He's a young collector. I don't think he understood in a sense of where some of his stuff was because ebay prices can be tricky and I think the modern carded figure you already gave him each $2-3 more than what I would have and if was up to me, I would have kept those modern stuff because its too early and the market has yet to grow for those.
I think some collectors don't realize, that if they sell on Ebay you are dealing with shipping costs (easily $10-15+ per item), ebay fees 13%, and then...drumroll please.... INCOME TAX which is like 25%? Add it all up, and you are easily losing 40% from an Ebay sale over taking cash from a shop.
yall were spot on. he just had 1800 value and didnt realize he was gonna get hit with 60% comps. he slightly overvalued, once he realized it he was happy.
As a collector, if you want more for your collection, never sell to a toy store. They have to make money as well. It is best to be a vendor at your local events or sell on your local social media club. On the bright side, I'm glad everyone was happy.
Exactly! Those guys will under value everything you have present and try to sell it for more. I have had to call out a few stores for doing this. I went in and bruised what they had to see if they are selling similar items I had and for how much. I then went in and asked them how much they would take for a few vintage SW and vintage Mego figures, all carded and unopened. The price they gave me was ridiculous. When I showed them what they were selling less pristine figures for that were wrapped in plastic bags, one store owner got upset and told me he doesn’t want me in his shop anymore. I told him he doesn’t need to try to rip people off thinking we don’t know the value of what we have. The other guy tried to play it off and said he didn’t even realize he had some of those items and tried to change his offer. I refused and walked out. I stick to selling things on Ebay.
To be fair. I've been to toy stores where I got amazing deals on figures that eBay was selling at outrageous prices.. example Darth nihl 60 bucks and JLU Solomon Grundy mint in box 35 bucks when that was going for 100 easy. But selling to them yeah they damn near want to rape you with no Vaseline 😂😂😂
@@jtjames79 Stores undervaluing merchandise and selling it for prices marked up to ridiculous prices. I know exactly how crooked comic book stores work, idiot.
I think him asking “are you happy?” shows that there still are people who love collecting and want to make sure trading/selling is as smooth and painless as possible free as possible. Great episode!
Yeah, it's the guys at toy federation that make this channel so great. Looks like they're running out of space in their building though. I'm an architect and have been designing a new place for them based on the legion of Doom. Just something to putz around with. Maybe if I ever make it up to the shop to sell some of my stuff I could show them.
@@bigm8785 Don't quote me, but I think Ryan bought five stores in that building. There's a video or two that shows off all the other space. So it's just about tearing down some walls and gettin' it all ready to increase the size of the showroom area.

Trading and selling is different from collecting .
Literally just subbed after watching for a while because of that. “You know more than I do..” “I know” lol. He does though… but… didn’t rake him over the coals. Pawn shop for toys. I can’t buy a new guitar for $1,000.. keep it for decades, then go sell it for $999 if it’s not desirable, but he explained where his numbers came from, explained what he would pay, and then charge, and made a very firm, but polite business deal. Great channel!
yup i sold my old collection back in 2018 ua-cam.com/video/hnE_cUnAgO8/v-deo.html it was every where so i started all over, i got $1,800 bucks for it and i was ok with this. this is my new collection as of 2024. ua-cam.com/video/fv7Wt1ddFe8/v-deo.html
They should know going in I have a value and they will offer me half that cause they came up with the same number you did but they need to make a real profit. Staff rent overhead all these play into this its quicker cash but less value its the trade off. Sell them induvial to get a profit.
I’m Griff! I had a great time trading with Ryan he is awesome! I’ve been going to him for a few years now he has the best store around. I’ve still got my 1/4 Hot Toy boba fett displayed, and he looks great!
That's a sweet pickup, I have the Hot Toys 1/4 Darth Vader. I still need to get the 1/4 Boba Fett someday. I mostly collect 1/6 Hot Toys etc I'll never let my Kenner Star Wars collection go, I have a complete collection including Blue Snaggletooth and Yak Face.
@@Mr.L_plays It's all good 👍 Just to show my age, I played with Kenner Star Wars Toys in the late 70's to early 80's until I was heavy with video games, I would frequently go to the arcades. 👌
No, no, just no. It's a twisting of the knife as they know almost no one will tell them they're being ripped off. It's a sick tactic to make the seller feel better about the theft.
@@CW0123 Yep! I'm in Greenville, which is like the super heavily congested city adjacent to Greer. Obviously the cost of real estate in a more heavily populated spot would be astronomical. Makes sense why Ryan moved to Greer...being able to get a house/store that's 4 times the size, and 4 times less money.
Between my brother and I, we had just about everything Joe from that box. I can confidently confirm that we played with those toys to their untimely destruction and we loved them ridiculously.
Yeah, I remember when one of the neighbor kids (older than me) introduced me to smoke bombs and black cats... My Joe's never recovered from the PTSD I inflicted upon their "battlefields". There was another kid in the neighborhood who never "played" with his Joe's, and if I'd found a more comfortable medium between the two ways, maybe I'd still have more of my stuff as an adult.
I always play with my toys but there was always those kids who had way more toys than everybody else but they fucking had them in a package up on top of a shelf somewhere where you couldn't touch them or look at them and their parents were like fucking Hawks making sure they never touched their own toys it was ridiculous I think toy collecting is fucking stupid and it's just a sign of a child like brain who never grew up on the things you loved as a kid because you're not wanting to grow up.
It's easy to buy. Selling isn't as liquid as most think unless you're willing to lose money. He could make more piecing it out but it's a lot of work and time.
I loved that you showed the entire process of buying a collection. Sometimes there’s some awkward moments when negotiating. I’ve bought and sold collections and this video is very indicative of how it goes down.
A store owner of any business asking “Are you happy?” is unfortunately so rare now. This is another example of why the Toy Federation continues to succeed despite our sour economy. The customer may not always be right, but treat them right, and they will return.
I found a toy store that was going out of business in 2016, I bought the remainder of their TMNT vintage collection stuffed in a box. My kids have broken a lot of them, but have made tons of fun memories too. That's what it's all about
Star Wars collections have taken a nose dive since The Last Jedi. It got a bump from Mandalorian S1 and S2. But its fallen off a cliff again, thanks to the Obi-wan series, and Mandalorian S3.
I will never understand Disney doing that. Now everything they bought or took over is eroding. I think the first whole set of Marvel movies was the best thing that came out of all that but I didn't like what I call the second Thanos movie. In the first one he was like all scary and imposing then, I don't know he died so quickly after. But my gripe there is more about plot. But yea with Star Wars they just took a huge dump on it. The weird Star Wars hotel. It's kind of risky doing live entertainment interaction. What if someone punches an actor? I would just keep it at like stage level, wave to the audience.
Anything from the OG era is worth its weight in GOLD but modern stuff just does not sell as now there is a big generational gap of fans as modern star wars is so out of touch it turns away not only old fans but even news one and news one wont bother watching the og stuff as they think if the modern stuff wont impress them why would the classics? its sad really.
And The Acolyte just got ratio’d into oblivion. Star Wars is finished, and it’s all thanks to Disney and Kathleen Kennedy. Sold most of my Star Wars merchandise in my man cave last year and replaced it with LOTR and One Piece merchandise. Couldn’t be happier. Star Wars is finished.
@@jasonbowman9521 The Star Wars hotel could have been good, if it only it used character that people like. You would think at some point they would say... hmmm, lets try Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. But no, they would rather just fail with Rey and Kylo.
I don't think we've anything more mishandled than Star Wars. I can't believe Disney wilfully destroyed the most famous IP in history. With every new Star Wars project, they are hammering another nail into its coffin - KK has to be the worst leader of all time.
There is a huge difference between selling to an end-buyer collector vs a reseller/store. The reseller/store is going to resell, its their whole point, so they are ALWAYS going to give you less. Otherwise, they wouldnt even exist. If you want max money, you gotta sell privately to the actual collectors wantingt the stuff. All the dorks complaining about how much he gave the guy just want easy money for no effort.
you have to look at the sold prices at auction not what people have it listed for. I learned the hard way by purchasing "buy now" and realizing that I could get something at 50% or 60% of what the item is listed on those buy now. I usually only purchase via auction at this point.@@Matt_Wilson01
I was at a toy fair in the UK a month ago. Their was a stall with all the prequel figures and vehicles. All brand new think they must have bought up old stock. I watched for a litlle while and no one even stopped and looked, let alone bought. It was sad really, i think the owner of the stand just thought "star wars that will sell!!" For me its vintage first 3 movies or nothing!
A big issue has always been market saturation with Star Wars merch. There’s a ton of Star Wars merch, always has been most of George Lucas’ wealth comes from toy licensing and he sold the heck out of everything. There’s so much merch you pretty much need to have all really rare stuff if you expect to make money off it.
I think the prequel stuff will rise in value as 90s kids like myself get older and have more disposable income. The films weren’t popular with the OT generation, but our generation loves them.
Star Wars is quite the damaged brand at the moment thanks to Disney. People aren't watching it or caring about it. Worth just holding onto them and hoping it can correct course.
Great job negotiating fellas. You both worked it out and it was nice after all that hearing Ryan say “and you’re happy?”. He didn’t need to say that but he’s a good dude and appreciates his business. This is how it should be done from both positions. Thanks for the content
@@6atlantis nobodys forcing anybody to buy from them. Tell me you've never owned a business without telling me you've never owned a business. Go watch toy hunters or some s hit. Jordan explains why that is, in the vintage toy world, if you dont understand it from Ryans point of view.
I have a ton of Star Wars toys from the late 90s; around 25+ years old now in mint condition in the box. They're worth slightly more than the cost of shipping. There are too many people that started collecting those, and then the market got flooded with online auctions like eBay. Back when you could only find stuff at a local auction, comic store, or comic-con, they were worth a lot more.
That’s because nobody cares about those figures. People only what good shit: clone wars, original trilogy, expanded universe since that’s the only good things people like. Nobody gives a shit about phantom menace
@@barkley8285 That's because those kids are 45-50+ now; they have the money for nostalgia, same as He-Man. Kids who grew up with newer Star Wars toys may be interested down the road.
The problem with Star Wars merch is it’s very over saturated. Everyone has a Star Wars toy collection. It’s not that hard to find stuff. Maybe the more specialized stuff you’re looking for might be hard to find, but there’s just so much out there.
As a newbie but fast admirer of the Toy Federation. I find it funny, how many toys I had, from your shop, that I destroyed or just threw away. It's classic to me, because I even remember thinking that It had the potential to be "valuable years from now". But, there was obviously no way I would think that would be the case. Some of these burn though. I didn't realize I had hundreds of dollars worth of future potential investments in my Transformers, GI Joe's, MASK, etc. I love reminiscing about a lot of toys I forgot about! I love y'all at the Toy Federation! your store collection and passion warms my heart!
I've always wanted one or two Arcade 1Up's...but never pulled the trigger. Being able to see and play them at walmart (at least that was a thing not long ago), was one of the coolest things out there. Once you put one on a riser, and add the themed stool...it'll make a $500 set-up look like a million bucks.
You think it was a mistake to tear down Luke and Han's characters and neglect the new ones with the exception of Rey? LOL. Yeah, Disney probably didn't do the collectors any favors.
@@gordons-alive4940toy sales are one of the best indicators of how an IP is doing. I've never seen so many SW products on clearance shelves as I have over the past few years. And yeah, maybe the method of elevating characters by tearing down the ones people love isn't the best approach, but that's all these ideologues know how to do.
So,... you were at $1,080 (cash)? (We'll call it $1,100) - The 1/4 Scale Boba Fett retail is $625. To which, by your own formula, you paid about $300 to whoever you bought it from? So,.. $300 + $500 in cash is only $800. And that's "fair"...? Let alone you're getting a remarkable wholesale discount price at 50% or more. You still keep back an additional $200...? 👌🏻 And I love how ol' boy in the background smiles with glee on the handshake.Knowing how bad my man got raked.
Definitely got raked, those vintage alone were worth way more than 1000 in today's market even at the dealer valuation. That is why I will be donating my collection to some lucky person if its still cared about 20 yrs from now!
gotta love children who think like children... what would have paid for $2500 in SW stuff if you owned a shop with a bunch of employees whom you would have to pay to get them listed and shipped? my family owns a massive antique shop, and estate sale business, and my older brother is a nationally known collectable auctioneer so i know what we wouldve paid for 100's items with value of $2500. we wouldve you paid $800-$1100 and not anything more...probably on the lower end because there are a lot of items and some wont sell quickly, so we will sit on them for a while. it takes a lot of time to have someone research, photograph, list, and then ship that many items. it takes a shop that we have to pay rent, electricity, water, internet, and insurance...as well as numerous other costs and fees like toilet paper, paper, printer ink, cleaning supplies, etc etc etc do you actually think we can afford to pay $1250 or more for $2500 worth of items that takes a lot of work and still have our doors open??? mind you, we have our own homes with bills that need to be paid as well... so i ask you again, what wouldve you paid for $2500 worth of items???
Appreciate you being 100% straight up about how your profit margins have to work for you to exist as a business. I own my own shop as well, and find myself having to explain what and how I pay basically everyday. It is a struggle to remain polite when someone is not picking up. This guy you're dealing with seems to know and understand how things work which is always a great person to deal with.
I remember when "The Death Of Superman" came out and people were on the news, standing in line, and talking about how that comic was going to pay for their kid's college.😂

@@tylerk3616not at all, other than the really rare minifigs that most collectors wouldn't have. Your average retired UCS sets has bad ROI. The best ROI is speed champions followed by the high in demand city stuff like trains. If you want high value sets, then it's either pop culture tie ins like stranger things, LOTR, Harry potter, or modulars, especially the short lived ones like brick bank. Too much star wars releases, and even despite the poor ROI, feels like a massive crash will come soon, especially as the franchise looks to be on its way down.

There's no bigger scoundrel in the universe than a comic book store employee. When you buy the shit, it is all limited edition and probably the last one left in the universe, so naturally it has to be priced more than the price guide in less than perfect condition. Then when you go to sell, it isn't worth the box it came in.
I mean. That's just how it goes with any store that buys your stuff. You're working with margins in a very niche market space. If he wanted 1800, he'd probably have to piece it out on ebay. And that's a lot of money spent on shipping, etc. Things generally are not worth what you pay for them, even more rarely worth more than what you paid for them unless they become in demand + sufficient amount of time has passed.
They gotta pay rent and employees. Stock that doesn't move is literally money lost, as a lot of them have business loans that can be paid off if they kept minimal inventory. They're usually shitty because they're socially awkward AND stressed, so they come across in the worst way possible. Being in the financial industry for many years, it's the ones who hide behind a smile who are the true scoundrels. It's the unknowns you don't know about that gives you the biggest losses. Comic book guy is usually too blunt to trick you massively.

you cannot go to a store ; dump all your stuff there and expect a super high price ! as a seller you do ZERO work ; you just take all your stuff and dump it on the store in one take . then the store has to do ALL THE WORK ; sort and price everything , clean , seek customers , open the store every morning hoping for buyers , some items will sell quick , most items will be in the store for a very long time , some items will never move ; all the risk , energy , time , work is for the store to invest . result = you get a low amount logically .
Sorry, that's discounting the potentially years of effort in amassing a collection in the first place (with the exception of someone who bought in bulk at a sale somewhere).
@@FLudlow1 it is not discounting it... it is NOT COUNTING IT... which is the correct mode of operation.... the value of the time you put into it (or effort or both) cannot under any circumstances be realized by the store.... you get that right?.... when they go to resale your item, the next buyer won't pay for the original collector's effort, they will pay for the value of that toy, whatever it is currently in the market so you need to drop that train of thought right now
I love the nervous convo at the end, like a shield to defend against the possibility of a last ditch effort by the departing collector to haggle. Meanwhile, more than $3000 has been made in the reselling of the collector's dreams.
I know nothing about toys, but I used to be a picker for 4 antique stores, and there's so many different thing you have to take account of. Sometimes people are disappointed by the offers but I told them they don't have to accept my offers.

I had an Amiga 500 and Amiga 3000 that I ended up throwing away because I couldn't find any vintage computer fan or enthusiast group to donate them to. I would've preferred giving them to someone who would appreciate them rather toss them.
How is the shop scamming him? The shop has to part with a chunk of cash when buying collections. They are getting pieces that may sit for over a year before selling. That means liquidity tied up in inventory and not being spent on something else that will sell more quickly. No one is required to sell their collection. But, if they want fast money without taking on any of the risk associated with actually selling all of it, it comes with a discount. The discount gets higher are items get more expensive unless they are in the middle of a massive market run up like 2020 when everything sold. But, when the bottom fell out of that, a lot of stores went under by paying too much in for their inventory.
It hurt my heart a little when the Star Wars guy said he didn't grow up with it, so he doesn't have the nostalgia but I can appreciate how well he took care of the toys of my childhood. We had so many Star Wars toys and cards that just got run through the ringer as kids. If only we had that magic ball to tell us these would be so valuable in the future.
I just found this channel, it's like a cooler version, nicer version of Pawn Stars 😃That's cool that this place is in SC, I figured Cali or Vegas or something haha. That's cool.
Selling to a toy store is like a gun collector selling to a GUN STORE>. They have to make their own profit margin, so they only offer 50% of what it's worth. The only way for ANY collector to get close to market value for their collectibles is direct sale to another collector (aka via online sales)
What I've learned from MY PERSONAL experiences stores and other collectors will low ball you hard as heck. Then flip what they got from you for at least 50-70% over what they gave you. It's like when the pokemon games started booming in prices. I went to a local shop and sold my Pokemon Emerald for $50, and they turned it up to over $200.
We offer half of current worth. That’s not a rip off, that’s how we operate. Sometimes when it sells in the future it’s worth more, a lot of times it’s worth the same or less.
@toyfederation I'm not saying you guys are ripping anyone off. I'm saying from my experiences in my area. What I've had to deal with, which unfortunately sucks sometimes.
I had almost the entire New Hope/Empire/Return of the Jedi toy collection as a kid. I even had 2 emperor palpatenes that were only obtained by sending in proof of purchases. He had a strong order like oil when I opened it. Sometimes I wish I was more vigilant with keeping them.
I ran a store in Dallas in the 90s called Toys from the Crypt. I can say even back then I told my sellers if they used the new platform called ebay they would make more and to make sure they wanted to sell to me before buying as I had over head and needed to make a profit to exist. Of course then the original gen 1 tfs, robotech and Star Wars were easier to come by as they were still available at service merchandise, TRU, Childrens palace, KB Toys, Sears and Roebuck and all the shops now gone forever
That USS Flagg was THE toy that I drooled over as a kid. I wanted it so badly but it was just too expensive for my parents, and honestly it was way too big to even fit in my bedroom. But man I wanted it, and I was so jealous of any of my friends who had that bad-boy. The prices that people are asking for that on eBay are just insane, but I can definitely understand why some people would be willing to pay those prices to add the USS Flagg to their collections.
I’m 40 and saved all my ninja turtles and transformers and wwf wrestlers…I used to hook the wrestling ring on my tub faucet and have matches in the bath, now my kids do the same thing with my toys and of course all the new ones…I could never put a price on them because they have made so many irreplaceable memories for multiple generations in my family…it be nice to display and sell stuff, but playing with them brings so much more in my eyes

when selling something, what you get is determined by the buyer: generally speaking youll get the most from a private buyer, no transaction/shipping fees and youre selling to someone that adds their subjective value as well as market value. The problem is getting the word out that you want to sell and find buyers. on the other end is Auctions/Ebay, youll find plenty of buyers, but after shipping/transactions/taxes/fees youre looking at 20+% from whatever you are offered. finally pawn shops: they will buy it at a price where they can turn around and sell it for profit, they arent gonna buy a 1,000 dollar item for 900 dollars. Thats not paying lease, utilties and wages. youre looking at 50% of market value. You cant show them an Ebay listing for the same item and ask they give you that. If it was that easy, then what are you doing in a pawn shop, but as already explained, the Ebay price is not whats going into your bank account
I've definitely been where that guy was before trading something in at TF. I always appreciated that if I wasn't happy with what they offered me there wasn't any pressure to commit. No hard feelings on either side. A lot of times maybe the market was taking a dip or they just knew what they could sale vs already had 20 of in the backroom. Knowing about what I expected coming in always helped because they were able to explain why it wasn't worth that (at least to them). It helped me adjust expectations next time I came by for a trade.
Does work the same as investing? Where you buy during the dip? Not saying it be as profitable but does the concept hold true? Buy low sell when and if it rises again?
Completely disagree, the fan newer fans have destroyed it. I have listened to tons of people bitch and all I hear is people complaining because not all the original characters are in every movie. People get older and pass away or killed. So yeah the characters must change. George Lucas gave us a world to creat from for ever, but you can't keep telling the same story over and over and I think that's what today's fans want. I will admit I didn't like The Last Jedi and I think they need to give us the full version of the Rise of Skywalker and what we was supposed to see. Fans of anything today are toxic, y'all dog the hel out of everything but still spend your money to go see. All I'm going to say is if not for Disney we wouldn't have Star Wars at all anymore. Again the problem today is just the society itself, if people have to think about something for themselves it's stupid and don't make sense, and hate on it. Yet you explain everything step by step and they don't have to think, they love it. I call it the Dumbing Down of America.
A lot of people wouldn’t care if Disney had never bought Star Wars. We loved the 6 movies george brought the world. Before that we loved the original 3. Disney hasn’t contributed to anything better than what we already had so if asked, no, I would rather everything Disney made disappear than continuing to get this fast food posing as Star Wars.
I agree George. Who would want that crap with the way Disney has destroyed the franchise. I can only speak for myself, but I'm definitely not alone. Star wars is unwatchable now.
Interesting seeing a deal for modern star wars, and not just the vintage figures. I like the aesthetic of vintage Star wars but don't really care to pay those high prices, and their weapons are almost always missing. Good to see Ryan excited over rare Joe blueprints.
Most of his star wars collection is either used or only a couple years old it's mostly based around the classic trilogy. If you really want a better price, you have to find more clone wars items. The prequel kids are grown up now and the demand for clone wars content is booming. Finding that stuff in the wild is starting to become harder and more valuable since the season 7 release.
says the guy watching "dorks" sell toys to other "dorks"...lol. im guessing youre too broke to afford to collect anything besides the L's youre racking up.
I am currently selling my movie item collection, shops usually sell with a 600% to 800% profit margin. Well that’s their asking price. That they give you 50% on the value is amazing
Video Suggestion: You guys should have a chyron introducing some of the employees--- or even a get to know you video of who's who, what their "expertise" is... (especially the new guys) A good way for us viewers to know who you guys all are!
You guys can save some time on cleaning those figures with paint by getting an extra soft toothbrush and using the alcohol on it. Helps get in the crevices easier.
I had a farmboy Luke..... watching this makes me wonder what journey that action figure took after I gave it away.....to my little brother, I think. Maybe it sits under glass with LEDs lighting it up 🙏
How is it a rip off when you're getting cash today for stuff that may not sell for months or years ? These shops offer a option to get cash now without having to do the leg work of selling, the unbelievable lack of common sense when it comes to selling items to a pawn shop or store like this is hilarious, the entire concept is to literally sell it for more than what you bought it for and you always get a clueless clown who doesn't understand this .
Both parties came out satisfied. “Are you happy?” was something I was not expecting. A collector giving up their collection can sometimes lead to regret, and this gent made sure this particular one was ok 👍🏼
Haha😂 you are a glass full type guy, He is a salesman selling!!! he doesn't give a F about any of this stuff that's why he's selling to make a few bucks, he's asking if he's happy to confirm the guy can't try to go back because he's already told him he's happy. Why would he be happy, he's just got a tenth of what his stuff is worth😂😂😂
I have an unopened, well kept, mint condition Darth Vader toy that I've had for about 13 years. I looked it up the other day and it was worth exactly what I paid for it lol.
Fair price considering he is selling to a store, got to be a tough job sometimes, these things are always worth a bit more to us than what they actually are, fluctuating market and a lot of the OG Star Wars guys already own this stuff or have owned it, once the customer base gets to a certain age that premium price starts dropping off hard, 70s toys are worth half what they used to be
people are saying he got ripped off. i don't think so. the easiest thing he can do is go into a store and get money for it. the toughest thing he can do is to sell each thing individually to private buyers, one by one. he'd get more money that way, but it's much more effort, time, duration etc
Serious question but what does the chat think happened to all the mail order parts supply warehouses for mail in extra parts? Did it all end up in a dumpster after the toy series was done. Just think of the millions of dollars what it would be worth now sealed?
Did you value it the same as Griff or Ryan?
Buy local and sell local. Wish I had a toy store like this near me to do trade ins with.
Dip the vader cape in a bowl of very hot water (close to boiling) and flatten it with a credit card. It will straighten out perfectly.
yall were spot on. he just had 1800 value and didnt realize he was gonna get hit with 60% comps. he slightly overvalued, once he realized it he was happy.

Ah at least the trade sweetened it - always tough when you've got a value in mind and the market moves a different way
Especially if you used over priced ebay listings as a measuring stick like so many people seem to do.
you have to look at the sold prices at auction not what people have it listed for. I learned the hard way by purchasing "buy now" and realizing that I could get something at 50% or 60% of what the item is listed on those buy now. I usually only purchase via auction at this point.@@Matt_Wilson01

The problem with Star Wars merch is it’s very over saturated. Everyone has a Star Wars toy collection. It’s not that hard to find stuff. Maybe the more specialized stuff you’re looking for might be hard to find, but there’s just so much out there.

Comic book guy is usually too blunt to trick you massively.

you cannot go to a store ; dump all your stuff there and expect a super high price !
as a seller you do ZERO work ; you just take all your stuff and dump it on the store in one take .
then the store has to do ALL THE WORK ; sort and price everything , clean , seek customers , open the store every morning
hoping for buyers , some items will sell quick , most items will be in the store for a very long time , some items will
never move ; all the risk , energy , time , work is for the store to invest . result = you get a low amount logically .
Sorry, that's discounting the potentially years of effort in amassing a collection in the first place (with the exception of someone who bought in bulk at a sale somewhere).
@@FLudlow1 it is not discounting it... it is NOT COUNTING IT... which is the correct mode of operation.... the value of the time you put into it (or effort or both) cannot under any circumstances be realized by the store.... you get that right?.... when they go to resale your item, the next buyer won't pay for the original collector's effort, they will pay for the value of that toy, whatever it is currently in the market

You better off parting out the entire collection and selling each piece. Take longer, but you won't get scammed by these shops.
Yeah but sometimes time is money, and parting out a collection can be a full time job in and of itself.
Selling to a toy store is like a gun collector selling to a GUN STORE>. They have to make their own profit margin, so they only offer 50% of what it's worth. The only way for ANY collector to get close to market value for their collectibles is direct sale to another collector (aka via online sales)
people forget the tax element. over here in Germany, if he did actually sell everything for 2,200 and initially paid 1080, he would just break even
It’s America so it’s 2,200 plus tax.
This is more like "Toy Pawn Shop"
I had almost the entire New Hope/Empire/Return of the Jedi toy collection as a kid.
I even had 2 emperor palpatenes that were only obtained by sending in proof of purchases. He had a strong order like oil when I opened it.
Sometimes I wish I was more vigilant with keeping them.
Those joe vehicles looked brand new!
Another fun episode. It's always great when your customer leaves happy. Looks like he got a shirt too.
He charged him the 500 bucks for that
I know its silly, and I've commented on other things that Ryan is wearing, but you have to appreciate a guy rocking adidas. My go to shoe :)
Enjoyed seeing the collections and all of the negotiaions. Fun times.
Glad you enjoyed!
As a big collector of toys, music and movies, 90% of the time I buy cheap so if I resell something and they give me $5, I'm a happy camper.
GI Box unpacking made my day.
I can smell that store from here.
Watching your videos is like watching Saturday morning TV for me.
I am from the UK and if ever went U.S I'd defo visit your shop, love your passion and how you care for your customers.
I am 50yrs a mego collector and lol even in my work bag have a mego batman hiding in there 😂
Collecting mythic legions and cosmics and masterverse motu.
That's a bit about me,but yeah I love watching your videos and your shop would be heaven for me 😊
when selling something, what you get is determined by the buyer: generally speaking youll get the most from a private buyer, no transaction/shipping fees and youre selling to someone that adds their subjective value as well as market value.
I’d fire the dude cleaning the yellow toy. Dudes been cleaning the same toy for a week only using a paper towel. He’s just wasting the company’s time.
Disney made sure that nobody cares about Star Wars anymore.
Supercool I love when you pulled that Dragonfly out of the carebox.
Why would you waste time even cleaning astudio series devastator? It probably looks better. It's like wiping off your trash can lid
Well that’s certainly an opinion
Does work the same as investing? Where you buy during the dip? Not saying it be as profitable but does the concept hold true? Buy low sell when and if it rises again?
It's called Disney deflation
went to TF last weekend. Asked about something I was looking for and Ryan found it in the back. Great guy. Awesome store!!
Because Star Wars as a franchise is destroyed thanks to Disney - has to rub off on the value of Star Wars toys.
Definitely for the new crap. They can't give away Rey Palpatineor Third Sister figures, but there will always be some demand for the pre-Disney merch.
No one wanted episode 1 merch for a long time. Now they do.Star Wars is forever.
Interesting seeing a deal for modern star wars, and not just the vintage figures. I like the aesthetic of vintage Star wars but don't really care to pay those high prices, and their weapons are almost always missing. Good to see Ryan excited over rare Joe blueprints.
Trend always seems to be people think something is worth more, you never see someone think it's worth less.
They think “What price would I pay for this” but that’s a collector’s view
Most of his star wars collection is either used or only a couple years old it's mostly based around the classic trilogy. If you really want a better price, you have to find more clone wars items. The prequel kids are grown up now and the demand for clone wars content is booming. Finding that stuff in the wild is starting to become harder and more valuable since the season 7 release.
toy collectors and sneaker heads have that same "dork trying to act cool" energy
says the guy watching "dorks" sell toys to other "dorks"...lol.
im guessing youre too broke to afford to collect anything besides the L's youre racking up.
@@30.06onaGrassyKnollit’s inherently dorky dude fun tho
Nah bro sneaker heads are lame and whack
@@30.06onaGrassyKnoll well, aren’t you just the most sensitive little button in the drawer!
Really took that comment personally, huh?
Jayson Tatum collects toys? Interesting!
jajaaa... I think the same.... ..
I am currently selling my movie item collection, shops usually sell with a 600% to 800% profit margin. Well that’s their asking price. That they give you 50% on the value is amazing
You absolutely can never sell or trade anything to these "professional" toy dealers. They are borderline criminals.
Video Suggestion: You guys should have a chyron introducing some of the employees--- or even a get to know you video of who's who, what their "expertise" is... (especially the new guys) A good way for us viewers to know who you guys all are!
Whompa whompa whompa!!!!
You guys can save some time on cleaning those figures with paint by getting an extra soft toothbrush and using the alcohol on it. Helps get in the crevices easier.
NEVER take your toys or comic books to a comic book or toy retailer for cost evaluation they are all thieves.
I had a farmboy Luke..... watching this makes me wonder what journey that action figure took after I gave it away.....to my little brother, I think.
Maybe it sits under glass with LEDs lighting it up 🙏
Probably ended up in the trash at some point.
Never sell to a comic shop or retro toy shop because they will rip you off every time.
This what happens when you let Kathleen Kennedy take over your franchise.
Was just watching old videos hoping a new one would drop and here it is thank you 👍
Every Saturday morning at 9
I have an unopened, well kept, mint condition Darth Vader toy that I've had for about 13 years. I looked it up the other day and it was worth exactly what I paid for it lol.
Great start to the work week with a Toy Federation video. I always enjoy watching. Thanks for sharing as always Toy Federation.
Our pleasure!
Fair price considering he is selling to a store, got to be a tough job sometimes, these things are always worth a bit more to us than what they actually are, fluctuating market and a lot of the OG Star Wars guys already own this stuff or have owned it, once the customer base gets to a certain age that premium price starts dropping off hard, 70s toys are worth half what they used to be
people are saying he got ripped off. i don't think so. the easiest thing he can do is go into a store and get money for it. the toughest thing he can do is to sell each thing individually to private buyers, one by one. he'd get more money that way, but it's much more effort, time, duration etc
its interesting, griff was spot on at 2k in value; naive to think hed get much more than half
I'm jealous, there are no stores like this in my area. It seems to be much more common in the midwest vs the west coast.
"with lasers..." That made me smile :)
Was that shrink wrap on the toys? I find unwrapping tight plastic risks breaking fragile parts . Anyone else?
My favorite ' toy commercial was either early transformers or the batman Kenner stuff. The old g i joe and spiral zone were good too 😂❤
Serious question but what does the chat think happened to all the mail order parts supply warehouses for mail in extra parts? Did it all end up in a dumpster after the toy series was done. Just think of the millions of dollars what it would be worth now sealed?
Wonder if you get a better deal selling the whole collection or one item at a time?
