15 minutes of brilliant TV. No notes, no cuts, no stumbles. Well filmed by a single camera walking backwards. Not many will notice this but it’s real quality broadcasting. You should be doing the Top Gear gig together.
100% this, was about to comment the exact same thing. The fact you guys did all this in a single take, with such knowledgeable information and delivered so professionally, such kudos
I brought the 2023 Outback XT Sport. Same engine as the WRX. With some tuning to the engine and modifications to the hood and bady. I think it would run and look bloody awesome.
Great to see so many past and present "Heroes" from the Subaru lineup. I did notice one Hero was missing, which has a unique shape & style to all other Subaru Impreza. The 2008 Impreza. The 2008/2009 Impreza even had a staring role in the Fast & Furious franchise (Fast 5) movie. Interesting to hear why its it did not make it into the collection?
The 22B is a classic, but Larry Chen just had an even rarer G8 on his channel - the S201 which only had 300 produced. Super cool version with "every parts from STi's catalogue" lol. The wing is insane, as is the body kit!
Just did a 3 week tour of Vietnam on motorbikes, saw two Subarus the whole trip. I’ve never felt safer on a bike. Outback owners are the ultimate mouth breathers.
MCM needs to import the American made Subaru Baja. It was a modern version of the Brumby. It didn't sell well though. A lot of people thought they were odd vehicles compared to what else was available. That's why they were disconnected . Seems like they would have been a lot more popular in Australia
As a single cab maybe, but not the wussy dual cab the Baja was. Look how well the Holden Crewman sold... Of course, then it would've been up against the local ute offerings available at the time.
yeah i totally forgot about those but its pretty much looks like an updated more mordern brumby, had em in Canada too...didnt make sense down here because everyone already drives big trucks down here lol smaller trucks are starting to come back though now i've noticed
Just picked up a JDM STI 2005 blobeye. Ive been waiting for this day since im 6. Now 25. Cant stop smiling even when im not driving it! Now just need to wait for the summer days for car meets and the donegal rally in ireland. Cant wait.
Great collection. From what I remember reading in all the magazines, it was the Hawkeye (06-07) that everyone claimed was the ultimate culmination of the STi. Still had all the rawness of the Blob/Peanut Eye, but the perfect gear ratio and transmission to utilize all the power. I had an 03 WRX, 04 STi and now have an 11 WRX - love me some Subies.
i think they hit a new level of their process. details details details. it ended up extremely nice, the color is incredibly classy, and the dark trim sets it off. more modern power and reliability but with the fun goofy character of the late 70s and 80s boxy cars. i agree it's one of the best they've done to date!
I’ve owned over a dozen 97-98 outback wagons. EJ25D and 4:11 5spd in a wagon was so fun. Some of them I lifted with spacers and big tyres. Some were ice racers, a couple were rally cars, one was an auto crosser. Most were around $500usd and lasted for years.
Owned and driven plenty of subies, a few wrxs including a 270awkw I currently own, some gt legacies and some non turbos. Being a suby man through and through ever since playing wrc on ps2 as a kid and falling in love, the thing i can say about all of them is they are simply fun. From the iconic rumble and cool noises, to the aggressive looks and cosmetic characteristics to the handling and raw driving experience they’re just so fun.
I bought my first Subaru, a 96 legacy outback a month or two ago. 132k miles. Engine out and head gaskets done. Beautiful car. Needs AWD service as it torque binds without the fwd fuse in, but works perfectly otherwise. Glad to be part of the family.
@@alistermccallum hahaha. It is an “issue” but truly, it is a great car. 100% rust free. Clutches going bad in the extension housing and a failed duty c solenoid aren’t a huge issue overall
Brilliant review even though you missed a few I am a big Impreza fan from the UK (71 years old) I had a Classic STI 2 door, a Bug Eye STI, a Blob Eye WRX and fitted an EJ207 engine and six speed (not DCD) gearbox matching rear diff drive shafts and brakes. I also reversed the inlet manifold fitted a hybrid turbo equal length hedders and custom exhaust, Bilstien suspension. It was my ultimate JDM car.
In 1984 I bought a new Brat GL 4WD. It was my daily driver for 8 years until I retired it from it's role as my nailer drive when I purchased my 1994 Subaru Legacy AWD Sedan . I still own the '84 Brat and take it to shows and Subaru events. Yes, I'm Subaru through and through...
You are so fortunate chaps, here in the UK, most of those scoobies would be piles of rust and dust with all the UK salty winter roads. My 19yo son has been in Oz for the last year - he's just bought a 2009 outback and he loves it. He's in Katoomba. I'm popping over to see him in January. Any recommendations an places to visit or eat round Sydney welcome! Keep it coming Marty and Moog, best thing for eye balls on the tintenet.
Subaru brumbys were awesome. Thank you guys so much for making a video with them. Always dreamed of seeing one in person. Sense child hood. Thank you. 😁 22B tops all Subaru’s. No competition 😁
Extremely impressive lineup. That took a lot of work. The Brat at the end there is gorgeous... I'd be afraid to breathe on it. So much high tech, so much effort, and still, the absence of MOON BUGGY is very conspicuous. Imagine if the Mighty twins activated a little road rat like that... They'd dominate any track... and it could easily be street legal. Awesome vid, as usual... this one especially.
I owned a 2004 WRX blob eye. Loved that car. Never had any issues with it. Was such a fun car to drive in the winter. I would always get excited whenever it snowed to go drive. 😆
I've owned 2 N/A first gen (SF) Foresters and one of my good mates sent me an ad for a Forester GT and I've been loving it ever since. The GTs are the first gen foresters but with an EJ205 (turbo). They're a ton of fun to restore with all the Subaru parts which are like lego and they're pretty fun to drive.
Missed a whole era!! My first car was a ‘74 DL1400 4sp… later upgraded engine and gearbox to 1600 5sp. There was a wagon with 4WD and my plan was to covert the sedan to 4WD. Classic Subaru as the floor pan of both cars was identical and although the sedan was FWD all the mounting points for the for 4WD were all there ready to go 🤓 … and no Vortex?
My first car was an L series sedan in the same colour green as that. Had a rare factory Sunroof and had it converted to 4wd. You'd be surprised how much stuff from the L series bolts into an MY/Brumby... The body is different, but the mechanicals are just a revision. Currently got a JDM import turbo Leone wagon in the backyard which I'm trying to fix up. Even in the 80s, JDM cars had so much more than what we got.
I would have loved to see a clean example of a B4 Twin turbo Liberty/ legacy. But none the less, following Marty's Subaru adventure got me into legacy's and I much prefer them from Impreza chassis in terms of a hidden quality to them.
I had a '94 SVX LSi, and I miss it SOOO MUCH... Full custom stainless mandrel-bent exhaust, WRX big brakes (with Tribeca/STI rotors), RX8 wheels, 4.44 MPT auto conversion (really wakes them up, but a 4.44 VTD auto conversion, or a 3.90 or 4.11 6-speed manual would be ideal). It was such a fantastic car, and I'd still have it if it wasn't for Canadian winters and salt. Do a build with one! Turbo! Put a ZF 8HP behind the EG33! I know you featured an SVX in MCM Mag back in the day!
Man, some real classics in there! Although I am still watching a black screen waiting for the the Liberty B4 and Forester GT review 😅 Probably not going to happen, but I would *love* to see a Emory Porsche 356 RSR style build of a Subaru 360 with all the touches... If you're looking for a new challenge, would be cool opportunity to see some 3D printed + carbon style bodywork on the channel 😉
The Brumby you guys built - trend setting! Not sure if you are across the SEMA trends for 2023, the graphics you guys used seem to be coming back in a huge fashion, eveerything had those stripes, in many different colours, but in similar proportions and dimensions.
No Vortex 😢 Don’t know if either of you guys are the least bit into them but I’d love to see you guys play with a Vortex and see what you can fit in one.
I remember the shape of Forester that you used for the Brumby rebuild were everywhere when I started my apprenticeship 10 years ago. I think I've only seen one recently at my current workshop
I second this so hard... Sleeved, turbo, Haltech, 6-speed DCCD, R200, coilovers, big brakes (WRX 4/2-pots are nearly direct bolt-on. Fronts bolt right up when using Tribeca rotors, rears only require a caliper bracket and the use of vented STI gravel rotors). The one thing that really needs to be solved for big power and sustained high RPM on the EG33 is the cooling system, specifically cavitation at the pump due to inlet restriction, and the undersized crossover pipe between the heads. Besides that, the engine is more than capable. Just look at what Andy Forrest has achieved (1200HP). Doooo itttttt!
My new VB WRX is arriving any day now. Would love to hear your thoughts, see some content etc in the future. They appear to have a heap of potential and have been over engineered.
I had a similar experience with an STi. I was racing one in my Skyline and winning quite convincingly until we got to a roundabout and I had to slow down. He went the wrong way at about 120 and chopper me hard!
Suprised the gc8 impreza rs is not here those are awesome. The 24 impreza rs is really fun, and i personally own one i havent driven it to hard yet but i am about to have my first service on it with it almost having 6000 miles and i might start driving it a little bit harder to see what it does. I still want to throw an exhaust on the 24 impreza rs to get a better note from the 2.5L boxer
i love my blog eye sti. first gen sti we got in the us. 2.5l here which gets a bad rep but the low end torque vs a 2l is a crazy difference. I just got a twin scroll v7 swapped bug eye and holy crap out of boost it falls on its face.
Yes! Finally peanut name comes back! lol. I remember here in Australia, especially rexnet days, we used to call them peanut when they came out, then Facebook Americanized them with the blob eye name lol.
For snyone curious, that 8:20 is a 'blobeye,' which is a facelifted 'bugeye,' before the second facelift 'hawkeye' lol all second gen WRXs. Which to me headlights arent eyes anyway so idfk
My first car was a L series 1.8 carby EA82 4wd with low range, was the best car! Ahahah next was a MY02 wrx "wagon" from memory the keypad "alarm" was from the GC8 WRX as they were the most stolen car in aust as they were quicker then a v8 commo/falcon

I have a forester exactly like that same colour trim ect and I love it. It’s punchy enough and fun but it is pretty bad on fuel and the clutch is ridiculously heavy
