    Try to put a few drops of mineral oil on those hinges, it might keep them from squeaking so much. Great build by the way.

    To separate the substrate from the drainage layer you can also use window screen. It is less noticeable. That is what I do in my vivariums. It works really well.

    Dude, your passion and creativity is contagious! I had never paid much to tarantulas being afraid of them but your education and presentation has me interested! Unfortunately it's convincing the family lol. They were against me owning snakes but once they were exposed they fell in love with them! I really really love unit enclosures designs and ideas and hope to use them in the future! Thank you!

    I could not watch this video and leave without leaving a tanned, thank you for the video. I've been following your channel for a few months now, I do not know how to speak English at all, but seeing your pets really tickles me, so even without understanding what you say in your videos, I watch them anyway.
    I used google translator to write this message, successes in this hobby

    Honestly I love your videos. Your tank builds give me inspiration and ideas of my own and your arachnid videos make me favor tarantulas more (I'm not a huge fan of these 8 legged critters). When I get more money, I'm planning on building tanks on my own since it's way cheaper and more fun. Your imagination is endless!

    Amazing. Your videos have inspired me to start keeping tarantulas. Unfortunately, I live in Maine, USA and we cannot keep them without obtaining both importation and possession permits so I have submitted my requests and now just have to wait to hear back from the state authorities. Keep up the great videos. I learn something every time.

    Awesome enclosure! I use a long reach lighter for shaping styrofoam details and it works really well. Also, if you're doing much foam cutting at all, look in to electric foam cutters that use heat to slice the foam. No more foam mess. They cut clean.

    Glass has minuscule pores in it's surface structure where plexiglass is smooth. Silicone needs a structure to hold on to. I have succesfully connected glass to plexiglass with silicone by sanding the plexi a bit to give it the structure it needs to hold.
    Very nice build

    • @RayRomz
      @RayRomz 7 років тому

      Sorry to bother you again but I couldn't stop thinking about your problem of bonding plexiglass to glass, at first I was thinking a solution might be permabond but you'd need to mess around with uv curing, it can be messy and costly so then it hit me what about sugru, it bonds incredibly well to both plexiglass and glass, it's strong and incredibly durable and it's also cheap, unfortunately it doesn't come in clear but white might look ok if you use a thin enough layer. Anyway hope this gives you some ideas even if you don't use it yourself it might help someone else in the comments section. :)

    • @TheDarkDen
      @TheDarkDen  7 років тому

      Need to see what that sugru is. But the best solution would be just to make the whole enclosure out of plexiglass and use special weld on glue for acrylic.

    • @RayRomz
      @RayRomz 7 років тому

      The Dark Den Yeah total plexiglass is the best solution but here's a link to the sugru site just in case anyone needs it, found the magnet kit quite useful for my own enclosures. sugru.com/home-diy

    If you want those hinges to squeak less try putting some graphite powder on them, I would recommend an oil, but oils can damage the plastic. Also if you want to smooth out silicon rubber with your finger try putting some spit on your finger before you do, it prevents the silicon from sticking to your finger and makes it really smooth, just be sure to use a lot of spit

    Superb stuff! Ok am next...getting the better camera this week so should be onto my next parts.....I should have one done if all goes according to plan. My glue is looking a funny colour which is a bit worrying but I will be glueing the holders for the lid first off so will know if it's working good before I glue the rest of the enclosure together. (watching this has given me the drive to get them done).
    Am happy that it all worked out so well! (yeah doors not fitting can be a pain..especially if you dont have a dremel). The foam and the substrate stuck on looks a lot better than the foam backrounds you can buy. Thats something I might look into to put into my 3 acrylic enclosures. Am wondering if a backround for a large terrestrial might look better than it being all open...
