER! This is all educational and for entertainment! We will moderate comments, so behave yourself and keep it educational.

During his autopsy it was discovered that Al Capone's brain was riddled with scars and lesions from stage 3 syphilis. The neurological damage is thought to be a large reason behind his bombastic extreme violence mixed with benevolence and grandstanding behavior that made him both effective as a mob boss and adored as a public figure.
Idk, can someone source this?

12:45 in addition to “Liberty cabbage,” the town of Potsdam, Missouri was renamed “Pershing,” after the American general. they brought back the term “liberty cabbage” for World War II. My grandmother, who was a teenager during the Second World War, told me that just a day or two after Pearl Harbor, a street in her town called “German Street,” was swiftly renamed “American Street.”
americans man
@@TommyKay Chicago has so many people of german/Irish decent in the police that we never enforced the prohibition and never renamed our german monuments during the war. Still called Sour kraut cabbage tho. We are proud to have the largest german style Christmas market in America every year in downtown Chicago
@@TommyKay Kraut! Jk love you. ❤️
Yes, German Americans were shunned too. My great grandfather forbid the speaking of German in the family for fear of reprisal. Sadly, I only know a few German words now.
Apparently a guy grew up on Dutch street. It was renamed to Liberty Street. Oh america
7:30 The line is actually right, It’s the Oklahoma panhandle. The strip of land was claimed by Texas but over time the state was shrunken down. For a long time it was only inhabited by natives, so was deemed a no mans land. in 1862 Congress said it was unable to be settled, so a bunch of settlers went there anyways and tried to establish a territory there called the Cimarron Territory. It was officially & unofficially surveyed throughout the 1880’s and given to Oklahoma in 1890.
Ur wrong
@@antigov7839 Ok Callum Kent
@@Therecreep ??
It was not "claimed" by Texas. It was Texas. But due to early voting laws texas was too big. So the panhandle was given to oklahoma. Which is just the first in a long line of oklahoma getting what texas doesn't want
Texas finally gave it up officially because they wanted to own slaves, and that part of the panhandle extended “too far north”

"Black Friday" is a good thing for businesses. It happens the day after Thanksgiving in the U.S. where almost all the stores have big sales on their items. When they make a profit it is referred to as being "in the black" hence "Black Friday". Being "in the Red" is when they lose money. It has nothing to do with the Stock Market crash.
He was on the right track, though. The stock market crash was "Black Tuesday."
It's a German thing: www.bpb.de/politik/hintergrund-aktuell/69271/80-jahre-schwarzer-freitag-23-10-2009
You know when you had your black Thursday over there it was already Friday in Europe.
Schwarzer Freitag means black friday.
The line in Oklahoma is correct. At the time, the area west of the line was a territory, not a state, and it was eventually absorbed by Oklahoma to deny Texas of land, at least to my understanding.
I thought it was a problem with slavery. After Texas was admitted, and opted to become a slave state, they has to comply with the Missouri compromise. So they gave up a small piece of land to remain compliant with the law.

They leave out alot of the George Remus story. His wife didn't just sell his shit and file for divorce. She wrote him and his own children out of his own legal business empire, liquidated all his assets, stole and hid as much of the money as she could, and left him with only $100 when he came out of prison, then she and her new corrupt boytoy prohibition agent hired an assassin to kill him for $15,000. The assassin instead felt bad for Remus, and feared getting backstabbed and instead told him everything. He killed his wife probably because his life was literally in danger at that point while she was alive.

I’m related to moonshiners from West Virginia. Moonshine is pretty easy to make, as it starts with a grain mash that ferments like beer. Then you use a still to distill the mash. I still make beer at home, and it’s common to have moonshine show up at parties.

7:50 Those lines weren't wrong at the time, the US states weren't solidified yet so parts in the Midwest were "Organized Unincorporated Territories" of the USA. You can also see that North/South Dakota aren't split.

Fungus gnats. The way I get rid of them is by drying the pots and adding only small amounts of water till gone, with sticky traps. Or use something with citric acid(not lemon or orange juice) in the water, and it'll fry the eggs and larvae
I love these videos. 😂
From watching these, it reveals many parallels of past issues with current issues.
Even though the issues are a century apart, it shows relevance and a repeat in U.S. History.
It goes to show, no one learns from the past and end up creating a new atmosphere of frustration, hypocrisy, and exhaustion.
Canada still has the prohibition in Nunavut, a territory btw to this day lmao
Alcohol is still outlawed in so counties in America. There called dry counties.
4:46 Hungary, pálinka (I don't know what is it in English)
My fathers great uncle was a trucker who made deliveries from the Canadian border back home to NYC, during this time he also delivered alcohol and other contraband hidden in the truck to both Italian and Jewish mob networks in Brooklyn. Due to this consistent “income” he was able to survive the depression better than most others.
Another name for corn whiskey (moonshine) was mountain dew. That's how the soda mtn dew got its name. Mtn Dew (the soda) was also apparently originally intended to be a mixer soda for alcohol.

Having a jury isn't a bad thing nessesary. It's there for a reason, too hinder the gorvement of overreach or tyrannical laws.
In addition separating the power of the institutions might be a good idea. Like we do in Norway, we have Regjeringen (executive), Stortinget (legislative) and Domstolen (Courts).

19:00 you serious bout that? idk if ill take you up on that cuz im insecure but respect + 100 mate
The line isn't wrong, that was just the map back then. The panhandle for Oklahoma was unorganized territory for a while. Practically no man's land.
My dude just straight up called my home state North Dakota,North Carolina and North Dakota are so far apart that I don’t even understand how he got that wrong
My grandmother used to run a speakeasy in Chicago. Polish immigrants would come looking for work in the yards. After work they wanted a drink, some food and a place to sleep. So my grandmother “watered” them fed them and then they paid for A bunk in the back. Grandpa apparently got shot through the hand by Lucky Luciano too
Now if the Czech Republic outlawed alcohol...
There wouldn't be no Czech republic anymore
yeah a jury system is SO MUCH WORSE than allowing one singular judge to decide every case. /s
Think Tommy stroked out this video roflma0
In Denmark, there are a main judge and 2 "jury members" that are common people. These jury members are purely volunteers, and they are not the deciding factor, but they do have a conversation with the judge and have a "vote".
If you plead guilty, then there are no jury members, and the case goes straight to sentencing with a panel of 3 judges to agree on the sentence.
In most types of cases, it is still up to the judge to make the final decisions, but the votes are still announced.
However in the more serious criminal cases, the 2 jury members vote count the same as the judges, and if found guilty they have to come to a consensus with the judge for the penalty.
The "jury members" are the only ones who know that they have to arrive in court at a given time, they do not know for what case before they enter the court room.
But under no circumstance can someone be almost arbitrarily sentenced by the jury.
And the judges are working as judges as a profession, they are not elected by the vote.
If a judge goes off the rails in the sentencing, such as super lenient sentences to the rich and famous or if they feel sorry for the individual, then they will be investigated by an independent agency, there will a re-trial and the judge will get a punishment or be fired.
It is not far off the system in Germany and other parts of Europe.
Imagine getting cases decided by the moron public, instead of a judge that has a degree in law. /s
@@YekouriGaming It doesn't take a genius to apply the facts of a criminal case to the law. In civil cases, the parties can waive trial by jury if the subject matter is complex.
@@bobm123 The amount of arbitrary sentences in the US justice system contradicts your statement.
@@YekouriGaming Link? Also, you're talking about sentencing now, which is a matter that has essentially no nexus to legal reasoning or expertise. A judge is not any more qualified to hand down an appropriate sentence than a member of the public.
Also during the prohibition, Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola became popular drinks. People can't have alcohol, so they'll go to the legal soda fountain for a cola.
North Dakota and South Dakota are indeed paired up, but they’re kinda in the top-middle just below the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan .
Just a hint. Roosevelt ade the great depression worse... love an economist
