Welcome back, toy enthusiasts! In this thrilling episode of Toy Federation, we delve into the world of Transformers as a dedicated collector faces a tough decision - trade or keep? Join us as we witness the highs and lows of toy evaluation, nostalgia, and tough choices.
Our protagonist, a passionate collector of G1, G2, and Masterpiece Transformers, steps into the realm of Toy Federation with a treasure trove of vintage bots. Eager to exchange them for store credit, he hopes to continue his journey through the toy cosmos.
However, the road to toy valuation isn't always smooth. Ryan, the seasoned expert at Toy Federation, meticulously assesses the worth of each beloved Transformer. As the numbers roll in, tensions rise. Will the evaluation meet our collector's expectations, or will it fall short of the mark?

Throughout this gripping episode, viewers will witness the clash between sentimental attachment and market value. Each Transformer represents not just a piece of plastic, but a chapter of our collector's journey through time. Will he choose to part with his prized possessions, or will he walk away, holding onto the memories they evoke?

Just wanted to say I really appreciate you expanding a little about the overhead costs of running a business and for instance not getting stuff complete or getting stuck with an item. People probably forget allot when they throw out prices in the comments. I'd also like to add expertise to the cost of doing business. Someone who is an expert in a field probably invested huge amounts of time into learning things for wich they never saw a dime. Anyway keep it up this is now easily my favorite UA-cam channel. To bad I'm in Europe would have loved to bring something in just to have a chat and a laugh.

@@VHSgangyou're a clown you don't even know how to works, since it's a trade they're doing credit instead of cash, and credit means the customer has to spend the credit there in the store to buy stuff. More than likely it leads to them spending even more money because they are purchasing items within the store. That's why stores and people like him give customers that kind of deal. Give them more store credit, so they shop more. Clown

@kingpolo1920, not sure if they would do it as it does not seem to be part of the theme. Also, I have been in there three times (once in September, twice this month) and yes the sections stay the same generally but the product on the floor definitely changes. I went in two weeks ago, picked up a vintage snowspeeder, he said they had just got it in on a trade the day before and had mentioned to one of the employees how they never seem to stay long if they pick one up, here I was a day later buying it. The vintage toys (figures and vehicles) for the big 70’s-80’s toy lines definitely seem to change a good bit between my stops. It does make it interesting to look and see what is there at the time. If they do a tour of the store I would still watch, I know there is a bunch of stuff I missed and there will be some new pickups or stuff that they have put out. The store is also jam packed with items (not the floor itself, you can definitely move around easy enough) but there is a lot out there, shelves are stacked. Sort of reminds you of the Toys R Us days.

It all comes down to quantities and time. When someone brings 2-3 expensive items into my store, I encourage them to sell themselves, because the time it takes to list two things is worth the extra return. But on a collection of dozens/hundreds of items, the math stops working in their favor. Between organization, photos, listing, answering questions, and buying shipping supplies/making trips to the post office, you can easily lose those extra hundreds in profit via time spent.

    • @wlnorris75

TF's buying formulations are just going to be confusing to many customers the way they go about it. Sometimes they pay 50% cash, and sometimes its 50% credit. And that depends on if it is vintage or modern, low demand or high demand, or how many they have in the back. And then they act like there cash to trade value formula is some sort of secret, and they just can't tell the customer. And then they act like they have to go back behind the counter to figure out what the trade would be.
I'm also a business that buys toys and I also mostly buy at 50% value in cash normally. I think generally that is very fair. But I don't care if it is vintage or modern. If it is a $100 toy that I can sell for $50, I just give you $50 cash; doesn't matter when it was made, its a $100 toy. If I have 20 of them in inventory, its because they aren't selling, which means it isn't a $100 toy. Lower the price to what it really is for them to move.
If you want to trade for something, multiply that cash by 1.3. Done. Now the customer knows where they stand.
So if the offer is $200 cash for all your Transformers, $260 would be trade value. You want to get a $100 figure in trade and the rest in cash; 260-100=160/1.3. $123 cash plus your $100 figure. And these 5 toys were of zero value to me because they are broke or painted, I put them all in this box. You can keep them if you want and the offer stays the same, or I'll take them if you don't want to take them back home.
Easy, straight forward, customer doesn't get confused. They can shop with their phone out and do the conversion on their own. It shouldn't be rocket science or confusing.

I live 15 minutes away here in S.C. and I have sent at least 15 people that live around here in Anderson to your shop that where like me and never knew you were so close. They all said the same thing. Nice people working there and (GREAT DEALS)! Ryan is a good dude. Y'all come on here to S.C. and check him out. It's worth the drive. It's a chill place. ✌️⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This one was hard to watch however some collectors get held up on the perceived value. Yes items can sell for X amount, but how much work and time is put into getting that price. If you go to a store you will never get close to the perceived value on anything, I have a close friend who ran a successfully comic book shop in the late 80s and all of the 90s. He still has a lot of the old store stock after shuttering the business. When you buy collections it comes with a risk for resale and sometimes you are left holding items.
Therefore the lesson here is you will never get full perceived value on your collectables as the shop buying it is taking on risk to resell it and cover business expenses and quite frankly profit margins. The private collector can always sell on website services themselves, but then they have to deal with taxes, website fees, and buyer issues in order to get that higher sale price amount. Oh and patience. Lots and lots of patience.

I had to do a little bit of a search on ways to get it going as it was not working when I first put batteries in it. Didn’t take much though, just take it apart and move the motor manually. Still makes noise and the lasers light up!

Wow, how can you not understand what he wanted?? It was so simple.
He wanted 60% of trade on the starscream with half cash on the other figure, while half trade on 39% of trade value near the closest whole dollar, and cash for 12% of the GameStop version, divided by 3.14.
    Get it together guys.

Fun episode. It's interesting to watch you have to reason with a collector/seller. I know its hard for people to let go of things they bought. Whether it's for the money or the love of the thing the reality of selling something yourself or selling to a shop is a hard pill for some to swallow, but it is what it is. Buying and selling for years I can tell you guys are fair players. Thanks for the content!
